Fanboi. Why don't post about Linux.,huh? :P - Anika Malone
Anika, maybe i should... - Joshua Schnell
Just because you run a Mac site doesn't mean you have to be a total fanboy. Instead of actually writing something well thought out and interesting, it just ends up being a handjob for Steve Jobs. - Mattie Kenny
trish, i'll help you with word. but be warned... i won't talk to nicely about it. - Joshua Schnell
Mattie Kenny, that was hilarious and so true. - James Mowery via twhirl
mattie... it makes complete sense. a corporation addressing the threat of a much smaller competitor only gives the smaller competitor clout. it's a terrible marketing move. - Joshua Schnell
mattie... explain to me how these kiosks will increase market share, or was even a smart marketing move? - Joshua Schnell
Yea, a smaller company that's making billions and taking market share from your company as well as tarnishing your company's image with half-truths? Yea, it's TOTALLY terrible marketing to attempt to reclaim your company's image and try new and experimental styles of marketing that haven't been completely proven as effective for ANY company, let alone your own. That doesn't show a willingness to change, grow or evolve your company. It's just bad marketing. - Mattie Kenny
Not everyone who walks around a mall or past an Apple store is a) going to enter it and b) owns a Mac. These kiosks are being installed in MALLS outside of Apple stores. It's a great marketing move because it makes people remember an alternative and chuckle because of the placement. If Microsoft had stores and Apple put a kiosk out in front of them, you'd totally be supporting it and talking about how clever Apple was being. But since it's the other way around it's stupid. There's no integrity there. - Mattie Kenny
you don't change, grow , or evolve your company by shedding light on a competitor that's behind you in the standings. What you end up doing is legitimate their claims as being a "real" competitor. it reeks of desperation. - Joshua Schnell
I just obligatory 'like'd this because you IMd me. Only for you, Josh. HA - Mona N.
Microsoft has been ignoring Apple for the past decade. Apple has been gaining market share. It's not desperation. It's aggressive marketing that isn't offensive toward the other company. It's playful but respectful. Microsoft has yet to say anything negative about Apple in their ad campaign. They haven't even MENTIONED Apple. It's about their product. Recognizing that another company is competition isn't desperate, it's realistic. Apple has been throwing volley after volley at Microsoft, while Microsoft - Mattie Kenny
pretended as though the company didn't exist. This has been happening for YEARS now. Microsoft is finally realizing that you can't just let a company that although has a lesser market share has very high visibility to just continue to pound you in marketing without doing anything. Microsoft is attempting to reclaim their brand. - Mattie Kenny
It'd work for apple because they aren't #1.... that's why it would have been smarter for them. It's got nothing to do with integrity. It has to do with smart business moves. - Joshua Schnell
I said being a fanboy lacks integrity, not Apple or Microsoft. You cease to be a reliable and knowledgeable resource but rather a one-sided broadcaster. There's no critical eye to fanaticism. Everything is fine. Nothing is broken. There needs to be a certain amount of decorum and journalistic integrity if you want to be a destination for any sort of news. If I went to an Obama site, I'd expect ACCURATE portrayal of McCain. Same if I went to a McCain site. In fact, that very complaint has been made against - Mattie Kenny
McCain's portrayal of Obama in the public. It lacks integrity. - Mattie Kenny
I can post a whole bunch more articles where i ripped on apple if you'd like. - Joshua Schnell
I was referring to that article which isn't written with a critical eye and reflects poorly on your website. It's written squarely from the point of view of a "fanboy". It makes the website lose it's "expert" edge. The tone of the writing is obnoxious and baiting. Doesn't accurately portray the facts of the situation correctly. As though these kiosks would only be marketed to Apple fans. They're in freaking malls. All kinds congregate at malls. - Mattie Kenny
LOL!!! - Mona N.
Actually, I like that site because it's NOT a fanboy site, it's just a casual site written by Mac users, but I certainly never expect to get any info about Windows apps there. - Trish R
Dude, Mattie. In my first article on Macgasm I cast myself as being from the "deep red-pry-my-mac-from-my-cold-dead-hands end of the mac freak spectrum". It was -- mostly -- humorous and taken as such by most. Deep breath. Seriously. Chant your soothing zen phrase "omni-pad-me-jobs-Ohmmmmm" - Brad McCrorey
True, Brad. Some of the best writers are able to poke fun at themselves while still making a point. No one should ever take themselves that seriously. - Trish R
I won't argue you associating me with "some of the best writers", Trish ;) - Brad McCrorey

