But no one makes love like Neil Patrick Harris is dancing? FAIL!
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
My brother in law in the Philippines can't be dissuaded from naming his son Elmo. I hope that unborn boy is ready to be tormented for the rest of his life. Why do parents do that to their kids?
- Bradley Farless
You know, in my heart I hope that people like NPH who seem just so damn awesome on the screen are just as cool in real life. Anyone met the fellow in person?
- Adam Lasnik
I'm sure he's a decent guy. Never met him, though.
- Josh Haley
But he sure can dance, just look at him go!
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
Love him when he's unicorn watching.
- Gabrielle V
Okay, I swear I am not just pimpin' good swing music, but I was looking at this GIF and listening to this song - http://lala.com/zPe9 ("Billie's Bounce" performed live by Buddy Rich) - and it matches! :o
- Adam Lasnik
Gross. I just unliked to be contrary. Yet another reason why I pulled back from FriendFeed. And why getting swallowed up by Facebook, the great leveler, couldn't make more sense.
- Rick Powell
That's right, all you horrible time-wasters you! Get back to talking about kernels and APIs! Have you no Protestant work-ethic? /sarcasm
- Neal Jansons
The Great Google Wave invite thread. Anyone who wants an invite post your Gmail address here and anyone who has invites available please use to invite the people on this list. There are also a bunch of requests in the Invites group here: http://friendfeed.com/invites
I have a few but holding them for a few people who have already asked me. I'm at kolint [at] googlewave [dot] com btw. A pain I know but if you can, could you update your comment when you have an account or just delete your comment. Ta! :-) EDIT: Try this site for invites: http://googlewaveinvites.com/
- Kol Tregaskes
Are people on this list getting invites or at least been told they have an invite on the way? You might have to be patient, it could take a long time for one to come through.
- Kol Tregaskes
Adam, yep agree. Maybe because I did that (month ago though) helped me get mine through from Vijay so quickly!
- Kol Tregaskes
@Kol, the invitation process seems to be based on nominations. For example, everytime someone nominates/invites you, you get bumped up the queue for an account until you're at the top and you get sent an invite by the team
- Ysabel Legaspi
Ysabel, ah I see, So lots of people must have nominated me. Darn, so a few users I have nominated could be waiting a looooong time. :-(
- Kol Tregaskes
if that voting system is right I'm very annoyed. I asked for an invite months ago, now all the numpties are all over it I'm not going to get a look in. It's like I've been sat at the front of a shop queue and everyone's just walking right past me into the shop. I am British but I detest both queuing and waiting, so this is pretty tough going
- Toby Graham
Like most other people, yesterday I wasn't aware of that I «needed» a Google Wave invitation this badly...but now I am!!! quackofdawn at gmail dot com

neternity@gmail.com and i promise to send a wave of 100,901 twitter followers to your doorstep each of whom will have averaged 1 tweet in their existence - this might not get me an invite but surely it will get some notice - must have that something special - my google wave invite special sauce ingredient is twitter juice PS Not to be construed as an offer, not valid in any of the 53 US states, do not try this at home, caution: contents are hot.

- Vezquex: God of FF
I've been too busy to get on FF the last few days....figures something important happening and I missed it! I knew about Google Wave but didn't know there would be a thread to post a request. In any case, better late than never, I'd love an invite at madeliene2007 at gmail.com. :)

How does anyone know if someone has already been invited? You could go back and edit your comment when you receive an invitation, but since that takes days, it could be ages before you know.
- marziah
I've not even had a nomination, RK. At google dot com I'm suezanne , in the event anyone wants to make a nomination. I've asked before on friendfeed. It's kind of humiliating to beg.

Roll call...this can be great if we all participate. Add yourself to this shared map. I created a placemark on the 2 major intersections near where I live.
- Mark Krynsky
Mo, I'm a newb to the shared maps stuff, but I turned on collaboration and allowed anyone to edit the map. There should be an edit button and then you can add a placemark.
- Mark Krynsky
Robert bought me a new house in the northern suburbs.
- Andrew Trinh
@Bec...nice. You are the first brave female on here.
- Mark Krynsky
Cool idea, Mark! I was thinking something like this would be fun the other day. Duly added myself - or at least the nearest big intersection. ;)
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Mousing over the usernames shows your Google profile info...cool.
- Mark Krynsky
I marked a bus stop near my house. But not TOO near. :)
- Nine
If you haven't yet...go add FriendFeed to your Google Profile...it will then auto-discover and allow you to add a ton of other profiles you have.
- Mark Krynsky
Thanks guys. This is coming along nicely. It's great to have as a resource to see where everyone is from. Hopefully this can become a standard feature on FF one day.
- Mark Krynsky
Canterbury, Melbourne, Victoria added
- Duncan Riley
Current count: 13 US, 11 Europe, 3 Australia, 1 Middle East. Happy to see many others add themselves overnight. Hoping more will continue this.

