Iowa Web Awards / Iowa Flood with Andy Brudtkuhl (Des Moines) It was hard not to keep socializing with people from the #dmtweetup group, but I really was interested in what Andy had to say. He has done a lot of work with Wordpress CMS systems, as well as Yahoo Pipes - pulling in content from a lot of sources to make one “point of contact” super-site using RSS feeds. Good stuff.

Iowa Floods. Another all-in-one resource site created by a Des Moines consulting firm, 48Web. Created in early June in response to the extensive and devastating floods in Iowa, the site captures all flood-related online communications in one place- Twitter, YouTube, blogs, Flikr and general news. The site became a popular resource for residents in the Iowa area and is yet another great example on how social media is transforming and being used most efficiently and effectively in times of need.

Web stuff: Internet entrepreneurs Jon Gaskell and Michael Ferrari witnessed the power of brand loyalty last week when customers of their SmartyPig Web site launched attacks on a company called TrustyPig that had appropriated the SmartyPig logo. Local bloggers - including Nathan T. Wright, Andy Brudtkuhl and Brett Trout - created posts and Twitter messages informing customers that TrustyPig was using the SmartyPig Web design features illegally. Within a couple days, TrustyPig began replacing its Web designs, Gaskel said.
