Yeah. LOL. I just made it official, like in the Thriller video...except that I didn't turn into a werewolf and chase her through the woods....
- Rahsheen?
Not fair that the lady gets to wear a fancy ring before we even do the church thing. What's the point of being engaged if you can't flaunt it? LOL. Thanks everyone :)
- Rahsheen?
Congratulations, Rahsheen! I had a similar thought for Harold when he gave me my ring: "Gee, kind of unfair the guy doesn't get to wear something too until the wedding."

But of course! 2G Jailbroken and a 3G Jailbroken/unlocked for T-Mobile US

Had it jailbroken, haven't since I've replaced it twice.
- Mike Nayyar
yes and i haven't had a problem at all. in fact, i think the reception improved slightly
- Cee Bee
I've thought about it but have never done it. I don't like the idea of having to completely rebuild my phone experience every time a new iPhoneOS version comes out.
- Akiva
Nay. I don't have the time to deal with jailbreaking and patching.
- Bill Sodeman
Yes sir, jailbroken is the only way to go. Backgrounder and Qik are worth it alone.
- Nathan Chase
@Akiva - you don't - there's an app called AptBackup that will backup all the apps you download, themes, etc. and whenever you upgrade to the new firmware, you redownload AptBackup, hit Restore, and all your apps are redownloaded, and all your apps and settings are restored. It's fantastic.
- Nathan Chase
Woah, I hadn't heard of that. A may have to do this now. Damn you, Nathan Chase!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Akiva
@Akiva - haha... now don't get Steven Perez angry by usurping his catch phrase
- Nathan Chase
I want to, because I want video. But I keep hoping Apple will let a video app in the app store soon. Maybe I'll wait until my warranty is out anyway and then jailbreak.
- Jandy
I have for using Qik, Clippy and Chinese Input method (not handwriting input). Now xGPS as well.
- Raman Ng
Aye, using JB 2G with 2.1 firmware since Feb 08.
- Ekin Arabacıoğlu
Nay... I'm too chicken. I would be the one guy who bricks it.
- David Connell
just got it done yesterday at mass jailbreak session at 360 iDev conference. Nothing like having Chris Hughes break my phone.. Heard that Saurik has compiled his iphone app on the iphone! I totally want VNC server to demo the phone on the mac.
- Dave Orchard
And now I also jailbroke my 3G so I could do Qik videos on it.
- Carlos Granier-Phelps
does anyone know an app to edit videos?

Jailbroken = currently yes. Thought I would leave the 3GS stock, but couldn't resist at least dabbling.
- Patrick Jordan
For discussion on jailbreaking, Ive opened The Jailbreak Room.

About to finally jailbreak an OS3.0 3G (not the 3GS), but I've been jailbreakin' since it was uphc'ing... ;-p oh and to add... I don't really feel the need with the 3GS now that I have native video, although I do miss sbSettings and those quick toggles and with no VoiceCentral/gVoice it could be a possibility...

When did you place your 3G S order? I put mine in to Apple on June 10th, and it's not showing as shipped yet; trying to judge how fast they're processing...

Mine was scheduled to arrive on Wednesday. Checked again this morning and it changed to Thursday.. Let's see if it changes again to Friday.

Lucky you, we can't preorder in Canada :(

- Nate T
I'm scheduled for delivery on the 18th... order placed June 8th. God... sounds like a baby... Cheers
- Ross W. Prout
Ordered mine on the 8th and no shipping notice yet. :-\ As for iPhone vs Pre, it'll take awhile to fully see how the apps change the Pre since that's the iPhone's key right now for me.

When can we stop calling these phones?
- David J Lowe
I'm taking a chance and heading to the Birmingham Apple Store Friday morning to get mine. Hope they have enough.

Gonna pick up my pre-ordered one at the "T-Punkt" T-Mobile store here in Germany on Friday. Picked the same You did, unless You chose the white one, that is. I'm really not understanding the i-phone thing. Frankly, I think the phone sucks. I hate the keyboard touch, I can't imagine a woman in this country with a decent manicure wanting to deal with that crappy screen! I have service at home with Verizon in the countryside where we live, my husband's crappy I-Phone drops out about ten miles from the house and not only that, the piece of crap is constantly dropping phone calls. Is the bay area better?
- Jennifer Ragde
I love toys as well, I'm just not getting the I-phone thing, I have a DS, PSP, I'm a seriously geek game girl, just not getting that horrible phone. I can't be the only girl that thinks that touch screen is completely awful! The touch screen is so sensitive, if you have fingernails, good luck!

funny story. i learned to program using a TI-99/4a. but there were no books out for it. so i bought one on programming the Timex Sinclair. i didn't realize that each company had their own 'flavor' of the BASIC language. i was baffled for the first few hours, then caught on (this was before google, too!). by the time i was through the book i'd gained a kind of 'meta' model of programming languages and i was hooked. still hooked, too.

