Apologies if this has already been covered to death, but I keep finding random folks in my feed that I didn't actively subscribe to (although I'm sure they're lovely). Anyone else? A beta problem perhaps?
Same here. I was automagically put in the Beta Feedback room and a couple others. I just figured it was Beta related. I've had FoaF turned off foreva-eva
- Paul Reynolds
These folks are friends of people you have subscribed to. The new beta doesn't state that. When somebody you've subscribed to "likes" or comments to a thread, then it will show up in your feed.
- Dawn
You can change this so it doesn't happen in the settings.
- Dawn
You can turn it off in your settings if you don't like it.
- Andrew
The "friend of" entries always say "Paul commented on this" or "Paul liked this". If you're seeing other entries, please post a screenshot so that we can debug. Paul Reynolds, you should not be in Beta-Feedback unless you joined that room -- see http://friendfeed.com/setting... to check your subscription history.
- Paul Buchheit
Where do you turn it off in your settings for the home deed, Andrew?
- Alex Scoble
You will, however, see posts sent to Beta feedback if someone posted it to their feed and the room at the same time and you're subscribed to their feed.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
Alex - I lied. It isn't in the settings. You have to hide a FoF message and then click the "hide other posts like this" button to see the option for turning off FoF stuff.
- Andrew
Tina: I bet that's what I'm seeing. I forgot you could cross post in the new Beta.
- Paul Reynolds
You can turn it off, as indicated above - although this is often a great source of new information (and friends).
- jcunwired
Actually no, this isn't a "Robert Scoble commented on this" FoaF type of thing. Just random folks. If I click over to their profile, FF indicates I've already subscribed to them, at which point I can unsub. I've been cleaning them up, but will post screenshot if/when it happens again.
- Sarah Lane
I've noticed a couple random posts on the "My Discussions" page like that. They only caught my eye because they're not in English, don't have the FoaF notation, and I haven't Liked them. I've just been writing it off as beta-ness.
- Ken Sheppardson
Somehow I got 1000 new subscriptions myself. It's kind of jammed up my feed. This happened to me once before when I enabled the Friendfeed app on Facebook. At the time, Scoble said it had happened to him. I turned the Facebook app back on when beta emerged on Monday and got a bunch of new subs. I immediately removed it from Facebook and so far no more new subs. Might be a coincidence but... I'd sure like a way to manage subscriptions. Maybe an "erase all and start over button."
- Leo Laporte
That's happened to me more than once, too, and I can't figure out what's causing it.
- Trish R
I think that you'll see not just the people you subscribe to, but any entry that they "like" or comment on. I don't like it either.
- Ghodmode
from twhirl
One way to help me manage the bloat: add a "Delete" item to the drop down on the Friends page in standard view. Then I could select all and delete en masse. Paul Buchheit or Bret Taylor, are you listening? (And is there a bug in your Facebook app?)
- Leo Laporte
Ghodmode, that's not what is happening to me. I am actually subscribed to people I did not subscribe to, not just someone showing up as FOAF by someone I'm subscribed to liking or commenting.
- Trish R
I just checked - I thought it might be the "add friends from twitter" tool but all of my new "friends" are from Facebook, not Twitter. For me, anyway, it's a "feature" of the Friendfeed Facebook application. As soon as I uninstalled it the auto-subs stopped.
- Leo Laporte
Leo: We have an easy way to manage recently made subscription modifications: http://friendfeed.com/setting.... There's no bug with the FriendFeed Facebook application; it's supposed to auto subscribe you to your friends (which for most people is a small number, not 1000s) http://friendfeed.com/about...
- Benjamin Golub
And here I thought Sarah Lane was actually interested in what I had to say *sob*
- Mike Nayyar
I think it has to do when someone you're subscribed to comments to someone you don't know. You don't get subscribed to that person, but the original post to which your "friend" replied to pops up in your feed.
- Jean Sebastien Dussault
from twhirl
I verified today that I'm getting posts in my timeline from people that I'm not subscribed to and rooms I'm not joined in. I'm not on the beta site.
- Paul Reynolds
me2.. I am using Twhirl and I get all sorts of crap I don't want to read..!

Guys, have you noticed that sometimes the number 1 search result on google also has a list of links pointing to parts of the result website. Click on the pic to see what am I talking about. Does anyone know how can we achieve this for our websites, once we do manage to get them ranked #1? Thanks folks.
If your site gets a bunch of Google juice, your navigation gets included in the results. I think it's a factor of those individual sub-pages ranking as well.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
It is done automatically by Google, we cant control it, i remember reading it is mentioned so somewhere in the google webmaster tools groups.
- TrafficBug
They're called "Sitelinks" and generated algorithmically (but you can turn individual ones off in your Webmaster Tools account): http://www.google.com/support...
- John μller
Thanks everyone for chiming in. Much appreciated :-)

