Item 1: MIX'10 Windows Phone and the three great mis-reported non-events IE 9 and the weird backlash - What's really going on with the Platform Preview Is there a vast right-wing conspiracy? And why no Windows Live Wave 4 news??
- Leo Laporte
Tried the IE9 Preview and was very impressed with the graphics acceleration. Good to see them getting it together with HTML5. Takes the browser to a new level of performance.
- Steve Wooding
Item 2: Microsoft talks a bit about Windows 7/Server 2008 R2 SP1 And verifies what we've already talked about: It's a big deal on the server, not a big deal on Windows 7.
- Leo Laporte
Item 4: Opera: Browser ballot is working (for them) Downloads double (to 17?) Meanwhile, smaller browser makers are now campaigner for even great exposure
- Leo Laporte
Windows 7 Feature of the Week: Aero Themes http://www.winsupersite.com/win7... The fun bit: You can now easily rotate between different desktops. The bad bits: It's still not particularly multi-monitor savvy, glass color changes don't affect Explorer toolbar chrome.
- Leo Laporte
Windows 7 Tip of the Week: Tablet PC-Style multi-select ... On any PC Enable it through Folder Options -> View tab, scroll down and near the bottom is a checkbox named "Use checkboxes to select items". This gives everything on the Desktop and in Windows explorer a little selection checkbox. Using those boxes to toggle selection is often easier than Ctrl-selecting each item, and it doesn't interfere with shift-select. Thanks to Rudy Raab for the tip!

Here’s Paul Thurrott in July 2007, regarding the iPhone: And what’s up with the lack of cut/copy and paste? This is a basic OS feature that Apple included in the first Mac OS almost 25 years ago. It’s inexplicably missing from the iPhone, unavailable in any application or the wider system itself. Unreal. And here’s Paul Thurrott two days ago, in a post titled “I Love Windows Phone”: The...

Which news? Did something bad happen, or did they finally have that election they kept postponing? EDIT - Oh. I wonder if they wish they'd just held it before, and not had the rule revoked? EDIT2 - Fnord, even in irony, that still seems like a lame thing to say.

Take heart Leo. This is all part of the show. In the Morning to you.
- lawrence kenski
Leo, do you really want either party to have an absolute majority int he senate? I don't.
- David Eckard
I felt really really let down by the results back in November. Obama and the left wing Democrats are way too arrogant and forgot that despite their victory in November, the vast majority of this country is made up of independents and moderate Democrats and Republicans. Too much behind door deals to get votes too.
- Jim Bednarz
It's hard for me to feel 'let down' by an America that is so completely predictable.
- Fleagle
Looks like those out-of-state Rep. contributions helped change MA politics.

We sat around the laptop with my nephews and daughter and watched him take off on NORAD

At last, some decent media to watch. Thanks to the time difference to the UK, Twit has taken over my evenings tv schedule and im looking forward to the day when i can get the twit network direct to my tv. No more Eastenders for me. :P
- Dansus
On the Blackberry, that Bing thing is not strictly true. I have Google.com set as my home page and I search from there. I'm not redirected to Bing.
- Jeff Harbert
Love the live feeds. Look forward to seeing video podcasts of your shows.
- Michael Kelly
My Blackberry won't do Friendsfeed. It sucks. I had to borrow this laptop because I cant watch twit.tv and I cant findany irc app for my BlackBerry Storm. I am just screwed with my BlackBerry when it comes to Twit.Tv. Dang it. I miss Twit.Tv when I am on the road.
- Willy Monroe
Yep, wish I'd never bought a BlackBerry - you're so limited in what you can do and access. The App World finally launched in NZ (free apps only) and it's very sparse. Ditching it as soon as I can, probably for an iPhone as we don't have any decent Android devices here yet. :(
- Andrew
this Google show is getting boring and repetitive

I regret buying my Blackberry too, but I don't have any Bing issues with it. It just plain stinks. I'm scheming to get it replaced with a droid!

specially the iphone's screen so fragile.. :(

Great format. Leo + Dvorak + hipster Blogger + Super smart guy = Win! (maybe get more people in studio. studio drinking is funny.)
- echostreamer
This is the first time they talk about Archos on twit, of course it's not as popular as it should be
- Charbax
I'm in total agreement with Lisa, i barely have enough money for an iphone, let alone buying every new shiny thing. We're normal, not the ones who buy every new shiny thing.
- Chris Heath
The iphone is $2500 for the 2 year contract, you must be rich if you have one of those
- Charbax
yeah...i agree with chris...as long as you have something that works for ya.. :)
- Nelson Mateo
hey, i'm not saying that i don't want to have all the coolest gear, but the reality is that i can't afford it. Same as most people.

