I was thinking about the limitations on TV broadcast video for a simulcast with sidebar conversation... not sure how many people have 62" TV's yet that would support offload to a interstital and separate chat window (reminds me of early AOL experiments with interactive pre-IPTV)
- Jay Cuthrell
I talk with Udell all the time, just not on the air recently
- Steve Gillmor
[ (TV) (sidebar) ] would be a pretty big screen
- Jay Cuthrell
okay, later. Lots of fun, Steve, thanks for rerunning for lamers like me who missed the first round.
- Karoli
Yes thanks very much for the bootlegs Jack, much appreciated all around.
- Michael Breslin
btw thank you for recording the prev show!
- Michael Pinto
Listened to the bootleg feed, great show. I doubt I'll ever watch live as I'm more a radio guy. Loren's comment as being a trusted source for reporting the Michael Jackson funeral has a disturbing similarity to Blackwater being a trusted source for the US Military. I'm all for keeping Feldman and Keen on the show and it was great hearing Calacanis again, Scoble on the other hand.... It's your show Steve
- Jason Adams
Just returned from holiday to discover that Steve has put the gang back together. Great first show. Love the fact that Steve no longer sounds like a call-in guest on his own show. Thanks to whoever set up the bootleg mp3 feed - vital for this long-term listener. Keep up the good work, chaps and chapesses!

Msoft wanted to go to all online subscription based software (that was the point of .NET) now that google has taken that path by storm, Msoft is now the choice if you want a hard copy of your software and local save. Ironic?

is yahoo.com just a microsoft bing shell now, or r they still independent?

Twitter was centralized, nearly everyone else was not.

FYI Leo @ Co Google just bought the company who made the Ogg Theora codec and has since made better ones (some suspect to allow that to be un-encumbered for HTML 5)

everyone is for net neutrality as long as they own/control the platform/ architecture
- echostreamer
Does anyone have a link for that iPhone streaming video site?
- Aaron Dyer
with twitter, news site (NYTimes.com) are as archaic as physical paper was yesterday.
- echostreamer
i dont hear about news at work until 2-3 days after i saw it on twitter. cable+news=fail
- echostreamer
Yeah the MyTouch hit on tuesday. Supposedly Samsung has the i7500/Galaxy coming out (also on tMobile) in either Sept or October though I don't remember which.

hi listing and watching from georgia the buffering prossses is jerkey on the mack 2 day

bufferings better now on the leo show thax

First I have to get an alternate to see Leo, then my satellite dish goes out due to weather; one of those days, I guess. Leo's show probably got popular fast due to the twitter, facebook outages. I think we need duplication of these services, and maybe go back and forth between FriendFeed and twitter as necessary when one goes out due to attack. Not just for competitive reasons.
- heretic_twit
Gina: sorry, the problem with what you're asking for (having TweetDeck cache Tweets and push them to others while Twitter is down) is that Twitter's Firehose Feed' agreement forbids doing just that. Great show, by the way.
- Robert Scoble
i was wondering why it wasent working
- daveccorey
twitter still down at least on my computer. Or down again one or the other...
- James Hampsten
hi from georgia my twiters still down 4 a worlds record longest time
- daveccorey
and its tues i still have no twitter in georgia
- daveccorey
Leo thanks for starting this great show. Gina is great.
- Mark Nelson
Just listening to Gina talk about distributed Twitter, I can't help but think if we'd all just adopt Simple Microblogging Transport Protocol, we'd all be OK... http://www.kensheppardson.com/2008...
- Ken Sheppardson
Leo, you should update the Google calendar for TWIG.
- David Schmidt
Thanks for the reminder David. Starting Saturday, we record TWig at 2:15p Pacific/5:15p Eastern
- Leo Laporte
aaron - on the http://live.twit.tv page you should see a button that says open video in popout window - it's centered on the bottom of the video window (kind of hard to see)

