You know, you could have just started feeding in your tweets here and achieved the same, right? Or would that have been too subtle?

Twitter appears to be down for me. Attempted to access it via web with both accounts; no luck. TweetDeck and Seemic isn't pulling up Twitter; nor can I access any Twitter pages. Web gives an error that reads "problems loading page connection was reset". However, the "IsTwitterDown" page says it is functioning.
- H0llywoodWh0re
Thank you Bill. However, I tested that site with other social media networks and it's telling me everything is down. Maybe an error within the site.
- H0llywoodWh0re
Thanks everyone. I thought twitter wasn't liking me this morning -- seems it isn't liking quite a few people. :~(
- Dee
Twitter is still down for me. I can't even log in to try and contact someone.
- Dee
Twitter has not released any information in regards to their site being down. I'm going to attempt to contact a few employees to see what I can find out. I'll keep everyone posted. ✽ It also looks like Twitter has been down for some users for 4+ hours (via research)
- H0llywoodWh0re
Twitter is down for me as well. I'm just outside of Toronto.
- B2B Specialist
I'm also golden horseshoe and twitter is down for me. The official status blog does not report anything wrong as of 11:05am EST
- Canageek
They've updated their status site with the following:"We are currently investigating a problem whereby some Twitter clients in widely scattered network locations are unable to connect to twitter.com." They could learn something from Saleforce.com who post their uptime stats.
- B2B Specialist
Thanks B2B Specialist -- I'm relieved to know I'm not going crazy.

Easily trumps the comparable apple KB page by explaining what to do when the default instructions don't work. Got my new iBoob up and running \nn/

Version 3.1.1 of the firmware broke a highly-important feature, as indicated in several different support threads. In short, when an application is opened, you can no longer double-tap the home button to pull up the iPod controls.
- Joshua Schnell
from Bookmarklet
Jeremy, are you running an app with music? I mean apps with its own music effects - not your music player. Trust me - it's broken.
- Tamar Weinberg
broke, broke, broke. I keep retrying it hoping that i'm just a little slow, but it stays broke every time.
- Joshua Schnell
LOVE this post. I won't say why I haven't upgraded yet, but I haven't, and I'm glad.
- Brad McCrorey
Not working for me in Safari. EDIT: Im an idiot and was trying it without music playing in iPod. With music on it works for me still.
- Robert DeBord
from iPhone
iPod Touch (2nd gen) w/3.1.1 seems to work perfectly fine for me. Maybe the problem only occurs with 1st-gen iPod Touches?
- Glen Mistletoe
Glen, it doesn't work on my iPhone 3g. It seems to pop up sporadically when music is already playing, but if you're going from no music to trying to get that media player, I get taken out of the application and into the iPod application.
- Joshua Schnell
iTunes tells me that 3.1 is the latest version for the iphone
- Glen Mistletoe
Glen, I have a 1G and a 2G. Are you running an app that is actually playing music? What apps are you trying?
- Tamar Weinberg
The screenshot associated with this post is actually one I created where it doesn't happen (Dactyl has no sound effects). But try it with a PlayFirst game or any game that actually prioritizes sound effects and music soundtracks, and you'll see that I'm not making this up.
- Tamar Weinberg
Jeremy/Glen - do you guys see what I'm talking about or do I need to be clearer in the post?
- Tamar Weinberg
Glen, open up Flight Control. When it says "Would you like Game Sounds?" click YES. Then double tap on the home button and tell me if you see your controls. You won't. Exit out of the app and reopen it. Now click NO for the same question. Then double tap on the home button. You WILL see your controls. That's the problem. When app sounds take over, you have no way of accessing your iPod controls. Does that clarify?
- Tamar Weinberg
I started music in the iPod. I started FlightControl. I selected "YES" on Play Game Sounds? I double-clicked the HOME button, and I see my "Music" controls—Prev, pause, Next , volume, Close, and Music. I don't mean to be obstinate, but they're there when I expect them. Under Settings, General, Home, I have "Home" selected for double-click, and "iPod Controls" set to ON ("when playing music, show iPod controls").
- Glen Mistletoe
Yes, so do I, but it seems that Josh and I don't encounter what you say exists. Are you SURE you're actually running your phone with 3.1.1? I just find it strange that 2 of us can replicate this issue on three (I have an iPod touch 1st and 2nd gen) devices.
- Tamar Weinberg
Shrug. I'm not sure why so many people are impacted by this but you're not. I just don't get it. There are at least 3 threads with at least 30 people impacted by it in Apple's forums and it's as if you're the only one who isn't affected. Don't know what else to say. I'm in disbelief.
- Tamar Weinberg
Okay - since Glen showed me a video, I thought I'd clarify further given that I have more information. Maybe Flight Control isn't a good example then. You need to run an application which actually *turns off your songs* first. If you try it on an app like that (with no changed settings - I've never run Flight Control prior to testing this for Glen), you'll see that the controls are not there.
- Tamar Weinberg
you can use a laptop running linux , not only a Mac-i do both
- Glenn Collins
Anyone tried this? I tried over wifi with various settings but it's quite choppy. I wonder if an ethernet cable would solve the bottleneck? Or is it more about the vnc protocol?
- Onur Babacan
Synergy isn't the same thing at all though.
- Onur Babacan
Definitely do this over ethernet. It works *much* better.

