You know what's another way to stimulate social contact amongst kids? Put them in the same room. Or ask them all questions. - Brent Newhall
also arrange desks in a circle is something my HS did. little thing, but made you more aware of all the students, rather then just the teacher. - Chris Harris
I work with jr. high and high school kids at our church regularly. Trust me, just putting them in a room OR asking them questions doesn't stimulate anything. :) - Nathaniel Payne
I don't get it - Pete Delucchi
You know what worked when I was in school? Just put the desks together in groups of 4 and leave them like that. *shrug* - Louie

Save Our Starbucks

"With Starbucks' July 1, 2008 announcement to close 600 stores, there is likely a location near you that is scheduled to close. This is the place to tell the world your Starbucks story and how much you value your local location. Who knows, it may help keep it open..." - Hutch Carpenter via Bookmarklet
haha. I confess I am *not* a Starbucks hater. I was at the Starbuck's at the Lucas complex in the Presidio today -- it's quite lovely (a lot of outdoor seating overlooking a great park). - Robert Seidman
Na,na,na,na, Na,na,na,na. Hey,hey, hey - goodbye. Go and post about starvation in Africa or poverty in America or soldiers dying. Seriously, get a grip! - AJ Kohn
i like when people get behind causes they believe in, but this is pushing it - Cee Bee
Cee Bee, do you think this is a real cause, or a website aimed at making some adsense money? - Robert Seidman
It is a bit over the top. :-p - Aaron Brazell
that's actually a good point, robert. i didn't think of that. could very well just be taking advantage of the buzz surrounding the closings - Cee Bee
I love Starbucks, I'll SO chain myself to the nearest garbage can! - Mona N.
I'm not a Starbucks hater either, but I rarely use them. I do buy their beans sometimes, but I tend to mostly make coffee at home. It's much more economical. - Ian May
I'm a fan of Starbucks too, but it's mainly for the atmosphere. Usually, it's pretty conducive to working. - Aaron Brazell
they over-roast their beans, imo...Peet's is much better - सत्याग्रह [Bren]
huh... saving someone else income at my own expense? where is that HIDE? - silpol
To be fair, most of the time I work at home anyway, and on the days, I go out to visit clients, I always have coffee at home first, and then I make enough to fill a Thermal mug to take in the car with me, so I don't need to stop anywhere to buy another one. - Ian May
I'll walk an extra half mile for a Peets. Robert - I heard the guy who runs this site on NPR today. He's serious about it. Talked about adding collaborative features to the site. Real web 2.0 effort. - Hutch Carpenter
My local java den is Peet's, so whatever. They should prune down the ridiculous Starbucks locations that are within 2 blocks of eachother. - Louie
I'll go to Starbucks if it's convenient but I prefer Seattle's Best if I can find one (I normally can't) or Peet's. But, if I'm serious about a cup of coffee, I'll go to Lighthouse which is, by far, the best coffee in Seattle. I do not, however, want the Starbucks near my house to close. It's brand new, very nice, and very convenient. - Akiva Moskovitz
I'm much more fond of saving my Starbucks stock price than I am saving redundant stores. - JC unwired
I'm a Peet's fan but if they closed my local Peet's ... well, tough cookies. Out of everything to get on a soapbox about I'm just astonished that someone is so insulated to take this on as a cause. Starving kids and poverty yet ... *awww, I have to go another mile to get my $3 latte, whaaa, whaaa* - AJ Kohn

Thanks Bwana! I'm downloading right now :) oh it's finished. see you then. - Kenichi Matsumoto
Yep what the heck, RC3? - Bob Ngu via twhirl
I went directly to the source -> ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.0/ - Mike Marusin
Shit it forces FF as the default browser -- no option to modify during install it seems. - Brian Sullivan

