adium has always been very stable for me
- Michael
Bugs? What bugs? It's never crashed on me either.
- Gilbert Harding
Hadn't noticed the update since I am using the 'beta' 1.4 which has not crashed since launching (a long time ago)
- Peter van Teeseling
I am also using 'beta' 1.4 and it hasn't crashed on me neither
- Ninja Monkey!!
I had to go back to a stable build because I was having Facebook chat trouble.
- Hunt
1.4b8 was crashing on me every few days, with the problem of Yahoo Messenger IMs coming through in duplicate, which was supposedly fixed. Upgraded to 1.4b9 today and so far so good.
- Siddharth Deb
Yahoo's #1- "106 million monthly unique visitors"
- Chuck Kahn
Kind of dumb for TechCrunch to put out a graph like this and leave off the major player.
- LogEx
actually if you show Yahoo on the graph, you won't be able to see the "crossing point" of gmail and AOL so clearly because they(gmail and AOL) would be squished down.
- vijay
still? as i know gmail is the best email ever, people go in for hotmail just like they keep using IE, and as for yahoo it is the messenger that is keeping them good, people don't try third party softwares, applications they just feel great that they a using a licensed OS and default is the best for them, it is just the mentality
- testbeta
I think most people use hotmail only because they don't know you can use WLM with a gmail address.
- April Russo (app103)
I haven't used Hotmail for a while now but went back to it just a few days ago. It's not bad, I like it.
- Michael
Yes, no computer access at work, limited data plan, but unlimited SMS.

Just to post when I can't get tweetie to load.
- tomit
from iPhone
I use sms to receive DMs and sometimes to post if edge is down.
- Ward Seward
I did when I didn't have a smart phone with a twitter app, and wanted to send out updates while out and about. also, mymilemarker uses twitter so you can update your gas mileage from the pump, so I used it for that.
- chrisofspades
Before I had the BB, I used it all the time to post updates. Now I use UberTwitter to post but I still have select folks' updates come to me via SMS. Just easier to keep track of friends that way.
- pea
As an interim to better Push Twitter apps, yes. Though why @replies don't get sent to me is a bloody mystery? >:-S
- CannonGod
I use it, yup. I get updates from my local newspaper sent via SMS and the occasional person who I find entertaining/interesting (@badbanana right now).
- Mitch
Rarely. If I'm in a spot where there's nothing else to do, yes
- LANjackal
No. I don't use Twitter on my phone because I'd get charged for everything. Plus a laptop keyboard wins over a phone keyboard.
- Spidra Webster
no, sms is the most expensive form of communication that can be purchased i pay $5 for 200 sms msgs a month and even the $20 per month unlimited plan is a ripoff... SMS should be inlcluded in your plans... #attfail
- Chris Heath
sort of. I use a free SMS API key from Zeep Mobile to send Tweets to my own web server via the Zeep Mobile shortcode. from there my Twitter OAuth credential is employed to post the tweet to Twitter, it also gets sent via OMB protocol to different servers such as army.twit.tv and identi.ca and it goes out from my site as RSS. three of these arrive at FriendFeed, which annoys everyone.
- Brian Hendrickson
No need with SimplyTweet's push notifications on the iPhone. Although on very rare occasions I use SMS to update via HelloTxt.
- Grey Drane
from BuddyFeed
No, not available in Belgium. I would have used it not to update, but to be instantly notified of @ and direct replies. Now the iPhone has push functionalities I have no longer a need for Twitter SMS in Belgium anymore.

Yes and it serves as insurance in the unlikely event that I’m ever arrested or otherwise in trouble in a strange place. SMS – to SMS can be slow and unreliable between some U.S. carriers (T-Mobile to Sprint, for example) whereas SMS-to-Twitter is more reliable. Last month I was on a trackless trolley, on my way to meet a friend. When the trolley broke down, I sent an SMS-to-Twitter and at the same time sent an SMS directly to my friend. He received the Twitter message first.
- A Mitchell
Cool! I suspect SMS may one day in the not-so-distant future become obsolete as everyone starts using smartphones and the statstream.

BEX, I love how your profile bit says "I can kick your ass!" :) Not only do I believe that 100%, but I also think it might be enjoyable for some reason.
- Josh Haley
I'm sure that I could get a little whimper out of you ;)
- BEX
Yep, I was right. I'll be in my bunk.

Pre-Order Snow Leopard at Amazon "Amazon has begun taking pre-orders for Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. It is currently priced at $29 for the upgrade. However, the upgrade is only for current Leopard users. There is also no official release date but is expected sometime in September." - http://www.livecrunch.com/2009...
Will the snow leopard installer check your system to see if you have leopard installed? Will it ask to verify via install disk?
- Steven (optionshiftk)
Historically, Apple never checks anything (except hardware capability) before an install.
- LogEx
There's very few details about this so I'm not too sure. The email from Amazon did mention that "Tiger & earlier OS users will need to purchase either versions of the upgraded Mac Box Set."
- Michael
Here's the 1st ever widget I made for OS X Dashboard using Dashcode. Would really appreciate if you could take it for a spin. Thanks :) - http://88michael.posterous.com/my-1st-...

Yeah, but it's Generation X's fault that we have to look at all those "Y"s... We(they?) started it. (I get a little confused. I'm 30, so which side of the fence am I really on?)
- Kamilah Gill
Kamilah, I'm in the same boat. 31, and every definition says I fall between the X and Y cracks. Which, in light of this post, kinda grosses me out.
- FFing Enigma (aka Tina)
LOLZ Tina. I guess it's the shadow effect of my parents being a little too young to be true Boomers. I'm a little too young to be Gen X
- Kamilah Gill
Just missing a strange looking tattoo and you're there Shey
- Charlie Anzman
According to that, I'm officially an Xer. Once again, I apologize on behalf of this entire generation for the saggy pants that refuse to go away. We though it was cute. Fun. Temporary.
- Kamilah Gill
I'm Generation Y. But my butt-crack is firmly concealed. Unless I'm at home...

Can an iPhone replace your laptop? "I think this raises a very interesting point. Has the iPhone become powerful enough to replace your laptop? So the tiny keyboard and smaller screen are drawbacks but it’s pretty amazing that you can do simple photo editing and create documents & spreadsheets, yea?" - http://niftylittleweb.com/2009...
It's possible for the iphone to replace a laptop but without flash, its dependent on the web sites you periuse & exactly what you do on a computer/laptop besides web surf.
- Marcus Dolengo
@RAPatton - Agreed. And yea, implement flash Apple!!!
- Michael
Yes, please implement Flash so that arts if the Internet aren't black
- RAPatton
from iPod
Yes it can. I have used my iPhone with 3.0 OS instead of my laptop many times this summer. I've even blogged many blog posts on it with pictures and all. Works great.
- Svartling
At least it kills the need for a netbook :) Always with me.
- Svartling
In the past I always took my laptop with me if I went out on business meetings. Now I leave without the laptop most of the time. Deciding which things to do 'on the road' and others that can wait until later in the day.
- Peter van Teeseling
I think that Apple may never allow Flash on the iPhone. Just as they have a rule against applications which run other applications (see the recent C64 emulator), they would lose control of the iPhone tools if Flash was allowed.

would be cool to be able to abuse Google's uber storage capacity to send huge files which get converted to a link for the recipient to download, like dropsend, etc. but built in

still waiting for googles dropbox....
- Chris Hofmann
@Ben @Chris: I'm not sure why Google, despite it's massive server capacity, hasn't offered those services. Maybe because it consumes too much bandwidth with little opportunity for sufficient monetization in the way they want?
