Or ... it's criticism of people for being overweight by sites like this that depresses them and causes them to seek comfort in delicious food like this, exacerbating the issue.

Yep. Piece of video from AMERICA'S FUNNIEST HOME VIDEO. Don't ask how I know that. I'm still trying to forget that I was watching that show.

AFHV? Oh no! That must mean someone hits the panda in the groin, I don't want to see that video.

The Malayan Flying Fox is one of the largest bats in the world with a wingspan of up to six feet. Malayan Flying bats are found in the forests and orchards of Burma, Thailand, Phillippines, and Malaysia. It's definitely more cost effective to rent these. We got one for our office (delonghi model). Between the staff we were spending 100's a week in buying coffee from a nearby outlet. Now we spend $40 a month plus beans once a week (~60 a month).
- Mo Kargas
A friend installed a fancy built-in machine in her remodeled kitchen 5 years ago. Since it keeps track of the number of drinks made, she figured that they are now down to 18 cents a cup! Big improvement over what they were spending on Starbucks!
- Anne Bouey
Anne, do you know which machine that is or have a picture? I'm curious.
- jho
I bought a superautomatic a few years ago (Saeco), best $800 I ever spent. Was a bit concerned that the espresso wasn't going to be up to par, but its as good as my trusty old Gaggia, and better than the average barista-quality pull.
- JCunwired
Jauder, the coffee machine my friends have is a Miele coffee system. They bought it 6 years ago for about $1600; they were able to get a very good deal on it at the time.
- Anne Bouey
Anne, thanks! Now that I think about it, my uncle has a pretty nice setup too. I will have to check it out the next time I am over there.

for these bills, you'll get a better exchange rate on ebay :P (in my case, with shipping, i paid $1.25 apiece - cheaper than the other auctions i saw ending) - just need to find the right market

The vignetting on those pictures is unusual. How did you take those photos?

gabe - just my sd1000 with the flash, nothing special beyond that - any other effect is probably just the angle of the shot or something

*sigh* I hate coming back from a few days away from FF to see posts about how 'dumb' everything is here. 1st: what qualifies as 'dumb'? IQ under 100? 140? 2nd: who the hell said all smart people had to talk about the same serious friggin' things all the time?
Get over it, folks: even geniuses like to laugh sometimes. Horror of horrors, they even have bad days and get whiney. The fact that you can do that AND have serious conversations on FF is one of the things that I like so much about it. If all you're seeing is 'dumb' conversations on FF then there are one of three things happening: 1) you're following the wrong people or 2) you're not taking the time to read enough of the material flowing through your stream or 3) you're concept of 'dumb' is exceedingly restrictive, unrealistic, and places an unmeetable burden of perpetual excellance upon those you follow. Get over yourself.
- FFing Enigma
Heavenly: I read the better part of three books and drank the lion's share of coffee made =D Yours?

And this is why I you are the best ever, Tina. You are exactly right.
- Michelle M
Thunder-mega-like on this one. Well said, Tina!
- Jared Smith
People deride what they don't understand or can't control. Glad to be one of the "dumb" ones!
- Robert Scoble
You want genius?! Was it a dream where you see yourself standing in sort of sun-god robes on a pyramid with a thousand naked women screaming and throwing little pickles at you? Why am I the only one who has that dream?
- mikepk
Sorry, mum! I tried to keep them in line but you know how things get when you're not here....and Johnny's messed up his room again....and the funny smell in the kitchen? I think one of the LOLcats did a Fitzgerald...
- WoH: Minding her Steves
What frustrates me more than anything is that it's exactly this point of view that casts intelligence as equal to 'elitism'. The theory that intelligence equates to shunning all other aspects of your humanity is why the rest of the population thinks being smart isn't all it's cracked up to be.
- FFing Enigma
You mean no one else watched "Real Genius" over and over again on G4 over the holidays like I did?
- Victor Ganata
I much prefer dumb I'm afraid and am proud of it. Just don't tell anyone i can also understand a little of that computer speek too! I give up mikepk.
- SteVe C
could it be that the "emperor has no clothes" even in Tech, and that non of us (aspirations notwithstanding) rise above the level of human being flawed as that entity is known to be?
- Gregg
Awesome, glad you guys didn't let me down. :) this whole thread reminded me of it a little
- mikepk
Wow, Stupid< you launched a great discussion here. 2 points from me... 1. Everything is something different to every individual and we as Americans/Humans should respect that. 2. No way Scoble lives by his statement in comment 7! Robert, I truly admire the way you operate on the web (most of the time) but you are very judgmental of applications if you don't like them.
- Cody Heitschmidt
Cody: I protect my friends from stupid applications and stupid people. I blocked Igor the Troll for the same reason.
- Robert Scoble
Tina, you're ... like... my hero and stuff.
- Josh Haley
and who says that idiots (like me) can't talk about serious things sometimes. we dummies don't always have to HAZ BURGERZ or make sex jokes about other people's posts. So why do dummies (again, like me) choose to do so? Conscious choice. By choice. Mostly. Boobs.
- Morgan
Robert, I understand and seriously admire that, my concern is this, on these sites your a 100% a top tier source. (i.e. Fox News, ABC News, CNN on T.V.) and while you obviously became that way by being credible, (just like TV News once was) bring your opinions of what dumb is very subjective. I worry that followers on here won't give things a chance that might work better for them than the did for you. Maybe its all dumb, just whats in my head!
- Cody Heitschmidt
I read back through my last comment and it doesn't make sense, I sound like Rodney King "can't we all just get along" My point is there is room for everyone to do it there way on the web. We should just let things happen until we dislike them so much we go to a VC and do it our way!
- Cody Heitschmidt
hear hear FF is a wonderful experiment in live R&D I admire them hugely
- Thomas Power
And then there are just the genus lurkers - who are quite happy to watch...
- Thrivelearning
<pun>Robert, genus lurkers are a different animal altogether </pun> =D
- FFing Enigma
Totally agree Tina. All serious all the time would be boring.
- Alistair (alpinefolk)
I see what you did there, Tina. Slipping in elitist knowledge like that - for shame! :)
- WoH: Minding her Steves
This all started when asshole Arrington dissed FF with his lame Scoble "intervention" blog post. He said FF was full of "grunt" conversations. I corrected that nasty perception, but I am afraid he's poisoned the well now