Hey Robert Haas - We're apparently neighbors. - edit. Okay maybe not, unless you live at the airport. XD
- Haggis (Sean Loyless)
I've read the instruction and still don't see the button thing to add myself. I'm feeling pretty stupid right now.
-
@Jill, make sure you are logged into your Google account and then click on the edit button above the list of names already on the map. You will then see the pushpin in the upper left hand side of the map.
- Mark Krynsky
Added. Seems like there are a lot of us in the Bay Area...we must do a get together at some point.
- Neal Jansons
@Neal yea, we really need a FriendFeed meetup. I might be up there for Web 2.0 in March...or we can have one at SXSW if a large number of us are going. Let's plan and get the Upcoming page going.
- Mark Krynsky
@Mark Not gonna make SXSW, but am definitely down for working on an FF get together. March is long enough away to make sure plenty of people have time to plan ahead. I added you on Upcoming so we can start coordinating it. Anyone else interested/want to help set this up?
- Neal Jansons
Maybe we can talk Paul & Bret into letting us invade the FF offices for a meetup in conjunction with Web 2.0? That would be sooooo cool!
- Mark Krynsky
Oooh, now that's a really great idea.
- Neal Jansons
Pinned! sheesh this just cost me 1/2 hour of time as I scrolled thru all the folks :)
- bear (aka Mike Taylor)
Except for Bret, there are no FriendFeeders on the penninsula between San Jose and San Francisco. So much for Silicon Valley early adopters.
- Ryan Kuder
Cluelessness alert! I'm not seeing how to add my pushpin!
- Hutch Carpenter
For some reason whenever i use google maps in creation-mode, it defaults to some other maps I've used, not the one I'm trying to access - ah, figured it out. Had to de-activate some other collaborative maps
- anna sauce
Added. What a great way to see who's on FF in Austin, TX!
- Carter Rabasa
Nice! I'm the only active FriendFeeder in Montreal: Quebec represents FF! I could be a French Canadian FF ambassador or something. =)
- ElijahBailey-Zu of FF <0,
i'm not predicting the death of FF until they shoot it in the base of the skull. i actually use Facebook LESS post-acquisition.
- Joe Silence is not dead
Maybe things were down in September because so many people went back to school?
- Nine
FriendFeed is still the best place to 1) Aggregate all content from around the Web and 2) See others activity around the Web. Also, if you assume Facebook wins, piping content through here fills out your Facebook profile. So of course I'm still here.
- Louis Gray
There you go, Allen. Straight from (one of) the horse's mouth. :) Louis is still here, still active and even interacting with you.
- Curtiss Grymala
yep - i just saw a pic of his kid in a tshirt :)
- Allen Stern
"Consultant Louis Gray appears to be using Google Reader to share content he finds interesting." Wait, I see him right up there.^^^^^
- Christopher Harley
hate facebook, and scoble's prediction that facebook would be the next big thing! you just can't help those folks that just get there for the girl-boy thing...or for their friends and family, there is a lot of people doing it there and a great section of that isn't of any help when it comes to questions and tech stuff, it might be a big thing but compared to friendfeed it is...
- ffcode
You know it would be cool if everyone left FriendFeed because then Louis and I would have the edge against everyone else that left it in the dust. It's still an awesome tool guys!
- Jesse Stay
Allen, I just hope that everybody stops blogging so I am the only one doing it. If you naysayers all stop FriendFeeding, that's fine too. Go have fun on your Twitter. :)
- Louis Gray
I noticed a decline, but it really seems to be picking up lately, especially in the last week.
- RAPatton
i thought we were all going to posterous? i booked a big coach bus to take us all over there! rubel is driving! :-P
- Allen Stern
hahahaha "go have fun on your twitter" there isn't anything like friendfeed, no not even posterous...
- ffcode
I haven't noticed any big declines since the week or two after the Facebook announcements. Most of the people I interact with are still here... and I've subbed to new people... I don't know what that article is talking about. Seems like the article is a self fulfilling prophecy: let's say that everyone is leaving FriendFeed so that everyone will leave FriendFeed. Actually, it almost...
- Her Lindsay-ness
kind of, though I've noticed most have changed exactly how they use it before and after the big sell, for example there are fewer imports of the particular services and more of personal blog RSS's, which I'm sure is due to who own the content issue
- sofarsoShawn
ffcode, Paul Bucheit posted something just yesterday, as did Benjamin Golub. They're still using the site.