The camel spider stories began to spread during the 1990-91 Gulf War. Now, with the continued presence of U.S. forces in the Middle East, the stories are becoming legendary .. Many of the stories on the internet are completely untrue. These creatures are (usually) not dangerous to humans. But, dangerous or not, these creatures are horrifying to encounter. I pity anyone who encounters one for the first time. They actually aren't spiders at all, they're solpugids.. Along with spiders, they are members of the class Arachnida. - Cee Bee

I love FriendFeed. It is where I spend a very large amount of my Internet time. They are well positioned to really become important next year in the real time web. Find me there at http://www.friendfeed.com/scob... - Robert Scoble
Be siure to review the settings before implementing. If you choose the default settings, then everything from every one of your services (except, of course, Twitter) will be posted to Twitter. Depending upon your usage patterns, this could result in a very noisy Twitter feed. (In fact, I've chosen NOT to implement this on one of my infrequently used Twitter accounts; if I did, that Twitter feed would be dominated by impersonal link messages, which is a turn-off for some people.) - Ontario Emperor
Yeah, I'd really recommend trimming the options, unless you want to have lots of people unfollow you from Twitter quite quickly :) - Ian Betteridge
I saw a suggestion from Josh Bancroft that the defaults be changed so that only "FriendFeed" is checked. Good idea, although for some people even THAT would overwhelm the Twitter feed. But at least it causes people to think. - Ontario Emperor
I'm very curious to see how this FriendFeed to Twitter to Facebook to my new blog, etc. will work ... - Steve Knight
If people want to follow your all around net activity, send em your FF. If you want to annoy people who use Twitter as a communication app, post your FF updates to Twitter. - Mark Frost via twhirl
I'm thinking that sending my FriendFeed stuff to Twitter without the context might could be a bad thing. - Kevin
twitter tweaking is in order folks!! :) I love it, but had to turn off the FF comments posting to twitter - Susan Beebe
+1 Susan I am thisclose to turning off my Twitter feed into FF, don't want to raise the noise level here nor would I elect to feed Twitter from here for the same reason - Dave Martin
infinite loop possibilities are infinite. - thomasrdotorg via twhirl
Robert - You can't possibly be thinking about turning all the FF to Twitter services on. Twitter would have to add bandwidth??!! - Charlie Anzman
Go on! Do it Robert - please! At least just for a week...aww man, i would just laugh solidly for a week. Make sure you keep comments on too...! - Zee from WeDoCreative
sounds look a cool feature. but it could be dangerous. - Lynne d Johnson
I turned it on, but only for new FF items. So, not too much spam will happen on my account. :-) - Robert Scoble
Wondering how that will look. - Christian Burns
It's a neat idea. As always Scoble is testing the waters and we're all better for it. - Will Higgins
cool so is this the first step of friendfeed becoming something like ping.fm or will they stop at Twitter? The cool thing now is that you can post both from twitter or friendfeed and your post will be (almost instantly) on both networks. - Davide D'Incau
wait a minute. If you enable this feature then it will disable importing your tweets from twitter to FF. I understand that is probably so to avoid loops, but that is not a good enough workaround for the problem for me. - Davide D'Incau
I turned off my Twitter feed to FF some time ago, to stop the dupes. Many people that WANT to see what I'm up to, follow me on Twitter anyway. I try to make a conscious effort to cut down the noise. - Ian May
Publishing to Twitter via FriendFeed means never having to leave FF! - Peter Simard
!!! like that: "the real time web - jfayel
!!! this feature surgedd to me only this week... put I would like it on "at request only" - jfayel
I use Twitter and FF for different (but sometimes overlapping) things. I'll post interesting links both here and twitter, but also ,when I'm out I use Twitter via SMS on my cellphone, and I can't do that with FF. - Ian May

