It's almost like we are one connected world :-)
- Todd Hoff
Yeah, it's a trip seeing the effects of the tsunami hit here. Watching a boat floating around on the news. The Santa Cruz Harbor was damaged.
- Rodfather
yeah on a ligher note...I also heard that the Cali surfers are lookin forward for the waves =>surfs up dude !
- Peter Dawson
Not on a lighter note: One has to wonder how many people will be killed because they Really Want to See The Pretty Waves in various parts of the rim of fire? Or won't hear the part about "for the next 12 hours"? Can almost guarantee there will be at least one self-inflicted casualty because of this apparently incurable desire.
- Walt Crawford
@Walt, I am sure that the surfers in Cali are concerned about what happens in Japan and other places.. but the one should not also neglect the joys of nature when it presents itself
- Peter Dawson
Peter: It's actually not the surfers I'm worried about, and I agree that you don't neglect the joys of nature...it's the people who don't understand that these waves are/can be dangerous. (OK, it's *some* of the surfers.) I guess I don't regard tsunamis as one of the "joys of nature."
- Walt Crawford
wrt "regard tsunamis as one of the "joys of nature." - I doubt people enjoy the stress and pain other feel with the impacts of an quake and tsunami !
- Peter Dawson
Yep--and before they fixed the story, it had as its last sentence that some surfers had ignored the evacuation notices and gone out to Catch The Wave. Not a difficult prediction on my part, even if--so far--nobody's killed.
- Walt Crawford
@Walt, actually I just got tidbit.. 4 peeps were swept out. .!

Say my name, say my name, say my stupid name.
It's stupid how we always seem to do it again, oh.
You're so stupid and perfect,
And stupid and perfect.

When people start trying to tell me what I can or can't talk about on friendfeed or how I can or can't talk about it, it's time to check out. It was fun while it lasted, but I think it's time to hang it up.
Just as you can express an opinion about whatever you like, so others can express their opinions about what you post. I, for one, was being silly. Which is why I made a point of admitting my own guilt in my first comment. If others are directly telling you what to do, you should tell them where they can stick it and go on being you. For that matter, tell me, too.
- Bren
from iPhone
Yep, Bren, if this was only about your comments, I wouldn't have made this statement.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I am a narcissist, but not that much of one ;)
- Bren
from iPhone
The problem is that my doings on here are seriously annoying friends for one reason or another and it makes this forum really hard to use when I can't be myself. It also really hurts to be called selfish from people that I like and admire, or when others say other things. If that makes me selfish, then so be it.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I thought you had a pretty thick skin, Alex. Is it wearing down?
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
My skin is not so thick when it comes to critiques from friends, Kamilah, I think.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
And Bren, I would never tell a friend to stick it when they are voicing their opinion, unless they were being really rude about it.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I never fucking censor myself and I hate beer.
- Melly Botts
Alex: you're more polite than I am, in that case. I'm more likely to tell a friend to stick it than I am a stranger. :)
- Bren
from iPhone
I often hold my tongue because I don't want to get involved in a big argument about nothing important. If that's censoring myself, then I censor myself. Doesn't mean everyone else has to do it.
- I like big Botts
I think everyone (who doesn't want to drive everyone else away) censors themselves a little bit, or posts certain things in certain groups when appropriate. It's not good to just have total FF Tourette Syndrome and post *everything* that pops into one's head. Some people might enjoy a feed full of that, but a lot of people probably won't.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
Oh, hell, I censor myself all the time...and I still get into trouble. And that's what makes life interesting. Don't leave...that's the easy way out.
- Walt Crawford
Yeah, I filter myself a lot more than I used to, but it's still never enough for some people.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Then they're the ones who should go, not you.
- Melly Botts
Well then, that's tough tits for those people. You can't please everyone.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
The reason I love FriendFeed is that everyone can post whatever they like, and they do! Even if there are some things that I probably don't care for, I just ignore those items. I know there are things that I post that I might annoy a few people. You can't please everyone, so all you can do is please yourself. *hugs* Alex, I say "Post away!"
- Shevonne
Thanks, Shevonne. I just think this community keeps getting fragmented over these deals and it makes me sad.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Alex: don't give in. Be yourself and the rest can f*ck off!
- Jorge Escobar
And this is the worst kind of drama to be having here too...Nobody likes these "I'm taking my ball and going home" threads
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
I never intentionally try to offend anyone, but by the same token, if anyone doesn't like what I say or link to, then unfollow me. Period. I try to post in appropriate places, but at the end of the day, I will not censor myself because of over-sensitive people.
- Ian May
Over time I have actually become more "radical" and if people don't like that, too bad, block me, unfriend me, it's their loss, not mine. I wouldn't change for anyone, not even (close) friends.
- Rene, Pro Button Pusher
O, Alex. Most people imagine that you are bullet proof because you post with abandon (or apparent abandon). That's your style. I'll bet a great many take comfort that as sure as the sun comes up every morning, you are unbroken voice on FF. But you are human. Fielding criticism from friends is never straight forward. Sometimes a point is off base and can just be ignored or replied to in...

