I created this room for all those of us who are both new to 30dc this year and still at days 2 to 4 because we haven't yet found a good keyword. No 30dc forum rules here - if you want to gripe, moan or scream, that's fine, but no flaming, no spamming, no libel, and try to keep any swearing to the more acceptable terms lol. But even better, let's give each other plenty of support and encouragement. I reserve the right to change these rules. Marysia "Isha" Kurowski
I'm stuck for a niche. I tried global warming and decided this wasn't something I could write articles about... Now looking for something I know about so I can write the articles....
Hello fellow strugglers, I'm also trying to work out a niche. I have two ideas - photography and business/life coaching. Are these too broad for this exercise?
- Anfernee C
Anfernee, I looked at the coaching niche early on, weren't enough searches to make it worth it. But you might find different...
- Isha (Marysia)
Thanks Marysia. Yes, I'm looking at other niches now.

We are a team of 3 online marketers who completed 30DC and we are working on a website for international copy writers. If you're interested please contact me via contact form on the bottom of the site http://www.copywriterinternational.com

Ruth, I agree. This room provided an outlet for members during August, when those of us who'd started on 1st August & had fallen behind were feeling like "strugglers" compared with many of the posters on the 30dc forums. Many of us set August aside for working on the challenge. Now that August is over the pressure is off and the 30dc has become a year-round challenge. Perhaps many...

Hmm maybe I should be looking at the forums more than!
- Anfernee C
I'm still here. Up to day 9. I'm waiting for the indexing!! Could you clarify what you mean by "coming up short"? How are you searching for keywords?
- Anfernee C
Ill check competition on Market Samurai tho!
- Ruth Howard
Market Samurai keeps giving me error messages when it tries to fetch SEO competition data... "It looks like you've received a temporary "time-out" from Google. There's no need to panic - this is quite common and will usually occur if too many queries are run too close together, and the "time-out" will usually be lifted within a few hours." Any suggestions/alternate approaches or tools?
- Anfernee C
Anfernee, you can read about it in the NobleSamurai forum. NobleSamurai are team behind Market Samurai. Many of us are experiencing that little bug, and we just ignore the message if Market Samurai is still getting us the data. The noblesamurai forum is at http://www.noblesamurai.com/forum...

I mean in Market Samurai SEO competition. How to know if I can get through there if some areas are pink and some yellow/green for same site? How do I know if I can compete????I understand how to discern the data categories but not how to interpret the data for usefulness to my keyword selection when plenty pink but a couple gaps? Like what if domain backlinks are pink but other data green. Is there any point competing? What about other way round yellow /green backlinks but pink Alexa and domain age?
- Ruth Howard
I just reviewed the video & pdf. Try to find as much green as you can. You won't find the "perfect site." I turn off some of the fields just so I can be less confused.

I am trying to distill out the essential things to look for and build a "cheat sheet" I can use to speed up my analysis. I current have a three page task list for setup and then daily or regular activites. Still very raw, but it is getting better each iteration.

I learn a lot by trawling the 30dc forum for analyses of SEOC matrices from moderators & senior members, and I try to analyse the matrices myself before reading other people's analysis - that way I learn. For example, I read a post by Caro where she encourages someone to "go for it" with a challenging SEOC matrix with SEOT >3k, whereas if the traffic is around 100 then I think she'd have a different take on it: because you don't have to be so high up the google ranks to earn money when SEOT is that big lol

Ive downloaded some addons today and my friendfeed went haywire I got mybloglog logo and couldnt access rooms all day! How are people going with keyword/seo stuff?
Hi. I'm happy there is an outlet here for strugglers. The 30DC forum seems to have a lot of successful gurus and i get depressed just reading the posts. I am not that much behind but am ready to give up. I chose 2 keywords in a specific niche and did everything i was supposed to do. NO LUCK.
Hi. Don't give up. Might re-look at your key word. It took me a while, persistence will help you, keep on going. Did you read the Niche Marketing Black Book from Noble Samurai, the one behind Market Samurai, it helped me with my search.

I feel your pain.I have watched each of the major videos to keep pounding it into my head. I learned long ago that there is a reason patience is a virtue. It is so hard to learn and practice consistently. Don't quit - just go back and review as you need to. The goal is to learn not to arrive. Arrival will happen in time.
- Richard Schnur
Thank you guys for your advice. No, i didn't read the black book from Samurai, where do i find it?
- judy
Seomoz.org has a page here that show popular searches for a particular day.
- Ruth Howard
The info at that link does suggest that some of most popular searches on any one day are fleeting moments (Olympics) and the large social-networking sites (Facebook, MySpace). I've no idea what "source" means... The list for 28 Aug is: 1. source 2. Kim Kardashian 3. 2008 Olympics 4. Facebook 5. Giant Squid 6. ipod 7. MySpace 8. Kara Dioguardi 9. John Edwards 10. Mia Hamm

I suspect that SEO Digger might be the missing piece to Market Samurai in order to locate the longtails....essential to us as newbies...who it looks like are mucking around with semi popular search terms that we dont have the clout for gotto go under these...Maybe I dont use Market Samurai properly of course!

Hi Ruth, I am pretty new to all this. I was trying to find a way to contact you to say I loved the Byron Katie quote that you have on the 30dc forum. I came across her thru a friend in Netherlands (I am in Melbourne, Australia). BTW... up to day 7!
Of course the Latest Searches Leading to this Doc info are individualised (Oz sp) long tails but they point to micro categories Im thinking...Im still playing with this to come up with the go for it micros...am I making sense here?
- Ruth Howard
oops! The other things that Ive been understanding are that I can think about my blog as a placve that people really wish to come back to. Really useful content passionate/obsessive bloggers are very niche about their niche! And if I was doing a seasonal niche then my aims are different
For example in a seasonal niche (google trends) you dont necessarily wish traffic to return. Its not so sticky it may be sales page. Myself Ive understood that id love a longer term business model and that its about providing a service that sustains others as they sustain you. I love the long slow build up of knowledge and networks around blogging online. As much as I love the immediacy of contacts and info/multimedia exchange!

What I have gleaned so far with keyword stuff is its useful if you have a service to perhaps hone in on people looking specifically maybe using "widget services'' as search term. Otherwise a buyers keyword like a serial number model number a brand name. A buying term if its product that you sell.A very long tail just about to purchase already done the research type keyword. However if you give peiople the research terms thats good too if can deliver the info of course that helps in decisions. Many people purely use net to research then buy offline. So thinking then in terms of what types of products can be shipped downloaded etc.

I am also a bit stuck. I thought about green/ethical investments so on a similar track to Yvonne. I even have a domain name for this. I also have a "Stop Excessive Sweating" (sorry, gross i know) blog. After that I'm not sure. Any suggestions on how i can adapt either of these?