This question relates to my remix question here: http://friendfeed.com/e/10cf24... - Kol Tregaskes
Devo's version of Satisfaction. I was never a big Stones fan, anyway. Also, as much as I adored the Beatles as kid, I have a soft spot for Rufus Wainwright's cover of Across the Universe. - Helen Sventitsky
Oops, I think a lot of people extended the remix metaphor to include covers. - Logical Extremes
Easy. Joe Cocker - With a Little Help from My Friends. - Akiva Moskovitz
Nirvana's cover of The Man Who Sold the World is amazing. - Derrick
"You really got" me by Van Halen - Michael Fidler
Gary Jules' version of Mad World (Tears for Fears) from the Donnie Darko soundtrack and Staind's acoustic cover of Nothing Else Matters (from a Metallica tribute show) comes to mind... - Vincent X
Gonna get killed for this. But Killswitch Engage's cover of Holy Diver by Dio... - Mo Kargas
Logical, yes I've just read through it, ah well, any additions here are more than welcome. :-) - Kol Tregaskes
Vincent, that has to be one of my top choices, so much better than the original. - Kol Tregaskes
Concrete Blonde's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Everybody Knows" is awesome, as is Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". Two of my favorite covers. - Brad McCrorey
Rammstein's cover of Depeche Mode's "Stripped" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... - Robert Haas

Sweet Child of Mine by Sheryl Crow - Lindsey

here's a link to a good CBC program that ran this summer that played nothing but covers: http://www.cbc.ca/radiosummer/... - Trent Olson

after research, some obvious ones for you: Sinead O'Connor, Nothing Compares 2 U; Killing me Softly, The Fugees; Istanbul Not Constantinople, They Might be Giants. plus Superman, REM. - Trent Olson
i'll also go with Depeche Mode's Route 66, and the Pet Shop Boys' Always on My Mind. - Trent Olson
Hendrix: All Along the Watchtower - Robert Owens
Your Mama Don't Dance is fun by both Loggins & Messina and by Poison. :) - Ladybug Heather
U2's version of Everlasting Love. - Trent Olson
Trent, yeah there are quite a few that you don't realise are covers! - Kol Tregaskes
@Chris, good call on Johnny's Hurt - Trent Olson
wow, missed my favourite of all time: Islands in the Stream, covered by Feist & the Constantines: http://www.arts-crafts.ca/cons... (my wife & i walked down the aisle to this, so it must be included) - Trent Olson
Although I love Tears for Fears, I prefer the Gary Jules version of Mad World - Anna Haro
The Camper van Beethoven version of "Pictures of Matchstick Men" - Jeremy Brooks
Anna, I think that's a universal opinion, great cover. - Kol Tregaskes
Also David Bowie's version of the Pixies "Cactus". I wouldn't say it's better than the original, but it definitely rocks! - Jeremy Brooks
Strangely, Bare Naked Ladies cover of Bruce Cockburn's 'Lover in a Dangerous Time'. I don't really like either artist but this one's great. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... - Andrew Smith
i agree with you 100% Andrew - Trent Olson

If your HP has an Intel Processor in it you may be able to turn it into a Hackbook. But, other then that unless the apps your asking about have windows versions your SOL. - Mathew Ballard
No really. Unless you can install OS X on your HP, but you'd be breaking the EULA if you did. http://www.osx86project.org/ has more info. - Paul Grav

Me and Paul were talking about the same thing. I just didn't give a link. :P - Mathew Ballard
I once ran OS X on an AMD, so it is possible. For me, it wasn't really worth all the trouble. You have to find the DVD image that contains the necessary patches, then you have to wait while you download it. Then you'll find that some images work and some don't. Once you've installed OS X, you'll likely find a device that doesn't work, it might be the sound card or the ethernet connection or something else. - Paul Grav
the last time I tried running a HackBook (on a sony VAIO) the video was sideways, but otherwise everything ran fine (external display worked properly, even). It's fun! I highly recommend it! - Brad McCrorey