Once you come out as a queer, the lid's off the jar. People assume you're engaged in all kinds of shameful depravities anyway, so yeah, I'll take it.
- Derrick
o_O Derrick, do you mean that you're NOT engaged in all kinds of shameful depravities?!?
- Ladyepiphanybug
Is this supposed to be an insult? :o)

I'm so pleased to be surrounded by so many of my own kind. Perverts unite! (PS, Derrick I love it when gays call themselves "queer". It's one of the most endearing words I've ever heard :)

With the iPhone 3G software unlock being set loose tomorrow, we were hoping to sit down and have a chat with the ones behind the handy work. We got into contact with the Dev Team and, sure enough, they were down to spare a bit of time on the eve of their big release.

You're not alone, Mona -- Vista does the same to me. It's taken away a lot of my normal troubleshooting avenues in the name of "making it easier."
- Jared Smith
Welcome to my world. But seriously, Vista was only a problem on my UMPC. Every other device I put it on was quite usable.
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
Vista, even more so then XP, really, really likes to be attached to a network with a server -- Think Home Server and life is simple. That said, Viata can be networked, but much of the network trouble comes from routers and the manufacturers belief they must design and implement for simpletons.
- Robert Miller
If it makes you feel any better I've never used Vista; and God help me I never will.

Mona, I also felt impurely tainted after having to install Vista for the first time almost two months ago...on a server-grade machine!

Vista was why I switched to all Mac. Have you tried drinking while you work? I've often found that helps me during frustrating computer work.
- Andrew
Just think about how good you will feel when you beat Vista into submission.

Of course, I've had to re-install Leopard 4 times now. OS's suck, in no particular order.

When I think I have an OS I can live with, it vomits on me. Over it! Dream of creating MY OS. Know the specs, but who has time & $?
- Brad Nickel
I'm loving my current configuration of UbuntuStudio. Don't miss Vista much at all.
- Jack&Cleo
@Jesse: I haven't dared install Leopard yet. I'm afraid of getting the Blue Screen of Death or the Non-Working Keyboard of Death. I meant to do it before my AppleCare ran out, but I failed.
- MiniMage, enterRUPPted
I just started playing with Vista 64bit on a decent Core 2 Quad box. So far, so good!
- Phil Glockner
BTW Mona, all Microsoft operating systems only allow their operators to have alpha emotions: satisfaction, rage, impatience, frustration. Uncertainty and inferiority are not allowed.
- Phil Glockner
Phil, I actually like my Vista 64 bit as well. It takes a decent-sized machine though, and I'd never trust it on a laptop. Also, for awhile app developers weren't writing software for it.
- Jesse Stay
@Jesse: Vista64 is great on laptops with Core2Duos and 4GB or more of RAM. I run it wherever I have 64-bit-capable processors.
- Tommy Williams
Vista was PWND by yours truly. YES. (wow, this thread is pretty awesome btw. and I haven't seen SPK 1 in a LONG time haha)