Hmmm..custom installation wants Fx in ..Mozilla Firefox Beta 5 folder, is the link really the final release? - Wictor Wilén
Do we know that the FTP links count? - Voyagerfan5761
I would hope so: FTP and direct HTTP downloads are trivial to track. - Mark Trapp
shit - no firebug for rtm yet...B-(. scrambling to remember how to set "ignore compat" switch... - Shawn L. Morrissey
Will, is that RC3 link also? - Bob Ngu via twhirl
@Voyagerfan5761: Mozilla said they don't earlier. If you do get it from FTP, download it from the main site later. - Jake (aka Jawee) via twhirl
It just installs on top of the existing version. - Richard Bradshaw
What's the md5? My file (windows) has MD5 = c971bb2273d24d62dd15dcdbd6030ea3 - Richard Bradshaw
Dynamite! thanks bwana!!! - Noah Carter
Is really the final version identical to the RC3 and so the version we are downloading is just a set up for the firefox down(load) day - Stéphane Guérin
Thanks Bwana, struggling with server down for minutes :) - Dan H. Racek
I've only downloaded the Mac version, but the md5 matches on both FTP and the link I provided above. Mac OS X md5: 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283 - Bwana
I cant spot much differences between RC3 and the final version - Palin Ningthoujam
There shouldn't be many differences. But so far so good on my system. Seems a little snappier and uses less RAM than earlier betas. - Robert Scoble
excelent - Ruben Llibre
Updated. Thank you, Firefox team. A vast improvement over FF2. - Chris Baskind
Did it. Can I go home now? :) - Naor
is there somewhere (or some tool) to check compatibility with your addons? I don't want to have to go to each individual addons page and read the fine print. - Tim Hoeck
Palin, the final release of FF3 is identical to RC3. No code changes whatsoever; it's the same package. - Gregory Pittman via twhirl
Linked to this from RWW - awesome! :) - Sarah Perez
The welcome page says "Release Candidate 3" after I install from the Mac OS X dmg with an MD5 of 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283. However, the about page says just "version 3.0". - Fred Yankowski via twhirl
The "about" page has said just "Version 3.0" for a while (or at least it does previous in RCs). I can haz actual release and not RC? - Karim
Shawn, go to http://getfirebug.com. Under releases you can download beta 12. It works with 3. I'm not sure how stable it is, so, as with all betas, installer beware! They claim it to be stable. - Joel Gray
...getting off topic here, but I've been using Firebug on FF3 for weeks and it's very stable. - Daniel Shaw
Watch them live on Mogulus...they just said downloading from mozilla.org counts. http://www.mogulus.com/air_moz... - Bwana
thank you, I can finally download FF3 - Rajiv Doshi
yeah, i've been having a hard time getting the updated firebug for ff3. anyone have an alternative download link? - Ivan Stegic
never mind, i just answered my own question. firebug for ff3 is available on the ftp servers too, in a different directory. go herE: ftp://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/addons/1843/ - Ivan Stegic
Thank you very much. - Kevin Porter

My Mac OS version also has MD5 27ff7989db6a206cdfc8989aca9f9283 - can someone confirm whether it's really final or RC3 (or provide an official confirmation that final == RC3)? - Chester

Check out the 100 Strangers group on Flickr. Here's what they're doing: Step out of your comfort zone to a new level of portrait photography. Start by taking 100 portraits of people you don't know. The idea: The One Hundred Strangers project is a learning group for people who want to improve the social and technical skills needed for taking portraits of strangers and telling their stories. The method is learning by doing. The project is lots of fun and improves photojournalistic skills. During the process you might expand your every day living experience - and who knows, maybe you will even get a couple of new friends during the process. We welcome both beginner and advanced photographers. You may be new to photographing strangers or already have experience of this type of photography. The challenge: Take 100 photographs of at least 100 people you don't know. Approach a person or group of people and ask for permission to both take a photo of them and to post it to this group. Get to know your subjects. - Lisa L. Seifert
Stupid comment character limit... And the rest: Who are they? What is their life like? Try to tell a small story with each photo you take. This may be a story about the person or how you felt approaching that particular individual. You may have, for example, tried a new approach or used a new photographic technique. Try to learn something from every encounter you make. http://www.flickr.com/groups/1... - Lisa L. Seifert
Lisa, I love the 100 Strangers Group. Trejack was working on this in Las Vegas when we were there. Has anyone done it in a single day yet? - Thomas Hawk
Sounds like a good idea... - Mike Wills
you have a good heart. That's an awesome idea ! And the idea of blogging what they tell you -- that's awesome. Maybe you should put your $2 in the camera phone sleeve ... - General Kafka