Sounds familiar, Richard. I grew up playing with tape read/write rings and drawing on computer paper. Likewise! I absolutely LOVE Jungle Disk and I've been using it since sometime last year. I have a total of ~50GB backed up and only update/backup 1-3GBs a month (if even that) and the money I'm paying each month is negligible.
- Philip
Don't try backing up your photos, music and home videos though. If you really lead a digital lifestyle, you'll have thousands of photos, lots of music and lots of GB of home videos (hey, my Kodak Zi6 fills up 1-16GB every time I plug it to sync with the computer). Hard drive space is dirt cheap (1 TB for less than $100) but try backing up to Jungle Disk, you'll go broke. If it's worth having, it's worth backing up no? Until I can backup a TB or more online and afford it, this is of no use...
- Odi Kosmatos
For the record, in 2008, I had successfully backed up my most important 650GB to Keepvault.com (it took months to upload) and the price was $100 per year. But at the end of the year they said "Sorry, our unlimited data backup plan is being eliminated.". It was too good to be true...
- Odi Kosmatos
Yikes, using the calculator tool above, it seems storing 1 TB is $3000 a month. I could buy one 1 TB drive a day for that price and bring one off-site to my workplace every morning, indefinitely, for the same price.
- Odi Kosmatos
It's not about storing terabytes of data, it's about storing essentials away somewhere else. Think safety deposit box and not self-storage sheds.
- Erik Garcia
Me personally, I don't have that much digital media to store, but I do have mountains of source code I'd rather not lose which I back up with a couple free online storage solutions on a regular basis. If you're a digital photographer or a podcaster or movie maker, part of _your_ job/business involves being responsible for maintaining archives of whatever 'knowledge work' you generate.
- Erik Garcia
I have about 70GB up on Amazon too, but I'm about to reduce it down to my 4 + 5 star images only.
- Ryan
@ Odi: 30-35GB of the 50GB that are backed up on Jungle Disk are pictures & music. My music collection doesn't grow that quickly and neither does my photo gallery so what you're saying isn't the case for everyone. The most I've paid with a ton of uploading is maybe $8 but usually my monthly bill is $1-2/month.
- Philip

@pitlord: Please explain what you meant by 'basketball county' in another comment referring to Obama's community organizing work.
- AJ Kohn
@AJ Kohn "basketball county?" You mean basketball courts?
- pitlord
from twhirl
Pitlord has an interesting political agenda: "Thank G-d there are enough brave, righteous souls on digg to combat the freak party you scum have been throwing around here with your blatant lies and propaganda against Israel. I can't deny that I will be pleased when I see your kind of evil grovel in agony when you finally realize the horror you will suffer at the coming of the Moshiach." McCain and Palin are on the side of "Moshiach," one presumes; Obama and Biden are the enemies of "Moshiach."
- Sean McBride
'hockey mom' isn't code. she's a freakin' hockey mom.
- Anika
Yes you would presume that because you are ignorant. Why don't you put my comment in context with the post I was responding to?
- pitlord
from twhirl
Who is "Moshiach"? What's the religious ideology here -- Chabad-Lubavitch? Some other group? Apparently you believe that Moshiach is going to destroy all your enemies? Is Moshiach on the side of McCain and Palin vs. Obama and Biden? I'm just trying to understand your views. Enlighten me.
- Sean McBride
If you cannot even answer me with the proper context for my comment why should I bother discussing Moshiach with you? Suffice it to say Moshiach is on G-d's side and G-d love all mankind, including Obama and Biden. Those who suffer are those who turn away from G-d by their own free will. But if you are sincerely interested in Moshiach, Google will tell you more than I will.
- pitlord
from twhirl
Pitlord -- to which religious group do you belong? Chabad-Lubavitch? I got the impression from reading your posts that you believe that Moshiach intends to punish, torture and murder quite a few human beings. Didn't you assert that Christianity and Islam are false religions?
- Sean McBride
For instance: "Hahaaaa! I can't wait until G-d sends his Meshiach and all of you haters are going to have to eat your words when you realize the Jews have been keeping the answer all along."
- Sean McBride
@Sean McBride actually my religious status is a bit more complicated than that. Christianity worships a false idol, namely Jesus. Thank G-d more and more Christians are turning away from Jesus and back to G-d through the Noahide movement.
- pitlord
from twhirl
@Sean McBride so what is your problem are some kind of stalker or do you just have a hard-on for Jews?
- pitlord
from twhirl
I thought Moshiach ran for office a couple of thousand years ago on a platform of forgiving your enemies and loving your neighbor as yourself. Can't remember anything about Iraq or offshore drilling specifically.
- Karim
Pitlord -- ok. I am just trying to understand your views. You don't belong to a specific denomination? Will Moshiach punish and crush Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, atheists, etc.? What's the scenario here? What percentage of the Israel lobby shares your views?
- Sean McBride
Pitlord - you injected your religious views into your public political posts -- much like Sarah Palin and George W. Bush, I might add. I am trying to understand those beliefs.
- Sean McBride
Karim that is one of the biggest misconceptions of the last two millenia o.o