the world is moving towards 1 gadget for everything not the other way around (E reader) my opinion
- echostreamer
spot on there Chris. trouble with proprietary stuff like ipods and kindles is that they are not upgradeable. when new ipod comes out only way to upgrade is to buy a new one!! can't afford that every 2 or 3 years i want something that will last i can get my money's worth out of

Google Safe Search is filtering, what's wrong with filtering stuff so children don't see crap
- Charbax
flitering should be done by the individual. I.e the parents, not by any state imposition
- Andy
it's ok as long as you can override the filtering if you so choose
- Andy
it's wrong for parents to offload parenting to the govt imho
- Chris Heath
Filtering adult websites is totally ok. Just let adults access everything if they want through a registry. People that go around the main DNS can easily get detected and parents can be contacted by email (that DNS circumvention or packet encryption is happening)
- Charbax
can someone tell me what good iphone app i can use to use FF and comment and stuff?
- Nelson Mateo
Charbax - yes, it's needed - but by the *parents* - not the government
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Government must provide free broadband Internet access to all. Monopolistic private enterprises are the ones blocking innovation and no I would not want to leave it to AT&T to do the DNS filtering
- Charbax
just watched it two hours ago....ITS AMAZING!! :)
- Nelson Mateo
i like this andrew guy... i like the cut of his jib
- Chris Heath
The parents need one tool to do the filtering, simply DNS filtering and instant email alerts if DNS is circumvented or Encryption is used on a Child-only ADSL/Cable connection
- Charbax
software filters are BS and you cannot require parents to understand how to setup private filtering on their Windows/Mac crap-PCs
- Charbax
best theater experience is the Mugar Omni Theater in boston at the science musem the IMAX dome screen is just crazy. you're so close to it and it wraps around you if you're able to sit in the middle http://www.mos.org/exhibit...

sky in the uk are supposed to be lsunching a 3d channel in the next year or so that you don't need glasses for. I heard something about it and can't find any info now. any links anybody?
- Andy
Having a hardware filter is fine Charbax but it should be opt-in.
- ralphsaunders
Nah, it should be standard and Adults should be able to opt-out
- Charbax
They provide barf bags with the 3D glasses. This whole 3D movie business is BS
- Charbax
Why? People should be able to view what they want.
- ralphsaunders
Yeah, adults can decide to unlock an ADSL/Cable/Fiber internet connection opt-in. Even parents could decide to opt-in to unlock it completely or to unlock it only through a password
- Charbax
Charbax. you're a star. I heard about this when channel 4 had a 3d week the other month and then lost the link. thanks for that!!
- Andy
It would be a mammoth task to impliment though charbax.
- ralphsaunders
mind you, i don't have a hd tv yet so I could hold out a bit longer if i thought it would be worth it
- Andy
Nah it's just an upgrade of the DNS servers. And the Government could enlist a few thousand volunteer adults who can help tagging un-tagged adult sites and stuff using a browser plugin
- Charbax
it could be that simple. I'd be ok if the Government simply ask Google to host the DNS server using Google Safe Search filters and unlocked through a parents-only password
- Charbax
they should just get set up with opendns
- Chris Heath
if you circumvent the main DNS, it is instantly detected so an email could be sent to the parents saying something like "your children might be circumventing DNS or using encryption "
- Charbax
Not sure how well that would scale...
- ralphsaunders
well something like this needs to be done. Seriously, kids just 10 years old even younger are faced with this and child psychologists say it's really not healthy
- Charbax
what's not healthy is parents not being involved in their children's lives and the raising of their children... that's what's not healthy (imho as usual)
- Chris Heath
Wait... you want to ban types of TV now?
- ralphsaunders
They could easily filter TV programs for adult-only stuff if all TV was IPTV
- Charbax
Neil Gaiman rules! (Leo mentioned Coraline) also the sandman
- echostreamer
But TV monopolies wouldn't want that to happen. Real IPTV everywhere would mean people would get Youtube, Twit and all those decentralized shows directly onto their tv
- Charbax
i don't think i'll go 3D for a long long time... if at all
- Chris Heath
Hes right. I just got rid of TV. I dont have a TV or Cable (or even an antenna.) Twit.tv + Hulu + online sports = all you need
- echostreamer
I want it the other way round. i want the freedom of the internet but in the comfort of my armchair on my big screen tv
- Andy
i don't want to be sitting at my computer all night
- Andy
What you need to do is bring an armchair into your office
- ralphsaunders
lol @ralph it's just not comfortable watching on a computer. if i had a way of getting full internet access on my tv i would do it
- Andy
"smoking kills" on side of every fag packet in uk. nobody notices them anymore
- Andy
Don't you think people who want to smoke know its bad for them anyway?
- ralphsaunders
true. my mum in law smokes like a chimney even though her husband had a triple heart by-pass caused 80% by smoking all his life. she knnows danger but "needs" to smoke (her words)
- Andy
squarespace, plez add a drag and drop flash player (so i can post vid), thank you

hey bill. i don't smoke but part of me wants to start just to cock a finger at all the nanny state warnings and political correctness around leading a healthy lifestyle. anyone else feel like that?