although it would serve only to confirm that no one reads my stuff ha!
- Aaron Dyer
just tuned in. loving the conversation i.e. "a blog post is an asset" been thinking alot about that lately and how most of my content is been more and more on someone else's social app. would love to have a distributed wordpress/blogger/etc social platform. maybe google connect has potential?
- Zeb Palmer
Google's index seams to be getting much nearer to being in real-time - this post is already in the results. http://bit.ly/D0Lai
- tw1
I think they just observe a few important sites like FB, FF, Twitter and so on more often. To index the whole web in that fashion might be just not possible with today's tools.
- David Schmidt
I really like this show guys! Really good.
- Devon Govett
I Wonder with all the use of social sites and rss readers.. do we really use google as much?
- Aaron Dyer
Aaron, I still use google for search, quite a bit, and although I haven't been using GReader all that much lately, I plan to move all the twitter feeds I follow into it for archival search
- Cornelius Toole
I'm sorry! How do you find FF difficult to use?
- MarK
thats a great idea Cornelius, i think you've just found me my Sunday project
- Aaron Dyer
I let go of being bothered by having +1000 items in several of my feeds a long time ago. I have too many feeds to clear them out everyday(and it not be my job). I hope I can use the google search infrastructure to find relevant stuff in the pile and every now again I just skim the most recent stuff.
- Cornelius Toole
I'd love to see a feature in GReader which recommends blogs according to a single blog I'm subscribed to, much like Amazon's "what people also buy" feature.

