Image Editing lesson 2 : The Clone Tool /DARnet Andy Roberts/ - The second video tutorial in this series ... http://distributedresearch.net/blog... Putting the second video out as a blog post now.
Consumers are slowly learning how to cope | Trends | Marketing Week As attitudes to the recession shift from fear to acceptance, marketers would be wise to follow the spending patterns set by consumers as they establish coping strategies. - http://www.marketingweek.co.uk/consume...
Anyone managed to set the new rank tracker module of Market Sam to fetch UK results yet? My project is UK based in MS but the ranking info fetched is google.com, so not much use. Is there a way to adjust it?
Well, I been thinking about it at the back of my head today, & a couple of things: 1. find some decent keywords, put up a blog, & either sell them on the back of a free teaser or they (or 1 or 2 of them) could be the free teaser to get them into your blog. Depends how valuable you think they are: you could give away one or 2 & charge for the others (I've been making notes on one of Eben Pagan's homestudy seminars today http://tinyurl.com/qk4nfx
- Isha (Marysia)
Pagan's video is v good by the way, & if you've not seen it could give you some ideas that would answer your question. 2. Find someone whose blog/site gets good visitor numbers in a related (but not competing) area & ask to do a post or an offer on their blog, & you'd tell the readers that they can get the tutorials on your blog.
- Isha (Marysia)
What we don't know is how long they are, what you think they're worth, what your intention was behind making them etc. So not sure if either of those suggestions actually fit your reality?
- Isha (Marysia)
3. Hunt around the internet finding out who & where are crying out for just that sort of tutorial. I'm reminded of the mantra of the 30dc, something about not having the product before doing the market research. 4. If you think they're good (you might like to verify that by getting someone to go through them) then perhaps Clickbank?
- Isha (Marysia)
Some good suggestions there, along the lines of what I'm grasping towards. I'm not sure what these kind of tutorials might be worth so I'm going to have to test it somehow. Keyword research has been underway but the specific niche is untested. I think I need to write a step by step plan now. Meanwhile, thanks for the ideas and I'll send you the plan and videos if you like.

Yes, this is going about it backwards but there was a reason - I was stuck offline so it was the best I could do with my time. At the worst, I have content for five blog posts but feel I should be able to make more of it.
- Andy Roberts
I don't have Mac but thanks for the offer. Agree, you could make more of it.
- Isha (Marysia)
I've posted the first video on my blog to see what happens, there's also a list of what's covered in the remaining 4 vidoes - Number 1 is not the best one http://distributedresearch.net/blog...

You may have had emails in the last 2/3 months from Commission Junction UK &/or from Affiliate Window, telling you that amongst other things their new guidelines include: "Affiliates must not use a mechanism whereby users are encouraged to click to interact with content where it is unclear or confusing what the outcome will be: For example: [...]...
or confusing what the outcome will be: For example: [...] Opening the merchant's site without making it clear that this will occur". Affiliates contravening the code will be flung out. I quickly went through my posts unlinking all the keyword-to-affiliate-merchant links. How can we get around this? Are our 30dc sites now defunct?

Reminder: the UK's Inland Revenue deadline for filing tax returns is January 31. The postal deadline has long gone and any tax returns not yet filed must be filed online by Jan 31.
Yes - system changed in 2008. Ouch indeed. But at least it puts an end to the IR pretending they've not received posted returns for those of us who leave things till the last minute :)

New stuff re London meetup. If you might want to go please will you look at my latest addition to this thread and give your feedback. Thanks - http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/forums...
Tim Brennan has started a collaborative Google Maps where anyone in the 30dc can add their location. We've put in our own locations (just 1 mile apart in East London LOL), so please add your own. For instructions see Tim's comments here. - http://friendfeed.com/e...
UK based 30dc blogs might well come across the UK-based Affiliate Window, the affiliate program for over 700 companies. I'd be grateful if you'd look at my forum post about AW. Thanks. - http://www.thirtydaychallenge.com/forums...
Hi Marysia, I've used afwin since March this year and regard them as one of the main UK affilliate networks. As long as you are serious about making sales for using some of their merchants you'll have nothing to worry about. If you just want to try out an untested phrase, then I suppose the £5 upfront fee is there to see if you can be easily put off. If you earn less than £25 in a...