- Jesse Stay
moved on as in moved on to another projects are they still working on ff?
- ffcode
jesse, but their activity has seen a drop, bret isn't doing much
- ffcode
I've personally noticed a large drop among the usual people I subscribed to. My main feed was so dead I even had to ask if the real-time feature broke down.
- sofarsoShawn
ffcode, they're working on the facebook code now... figuring out how to move forward while integrating the friendfeed features (iirc)
- Chris Heath
Great... Just when I was getting used to FriendFeed... So what's the new fad service? Outside of Google Wave and the still going strong Twitter/Facebook news, I haven't heard of anything new coming out lately. Maybe it's just me but I'm itching for more revolutionary free stuff. Posterous FTW though. :p
- Fake Name
ffcode, they released Tornado server recently. I think that was a pretty significant activity
- Jesse Stay
Fake Name, don't go anywhere... Long Live FriendFeed
- Chris Heath
For the record, Allen, Cal didn't lose this weekend because they had a bye week. :)
- Louis Gray
i'm of the opinion that FriendFeed (the service) is of more value -- to me-- than FriendFeed (the community) and if the community goes off and disipates it will be a loss, but the service is still worth a lot to me
- Chris Heath
I stopped pruning my FF feed to promote interaction and don't bother sharing with FF as much. I just post links through twitter now and upped my usage for facebook. I also stopped updating the rooms I started.
- Alan Le
FF is still my favourite, although I'm quite. But that's due to other activities.
- Ton Zijp
this is control, and you all who registered on ff need to be here ASAP...and we need to rebuild the conversations ETA a day at most...
- ffcode
I'm still here. More active some days than others. But when we DO need to abandon the ship, why not try Cliqset?
- Patrik Johansson
hahhahaaaa, yeah that'd be FriendFeed done right
- sofarsoShawn
Yeah I read that article. I don't think it's better than FF, not close. But when FF goes down, maybe Cliqset could be something?
- Patrik Johansson
Fake Name, what scrutiny are you holding my feed up to? Not sure what you mean.
- Chris Heath
I use FF for aggregation, for discovery of interesting stories, and for following discussions. I never received much interaction with my own posts here. It's a mystery to me why people complain about FF complexity when Facebook is way more complex and less intuitive. Twitter is too simple, and therefore requires ridiculous hacks like RTs and @s. Unpopular Jaiku is better than Twitter....
- howard shippin
@Chris Heath, it was just a fancy way of saying I've subscribed to your feed.
- Fake Name
btw oward, why is Jaiku better than Twitter? You didn't exactly clarify. Personally though...yeah, end of the day I either want a better RSS or a better RSS segmenter than anything else. FriendFeed is nice but it's still more of a lifestream than a Yahoo Pipes' Dream.
- Fake Name
Fake Name, well that makes sense... i kind of thought you might have been putting me down in a sarcastic manner, but that makes sense too
- Chris Heath
Haven't found anything to replace it with just yet, so yeah, I'm still here.
- Steven Perez
To be honest, I have stopped listening to a lot of social media 'experts'. FriendFeed has always been about social interaction for me... After 1,000,345 stories on Twitter vs Facebook, it's getting old. Interaction may be down... but it may be the content, not the service.
- Johnny Worthington
Good thread, my comment on the post here: http://alexschleber.posterous.com/my-comm... If FF goes away entirely, it would be a huge loss of the (Twitter) archiving capabilities. I still don't get why FF didn't go the full-on Twitter client route, they could have pwned TweetDeck with better groups, MUCH better persistence, etc. They could have ridden the Twitter hype wave all the way. Of course to make that happen, they would have had to optimize the Twitter use cases.
- Alex Schleber
I like FF for everything it does that Twitter DOESN'T. I'm very glad they didn't just make it another lame Twitter client. How many of those do we really need?
- Her Lindsay-ness
FB could easily inject thousands or millions of new users. The fact that they don't, and probably won't, sucks. I think ff was bought because it was seen as a threat, and now I fear it is being left to die. sigh.
- Garin Kilpatrick
I think the 50 mio is a transfer payment to FF guys... They dont need anything and I dont think that they seen ff as a thread.
- Atif UNALDI
pity, i was just starting to enjoy using friendfeed even though no body ever replied to any of my comments lol
- Loc
