Hello - Does anyone have a good source for understnading what long-tail keywords mean. I'm not understanding the difference between broad, long term or other keywords. Thanks!
Picture the long tail of a dinosaur. Long tail keywords are the keywords that get very few hits, but because of the huge amount of keywords there are, they can account for an important percentage of your traffic
- Jorge Blanco
Picture Amazon. They have books that sale only 1 copy a week or less. Not a great source of income right? Well not quite so. Amazon has thousands of these books. As you can imagine, put together they account for thousands of sales per day. That is long tail
- Jorge Blanco
Okay, so is this likened to the principal that google will send traffic to you if your keyword is plural when someone uses the singular term? And if so then we want long tail keywords in content yes? how about tags? or in labels? Where is the best place to find long tail keywords? I understand that Market Samurai is broad term search. Thanks for any guidance - so much appreciated.
- Elizabeth
long tail refers to keywords with low search values that are related to you main key phrase. They are long tail because on their own they dont bring a lot of traffic, but if you cultivate a handful of this, they can make a difference.
- Jorge Blanco
You can use Market Samurai for long tail as well. Just need to come up with some basic related keywords and MS will help you find which ones you can use for the long tail approach (Criteria: Very few searches, minimal SEO competition)
- Jorge Blanco
Thanks so very much - okay off to digest :-) Thanks for article Ed.
- Elizabeth
I have a different understanding of long tails. These are KWs that have 3+ words in them. For example, "golf club" is too wide. A long tail would be "Callaway Women's Big Bertha golf club". This will have fewer searches and competition but very targeted. If you have a blog on golf clubs, this would be a good long tail to use in a post. There's a very good free course about long tails here http://www.longtailtreasure.com/.

For deciphering Market Samurai jargon: http://short.to/8gd Also there's a useful article in the Noble Samurai knowledgebase: http://short.to/8pa Noble Samurai's forum's a great place to get a grip on most of these phrases. Eg, if you click on the "broad match" tag to the left of the list of threads, you get some interesting threads. A tip for finding more long-tails: use the SEO Digger option at the Keyword Research stage. You can export the list you get and paste up to 200 at a time back into MS.
- Isha (Marysia)
Doctor Jorge picture the long tail of a dinosaur doesn't even fit your scenario it fits Amy (9yards) (which is also my understanding of long tail) and she's obviously researched it.
- Russ
“How do I kick the ball at such an angle to hit the goal net.”--- This is a long tail key word, not many hits but very targeted.
- Karen
Excellent info everyone. It also was my understanding that the long tail was, as Amy described, 3+ words which was my concern with adding to labels and tags etc. In conclusion it is now my understanding that simply long tail is either one or more combo of words that don't get big hits but DO get hit and are very targeted. Very good info to know going into my next niche. thanks so much everyone - I love all the diverse knowledge here, very valuable group to know *tipping my hat to you all*

Does anyone know why I cannot have a paid (fee) contest on my website? $5.00 entry fee? composition required. Prize being my stained glass eagle? I am a good stained glass artist - this is a beautiful eagle. Can I do this? Someone told me it wasn't legal?
There are very specific legal requirements you need to follow to run contests. I'm not an attorney but I know you cannot require a fee/purchase to enter a sweepstakes. Also different states have different laws about contests, sweeps, raffles etc and what kind of information you have to provide. I would consult an attorney that specializes in this area just to make sure you are totally covered before you do anything.
- Amy (9yards)
There is no such thing as a paid or fee contest... once you begin to charge a fee for a contest with an uncertain outcome it is no longer considered a contest, but gambling. And as you might know gambling is illegal in most US states and the gambling laws online are becoming even tighter. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki...
- Ben VanScoter
How does it work for creative writing competitions where you have to send your entry with a fee? Would that be considered gambling too? It's something I'd thought about... Thanks
- Yvonne Hands
There is an easy way to accomplish what you are going for. I mean look at duck races, they happen all the time. You pay for a duck that you don't get to keep and there is an undetermined winner. I think what you are doing is more of a raffle? I agree with Amy, contact a lawyer. Should only cost $100. Should pay it's self off in 1 or 2 raffles. Good Luck
- Michael Roberts
Raffles are still considered gambling in most states, but some exceptions are made for registered non-profits and with special permits. I would question the legality of what you're interested in doing. The closest thing you might be able to get is doing something like entry with a $5 donation is recommended with a disclaimer that a donation won't increase anyone's chances of winning (you might want to verify that with an attorney on the exact execution).
- Ben VanScoter
I suppose really I just want to sell my stained glass eagle - which is gorgeous, with a 30 inch wing span, and reinforced around the edges. Actually I am rather depressed about not being able to sell it and haven't made anything since I made it....