- AJ Kohn
I missed her speech, but I'm inclined to agree with Olbermann. But it's also ironic for Olbermann to call anyone condescending...
- Chris Stevenson
More Moshiach: http://tinyurl.com/2tms4 "He will be a charismatic leader, inspiring others to follow his example. He will be a great military leader, who will win battles for Israel.... In the Olam Ha-Ba, the whole world will recognize the Jewish G-d as the only true G-d, and the Jewish religion as the only true religion (Isaiah 2:3; 11:10; Micah 4:2-3; Zechariah 14:9). Pitlord?
- Sean McBride
Pitlord: If I understand "Moshiach" correctly, he is the Jewish Messiah, he will be a world-dominating military leader, he will be the head of a world government centered in Jerusalem, Israel, and he will eradicate all religions except Judaism, including Christianity, which is founded on the myths of a false messiah. Are these points in order?
- Sean McBride
Jay Tannenbaum: will Moshiach smite Keith Olbermann? Probably Pitlord thinks so.

OK, if no one on this thread believes in God, let me ask you, who do you credit for your very existence and the existence of everything around you? When you see a tree, do you think that it just came from it's tree parent and that's it? Who designed the tree in the first place? I think science and a belief in God go together just fine. My opinion. Oh, and it would be awesome if we could keep the discussion civil for everyone's benefit, of course. :)
- Josh Haley
Let me ask you this: If you weren't here who would ask the question? Who was asking the question for the first 12 billion plus years? You start with a pre-defined end state and then wonder that it happened? Not very logical.
- Jason Carreira
??? not being a creationist doesn't make you an atheist. I happen to *be* an atheist, but there are some people who are religious and yet accept that evolution happened
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
This is so contrived on the part of the GOP - she's female, a kid going to iraq and a baby with downs. Way too stinky for me.
- Cheryl Allin
I am religious and I accept that evolution does and did happen, just not to the scale that many people think.
- Josh Haley
Josh: you can believe in God, heck you can be a Christian, and think Creationism is a hilariously awful worldview. Never mind scientific scrutiny, it doesn't hold up to theological or logical scrutiny.
- Mark Trapp
Most Christians I know have no problem with evolution. I was brought up Christian and creationism was taught as a bible story, not as literal fact.

- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
one thing is for sure. Sarah Palin is no Hillary. Clinton is science-friendly - http://bit.ly/EtT3y
- ~C4Chaos
@Kamillah - I understand if you don't wish to debate, but I will clarify: I do not believe that I am a descendant of what people would call apes. I believe that all animals and living things can mutate and evolve to adapt to their surroundings, sure. If you wear a pair of shoes that don't fit long enough, you develop callouses, for a very small example. Even as a Christian, who believes he is a child of God, I accept science enthusiastically.
- Josh Haley
Josh: you're in good company. Scientists don't believe humans descended from apes, either, but that there is a common genetic ancestor between all primates. I guess if you have a misinformed view of evolution, it'd be pretty easy to discount it.

Josh, I don't really get your view of evolution as it relates to God's divine plan either: are you implying that God let evolution play out randomly in everything but humans? That's not exactly a Christian worldview: I don't know what that is. God doesn't leave things to chance: Christians who hold evolution to be fact still hold that God shapes evolutionary paths.

I think we're straying from the key point here though and that is that integrating a religious theory into public education goes against the basic tenets of America's founding. If we're going to do it, we should be ready and willing to, for example, begin teaching Islamic Sharia law in civics class or numerology alongside fractions. Well that last one's a bit of a stretch, but you get my point.
- Carla Thompson
excellent point Carla, and it'd be a cold day in hell before most people in the US would be cool with Islamic teachings in schools, as much as some are clamoring for more "religion" (usually code for Christianity) in schools and society in general

If McCain is trying to bait voters just because Palin is a woman, the GOP is dumber than I thought. HRC supporters who consider McCain will HATE her. Her policies and beliefs are the opposite of their own.

Actually I'm hearing the opposite from friends who supported HRC going for McCain-Palin.

I describe myself on my Facebook profile as 50% atheist and 50% agnostic. That's a little bit tongue-in-cheek, but it's also 100% accurate. I received a moderately religious Jewish education as a child, and was taught that the Biblical creation story was a *metaphor.* I was taught this by religious people who understood how powerful metaphors are, how they are not lies or untruths but extremely useful tools for imparting understanding. Most of the Christians I know who are my age were taught the same thing.

And yet for the past quarter-century, the U.S. flew back to the past on evolution, going back to the pre-scientific view that it was God what done it. I don't know why that is, but I know that the people leading the backwards charge are slickers in thousand-dollar suits, and that it has always served the needs of powerful people to have hordes of followers who are kept ignorant and stupid.