@bluecockatoo / Lindsay, I wasn't saying that FF should ONLY be another Twitter client, rather the best, on top of also being the best for other services and FF discussion (different use cases). BTW, you may have noticed that FF was always at least 50% Twitter content. Why deny/fight reality, especially if that reality could have greatly bolstered FF instead of seeing it flounder and then having to sell out to Zuckerberg for the coding talent (AKA liquidation).
- Alex Schleber
I've actually been spending more time here lately, still subscribing to interesting feeds - but also started looking for decent replacement. Expecting may be some time before I find one - no hurry ....
- Dan Freeman
Uh yeaah bitch, I just signed up today, bow down and worship.
- Gina
Garin, i suspect ff guys had facebook in mind when they were designing it...
- ffcode
"While comparing Posterous to Friendfeed is like comparing a bagel to a piece of fish, ..." lol. But.. can't argue with the OP; it's a shame..
- thinkQuick
I still open up FF and leave it running all day long.
- Chris Jackson
Yup, still using it. At the Mac FriendFeed still rules over Twitter. Slightly different story on the iPhone where Twitter is served by several superb third party clients, in particular Twittelator Pro, which drag me to the platform. On the Mac though it's a no contest. I'm staying in the hope that FriendFeed will see further updates. If this doesn't happen and if it rots on the vine then I'll consider other services. For now though FriendFeed seems the best there is out there.
- David Hall
have we passed 100 comments yet so Scobelizer will take note
- Chris Heath
No, nobody uses FriendFeed any more. I certainly don't.
- Mellissa Jane
I still use FriendFeed, although I haven't been as active as I would have liked, as of late. :(
- Tyson Key
I didn't want to respond to this yesterday but I think it's really sad that blogs\news try to put things into the Deadpool before they actually happen. Throughout my career I've seen this, X is dead and in many cases they still exist. Why does media (including blogs) feel it is there role to speed up or create a death? My view is that if they are still talking about it, it's normally still doing OK.
- manielse (Mark Nielsen)
I especially liked how she called us idiots as we had it wrong this whollllle damn time. Oh yes, because she's in the superior position to make such a crude judgment call. Dumb fug.
- sofarsoShawn
Shawn, who's she? and where did she say this? now i'm interested...
- Chris Heath
I do, but I wish there was a way of filtering what the Facebook app posts, e.g. no "@" replies...
- David "Lefty" Schlesinger
from Nambu
I use Friendfeed a lot more than Twitter because there is less noise and spam so it's fine if the numbers are low as long as they keep running it. I do spend most on my time on facebook because that's where my close friends and family are. It would be easier to be here if there was interaction on any of my posts.
- Jason Williams
from iPhone
@fake name (Twitter vs. Jaiku) ...It's not like I actually use Jaiku, but I see that it has threaded conversations. That's an improvement right there.
- howard shippin
I find myself using friendfeed even more after the acquisition. I usually start conversations here and auto-post to twitter. I just seem to get more interaction here than twitter. I get a few @replies here and there on twitter but its usually my close friends.
- Bryan Lee
so am i... maybe it's december, not friendfeed? students are back to their studies, business people realize that the quarter ends in september and so on... i've cut my browsing to minimum - no twitter, no facebook, only friendfeed
- Kirill Bolgarov
Off topic: Do your Twitter updates come as fast as usual or are they late? Because mine are unusually late. Google Reader shares too.
- rukku
lol! aww, that's not a positive outlook.. there are plenty of people out there really happy in their marriages. It takes a bit of work on both ends, but it's not impossible to have a happy ending.
- Maria
Lol. The last one with all the babies is the funniest.
- Alan Le
Sounds an awful lot like my daily high school life, I swear. :)
- Zach Flauaus
I'm at stage two still--and its been three years!!
- Terence
Wow thats definitely depressing and most certainly not how I get down.
- Nicholas Kreidberg
Thanks... it's *semi* safe, it does include some f-bombs. Wish I could easily shrink it down a bit more. Anyway, it was kinda sad :( I keep hoping things won't go that way... this Exciting Phase has lasted for a solid 6 months so far...
- Kamilah Gill
Reminds me of the joke about the phases of sex... The 1st kind of sex is Smurf Sex. This kind of sex happens when youfirst meet someone and you both have sex until you are blue in the face. The 2nd kind of sex is Kitchen Sex. This is when you have been withyour partner for a short time and you are so horny you will have sexanywhere, even in the kitchen. The 3rd kind of sex is Bedroom Sex....