Has anyone actually gotten their copy of STSE2/Net Effect? I can't tell you how frustrating it is to get email saying "read this article" or "watch this video" when the package never showed up on the doorstep . . . or am I the only one?
I'm in the UK and mine hasn't arrived yet. I have a friend in the US who said someone has twittered that theirs has arrived, but I'm not hearing widespread reports of them arriving.
- Dominic Goucher
Thanks, Dominic! It feels better to know that I'm not the only one imitating Veruca Salt. ("I want it NOW!!") 8-)

I don't have mine yet - and I ordered on day 1. However, UPS hasn't run for me yet today. So perhaps today is the day! I received the email last night with my bonus download links.
- Traci Knoppe
You're lucky. I can't even get Stomper to accept my payment. Guess I'll have to do without!
- Frans
I am in Aus and anything like this typically takes two to three weeks to turn up ...
- gerry
I feel for ya, Gerry. That sucketh. But the emails come from Georgia, and I'm in Oregon, which is still Amurika, last I checked. Maybe they haven't been mailed out yet? All I know is, no joy today. Maybe tomorrow . . .
- LJF Wolffe
I have not received mine yet, either. It seems as though these orders take 2 to 3 weeks for delivery.
- Mary Tenhulzen
mine hasn't arrived yet and I'm near Chicago
- Bob Perry
They said they would email us when they were going to ship, I haven't even gotten that email yet.
- Susan Kaul

I am living Canada and it takes less than a week to get a package from Japan... I guess they didn't ship it yet else it would've been here a long time ago
- Julien Hardy

I live in Charlotte, NC USA and I got mine 2 days ago. Good stuff!
- Bob Diamond
I Ordered mine on 4 of Sept, received my package today after sending stompernet an email that I didn't receive mine yet, I got replied the next day and here I got mine, I guess you sort of have to remind them by sending an email on this address try it out stse2support@stompernet.com because on one of emails said THANKS FOR CONTACTING US ABOUT YOU ORDER
- Shakeel786
from twhirl
I got it on Tuesday in PA. Maybe they mail it state-by-state and started from the east?
- Rita
Hmmm, interestingly enough I haven't yet received my package nor a reply to my inquiry regarding the shipping. I ordered, and was debited, on September 9th. Even it being an international order I would have expected the package by now. I agree, it is a bit frustrating to get the emails without any way to take action. Contact the company. In the meantime, create a label or folder, for those emails so you can easily refer back to them when your package does arrive. By labels, I'm referring to gmail.
- Esti Allina-Turnauer
Still no joy in Oregon. Thanks for the email: I just sent them a note.
- LJF Wolffe
It's Friday and I'm still waiting...and caring a little less each day.
- liz
It's here for me too!! Squee!!! However, it's sadly lacking in females on the cover. ;) Stay tuned for female IM world domination soon... we need some estrogen enhanced Net Effects covers, wouldn't you say? ;)
- Traci Knoppe
I haven't received mine yet, either. I agree that it's frustrating to be receiving emails telling us to implement stuff from the vids when we can't watch 'em. A few days ago, they sent out an email explaining that their distribution service has been overloaded. So now I don't feel so impatient. I just needed to know what the deal was. (I'm in the US).

Great stuff! EzineArticles ROCKS!