Last nights dinner. I didn't actually like it that much, but the kids went NUTS. I substituted mushrooms instead of bell peppers, and added some fresh tomato slices and bulgarian fetta on top as well as the cheddar.
- Brad McCrorey
What do you expect? The kid was named Uhh Tee Yaah!
- beersage
I know this kid's an idiot (and that should anger me), but I can't help but laugh out loud at his persistent determination to type like a dumb-dumb.

We used to blame this on mobile phones, now we're blaming it on Twitter? What's next.. The educators? Oh, wait..

This is my first mac; almost two years old now. But when I get a new one next year, the essential ones will be: Quicksilver, Adium, Skitch, Aperture, iWork, Things, Evernote, Photoshop. Prolly Twitterific too, if it is still as good then.

What I run on a regular basis: Launchbar, Adium, Aperture, Evernote, Yojimbo, BBEdit, TweetDeck, Firefox, Photoshop.

Every week when I get a new Mac (I wish) it's Adium, Quicksilver, Growl, Fluidapp and Mailplane first.

- Jason Miller
This thread is great for the sole reason that I've asked myself, "ooh, whats that?" about a dozen times already. Ooh, and I'll toss in AppFresh as the first thing I put on.

Arvin: yes I believe so... from gdgt.com "11:26AM - TomTom car-kit accessory: windshield mount (in portrait or laptop), dock + power, louspeaker, GPS enhancer, handsfree calling, and audio output. Looks nice!"
- Frankie Warren
Bit of a hoax.. Your provider has to allow this. Still, pretty cool. Is Australia the only country where unlocked 3G's are being sold by apple?
- Brad McCrorey
Australian carriers just unlock it when you ask them and request you restore your phone to take advantage of the unlock.
- Andrew Trinh
Yeah, or you can just buy an unlocked iPhone from Apple AU

After 500 years, the patter of tiny paws: Beavers start to breed again after being hunted to extinction in Britain - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news...
"Taking a swimming lesson in the tranquil water of the lake and then pulling themselves up to snack on tasty willow shoots, these shy creatures do not realise they are making history. But these exclusive photographs are the proof that beavers are breeding again in Britain for the first time in 500 years. The babies - known as kits or yearlings - are part of a programme to reintroduce the animals into the wild after they were hunted to extinction in England by the 12th century and Scotland by the 16th for their pelts and meat."

A breeding pair of beavers showed up in Martinez, CA and they've been quite the celebrities because beavers are NOT common 'round these parts, either.