In particular this game: http://www.sega.co.uk/games... - Napoleon: Total War - and specifically it will be more the tools to build the game and less of the game itself.
- Kol Tregaskes
dude I love the total war series! congrats man.
- Alan Le
I used to be a tester back in '95 or '96 so I'm basically going back to my roots and starting again. But the idea is to progress further and to have a more stable job. Contracting is too insecure atm. Though the money is nice the work is sparse. So I've dropped to a tester for now.
- Kol Tregaskes
Grats dude. The last tester I knew said they quoted Grandma's Boy at each other all the time. http://www.imdb.com/title... Based on the trailer I'd figured it would be hamhanded and irritating but apparently not.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
But I'm back doing what I like or at least in an industry I love so hopefully I can build this thing called a 'career'. For now I start in 2 weeks and will be at the new job till at least the middle of January.
- Kol Tregaskes
Alan, I'll be asking for your feedback then. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Daniel, LOL. I've seen that movie, not great.
- Kol Tregaskes
Congrats. Just don't start singing 'So this is total war, girl' by the wonderful Comsat Angels. That might irritate your new colleagues after a while - http://www.youtube.com/watch...
- Andy C
My first testing job involved testing games. During the interview the boss said" You will have to play Doom all day - but not look like you are enjoying it." I've been a tester ever since.
- Andy Roth
haha in the future i will directly complain to you :)
- Chris Hofmann
QA can be a very rewarding if you get the right game... FTW!
- Graham Sergeant
I think Total War is the right game... with the right company. :-) There is high quality throughout the company, including the QA department, so a little scary as well as exciting.
- Kol Tregaskes
Andy, who did you work for when you were testing Doom?
- Kol Tregaskes
What a great job! Are they hiring???? I would love to test games :)
- ChaCha Fance
All spaces taken up for now. :-) Game testing is very rewarding. It's changed a lot since I was last a tester, it's very organised and you are given a specific part of the game to test (over and over and over) with specific tasks and deadlines. All sounds good though. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
I have always wondered how it would be to work in game development and testing. This is really cool Kol. I've already congratulated you before, but once again, congrats! :)
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
It probably has its own difficulties, but hey, playing games at work, that's the dream :)
- Halit Okumus
Thanks guys. I don't think I'll touch the game itself much, not for my job anyway. I'll be playing it in my leisure time though. I'll be more a IT support tester from what I've been told. I'll find out more on the 5th. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
That's because everyone ran to Greader which has a long way to go before it can live up to FF. Conversations on there are way too hard. Worse than Twitter.
- Kimber Scott
If I ran the world...this would get you a 6 month prison sentence.....
- Stephanie Segel
Our local SCCA chapter has several loaner helmets painted that color. Thefts went down dramatically compared to when they were just black.