I'll help you folks out. Steve: "If we can just get track back, then the gesture economy will finally take hold" Arrington: "Mufflers again, let's talk sports cars." Doc: "Is VRM a muffler or sports car?" Jason: "This show was sponsored by Building 43." Scoble: "Heehee."
- Matt Terenzio
I've listened to several back episodes of Gillmor Gang over the last few days. They were surprisingly good. Steve comes across as cranky, yes, but underneath he is usually making valid points.
- Laura Norvig
Agree with Laura, I miss the gang, steve tells it like he sees it and doesn't just jump onto the newest thing just because its new .. Bring back the Gang !
- Aaron Dyer
Best part of GG were the inevitable meltdowns every few weeks
- Mark
Give the order Scoble Sir! I'll have their... well... keyboards!! :P
- Özgür D. Cyric
Sometimes meltdowns need to happen to re-focus us all, strong and differing opinions are a GOOD thing
- Aaron Dyer
GG reminded me of an open mic night where everyone ends up playing 12-bar blues.... but sometimes you get a jazz guy in there that mixes things up a bit.
- Jay Cuthrell
Chris, I listened to 3 episodes from March. I'm just going through all the ones that happen to be on my iPod that I never had a chance to listen to.
- Laura Norvig
"The Scoble Mob(ile)" would make a neat logo and imply the disjointed and anywhere anytime nature of the "mob"
- Jay Cuthrell
The Gillmor Gang was the best show on the internet in my opinion. I miss it tremendously. Scoble Gang wouldn't be the same even though he still could make a good show. You need Steve at the helm to set the tone.
- Wo
so wheres the link to "The Scoble Mob"? Who's going to be on today?
- BryanSchuetz
I'm sure Leo would let you put it on the TWIT Robert
- BryanSchuetz
Yeah I agree GG was great, and I miss it alot. Scoble is great and was great addition to the gang. But not many can do what Steve did so well. Cut into the bone of the conversation with just one "cranky" rant. I'm pretty sure I would subscribe to a scobleshow also though. I wasn't fond of the change over to Twit, it kinda changed the dynamics of the show. Nothing bad about Leo, the show just wasn't the same with him co holding the reins.
- Rasmus Lauridsen
I for one, would love to see Leo [redacted] arrington in the mouth with his mighty "mob", over and over again
- Michael Thomas
In a few days I think Arrington is going to announce he worked with twitter and the police to track the hacker down.
- Mark
Steve's a sweet teddybear with strong opinions...just not a great fit on TWiT. I'm sure a new iteration will appear when the time is right.
- Web Pixie
I guess nature does not abhor a vacuum.
- Jim Posner
FriendFeed on a Sunday morning, very early, so early in fact my ass is still in bed and not listening to a podcast isn't the same without @stevegillmor's gang :P
- Johnny
What does Gillmor do for a day job? I mean, he posts maybe 1 article a week, a couple of tweets. What does he *do* ?
- Mark
He comes up with ideas for the schmuck with the puppets
- Dave Winer
I wonder sometimes how Tech people make their living. I mean, your financial past Dave is known (you made some nice bucks back in the day), Leo Laporte has his network, Scoble has his paying gigs with rackspace, but the likes of Feldman and Gillmor and a bunch of others make me wonder what pays the bills!
- Mark
Heck, Shel Isreal has a new book coming out! baby needs a new pair of shoes
- Mark
Mark: Steve Gillmor's RealTIme Crunchup had 500 people at it. You don't think he figured out how to get paid for that? And why do you need to get paid to talk on the Internet? I did this before I got paid for it. I'm just very fortunate to have found a way to do it all the time.
- Robert Scoble
anybody know how blocking works on friendfeed? Is it bidirectional or does it merely silence the idiots?
- Steve Gillmor
Steve: if you block someone you no longer can see their stuff and they can no longer see your stuff. The rest of us are unaffected.
- Robert Scoble
Actually, that's not completely true, because the folks you block can't see you anymore they can't comment on your stuff, so we'll notice that over time your items have fewer and fewer idiots commenting on them. That will increase your personal brand. On the other hand, if you block someone who has a lot of engagement (an idiot like me, for instance) then you'll see the artifacts of their interactions with other people.
