- ovigia
- Marcos Marado from Android
- Miguel Caetano

#Books: The Book of Audacity: Record, Edit, Mix, and Master with the Free Audio Editor - Carla Schroder (No Starch Press)
"San Francisco, CA, March 2, 2011—The numbers speak for themselves: with more than 75 million downloads and counting, Audacity is the world's most popular digital audio editor. But while users can easily learn the basics in just a few minutes, there's more to Audacity than meets the eye. In The Book of Audacity (No Starch Press, March 2011, 384 pp., $34.95, ISBN 9781593272708), digital audio maven Carla Schroder shows readers how to unlock the power of Audacity to transform their personal computers into full-fledged recording studios. Each chapter covers a different project, so readers can jump directly to recording live performances, preserving legacy media such as old vinyl LPs and 78s, and much more. "The digital revolution is wonderful because it's made it possible to create high-fidelity audio recordings without a lot of expensive equipment," Schroder says. "It's faster and more portable, and a lot easier to do all kinds of processing and customizations of your audio files... more... - Miguel Caetano from Bookmarklet

"Use OpenSource tools, such as Secure Shell (SSH), PuTTY, and Cygwin, to create secure connections to almost any resource you need to access. Current information on SSH tunneling and setup is fragmented and limited to specific applications, or it is written at a system administrator's level. With increasing security needs, the addition of boundary firewalls, and tightening of the number of allowed network ports, users need a method that is simple to configure, easy to operate and, above all, secure to accomplish day-to-day tasks and access the services that they have become accustomed to." - ovigia from Bookmarklet

- Miguel Caetano from Bookmarklet

If this is unsuccessful, he will be extradited to Sweden in 10 days. Facebook Privacy: 10 Settings Every User Needs to Know - Stan Schroeder (Mashable)
"Facebook’s privacy settings are extremely detailed, giving you the ability to fine-tune the privacy aspects of almost every little part of your Facebook account. Unfortunately, for most users, this level of micromanagement makes Facebook’s privacy settings a convoluted mess. Even worse, these settings change often; you may think you know everything there is about them, only to be greeted with a completely different layout and a bunch of new options the next time you visit the dreaded Facebook Privacy Settings page. So, what do you do when you’ve got over 170 options to choose from? You focus on the most important ones. We’ve entered Facebook’s maze of privacy options and came out on the other side bruised, battered, but with 10 essential settings in our hands. #Debian 6.0 AKA #Squeeze: nada mau, nada mau...
- Miguel Caetano

Expressei-me mal. - Miguel Caetano

Building a Linux IPv6 DNS Server - David Gordon & Ibrahim Haddad (Linux Journal) [October 2003] #ipv6 #ipv4
"IPv6 is the next-generation protocol designed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) to replace IPv4, the current version of the Internet Protocol. IPv4 has been remarkably resilient. However, its initial design did not take into consideration several issues of importance today, such as a large address space, mobility, security, autoconfiguration and quality of service. To address these concerns, IETF has developed a suite of protocols and standards known as IPv6, which incorporates many of the concepts and proposed methods for updating IPv4. As a result, IPv6 fixes a number of problems in IPv4 and adds many improvements and features that cater to the future mobile Internet. IPv6 is expected to replace IPv4 gradually, with the two coexisting for a number of years in a transition period. Servers will be dual stack, supporting both IPv4 and IPv6. In this article, we look closely at IPv6 name resolution and provide a technical tutorial to help readers set up their own IPv6 Linux DNS servers to allow IPv6 name resolution using the latest version of BIND 9.x." - Miguel Caetano from Bookmarklet

Enter your information and submit your anonymous tip. Each drop-box consists of a secure web connection and a form that encrypts both files and the text submitted (then destroys the originals) as well as removes identifying metadata from documents. The system also makes every effort to leave no traceable remnants from the transaction, such as identifiable session cookies on the client side or logging of any IP addresses on the server side." - Miguel Caetano from Bookmarklet

#Tunisia's President Flees After Riots Fanned by WikiLeaks - Theunis Bates (AOL News)
"Tunisia's president has stepped down, fleeing the country he ruled for 23 years after a citizens' revolt fanned by WikiLeaks disclosures about his regime's corruption and economic mismanagement. Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi appeared on state-run television this evening and announced he was assuming presidential powers, Bloomberg reported. Citing Al-Arabiya, Bloomberg reported that President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali had fled the country for Malta. The surprise announcement came after thousands of protesters swarmed the streets of the capital Tunis and called on Ben Ali to quit. Riot police reportedly fired tear gas and live rounds at the rally as it approached the Interior Ministry headquarters, a symbol of his repressive regime, according to the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper." - Miguel Caetano from Bookmarklet

Interviewing Glyn Moody: why we should worry about our own digital Freedom. - SImone Cicero (Meedabyte) /via @Asher_Wolf
"I think there are two major classes of threat to freedom: one that has been present for many years now, and the other that is relatively new. The first is from intellectual monopolies – copyright and patents – or rather, attempts to preserve their power in a world of digital abundance. That’s not possible, of course, which is why we have Draconian legislation like the DMCA, and the increasingly-insane fines awarded against people for sharing copyright material online." - Miguel Caetano from Bookmarklet
"As you know, RMS has no problems with companies making money (including from free software), but I do think there is a fundamental dissonance between freedom and those “huge profits”. When markets are working well, there are no huge profits because rivals can force down prices and help consumers obtain better deals. When a company is making huge profits it’s usual because it has some kind monopoly that allows it to charge prices way above what a competitive market would support." - Miguel Caetano