I'm not so sure. I once saw an old VW bug with a "Girl Power" bumper sticker being driven around by some skin head looking dudes.

Except that for a thief to steal this, they would have it stripped back and turned into a real Ferrari in around 30 minutes flat (including travel time) so I don't think it would be that much of a deterrent. ;)
- Travis Koger
So, if curiosity is killing you about Tad's and my secret stealth project, we've got a room just for you. Leave a comment here if you want to be first in line for our teasers!
@imabonehead... figured you were a given... you should already have an invite. ;) @LogEx, if you're worried you can delete that comment now. :)
- Her Lindsay-ness
Yes, you most certainly are, Akiva (you and Jonas both are big parts of it)!! @Louis, I see you and nope, you can't get away that easy. :P
- Her Lindsay-ness
Hrmph. Secretive so-and-sos. I wouldn't accept an invitation to your secret project room if it came on linen stationery engraved in gold! *folds arms across her chest, lifts nose into the air* Or, you know, whatever.
- Ladybug Heather
*offers Ladybug Heather a linen invitation inscribed with gold and a cherry on top*

I'm serious, I'm in the bay area about two months a year, and for every bad look I get for saying "sanfran" the louder I say it the next time.
- Alex Wilhelm (FF BLOWS)
I kinda liked annoying suburbanites by calling it The City...
- Andrew C
Bla, there just too picky. Keeping saying San Fran, if San Fran is like the blogging world they'll get over it in a day or two when something new or shiny comes along
- Holden Page
I either say SF or San Fran...but usually say the whole thing. I lived in San Jose which is a bigger city than SF, so to me, The City is San Jose. :)
- Alex Scoble
Although, now, The City is Portland, which I call P-Town for short.
- Alex Scoble
And seriously, to the people that get bothered by "San Fran"...GET A LIFE!
- Alex Scoble
Oh Alex, there are so many more important reasons to shout that to residents of "The City"
- Jason Wehmhoener
growing up in the east Bay Area, everyone referred to it as 'frisco. Now I just call it the City
- Alan Le
from iPhone
The City. Even people from San Jose refer to SF as such. :D
- Helen Sventitsky
You can't go to other parts of the world and call it "The City." Cisco it is. I like networks.
- MiniMage, sheeple of FF
Are you here now, Zee? You've had a couple SF-related posts...
- Spidra Webster
If you are in the Bay Area, it's referred to as The City. If you are somewhere else or talking to someone from outside the area, you say San Francisco. Bring your shorts and take the Segway tour in Fisherman's Wharf if you want to call it San Fran or Frisco. :)
- Cristo
And, Zee, we already had this discussion. It's not San Fran or Frisco, and Twitter is not technology.
- Cristo
Okay, I won't try to argue that, although maybe in some zen kind of way I could come up with something. :)
- Cristo
I guess my issue is taking advice from people like Alex Scoble, who has never lived in San Francisco, calls it San Fran, thinks San Jose was always the biggest city in the region, and now lives in "Can't Pump Your Own Gas, Meth-Head Capital Of The World Portland." :)
- Cristo
I think the people who get their panties in a twist about calling it "Frisco" aren't natives anyway. I'm willing to bet. '49ers called it "Frisco" so present-day natives shouldn't have a problem with it. I call it "The City" because that's what everyone here calls it, as presumptuous as that is.
- Spidra Webster
What's your definition of a native, and do you think most of the 49ers were natives? Anyway, using cowboy slang today is just silly. I don't get my panties in a twist about it, I just find it funny just like I find Segway tours funny.
- Cristo
A working-class name is "Frisco". "Bay Area" I've often heard. Never actually heard "The City"
- Mitchell Tsai
SFO based on airport code. I call Silicon Valley "the Valley" but that confuses some Californians who have many different valleys.
- Andrew Leyden
from iPhone
Both The City and The Valley are okay in the Bay Area. It gets more confusing (and to some, presumptive) to use it in other parts of California. No one is going o misunderstand you if you use these terms on the Google campus though.
- Cristo
Josh, the fact that you picked a binary number is interesting.
- Alan Le
Actually, I've always been looking for 1024 about you - please continue.
- Rich
People who know binary numbers recognize them quickly. You know the old joke, there are 10 kinds of people...Those who know binary and those who don't.
- Josh Haley
I see all the 25 things, and they are enjoyable to read, then I just got tagged to do a 48. I just thought I'd skip to 1024 and be done. :)
- Josh Haley
There are 10 types of people who know ternary, those who know ternary, those who don't, and those who mistake it for binary.
- Rich
I always liked and remember the number 16777216 (I´m not Rainman..it´s also a binary number....). Remember it from the days when my Amiga´s graphics was all the rage.
- Thomas Bøhm
1 was 2 smart 4 you. I 8 your cake when you turned 16 and drank 32oz of diet coke. Then chugged another 64oz for good measure. I waited 128 minutes for the 256-color GIF of you to download. The next 512 days you ignored me so now I write 1024 things about me for you to put in your | and smoke..