- Robert Scoble
I'm sure that if you did a Gillmor Gang, you would all say that Chrome OS is in fact Android 2.0 and it's going to kill Microsoft, Intel and Apple.
- Charbax
Charbax: whenever a blogger says something kills something else that just means it's more interesting than something else. Nothing more. So, if that's true, you'd be right.
- Robert Scoble
ok, but isn't new tech supposed to sometimes really cannibalize established tech. If Google OS powers $100 laptops with ARM processors all of a sudden, then who's going to buy Windows/OSX stuff anymore. And how can the old Silicon Valley giants then still make money.
- Charbax
Charbax: it's pretty rare that new stuff actually "kills" old stuff and when it does it takes years to happen. Heck, the Web has been killing AOL now for about a decade and AOL still is around. I don't think Google Chrome will get me to stop buying OSX or Windows but it could change my behavior and that is interesting.
- Robert Scoble
All major laptop OEMs showed 50 sub-$200 ARM netbook designs at Computex last month, I filmed them all http://techvideoblog.com/... (my Computex videos were on Engadget a dozen times in that week). I think Chrome OS is actually just Google optimizing the browser for all these new cheaper embedded Linux laptops.
- Charbax
scoble's definition may work for him, but when I say something's dead, it has a specific meaning -- and it's not that is no longer interesting. RSS has always been and continues to be interesting. But it's still dead.
- Steve Gillmor
Charbax: right. Hi Steve. Someday I'll get the Gillmor translation guide figured all out.
- Robert Scoble
I miss the Gillmor Gang! The industry is very dull without it...
- Michael Pinto
start with Saturday Night Live first 2 seasons
- Steve Gillmor
Diego: I figure Gillmor Gang will come back right around the same time we stop talking about it. :-)
- Robert Scoble
I disagree, Arrington's a tool and the perfect foil on Gillmor Gang. Renew it, intact. Saturdays on FF, TC & Twitter are a bore now...
- Thom Kennon
They will be back Just will take time
- Aaron Thorn
That's worth elaborating. Respectively, I hear the same broad sweeping, provocative statements that don't include anything in support of that statement as to why. I understand it's the only way to make a point effectively in a short window of time but I've heard too many people say "RSS is Dead" without much to support that claim/point of view. It's like someone trying to drive fashion.
- Benjamin Taylor
The iphone represents less than 1% of the global mobile phone market, yet Apple amasses $20 Billion treasury, so I guess you are right. it'll probably take them at least a few years to burn up all that money unless they quickly fire most of their 85 thousand employees.
- Charbax
Diego, yep. It keeps things interesting and makes the less toolish look (and act) more brill.
- Thom Kennon
Is there any way to listen to the old shows?
- Robert D'Alesio
Robert, you should wait for next lineups which include Nvidia Tegra and ION chipsets that run 1080P videos smoothly. Otherwise, Asus 1000HE is definitely one of the best nowadays, specially in terms of battery life.
- Nir Ben Yona
I love OS X on my MSI Wind, plus the battery options are very nice to have in a netbook.
- Aaron Dyer
1000HE works fine for me---thrilled about battery life, but haven't moved to OS X on it. You *know* if you buy something, something better is announced the next day...
- elspmdi
I have the MSI Wind and am very happy with it.
- Gunnybear ™
I'm waiting for the Asus 1005HA (out this week) - the fully loaded version. I believe the Dell Mini is still the easiest for running OSX tho
- Andy Sternberg
from fftogo
I was personally looking at the HP Mini (fully loaded, bluetooth, the works), and Newegg is having a sale for $329.00?
- Sam Ferry
depends. some people hate the msi wind. i got it because at the time it was one of the *only* ones that you could overclock. some people get other kinds for the keyboard size but does not have the overclock feature. my msi wind runs the default xp, windows 7, and os x. i have unbuntu on usb and backtrack 4 on sdhc. it's a great little machine for the price with great battery life. it...

