The Apple Room: Amani posted a message
“I am going to post my question here and on the apple.com forums. Let's see who responds quickest and most accurate. Why would my MacBook Pro just shut off all the time with an hour left on the battery? I don't get it.”

its faulty - WIN! - Zee from WeDoCreative
how old is the battery? I've had similar issues with 2+ Year Old batteries - Sean Reiser
I have had mine since April of 2007. Found a thread on apple.com with numerous people having this issue. Oh no ... http://discussions.apple.com/t... - Amani
Space-time distortion. Happens all the time. - Denton Gentry
It could be the battery is overheating, thus triggering some kind of panic shutdown. I've had this happen to me with two batteries (and I'm not entirely sure what the actual reason is). Apple replaced both batteries for free. - Carlos Granier-Phelps
You could have a damaged cell. Mine started doing it after 300+ recharge cycles although it was with about 20 minutes to go. - Timothy Griffin
@Timothy... that makes a lot more sense. Thanks. - Carlos Granier-Phelps
Carlos: no worries. Apple wouldn't replace my battery as they said I'd had over two years worth of use in 14 months -- wasn't too worried, though, as I had abused my poor MacBook and it stood up to it magnificently. - Timothy Griffin
@Timothy... I'm on my fourth battery already (in 2 yrs). But Apple has always replaced them for free (I do have Apple Care, though). - Carlos Granier-Phelps
Carlos: That was my problem, i.e. no AppleCare! It's only my second battery, though, and I am swapping for a new MacBook Pro in a few weeks and this time I got AppleCare. - Timothy Griffin
I believe I am on 375 cycles (what does that really mean?) so I need to call AppleCare. I don't think I have apple care, but I am not sure. - Amani
Amani: "A charge cycle means using all of the battery’s power, but that doesn’t necessarily mean a single charge. For instance, you could use your notebook for an hour or more one day, using half its power, and then recharge it fully. If you did the same thing the next day, it would count as one charge cycle, not two, so you may take several days to complete a cycle." - Timothy Griffin
@ Timothy - Thanks for the explanation. It seems like more and more people are having this issue. - Amani
No worries. - Timothy Griffin
Mine started doing that as well, seems to happen when I have a run on plugging it in and unplugging it often. It's in the apple hospital at the moment, let's hope it gets sorted. - Stuart Forsyth
Had a similar problem, I had a bad harddrive, get it checked out before a crash - Bryan Thatcher via twhirl
Apple tested my battery, cells poked so they gave me a new one. Was doing the same thing - from 30% power to off in less than a second :) - Stuart Forsyth via twhirl

Katie: my favorite restaurant, Tres Amigos, is on Kelley. - Robert Scoble
Yes yes...good stuff! We walk there when I visit! - Katie
I used to live right by Tres Amigos. Loved that place. Who needed to cook? - todd
Exactly. I think we eat there at least twice when I visit and I visit once a year at least. And we spend at least every morning at the Coffee Company not as much for the food as much for the meeting spot. - Katie
Katie and todd: makes me think we should do a FriendFeed meetup there soon! - Robert Scoble
If I get up there, I"ll have to mention it. I was hoping for the holidays but I may have to work. - Katie

“You never hear about Microsoft Dynamics on Twitter or FriendFeed, but when I was in China last week I was watching an entire supply chain switch to it.”
3 hours ago - Link
They picked it because all their developers are .NET ones (PCH in Shenzhen). Big buck deal for Microsoft. - Robert Scoble
Now is that saying something about Twitter/FriendFeed or about Microsoft Dynamics? =) - RAD Moose
RAD: talking about enterprise software isn't as interesting as cat photos. - Robert Scoble
That's not completely true, lolcatz about enterprise software are fun too :) - Daniel W. Crompton
We are going to start using MS Dynamics for our Help Desk system (Nelnet, Inc. NNI) - Susan Beebe
As a former admin/developer, there really isn't much exciting to talk about - Wayne Arthurton
I kind of wish we'd look into it for our help desk. I hate Remedy (it needs a remedy), and we've already got our heads so far stuck into Outlook, Exchange and SharePoint that it might make sense. I'm no expert on these things, though, so I could be totally wrong. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
Define your terms... Dynamic AX? GP? CRM? We use them all and, as a general rule, they are solid. To anyone contemplating CRM, consider publishing the Outlook client via 2008 Terminal Services. It will make your life much simpler. - John Denver
I think the Microsoft Across America events I attended were CRM. I am rather clueless beyond all that. - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
It is popular in India too, especially for small businesses. I know a couple of rapidly growing solution providers implementing and customizing Microsoft apps and not able to keep up with the load. - Dorai
It really does work well with Outlook and thus it makes it easier to go through the same processes. Their early versions were a big buggy when it first came out, but in the last year the program just flies and they did good with it, beats the heck out of SAP if you are already using Outlook by all means. - Barbara Duck
Speaking of SAP things must be a little tight there, working on SAP in "Second life", maybe the customers are more friendly there (grin). SAP has software that goes beyond CRM but that is a large part of it..http://feedproxy.google.com/~r... - Barbara Duck
There's a web based version as well which I have not had time to play around with yet, and I can't remember if it is out of beta yet, but I should connect it to my "Office Live" set up which is solid as a rock and works with the desktop applications very well. - Barbara Duck
Not sure why, but there are some sharp MS-platform minds on Twitter, and there are some sharp MS focused folks here of FF. I'm a mostly MS focused guy and our podcast has plenty of info on it from our collective experience with the products. I guess you just have to find them. - Eric @ CS Techcast