Mad Dog Palin--The scariest thing about John McCain's running mate isn't how unqualified she is - it's what her candidacy says about America : Rolling Stone - http://www.rollingstone.com/politic...
WOW...This is not just another article digging at palin - it is THE article digging at palin and her 'cultural' significance.
- Anna Haro
from Bookmarklet
"The great insight of the Palin VP choice is that huge chunks of American voters no longer even demand that their candidates actually have policy positions; they simply consume them as media entertainment, rooting for or against them according to the reflexive prejudices of their demographic, as they would for reality-show contestants or sitcom characters. Hicks root for hicks, moms for moms, born-agains for born-agains."
- Anna Haro
The truly disgusting thing about Sarah Palin isn't that she's totally unqualified, or a religious zealot, or married to a secessionist, or unable to educate her own daughter about sex, or a fake conservative who raised taxes and horked up earmark millions every chance she got. No, the most disgusting thing about her is what she says about us: that you can ram us in the ass for eight...

"Democracy doesn't require a whole lot of work of its citizens, but it requires some: It requires taking a good look outside once in a while, and considering the bad news and what it might mean, and making the occasional tough choice, and soberly taking stock of what your real interests are."
- Anna Haro
See, I believe that as a citizen you have the responsibility to pay attention to the people who will represent you and the laws they enact in your name. But with poor reporting and politicians doing so much behind closed doors, there's a dumbing down of American culture that's acceptable. How many people have you talked to who seem to have an opinion they want to spout on politics and in the same breath state proudly, "Politics bores me." or even worse, "All politicians are the same."?
- Anika
"And none of it matters, so long as you remember a few months before Election Day to offer them a two-bit caricature culled from some cutting-room-floor episode of Roseanne as part of your presidential ticket. And if she's a good enough likeness of a loudmouthed Middle American archetype, as Sarah Palin is, John Q. Public will drop his giant-size bag of Doritos in gratitude, wipe the Sizzlin' Picante dust from his lips and rush to the booth to vote for her."
- Trish R
And unfortunately, most of it is true (or at least I agree with it).
- Trish R
Wow, that's a hell of a picture. After reading the first two paragraphs, all I could think was how badly Matt Taibbi wants to be Hunter S. Thompson.
- Carla Thompson
Personally, I like Rolling Stone articles. But a word of caution.. they are always unapologetically extremely left-leaning.
- Phil G
hahaha...Carla, I thought the same thing.
- Anna Haro
The ironic thing is that the media is the primary cause of all this. Reducing politicians statements to sound bites where a few words from a larger speach can be spun one way or another. Politicians don't have to have grand ideas or positions, they just stick to hot button issues that play well on TV. Couple that with lobbyists and special interest groups to give them butt loads of...

I honestly don't know what the terms "left" and "right" mean anymore in American politics. I try to figure out who has the best command of the facts and who is making the most sense. This article makes a great deal of sense. (If I must define myself politically with a label, it would be "progressive libertarian.")
- Sean McBride
"Here's what Sarah Palin represents: being a fat fucking pig who pins "Country First" buttons on his man titties and chants "U-S-A! U-S-A!" at the top of his lungs while his kids live off credit cards and Saudis buy up all the mortgages in Kansas." - wow...harsh.
- Chris Hollander
Very interesting read, though disturbing. I put my money on McCain/Palin winning the election.
- Peter
I don't think I'd talk with him too much at a party. ;)
- Yolanda
Classic: "After eight years of unprecedented corruption, incompetence, waste and greed, the party of Karl Rove understood that 50 million Americans would not demand solutions to any of these problems so long as they were given a new, new thing to beat their meat over."
- Raoul Pop
Oh wow, a coworker informed me about this article a few days ago!!
- Terence
Taibbi *nails it* w/ the consumption of candidates as media entertainment. Infotainment has utterly corrupted news such that they are largely indistinguishable now. A huge disservice to the populace. And, of course, it results in this insane Reality TV show in front of us.
- Ayşe E.
wow..such poignant words. The article still resonating even after reading it through.
- Alan Le
Why is the entire country not going, "WTF? You can't find a person more qualified in the entire Republican party? REALLY?!?!" Her selection was condescending to our entire citizenry, and everyone seems to be rolling with it.
- Robert Fischer
Why aren't more Republican women outraged that the party thinks so little of women that when they feel the need to add a vagina to the ticket, they don't give a damn about whether she's actually qualified?
- Trish R
why aren't they more outraged? because they're living vicariously via the pit bull. they see her and say, 'she's just like me'. but prettier and i bet you they aren't willing to admit that. so they over-identify with her and i'm left saying, 'yea, but i wouldn't vote you president of a committee of 2.'
- Anika
Liked only because of the picture, not because I have any interest in US politics. ;-)