- Patphelan
Robert, the new Lenovo IdeaPad S12 with ION chipset is already up for pre-order and scheduled for shipment on July http://bit.ly/kXgMw. Other netbooks with Tegra chipsets are expected to make a debut on Q4.
- Nir Ben Yona
What is the benefit of a Netbook over, say a 13-inch MacBook or an iphone?
- Curt Mercadante
the boing boing link jerry gave shows the msi wind works well with it. however, there's a hack for the audio i/o -albeit not very elegant but they are working on it and it's getting there.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
Curt: price over Macbook. Screen resolution and flexibility over iPhone.
- Robert Scoble
You can put OSX on the 1000HE? I'm posting this with a 1000HE, and I must say I really love the device.
- Robert James Massey
Curt, I was considering the MacBook Air and asked Robert for alternatives. Have iPhone. Want keyboard, practical screen and multi-tasking.
- Conor Ogle
curt, a netbook isn't for everybody. i have an iphone, netbook, and macbook pro. you take your netbook when you need to travel on the go but don't want to lug around your primary 3+ grand laptop, risking theft or damage. it has a bigger screen and capabilities than the iphone. they are supposed to complement your existing computing experience -not necessarily replace anything.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
The Dell Mini 9 is supposed to be the most Hackintoshable netbook.
- nick
tbh I've never been a fan of the atom processor. It made no sense in buying the equivalent of a 5yr old centrino. A beefed up battery on a centrino benchmarks the same as a netbook. However as others have suggested the ION chipset is the way to go if you want to offload DXVA videos on to it.
- Shaf
Ive had the HP Mini 1000, The Acer Aspire one, and the 1000HE. The 1000HE is hands down the leader.
- Kyle Nas
shaf, it would be interesting to see what happens when the dual core atoms come out in q4 and how they will stand in regards to the ion. will they integrate the ion some how, or will they compete? the tech is getting better.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
Use my 1000HE now as I write this and I love it. It's great as an extra especially when travelling, but I would not choose it as my main computer. The screen & keyboard is too small for bigger tasks and more hours of work. That said, I do use it a lot! Great when in the kitchen and you need a recipe from Google, or just need to check your email in the living room & don't want to go upstairs to the mainframe station :-)
- Morten Blaabjerg
sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq indeed - I'll just wait in the meantime ;)
- Shaf
Morten, I actually replaced my touch screen HP with my 1000HE and just hook it up to a 22" monitor when I'm at the house. The ability of the computer to quickly change resolutions makes it even better. Although I am preparing to buy a Mac soon. So... Where can I find details on OSXing my 1000HE? Maybe I should google it.
- Robert James Massey
robert scoble, (i just saw your question up there), the ions are supposed to come out near the end of summer. the dual cores by intel released at october at the earliest -meaning netbooks a month after that.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
I run OS X on my Acer Aspire One, works wonderfully and software update works too!
- James
We've had excellent results with the $200 Acer Aspire One's. They make an awesome PBX platform.
- Ward Mundy
PIAF on an Aspire One is just hilarious. Ward gets bored easily.
- Jerry Schuman
I wish that boingboing chart had a video column.
- John Bachir
Does anyone have heat issues on netbook(running macos x) particularly when running flash?
- Ashish
Curt: Ever since I bought my iPhone, I rarely use my Asus netbook anymore. The iPhone effectively replaced it for me. However, when away from home, there times when my netbook is needed. I just wish the video was faster. That is my biggest netbook complaint.
- Mark Davidson
from BuddyFeed
Ward, off topic... PIAF in VirtualBox on Mac mini. Along with a few other virt machines.
- Jerry Schuman
sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq ION is just the platform there are already Atoms using the platform albeit mini-ITX and smaller(see the Zotec boards). Mixed reviews so far, think it can handle 720p but struggles at 1080p and you can forget blu-ray
- Shaf
good question, I've been wondering the same thing or considering the Ipod touch
- freedom fighter mom
from twhirl
shaf, the zotac is a mini itx motherboard i've being drooling over for some time. in regards to ion netbooks, the ideapad is the first *netbook* to have ion and plans to be released in a month or two... hence my safe estimate of august for the netbook: http://www.liliputing.com/2009... :)
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
ah, i see the ion netbook (from my previous link) has been now set back to october. this is around a month or two when the atom dual cores plan to be released. both attempt to trackle the prob of smooth hidef playback 720p, not quite 1080p or i yet.
- sɹǝɥʇɐǝɟʞɔɐןq
i hear that Dell mini 9 is the best netbook to run OSX on. I just bought one and going to attempt it.
- drinktale
Netbooks still Taboo in my opinion, until Neo platform from nVidia shows up. Without decent 3D, I don't call it a computer...Even iPhone has better 3D capabilities than current netbooks...
- Adi Rabinovich
I am very much considering it, but money's tight! :|
- Geoff Schultz {TF}
No, as it would cost me way too much now as I bought the 3G a year ago. Disappointed. :(
- Steve de Mena
Nope, mid contract and way too much for the upgrade
- Tom Searing
from twhirl
yes, but waiting for the Jul 11 anniversary when I bought it to make the switch. otherwise iphone 3G S will cost too much
- Ernie Oporto
from twhirl