“What's the easiest way to batch-resize images on a Mac?”
2 hours ago - Link
yeah i'd be intested in knowing this too....And if there's a way to batch crop too - that'd be awesome - Zee from WeDoCreative
I found this link (http://www.macworld.com/articl...) but it's a couple of years old. - Carlos Granier-Phelps via IM
Probably using batch operations in Photoshop. - Jason Huebel
I'd rather avoid having to install Photoshop on that computer. I was thinking more along the lines of the Windows XP PowerToy. - Carlos Granier-Phelps via IM
There is an automator script I think in the demo files that can resize a bunch or change the style. - Andrew Leyden
This article says you can do it using Preview (and Automator). Haven't tried it, but looks like it might be what you're looking for: http://is.gd/843N - Rick Martin
A droplet in Photoshop? - Mathew Ballard
there's definitely an app out there for this..i know there is - Zee from WeDoCreative
There has to be, but so far all I've found was programmed circa 2004. - Carlos Granier-Phelps
I'm not sure about batch, but I believe you can do it in iPhoto. - Paul W. Swansen
Great find Zee! Thanks. ;-) - Carlos Granier-Phelps
no probs :) Happy to help - Zee from WeDoCreative
Now all it needs is to be able to automatically save all the resized files with a new name. (Right now you have to click Save As... for each one and enter the details). - Carlos Granier-Phelps
How about using automator? I think there is a resize functionality there. - Tom Mancino
the easiest way is on the command line with ImageMagick http://www.imagemagick.org/scr... See more details here http://www.novell.com/coolsolu... and here http://dptnt.com/2007/09/batch... - Victor Ganata

“iPod touch or iPod nano - (phone not an option) which would you pick as a 'want'”
6 hours ago - Link
I'd go with iPod touch. Much more functionality. - Mark Bao
Touch, definitely - Capn' One-Eye ☠
touch - Jamie
16Gb 1st Gen Touch here. Got it when they first came out. I not only don't leave the house without it, I rarely leave a room without it. - Mark VandenBerg
I've got a 1G Touch and I love it. - Bill Sodeman
def. a touch. - Joshua Schnell
Touch. No question. - Nick Reynolds via fftogo
The Nano. If you hate being awesome. - Phil Glockner
If you'll be going running with you iPod, then the Nano is better, otherwise get a Touch. - Paul Grav
Touch. - Roberto Bonini
Touch. After owning one since it came out it has changed what I use to access the internet. I am probably on the Touch 75% of the time and my laptop the other 25%. Game changing for me. But, I am right on the edge of buying the iPhone, not because I need the phone, but because I want more connectivity than I have been able to get with the Touch. I am not surrounded by free WiFi unless I am at home or certain restaurants and airports. That gets frustrating at times. Oh yeah, and it also plays music and podcasts. Thinking about dropping my Sirius subscription in the car since I listen to the Touch 95% of the time. - Michael Pardee
thanks for all the input - spouse is getting the touch for Christmas (I soooo hope he hates it hehe) It is always good to get your significant other a gift you personally want :) - jlt
I like my second-hand, !activated iPhone 2G :). It's a Touch I can stick a SIM card in. If only I had an adapter that would allow it to work with my FM transmitters. It gets annoying, though, when I don't have access to WiFi, or when I have to re-authenticate to the WiFi at work. T-Mo, call me ;) - MiɳiMagɘ (Sexy Scimitar)
well my touch is doing great...more of a pda though - Anthony Feint
Touch - Lindsey
Like my touch. - Eric @ CS Techcast
Touch dude - Gordon Swaby