"But watching Palin's speech, I had no doubt that I was witnessing a historic, iconic performance. The candidate sauntered to the lectern with the assurance of a sleepwalker — and immediately launched into a symphony of snorting and sneering remarks, taking time out in between the superior invective to present herself as just a humble gal with a beefcake husband and a brood of healthy,...

"The rest of Palin's speech was the same dog-whistle crap Republicans have been railing about for decades. Palin's crack about a mayor being "like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities" testified to the Republicans' apparent belief that they can win elections till the end of time running against the Sixties. (They're probably right.)"
- Roberto Bonini
dear god, if you exist and hear prayers, please please, let there be some notion of civility return to this country in my lifetime. a man.

oh pretty regularly for about a year. didn't have a data plan on the phone so T-Mobile gave me MMS for free on my BB. :-) It's how I posted photos to Flickr.
- pea ♥ fierce as a woozle
Twice, but the first one went to the wrong number.
- Steve Lowe
from iPhone
never sent a mms - i think i send about 4 sms a month even tho i have unlimited
- Allen Stern
whats MMS ,, seriously ,, I know I have it ,, just dont know why I would ever have to send one
- johnpiercy
I used to do it about once a day prior to getting the iPhone. If iPhone supported it, I'd probably do it about once a day again.
- Rochelle
Mostly photos and videos. Some audio. Now that I think about it, I'm positive my current phone has MMS and not SMS. At any rate, my average with my current phone is about 15 per day.
- Anika
I think I sent one, just to test and see if it worked. With AT&T, though, you get charged extra to actually send the multimedia content that gets sent with the message (with unlimited messaging, the message itself is "free", but any photos, video, etc. sent with it uses your "data" plan), so I don't make a habit of it.
- Curtiss Grymala
200 or so. My iPhone supports MMS by the way.
- Liviu Barbat
Lots. Used to send them before I got a BB/iPhone more though. Then since we got MMS on the iPhone i sent them just because i could. It's not a dead feature yet though, most people I'd say still don't have internet enabled phones, but MMS is such an old feature it's on most of those handsets still.
- Simon Wicks
Thousands of times with my old phone. Have you never taken a picture with your phone and sent it to a friend? That's an MMS. Which is why I was amazed that the iPhone didn't have it. I've never wanted to send pictures via email. That makes no sense at all.
- Otto
why some iphone users wanted this so bad, who knows- maybe they never setup their default mail client.
- Franz Sittampalam
I send multimedia stuff through email. I never send MMS.
- Jason Huebel
Franz: When I want to send a picture to a friend, I want them to see it right now, possibly to respond to it. Email is not immediate.
- Otto
Otto, that is true but would you change your mind if you were using push email
- Franz Sittampalam
Franz: I do have push email. But not everybody has an iPhone. Many of the friends I want to send photos to in real time don't, nor should they have to have one. Which is why I need MMS, because it's ubiquitous on camera phones, except the bloody iPhone.
- Otto
Everyone does not have a data plan on their phone. I remember going through a lot of changes trying to send pics to my friends from my Sidekick 2.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach of FF
I agree with Otto one this one. The main thing that was holding me back from getting an iPhone is the lack of MMS. Most of my family do not have data plans, and I get regular MMS messages from them. But... with ATT finally setting a date to support MMS, I might just go out and get that iPhone now.
- Steven Bryden
Otto, agreed - I was referring to iphone users only "why some iphone users wanted this so bad, who knows- maybe they never setup their default mail client"; MMS is the best way to immediately share a picture otherwise :) - I've sent about 5 since it was activated, mostly for testing purposes. I don't want to pay upwards of 25p for sending someone a picture unless it's important.
- Franz Sittampalam
I spent more time enabling MMS on my iPhone than actually using it so you have a point.
- sean808080
I had no idea the iPhone lacked MMS. That makes the apps from companies that don't waste their time supporting my phone make a lot more sense. <eyeroll>
- Anika
