OMG I am so stoked I have just managed to get MS working with Linpus, that was a nightmare and a half, installed firefox 3 (thanks to www.macles.blogspot.com), then installed flash 10, then installed rpm-build, the air and finally market samurai. Well worth the effort!
I'm a fan of Linux, but this is not nice: "Some members of the Linux community relentlessly flamed a woman who dropped out of college after finding her laptop -- which was running Ubuntu -- didn't work as expected. Others came to her defense, but not before she was dismissed as "stupid" and "ignorant."" The stories of this have received at least 4600 diggs and 1800 comments so far.

Nothing like a Windows-Linux fight. :-) I won't flame her. I'm just thinking what this type of situation tells about how people face life challenges. If we where to stop at the first obstacle men would have not walked on the moon. It took me 10 year to finish university. Was it easy, definitively not. But I learn that "perseverance" is the key to success.

I should've mentioned earlier that the woman's story has been misrepresented. The reason she didn't attend her college sessions was because the students get their notifications by computer, and she never received the notifications to attend the correct sessions because Dell sold her an ubuntu distro laptop and talked her out of exchanging it because they said that ubuntu was wonderful. But the college requires them to use Word and a particular internet connection CD that won't load on the laptop.
- Isha (Marysia)
So she never even knew about the sessions that she didn't turn up for - she didn't voluntarily drop out at all. I don't see why she should have to learn how to use linux at the same time as starting a new college course. She paid >$1k for the laptop. We can blame Dell, but I'm not proud of being part of the Linux-using community when people act like this.

Market Samurai really does work better with other distros than Ubuntu. See @webmojo's last entry on this thread - he's now using Fedora. - http://www.noblesamurai.com/forum...
The UK's "Ministry of Defence confirmed today that it has suffered virus infections which have shut down 'a small number' of MoD systems, most notably including admin networks aboard Royal Navy warships." Hm. Defending the country with Windows... - http://tech.slashdot.org/article...
That's including Warships. One (tongue-in-cheek) poster writes: "I'm shocked to find that Windows based computers are subject to virus infections! SHOCKED!" :D

Been trying Songbird lately. Great app. Love the mozilla integration. One question though, I've been trying to get IMTW podcast on it and it just won't happen. Anybody has any ideas on how to do this? I've been trying the "new subscription" option with just about any link to the podcast and no luck so far.
I just installed Songbird this morning, but haven't had time to test (play) with it yet ... I suspect I'll finally get to it tonight. IMTW is in my list of 'casts, I'll let you know if/how I get it subscribed.

Can anyone help with this one? Anyone on Ubuntu got the paid for version of market samurai working properly, and if so how? Look at the last post here - http://www.noblesamurai.com/forum...
I use windows emulation with virtualbox. It is a tad slower, but the air plataform for windows works way better. I believe the linux port of AIR does not make justice for the Market Samurai
- Jorge Blanco
Thanks Jorge - I've posted your reply (attributed) in the Market Samurai forum where the question was asked - hope that's ok. Any other replies are most welcome - either here or in the Market Samurai forum http://www.noblesamurai.com/forum... or both.

I used PlayOnLinux to install iTunes 7.7.1.11 on Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. The reason I did this was to get the bonus that Ed Dale is saying comes with the iTunes feed of the Internet Marketing This Week podcast at http://www.internetmarketingthisweek.com . I just ignored the error about CD/DVD burning drivers missing, and made sure to install Wine Gecko. Then within iTunes I went to the iTunes store and browsed to the IMTW podcast to subscribe to it. I'm sure this isn't the only way to accomplish this, but it was fairly easy and works to solve the problem.
- ThisGuyDoug
Anyone know what the bonus is? I tend to zone out (or fall asleep) when I'm trying to listen to this sort of thing (I'd rather read them or watch a great presentation) so don't want to go to all the trouble of doing this if the bonus is something Mac connected or anything else not directly connected to the 30dc.
- Isha (Marysia)
The bonus is not out yet (I think). iTunes through Wine is not so smooth, but it gets the job done.

Ubuntu & Market Samurai knowledgebase article:
I've just seen this new article on the Market Samurai's team knowledge-base:
Looks useful! - http://short.to/8dh
Get it here: http://labs.adobe.com/downloa... Remove the Alpha first or it will throw up an error. You'll have to do it through the package manager, or at least I did.

I'm going to give Twidge a try. Suppose to work from command line. Anybody have any experience with it? Does anybody still live here on the command line..? - http://software.complete.org/softwar...
Anyone having difficulties with the media downloads in this challenge? I've had two or three videos plus the podcast cut short no matter how many times I've downloaded them.
I have only had a problem a few times, mostly due to network timeouts dealing with Amazon's S3 and my networks. I did use wget in a console, or terminal window. Just copy the link from the web page for the SD or HD version and then in a terminal window type "wget http://link.to/file" and you should be fine. Wget manages longer stalls better than a browser will. You could even try "wget --tries=0 --continue http://link.to/file" to make sure it keeps trying and always continues from where it dropped off...

If you've 2 computers, eg laptop & pc, a cool way to copy & paste between them, or send notes between them, is to open a 2nd skype account with a fake name. Then you can click on the fake person in your skype window to send a chat to yr other computer. Esp handy if you run 2 different op systems
Click yes to the upgrade. On mine, the app closes and never comes back. Search for MarketSamurai.air and open that with adobe air. I use Ubuntu so I just do sudo updatedb and then locate MarketSamurai. Good Luck
- James Norwag
I'm using Ubuntu as well, and all I've been doing is clicking on the latest .air file downloaded to my desktop. The Adobe Air installer takes over from there. I do get asked for the password(sudo) in a dialog box when needed.

looks like I should have installed Ubuntu instead of the latest Suse...
- Isha (Marysia)
I'm trying to install the latest version of Market Samurai after having uninstalled it. Is anybody else having the same porblem with v0.60? - http://www.flickr.com/photos...
I finally figured out the problem... When uninstalling the air apps, you need to do it through Synaptic, or on the command line with apt. Otherwise the new package can't register itself. Once I I did that the problem went away...

I re-installed mSamurai on the XP VM and, although it appears to be just a tad slow, it seems to work just fine. - http://eyemarketing.azsync.net/2008...
May I ask what you are using for a VM, what distro is your host, Ubuntu maybe..?
- John Serra
I'm using Ubuntu 8.04 with the free xVM VirtualBox form Sun. You can probably use the VirtualBox found in Applications Add/Remove for this, I only use the Sun version because it gives me access to the USB ports for iTunes. Unfortunately, you also need a valid copy of Windows to install in the VM.
- Eric Fox
I'm so glad you created this room. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 64 and having isues trying to install market samuri and twitter for the 64 bit OS. linux air will not even install on it
I believe you need to install the 32 bit libraries for that to work.
- John Serra
Several other 30dc people are using ubuntu. If you go to 30dc forums there's a pull-down menu "Search" near the top. Search for "ubuntu" & you'll see who else is using ubuntu. I'm having no problems with Mandrake (except piclens) but Suse isn't going so well (laptop)
