Catch the Wind: Families can captain a radio-controlled boat, study the wind and mist through hands-on experiments, learn to identify birds by their flight patterns, and fly in an ornithopter - a one-of-a-kind flying machine modeled after insects and birds - during a visit to the Museum of Life and Science. Interactive Farmyard: Kids can see and interact with a variety of animals - including goats, sheep, rabbits, chickens, a pig, Jersey calf, and a ball-playing donkey named Lightnin' - at the museum's Farmyard exhibit. Daily at 4:30pm (except Thursdays) vistors can watch the keepers feed the animals and ask questions about their care. - Beck Tench

Two weekends ago, we took Sadie to the Museum of Life and Science, for, like, the 25th time. Thank goodness we're members! Each time is a different experience, though, because she grows increasingly engaged with her surroundings and has picked up new skills and interests. We have some cool films of some of the wildlife there that I will post later this week. - Beck Tench

A very photogenic Auntie Joanna went on a Veteran's Day trip with Savannah and Grandma to the Museum of Life and Science in Durham to see the animals. Savannah thought the animals were ok, but she really loved the old caboose (where we're sitting in this picture). We would say, "Savannah, wanna go see the lemurs?" And she'd say, "No! Boose! Boose!" - Beck Tench

Have you ever tried to catch drifting leaves on a windy day? Thrilling! The students made some great connections to the wind exhibit we visited at the Museum of Life and Science that explained how the shape of seed pods influences how well plants can reproduce. - Beck Tench

I can't remember what these monkeys are called - terrible for a science teacher, I know. But they were cute! This trip we mainly did the outdoor exhibits since the weather is getting colder. There were bears, wolves, monkeys (still can't remember their name) and some farm animals. We're looking forward to going back and seeing more! - Beck Tench

We went to the Museum of Life and Science, where Grandma and Grandpa got to see Livia play and climb a lot. Later that afternoon we went to Gymboree, where Livia displayed her playing and climbing skills once more. Grandma was so busy taking pictures that I didn't get any of my own. But Livia slept through the most exciting part of the day-- the election returns! - Beck Tench

On Friday we headed to the North Carolina Museum of Life and Science. It is more like a small zoo. Grace usually has dance on Fridays, but with 75 degree weather on November 7th we took advantage of our good fortune and spent the time outside. We met our good friends Stacey and Hampton at the Museum. It was their first visit so we showed them the ropes. Isaac and Hampton are in the same preschool class- but they are not dating. - Beck Tench