If you think about how much research Oprah's staff can do, why would she buy her puppies from a backyard breeder in Tehachapi, CA who was kicked out of the AKC years ago? However, she has since become an anti-puppy mill advocate. So, maybe she has evolved in that regard. My point is that she had all the researchers at her fingertips, yet she picked someone who had been thrown out of the AKC.

Droid is way cool. I had to take the first one back because it kept rebooting. When I signed on to the new one it restored my background and apps. Way cool. Love the Droid.

Leo, i sent a delicious bookmark for:twit today (i see that you don't have many stories in there yet) - it's a great article about google's turn-by-turn navigation in android. i know you touched on it a little during TWiG yesterday, but this would be a good one for twit too. There's also some great info about teleatlas and navteq in there as well. I didn't know that tomtom and nokia bought them up or that goodle was going without their maps now.
- Chris Heath
Did Leo reveal his new car yet? Sounds like he got one bad for the environment. I've very disappointed in him.
- deleted
I drive about 20 miles a week. How many do you drive?
- Leo Laporte
what was the car? I was thinking it might be a Tesla
- Mark
No it's a 17 mpg city car - not the best for the environment. I would never buy such a car if I commuted still, but I rarely go very far.
- Leo Laporte
I heard him say what brand it was by accident last week.
- Chris Heath
yeah 17mpg is shocking, but as you barely drive it doesn't really matter
- Mark
leo is the twit tv channel going to work on tivo? as well as roku?
- Jim Fuller
I am actually surprised they still make 17MPG cars though
- Mark
Jim, he's said that it would eventually... it is something that twit wants to do (not sure if they're currently working to get that done though)
- Chris Heath
I hope it's soon I would hate to have to buy a roku when I already have a tivo hd.
- Jim Fuller
Leo, the twit-stories room http://friendfeed.com/twit-st... seems to have /twit/twit delicious source, and three others for specific shows 216-218 ... seems like just the /twit tag would be good enough, right? that would be a pain to have to add each show's delicious feed source to the room each week
- Chris Heath
Anything like this at all for the PC.
- Mark Wolvin
It get's my highest praise, "Doesn't suck."

ok, im amazed. just correctly corrected 162 out of 170 tracks with "track xyz" as their title.

Addons like this, and programs like Coda, are the things pulling me toward buying an iMac. Just can't get myself to do it yet.

I don't get how you can get your iTunes library in such a state: http://polluxapp.com/Screens... Without using this app, my iTunes library has all the necessary metadata, and I didn't make any effort to have it like that.
- Paul Grav
Anything similar on windows, on iTunes or foobar or winamp or anything? I'd like to see a program that has a "search for year info on Wikipedia" option. Actually, why isn't there an app where I can manually correct track info on my iPhone while I'm listening and have the corrections sync back?
- Chuck Kahn
Paul, mainly by downloading music illegally from places like Kazaa (is that even around anymore?) and torrents.
- Akiva
from BuddyFeed
It may be a coincidence, but I sent this link to my husband and when he tried to download the application he had to force quit Safari and it triggered all kinds of virus messages! He said he was not willing to try to duplicate the problem!
- Ginger Campbell, MD
So, don't run this on compilation/greatest hits albums, unless you want the songs retagged to the original albums.
- Demian Johnston
@Chuck Kahn - A cross platform (albeit more complex) tagger is Jaikox - http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/ I've been using it on the Mac for about a year, much more complicated - and not free... but it works.
- Christopher Aloi
I liked it until it ended up misidentifying a great deal of songs, now I have to take the time to manually edit them back. Or just break out the CDs and rip them all over again. It can't tell the difference between tracks from a live album versus their studio recorded counterparts. It gets an E for effort.
- Bryan K Erickson
It also gets in this state if you were managing music well before iTunes came to PC.
- Eric - 100% Choice Cuts
from iPhone
When I used to do stuff in Windows, I used MP3Tag.
- Akiva
This app worked perfect for me. Well done!
- Mike Shulman
I downloaded it and it did not do anything.
- Kelly J
@Kelly J: You need to highlight some songs in iTunes and then click "Tag selected iTunes tracks".
- Antoniu
Very cool idea, but I have tried it on two albums and it got one song wrong both times. It also hasn't grabbed lyrics on any song I've tried so far, and that was main reason for trying it. All my stuff is tagged properly already. Any apps that just grab the lyrics?
- Justin Luey
...well, it is 'beta' software, or has that label lost all meaning these days?
- .LAG liked that
I think some of the data it uses is a bit suspect. One artist, two versions of the same song but different lengths, and they're classed as being from the same album. What's with the lyrics bit - where do they appear?
- Mike Caine