I like the Alex style (even though I'm still always right :) )

I haven't read all the comments, but FF will be very boring if you leave, seems to be the thing now, Mo's gone now you! We can't break up our family/friends/community on FF. Maybe just take a break from FF, but don't leave.
- Halil
All I will say is that the feeling sounds very familiar. I can relate.
- Angel R. Rivera
Thanks all...Sorry for jumping the shark with this thread.
- Scoble, Alex Scoble
Sorry to see you go (if you're not swayed). I say let rip with your opinions - don't filter yourself. If people don't like it, fuck them! You're not here for them.
- Amy
I annoy people all the time here, but never done in a trollish way (I promise!). I don't want to offend anyone, of course, but I just hope FF remains a place where we feel safe to post what we want and not worry about repercussions, while at the same time not wanting it to be just another lame trollish Digg comment thread. I don't think anyone wants that.
- Fleagle
you are going let them dictate to you?
- Valz 4 Botts
Alex, I think I need to say this very simply: I love you. We love you. This can be a wonderful community of friends... and every community of human beings has its, well, less than stellar moments. This happens the most at places where we feel safe to be ourselves: at home, at places of worship, and here on friendfeed. We know it's a place where we can behave badly, because we will still...

- Arlan K.
Alex, just stay. Or I will have to hunt you down and argue with you in person.

Holy shit is this revelatory. Wonderfully demonstrates how the Rolling Stones sound is more than just the sum of its parts, with the component tracks of one of their key songs, “Gimme Shelter,” from 1969’s Let it Bleed album.

This has been everywhere today, so I'm guessing all the audio has been ripped by now - and will be being used by enterprising producers as we speak.....
- Iain Baker
Apparently this is out of print, not available on Netflix (this goes into the "saved" queue with an unknown release date), and no sign that I can see of it being rereleased before Tron Legacy comes out. WTF? I know Disney likes to do these into-the-vault things an take things in and out of print often, but wouldn't you want it available just before a sequel?
- Jandy
I haven't tried USC's library, but they have really restrictive lending on DVDs. The LA Public Library doesn't have it.
- Jandy
I bought mine at Target for like 10-12 bucks last year. Sucks it's out of print right NOW with the sequel just about in theaters.
- Derrick
Thanks, Akiva - Amazon just has where you can sign up to see when the blu-ray's available, no pre-order. If they were releasing it alongside Tron Legacy, which comes out in less than three weeks, I'd think they'd have it for pre-order. But maybe not. We'll see. In any case, I don't want to watch the sequel without rewatching the original - I hardly remember anything about it.
- Jandy
Seriously??? The whole LA Public Library doesn't have Tron and Indianapolis' library does? Huh?
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
Weird. It's on almost constant rotation on the satellite movie channel over here, so I've got it saved to the hard disk :)
- Iain Baker
Kamilah, they have it on VHS. I don't have a VCR anymore. Iain, I hadn't thought of looking on TV! It may in fact show up somewhere on there. I'll look.
- Jandy
D, sounds like you lucked out! The Amazon used listings are running at around $130 now.
- Jandy
Hm. Our library has it on DVD, and I'm not sure if they're still lending VHS or not (other than maybe educational tapes and items that didn't get released as DVDs). It's just weird to me that Indianapolis is ahead of LA in this small way.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
It could be a sign that LA's library system had copies but they wore out, broke, went missing, etc., and couldn't be replaced. Hard to tell.
- Katy S
Yeah, Katy, I wondered if that might be the case. I'm sure LA probably has a lot more library circulation going on than the Indianapolis area does.
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
I'm guessing Katy's right. They probably had it at some point and don't anymore.
- Jandy
I watched it on SyFyUK just the other day :-P
- Slippy
LA's public library isn't in the best shape, I can attest to that.
- Derrick
Lame! We borrowed Tron from Netflix a while ago... Perhaps all of their copies got "lost". :-/
- Cheryl Jones
Well, if used copies are selling for upwards of $100, there's a fair bit of incentive for people to "lose" them along the way. :/
- Jandy
I sold my copy on ebay for 60 bucks last week. Couldn't resist.
- Noah Belson
Man, I coulda borrowed it from you. :p But yeah, that's what I mean.
- Jandy
io9 has this short blurb about the possibility of Disney keeping Tron out of print until after the new one comes out, to avoid deterring younger viewers by exposing how dated it looks. Not sure if there's any truth to that, but it is interesting. http://io9.com/5690466...
- Noah Belson
Hmmm, possibility. I guess they're more worried about that than people deciding not to go see it until they've had a chance to see the original? I certainly don't think I'd go see it if I'd NEVER seen the original; I have, I just don't remember it too clearly.
- Jandy
My guess is, Disney's keen to avoid turning off the young folks, who they likely assume only care about stuff that's cool and modern. For those folks, Tron Legacy being a direct follow up to 28 year old movie is a negative, but to everyone else- it's a huge positive.
- Noah Belson
Do you suppose they went far enough to get Netflix to stop renting their copies? :p
- Jandy
Depends on the leather. Some of it has been 'sealed' which means it wont absorb any of the good stuff in some cleaners (might make it hazy). I use Lexol in the car - works great, but the manufacturor might have other ideas.
- Shannon - GlassMistress
I use a decent quality Leather Balsam, which will not only clean, but revive and polish as well. Check out a small test patch first, then away you go!
- Iain Baker
Just cover all your furniture in clear plastic.
- Andy Bakun
go to a local leather clothing store and tell them what type of leather you have (i know your referring to furniture, but the leather store should carry better stuff)