I confess, I didn't really read this before like-ing. I just saw the words "beavers" and "breed". /shrug

figured it would be easy way to update and promote re: our podcasts (whenever we get around to recording
- Lehnanne G. Kidd
Agreed entirely. Twitter + Facebook is a great way to go. What sort of podcasts are you planning??
- Brad McCrorey
something to honor Nikola Tesla, something about RVing, something for the wolves, and probably one with me just bitching about fibro and life as a gimp.
- Lehnanne G. Kidd
I actually think thigh meat is tastier, too. I always cook with it when I make a chicken dish. Oh well.. Different strokes, etc.
- Brad McCrorey
Chicken thigh fillets are heaps cheaper than breast fillets too, and I'm a cheapskate :oD
- Mellissa Claus
I think it's the specific quality of the thigh meat they chose rather than the fact that it's thigh meat. I mean, how do you make chicken burrito for 89 cents without cutting major corners? :)

Something I would appreciate anybody's thoughts on. The context: because I left a comment to a post, I receive every now and then other peoples' comments; such was the case this morning with 2 new ones. Here's the question: how would you feel about sharing your mifi (or wifi) connection with a stranger if he asked you to? link to post:...
I'd feel like.. Keep this off-topic crap out of my room. Just sayin'..
- Brad McCrorey
I sense a big fan of serendipity here... and marginally polite at that. 'Our' room would be more appropriate don't you tink? Good day sir.

"Quake Live is essentially a reworked version of Quake 3 Arena, designed for free play in a Web browser using a plug-in. Users create an account and play against each other. The game features more than 40 arenas and five game modes. You can play against other gamers or practice and compete on your own against “bots,” or computer-controlled players. The game first went online as a public beta version earlier this year, but only for Windows users. Id Software’s Marty Stratton noted that Quake Live for Mac was a top priority when he posted about the status of the game’s developments to Id Software’s forums this past May."

Hey guys, I just got my beta invite to Philtro.com. It's a Twitter client were you rate tweets and eventually it only shows tweets that you want to see. The first 5 people to click this link gets an immediate invite http://www.philtro.com/openinv... (sorry if this sounds a little spammy)
I didnt really want to add everyone i know on friendfeed to my facebook, i like to keep them seperate as much as i can. but you know what, fuck it http://www.facebook.com/simon... add a note saying you;re from friendfeed if you add me, then i can group everyone up :)
- Simon Wicks
Thanks, Simon. I've not started going through these yet. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I'm only going to add the people i actually talk to on here. I have a lot less people on my follow list than you, so its a bit easier for me :)
- Simon Wicks
Remember, guys. According to FB, you're only allowed 5000 friends. Spend them wisely.
- James Myatt
As if we weren't before? Were they really that many people here who didn't also have a FB account, even if they didn't list it in their profile? I've been with FB since 2004
- LANjackal
Well, with this news it is pushing me to start using my real name for web services and to kill (or at least slowly stop using) the tomit persona that I have used for many years. Find me here... http://www.facebook.com/ronaldb...

FF better figure out how not to destroy themselves (if possible) with this merger. Friendfeed in the FB interface will not work. I think FF really just f*cked themselves.
- Ethan
I'm on Facebook, but I don't have a name in my profile URL (yet; I'm still new...). But if you want it, it's http://www.facebook.com/profile... -- if you friend me, tell me you're from FF.

I don't freaking have one because I never wanted to sign up for Facebook. :P Now I find out that through no fault of my own I'm technically a Facebook user? GAH.
- Cheryl Jones
http://facebook.com/alex.covic - I will friend everybody - for those of you concerned with friend/family + privacy = you can create lists (just like ff-groups) to keep FF-users in a different corner;-).
- Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
I do not use it much LOL I just post to it from other sites so to fill up my friends stream, I do get messages and some status in text. Anyone who really wants to add me, use the facebook link on my profile. :o)
- David Gross
www.facebook.com/drodzand you won't see much since I got the privacy settings on max in Facebook. Just another reason why I think Facebook is completely different from friendfeed. I hope they keep friendfeed running because I use both services in diametrically diverse ways.