Thanks, Andy, for your really helpful reply! I'll go ahead with them then. I don't have any probs buying things online using Paypal. I like the security of it. However, all UK sites recognise my debit card, which is a Maestro card, and lots of non-UK sites do too. The only time I was unable to buy something it was an IM site - which I thought hilarious! :D

What about the clause: "7.3 DWL reserves the right to charge a monthly administrative fee if in any six month period, the Affiliate does not earn a CPA or CPC and the Affiliate does not log into or access its section on the Service Website" - do you know how much the monthly fee is? I'm a bit concerned because I still feel new to all this and am only able to work at it a few hours a week while I find my profitable niche(s).
- Isha (Marysia)
It's ok - I found what I needed (in fact that admin fee is irrelevant). I got it via a really useful forum: affiliates4u.com/forums/affiliate-window
- Isha (Marysia)
Gosh Andy - I've just found out that you could have earned a referral fee if we'd taken the route of your referring me to AW. If I find peeps who are interested in signing up with AW I'll send the first one to you. So 30dc peeps: anyone want to sign up to Affiliate Window? See Andy's first comment on this thread. AW's url: http://www.affiliatewindow.com/
- Isha (Marysia)
Already a member, but I recommend them.

Anyone know the sorts of reasons transactions are called "pending" in Affiliate Window? Here are my first earnings with them - looks like 1 person bought a lot of stuff via my link in December, & I dunno if I can trust the stats since they're "Pending". I forgot to set my 30dc tracker for the link. - http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3128...
I've now found this in their knowledge-base: "Why aren’t my pending sales being approved?" Answer: "It is up to a merchant to decide if a commission is approved or declined to an affiliate. We do ask merchants to validate as regularly as possible to ensure affiliates get the commission as quick as possible. Some merchants approve on a daily basis and some monthly. Please allow until then end of the month before contacting a merchant for a reason why commissions are not being validated." So I've got to wait to find out if I've won the zillion day challenge. That sucks.
- Isha (Marysia)
Looks like I remembered to set my 30dc tracker for the link on 18th December - but there have been v few click-throughs - the 19th Dec click *is* in there though.
- Isha (Marysia)
Well it sounds daft but the most common search is for an actual domain name, not a ‘thing’ or ’service’ or phrase!!! For example people type in “www.domainname.com” into the Google search box instead of using the browser address bar. - http://www.microedge.co.uk/website...
If you missed the 30dc plus sign-up tv show at 5.30pm EST Wed 10th December, you can sign up to 30dc plus here only til 5.30pm EST (11.30pm GMT) on Thurs 11th December '08. $19.97/month = £13.80 at today's exchange rate. - http://www.thirtydaychallengeplus.com/
Can someone please tell me the url for the Affiliate Window FAQ pages. I've signed up with them and been accepted with a particular merchant and they've emailed me telling me to look at the FAQ pages but I'm blowed if I can find them. My account pages at AW's site are enough to freak anyone out
I've found the answer to this by posting questions in the AW forum, which is excellent. You can get to the faqs by clicking on "Contact" at the top right of each AW page. Now how clever is that - not? The faq are here: http://www.affiliatewindow.com/affilia...
- Isha (Marysia)
I don't know why, but all of the affiliate networks seems to be as bad as each other with respect to ease of use and sensible navigation. I slightly prefer OMG and AW but they're all bad.
- Andy Roberts
OMG = Oh My Gosh!?! Thanks for the warning Andy. I find it quite bizarre when affiliate networks want us to use them but don't tell us how to. The first company I affiliated with have their own scheme and they've made it really easy. The only problem with them is that they only have one or 2 in stock of each item, and since it's the clothing industry, the likelihood that the item will be the colour and size that the potential purchaser wants is going to be remote. Thus my wanting to replace them.
- Isha (Marysia)
I nearly fainted dead away when I saw my account pages at AW. Table upon table of gobbledegook. The only reasons I've decided to stick with it is that they are looking after £5 of my dosh which they've recredited to my account, and also their T&C permit them to charge a monthly fee if I don't go ahead and use them (they won't even reveal how much that is). Hey-ho!
