I'll be watching. I have Leo on my tv but you know what's all weird abut this coverage? EVERYONE is excited about it! Even non-apple peeps. I think we're all hoping for something that will change our lives tangibly.

@LANjackal: The problem there is that that system backfires. I specifically do not buy media on the iTunes store because of the "must sync to the computer" problem. I don't connect my gear to my computer, ever. I haven't hooked my phone up since the first day I got the thing (and jailbroke it). I very likely never will hook it up again, because there's no point. Also, if they need verification, then a simple 2-key cryptographic system could be made to work easily enough.

AT&T suckage depends on where you are. Here in Memphis, for example. AT&T is quite good. I get ridiculous speeds off the 3G and never have a dropped call. When I travel to Atlanta, the experience there is quite different.

What does this do for the Kindle, Nook and all the other e-ink readers? I'd say they're in trouble. Except for reading a textbook, I think a device just 2x larger than the iTouch would be more convenient.

They've not updated the UK store yet with info about the ipad. A little let down about the lack of bluetooth connection to a dekstop/laptop mac for use as an input device. Also, not bothered about the 3G version as I'd rather buy a mifi and use that saving myself cash and letting more devices access the net on the go ;)
- alphaxion
It would be cool if I could get a mifi-type device with a $15/30 per month no-contract billing option. That would make all of these devices tempting.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
here in the UK 3 offer a mifi with a 1 month rolling contract, 5Gb per month limit with £40 up front for the mifi or a pay as you go mifi for £70 up front
- alphaxion
That sounds sweet alpha, I think here it's like $60/mo. with a long-term contract. Let me double-check that. Edit: Looks like the minimum mifi contract is $40/mo. for 250MB and it doesn't say how long the contract lasts. http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c...

is there no way of buying the low end model and adding in an sdxc card to bump it up to 64GB? Having no camera is ridiculous and as usual you are locked into the apple ecosystem. Orange. The tablet still doesn't work well as the video livestream interface between my DVCam and whatever RMTP server I need to transmit to. Seriously whatever, as far as I'm concerned.
- Rich Reader
Big question now -- pricing. We now know there are multiple models from 16GB - 64GB. Probably at least 3 models. Will they be subsidized by cell phone carriers - I do not see a cell carrier logo at the top of the screen in the screen shots.
Need for Speed Shift, BTW. Looks very good. Question is, what will the controls be like. Will they be touch or tilt? The iPad has accelerometer built in.

Now showing MLB for the iPad -- looks like a killer app for the baseball fan. Stats and live video. Box score, etc. A good use for the extra screen space.
I guess... but there are already a lot out there... and in the design industry many use flash. I know ... I create them!!
- TouchGen
I'm a designer and I hate flash with a passion that burns. The faster it's put out to pasture, the better I'll like it.

We won't see flash on this or the iPhone. With HTML5 it's not needed. Not to mention it's insecure and horribly maintained by Adobe. (Macromedia was better)

Question: How will Apple convince people to adopt the 4th screen (TV, computer, cell phone, and tablet)? When Apple came out with the iPhone they were replacing a current necessary device, the phone. The tablet is a 4th screen, how do they convince people that they need it?
I think Gruber is right, and they'll position it as a laptop - when you want a new MacBook, you'll go iPadd
- Rob LeFebvre
At least partly by what content types are best consumed on it? Newspapers / magazines / text books are all not so great on iPhone size screen, and laptops are also too big, unwieldly for those. This sits nicely in the middle.
- Patrick Jordan
I agree with gruber too. people need a simpler device than notebooks. The Macbook will fade away and will remain the Macbook Pro for power users
- Diego Petrucci
Patrick -- I can't see people going for a $800 - $1000 device for magazines/comics/textbooks, to be honest. It's gonna have to do more.
- Rob LeFebvre
Honestly, my laptop gets used in the couch in front of the TV most of the time, so I'm ready to move to the Tablet. And if it gets rid of all my paper magazines and gets me cheaper online versions with a touch of Minority Report, as well some other nice functionalities, I'm a day one'er.
- Sven Van de Perre
@ThePortableGamer - I agree, it has to / will do lots more.
- Patrick Jordan
One big issue -- the tablet is not a laptop replacement. It runs the iPhone OS, not Mac OSX (or so we are to believe). Not a full laptop replacement -- more like a large format iPhone.
- 148Apps
What I'm expecting today -- Content is king. iWork '10 and/or iLife '10. Aperture update. iPhone OS 4.0. Oh yeah, and some tablet thingy (available in March).
March makes sense, since that was the iPhone timeline. Would LOVE to see it happen sooner, but no worries. Content IS king - but the internet already exists. How do we get our content from free to paid? That's a challenge.
- Rob LeFebvre
"Although most of the speculation has centered on a tablet device that will likely be announced at the event, Apple CEO Steve Jobs probably has bigger plans in mind. (Click for live coverage of the Apple event, which starts 10 a.m. Pacific time on Jan. 27.) Apple’s goal is to offer a new platform for content creators to reinvent books, magazines and online content — in addition to offering a new avenue for content producers to make money. That platform will likely be far broader than just a tablet device, and will extend to every device or computer that iTunes touches."

- Patrick Jordan
It will give them an opportunity. But, honestly, they may not be smart enough to take it. Look how long it took most newspapers and magazines to get online. Many still haven't really committed. Those that have, don't really have a clue.
- 148Apps

Just noticed -- does look like there's a front-facing camera in the one picture. Look opposite of the home button. Also, resolution calculated to be 1024x768 by some smart folks on the Macrumors.com forum.
- 148Apps
The lack of front facing camera isn't entirely surprising. Remember back before the iPhone release, when R+D teams at Apple said they only had access to the components necessary to testing whatever they were working on so they wouldn't know the final look of the device?

TAB report a today launch of SD for $5.99 using in app payments, hence 3.0 must be coming out today to support these features, unless they're planning to push in app out as a separate update.
To be honest, not particularly impressed by these tactics from Apple. Feel's like they're stooping to Microsoft's level, and they really don't need to - can anyone say 'Laptop Hunters'. On the other hand, with the new pricing 'Laptop Hunters' is officially dead in the water.
