"The grilled cheese is the perfect sandbox for culinary innovation. It's so easy to make that a monkey (maybe with some oven mitts) could figure it out, and its gooey interior can accommodate almost any idea, good or bad, that you can throw at it. Different types of cheese? No brainer. How about throwing some slices of stuff in with the cheese? Sure! You can add meat, you can change up the bread type, and you can even use two whole grilled cheeses as the bun for one bacon cheeseburger, if you're either college-aged or suicidal. But until now, one final frontier of grilled cheese had remained: the all-cheese grilled cheese. No bread, no fillings, just cheese. Nick at Dude Foods managed to pull this off thanks to an invention of America's cheese headquarters, Wisconsin, called "bread cheese." It's made of pressed, baked squeaky cheese curds, based on a Finnish cheese called Juustoleipa (which is fun to say), and it substituted perfectly for the real thing. Nick popped a piece of American cheese between two bread cheese "slices," sauteed it in some oil, and prayed that he wouldn't drop dead on the spot."

Um. I've had fried cheese, but I'm not sure I'd want fried cheese around other cheese without something else there. I like cheese so much, but half of the greatness that is a grilled cheese sandwich is really tasty bread.

One of my favorite grilled cheese creations is to cross it with garlic bread: Italian bread smothered in butter, garlic, grated Romano cheese, oregano, lots of fresh ground black pepper...and American cheese. Close it up like a sandwich and stick it in the oven till it is toasted and the cheese is melted.

There were some bugs in the "Twitter publishing" code that caused some entries to get published on Twitter when they should not, and others to not get published when they should. Matthew, in general all the same settings that the old ui had are available on the new one (plus a few more), though they are now divided on to several different pages. You should be able to reach all of the the settings by clicking on the word "settings" below your name in the top-right part of the page (the dialog shows a few, and links to all the others).

Yeah, unfortunately the code had gotten rather involved since it was trying to support both the old ui and the new (the old ui worked on a per-service basis instead of letting you decide individually on each entry), and the logic sometimes became inconsistent. I simplified it quite a bit, so there should be less room for bugs now :)

Do you see any favicons that made the transition from earlier version. No? I'm a bit confused about the "Post my FriendFeed entries on Twitter by default" and "FriendFeed (when there's no Cc box)" options. Are these exclusive? Does checking the first one mean all my FriendFeed posts will get posted to Twitter even if I uncheck the Cc box?

Tony, the "cc twitter by default" option sets whether then checkbox is checked or unchecked by default in the share box and bookmarklet. The other option ("when there's no cc box") applies mostly to the API and other off-site interfaces, such as email (mail share@friendfeed.com) and IM. For any given post, only one setting applies.

Thanks Brian. It turns out there was a bug in the "Share" feature that sometimes caused us to sometimes not send the tweets (the new code errors on the side of not sending tweets). It's fixed now though. Please let me know if you spot any others.

Hello Paul, when I try to publish just my google talk status to twitter and have "Link to source site instead of FriendFeed conversation" selected, it doesn't send the tweet. I'm not sure if this is because twitter seems to be having difficulty right now or if it's the lack of a source link because it's a google talk status?

yes, we did the podcast when ff was acquired by the book of face.. watched them absorb the real-time elements and i check in from time to time usually through this post as it brings back very fond memories. google + reminds me of the early days of ff - haven't felt that way about any of the social nets that have come since the facedbooked swallow up. heaven knows we've been on them all and they seem so ancient now -- quora anyone? google got it right with +. think it marks the next era for them.

Yes, it has some totally unbelievable moments in it as all comedies tend to do, but the casting of this movie is pure genius. I connected with all of the people in the movie because they cast people who really fit their roles. It's really refreshing to see that level of commitment on the part of the filmmakers to get the cast as true to real life as you are likely to see come out of Hollywood.

Another great moment in the debate was when Obama said that parents shouldn't be lazy and to put down the video games- and a virtual realtime friendfeed storm started happening all over my iPhone. I'm saying, people were pissed.

I agree with that comment of Obama's too. School may be for education, but parents should be teaching their kids how to behave. That includes moral guidance, a sense of right and wrong, discipline too. Also sex ed and guidance should be a parental responsibility not a schools.

In the school my mother taught at for 35 years, they had to start offering dental services to children AT SCHOOL because parents weren't doing it AT HOME. This alongside the school psychologist/psychiatrist, the free/reduced lunches and offering breakfast & childcare for low income kids as well. I'm not saying these things shouldn't be done - but that is why we're spending so much on education. The school is taking care of what isn't being taken care of at home. I should add that is in a suburban school.

I think he was talking about family priorities. Many of the 8th graders in my sister's classroom have PS3's or xboxes at home but honestly do no have/own notebooks, folders, pencils, or $ for after school activities.

If people are mad that Obama said this, I think they're overreacting. It's not like he was demonizing TV and video games outright. There's just an increase in parents not taking responsibility to discipline their kids in all aspects, including having a balance between reading, learning, having the thirst for knowledge, and playing video games, watching TV, and doing other stuff like that.

Growing up, I played a lot of NES, Sega, had my own computer and spent a lot of time on it. But I was also a voracious reader, had strong interests in science (not so much math) and English, and generally had a good balance with my interests. The balance isn't so great now with kids. And a lot of parents do not discipline their kids like my parents disciplined me (it bugs the crap out of me, seeing kids running wild in stores and not getting scolded). I think his call to parents was correct and necessary.