I think EZA is behind since we bombarded them. They usually approve my articles in a day or two. This article took 4 days.
- Amy (9yards)
Sometimes it gets more submission, so it may take longer time to approve, even as a premium member. But Amy, I can tell you that is not the case right now, as my article is still approved in less than 24 hours. And yes, I'm a premium EZA member.
- Hendry Lee
from twhirl
Hi Hendry. I have a few more articles to hit premium status! My articles are usually turned around in a day so not sure what happened this time. Just assumed it was the 30DC influx of articles to review!
- Amy (9yards)
Make those articles really good. You will be upgraded to premium instead of basic plus directly. :)
- Hendry Lee
from twhirl
Amy, I have what might be a silly question. How did you learned about the article being published somewhere else? Did they tell you ab. it?
- Rita
Hi Rita. When you log into EZA, go to the Author Tools tab. From there, go to View My Reports. You'll find a ton of information about how many times articles have been published, number of visitors and number of click throughs on your link. Hope that helps!
- Amy (9yards)
The Meet Up with Ed in NYC next on Wed will be at Stitch 247 W37th St between 7th & 8th at 7:00. It's a few block from Penn Station, Port Authority and the PATH station. The front of the bar is reserved for our group.
Sound's great! Is it possible to setup aweber 4 WPD blog? Sorry, maybe it's already explained in lessons. I'm 2 days behind :)
- Rita
Rita, up to Day 22, there's no mention of Aweber in TDC. And to answer your question, yes it is possible.
- Hendry Lee
from twhirl
Thanks, Hendry. I guess, now I have to ask, how to go about setting it up :) Do I need a special plug-in, or edit CSS? or maybe it's much simplier than that?
- Rita
Sorry to be asking so much. I appreciate the patience. I'm not used to this. I normally work with FTP and all installations manually. So even though this is supposed to be easy I'm having difficulty. The thing is my blog is now installed on wordpress direct but you when you go to my domain which is www.thetruthway.net it shows my hostgator cpanel page! Help please.
- Claudia
Have you logged in to your ftp program to check if your blog has been installed to your directories? Are you using hostgator both as your domain and host?
- Darren Spruyt
Yes I did exactly as was said in the 30 day challenge I bought a domain and a hostgator baby package from hostgator.
- Claudia
I must confess what's suppooosed to be easy has become a major difficult issue for me!
- Claudia
Okay it#s working - Duh - I cleared my cache!
- Claudia
Call the Hostgator support desk. It's a default Hostgator page and this happened to me too. There's a file you need to delete in your cpanel to get rid of it. I can't remember which one so they can point you in the right direction. It will take them 2 minutes to sort this out!
- Amy (9yards)
But I still should get like 1000 a day even if it's its phrase match...whats going on
- ZoekmachineGuru
from twhirl
good post, thanks...so, why again is seot based on broad match??
- EcoAussie
from twhirl
good post (left a comment with my idea about the thing) Umit: if Google writes 1000 under July, that means a 1000 for that month. if you divide that by 30 it's not as good.. you should see 6000 or higher
- Thomas Chisler
from twhirl
Excellent information. Thanks for the detail. I'm going to start using this to cross check KWs before diving in feet first.
- Amy (9yards)
Thanks to everyone for their supportive comments, I've found a new niche AND confirmed it - let's see how fast I can get this baby running!
- Paul King
from twhirl
Paul - Thanks for posting this. When I do searches for what I'm looking for, I always do phrase matches. Go figure.
- David Lemberg
This has been mentioned in the 30DC forum (by me, among others) but never made clear in the videos etc. Who knows why, as it makes a huge difference in which phrase you pick to work on.
- Kevin Wilson
umm actually we have covered this alot - in particular the daily shows and Q and A's
- Ed Dale
rob talks about the speed of ranking - and this is where you see the impact
- Ed Dale
FWIW, I've managed to get through the first ten days on a new niche in about 6 hours (most of the that time spent creating content) New domain live and socialmarked, the lot! Go 30dc!
- Paul King
from twhirl
Does anyone remember what daily show covered this or could someone summarize?
- Amy (9yards)
I think perhaps it's been misunderstood. Think Ed is referring to the fact that we're doing this as a test, as that's the only true indicator of traffic. My post was really to show that I fluffed my initial analysis. Maybe try days 2 and 3?
- Paul King
from twhirl
Its taken me a year to figure this out! :-) I've really struggled getting my site up for this 30DC but I have learned SOOOOO much by just sticking with it. Lesson learned! Now fingers crossed I make a little $$$!
- Amy (9yards)
I'm still guilty for the 5th mistake :-)
- Hendry Lee
from twhirl
I would change the title to say "All Entreprenuers Must Know". Applies to all businesses.
- Craig Eubanks
Haha. Yep #5 for sure. Though I do have some already live. A big backlog of domains waiting for development though...
- Frann Leach
HI, it's frustrating ! Finally get my blog working and now I have no Sale Offer on the page. More time seeking solution on the forum, now waiting for WPD to respond to my ticket. AGAIN.
Perhaps more appropriately is that some themes don't support theme at all.. not only sale offer widget.. but there is an effort to compile a list of working themes here from TDC-ers in FriendFeed and forum... Let's hope to see them soon...
- Hendry Lee
from twhirl
Greg, did you get yours to work? I switched between a number of themes that were supposed ly optimized yesterday and could not get them to work.
- Rebecca Briggs
I've tried several of these themes that are in the list as "widget ready." I've also been through quite a few listed in the forum that have worked for others. I've also cut down my text in the ad. Still bupkiss. Marty from WPD posted on Friday that they were trying to fix this. Looks like no luck so far.
- Amy (9yards)
I found something that worked for me. I was typing in the image tag and having no luck. Then I copied it from the instructions, pasted it into the text box and that did it. Apparently it's case specific so try that. I also got the original theme that I wanted by doing this.