If you are in any doubt about the great things that can come out of the 30DC, listen to this interview with Nathan - a really open, natural guy who is now experiencing much success since the 30DC - http://www.swbnetwork.com/blog...
Traffic Android looks wicked. I can't see how much it is after the $1 trial. Anyone know?
- Isha (Marysia)
Nice to listen to such a down to earth chap, great interview. Can not wait until next weeks (hope it comes off), could you ask him about his box?
- Groobers
Don't quote me, Marysia, but I think it is $27 monthly
- Lisa
Groobers, who do you think I am interviewing and who's Twayla? I'm really confused!
- Lisa
Are you referring to Twyla Tharpe's box Groobers?
- Isha (Marysia)
$27 seems pretty cool for what Traffic Android does.
- Isha (Marysia)
Oh, is it something to do with MacExpo and Merlin Mann's presentation (referencing Twyla Tharpe's book The Creative Habit)?
- Lisa
Lisa, congratulations on doing such a great interview. Very professionally done, and it was great listening to such a cool interviewee.
- Ritesh Lal
Sorry Lisa and Yes Marysia I am talking about Twyla Tharpe's box (made me giggle when I listen to it) but the idea of the box for each new project, the scratching around with ideas and then the hard part that follows actually making something out of all of the information you have collected, got me wondering about his box.
- Groobers
i was so happy to see this. i mean, seriously, i've been longing for a president that "gets it" when it comes to technology, and wants to truly stay in touch... and then they were trying to take that away from him? good for him for sticking to his guns on that issue. i think he'll be a better president for it.
- Shawn C. Reed
I second that.finally a mobile president that's productive and gets technology
- nick
I'm more interested in his foreign policy and his solutions for our economy than I am about him being able to play with a crackberry. It's cool, but very far from being as important as some are making it out to be.
- MarkCarras
I don't care if the NSA has approved of him using the device. It just seems like an unnecessary risk to me. Anything can be hacked in this day and age.
- Ken McNamee
he wouldn't be using it for anything top-secret, that's for sure. i agree that anything can be hacked, but i don't think that's too much of a concern with what he'd be using it for.
- Shawn C. Reed
Shawn, how do you know what he'll be using it for? Also, history is filled with instances of intelligence agencies compiling seemingly innocuous communications into a broader picture of events that may transpire. All Obama has to do is one day tell someone he is looking forward to spending some time back home and the next day mention that he's craving a particular meal at a restaurant, etc. It won't take long before an enemy can figure out where he will be at a specific time and exploit that.
- Ken McNamee
Also talked audio books without naming names, and it was 5.1 million Brits - one of his highest ratings. It had an effet as well - my Sister-in-law (a Head Teacher) found and started following me, She has not found me on FF though :-)
- Ian D. Nock
Interesting when Tom Cruise was asked if he does anything on the internet. I don't think the COS allows its members to use the internet, at least not unfiltered.
- Gregg H.
Very interesting niche. And nice Squidoo lens too :) I do strongly agree that learning should be fun and enjoyable. But not only that, it should spark a passion and fill the heart with excitement... Well, that's just me...
- Art Y.
Good Work Melissa, Liked the video too, nice touch. Get that bio up it's important to relationship building. Good job
- Kenneth Hamilton
Fundamentals are called that for a reason - thanks for the timely reminder, Ed - Can I still be excited about getting a Mac Book Pro? It should arrive Saturday...Wish I could be at #OTE2 - maybe the next one...
- SteveH
Used those very tools at 3am - Just can not seem to switch off these days! #30dc Get out of my Head!
- Groobers
yes indeed - isn't that how J.K. Rowling started Harry Potter? On a bar nap no less!
- Elizabeth
The Facebook ad network is straightforward & allows for some great targeting. I found the PPC rates a little high but with some research and the right keywords, it's obviously a potential channel to consider.
- 3rdincome
I know some people doing really well with it!
- Ed Dale
And you know, the stuff you'd pay for isn't half as good as what's taught in the 30DC
- Ken Nadreau
it is not only free, but Ed actually pays to bring us thet training. With so many people participating even Amazon S3's fee can be significant...

Very grateful for what Thirty Day Challenge is doing for us. :)

Ed seemed to be deliberately speaking in a low voice. This could be an old teachers' trick to make people listen carefully, or it could be not to disturb or alert some other person in the same house.
- Andy Roberts
I totally agree. Pre-season lessons have doubled my site traffic and quadrupled my profits. Favorite tools: Flock, Google Reader, YouTube, Digg, StumbleUpon, friendfeed, Skitch, Conduit Toolbars, and of course my MacBook Pro :)

Well stickam wont even work on my schools network. They block all ports except 80,443,22 and a few others. And flash does not seem to follow proxies. So I can't tunnel it over ssh. Is there going to be a recording?
- Tony Speer
So is Woz going to wait in line for the iPhone 2.0?
- Kevin Fox
I hope there is some audio of this. Dial up and stickam don't mix.
- Mol, Santa Claws
Please put the audio for this out. Couldn't listen to this since I was asleep.
- Manu Ullas

Ahh I missed him, please make it a podcast. I hope you were recording.

Is anyone else using tags+feeds? Still working out the notes aspect. Sometimes I get duplicates one entry with note and the other without. Tips/tricks to avoid this?
- Debra Durham
This really is great. Set up individual tags and create multiple public reader feeds. Love it!