Nope, because AT&T's non-qualified upgrade is too harsh. If I could upgrade the 3G I bought in January for $199, then I might consider it.
- Jandy
Nope. The UK upgrade path is crazy for current 3G owners. :(
- Aaron Dyer
from Alert Thingy
yes absolutely. i am still using the original iPhone, which I have to say still works great for being two years old. I didn't see that much of an advantage to upgrading when the first 3G came out, but now there seems to be enough new features that it makes it worth it.
- Jennifer
@Jandy AT&T's upgrade policy is no different than any other cell carrier's policy, in making you wait 2 years before upgrading for a greatly reduced price. I am excited that they're subsidizing at all actually; when I bought my original iPhone there wasn't any subsidizing and I paid full-price *and* was locked into a 2-year contract. If you ask me, their policy now is a lot better than it was then.
- Jennifer
Just got my 3G for work going to try to upgrade. Not to fussed though.
- Jason Remnant
I would buy it now if I was upgrade eligible. Oh well, gotta wait until December. We'll see if it is a big deal. Personally I wouldn't want 3Gers to comfy, and get 'em while the upgrade itch is hot.
- sailorj
No because they aren't available with Verizon :(
- Adam Martin
No. Will wait for the next iphone when my two year contract comes up for renewal. iPhone 3GS features and price are not worth it for me.
- Carlos
Yes. I have a first gen iPhone, the better battery life, autofocus camera, video, gps and compass are enough & being faster also
- Shannon Clark
No. Like many others, I'm mid contract. I'd pay $299 for the update, but not $399 or $499 depending on the model.
- Michael Groner
upgrade price not worth it for features i get with quickpwn
- Tyler Gillies
from email
Tyler - you are just flat out wrong. A jailbroken iPhone won't have: autofocus camera (of higher quality), builtin compass, be ready for next gen data networks (up to 7mps), have a faster processor & better battery. I'm upgrading from a 1st gen so the diff is big if I had a 3G it might be closer
- Shannon Clark
i was mostly using hyperbole. those features just aren't worth the upgrade price to me.
- Tyler Gillies
Just checked, I have to wait until February. Aarrrgh!
- Paul Ring
Not available on my provider, another year on contract. Also starting a new job, so will probably get a company mobile (Crackberry). So probably not getting one any time soon.
- David Wright
from twhirl
Data plans for AT&T are still keeping me from getting into smartphone craze...yet I may be cheap.
- Manuel Mas
Here in the UK if you have the existing Iphone 3G you probably have at least 6 months of contract to run - bit of a rollercoaster - June 19th then damn January 2010 :(
- David W
Still no pricing here. T-Mobile haven't updated their tariffs, you can arrange to be notified on the 19th though... :-S
- David Wright
from twhirl
I preordered a 3GS last night from the online apple store. I still have a first ten phone, so thankfully I qualified for the lower pricing.
- Beau Liening
Yes, but when I can get the subsidized price (December)
- Martin Johnson
definitely not before the contract renewal is possible and who knows how I will feel about it then..
- David W
@Jennifer, I know, and I agree that the initial iPhone customers got screwed, too. But just because it's an industry standard doesn't mean I have to agree with it or like it. I haven't jailbroken because I was hoping to get a new handset with video support, but I may jailbreak instead in the meantime and pick up the new handset when my contract is up.
- Jandy
Planning to!! Features that are going to stay for a while from now. The problem in India is the price tag (31 & 36 grands). Looking forward to get one from the US. But then AT&T sucks there :O
- Praveen Vasudev
No - bad working out by o2 with regard to current 3g owners and the length of their contracts. I'm guessing they know hardcore Apple fans will buy out the remainder of their contract to get the new phone. That, I'm not going to do. I don't have £464 upfront to end my current contract and purchase the new handset.
- Charley M
It is really irritating me how much people are complaining about this. No one cared about their 2 year contract when the only thing to look forward to was a $30 flip phone. Maybe contracts are a dumb idea but that's the way it is. Get over it. You just received a subsidized phone a year ago. What makes you think you deserve one every single year? It's nothing that they're doing to...
- Jennifer
already brought 16G 3Gs set for delivery purchased it as soon as the Apple store opened back up
- Kim Landwehr
In 6 months or so. O2 have the same idiotic plan as AT&T. It would cost me a fortune to cancel and then sign a new contract.
- Roberto Bonini
Yes, my Blackberry/Verizon contract is up, and I've heard people love At&T so I'm switching.
- Greg Birch
Nope. I just purchased my 3G in November. I'll wait and see what Apple comes up with in the next 18 months to replace mine when my contract expires.
- Bryan Clark
AT&T sucks, and I am not willing to allow Apple to decide what applications can be put on my phone
- Chad Albert
I like AT&T but, I sure don't like their iPhone plan. Might get me a G1 or another HTC product that will take android.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Unfortunately, I just bought two iPhone 3Gs....so I'm going to wait a while. It seems every time I purchase an Apple product, they drop the price soon thereafter. Which is okay -- since I'm willing to overpay for Apple products but not pay discount for anything Microsoft at this point.
- Curt Mercadante
Nope - N97 unlocked for me. Even at ~$600 it's cheaper than the Iphone. Plus better camera, physical keyboard, FM transmitter, etc etc
- Mark Zip
I've been waiting to buy an iPhone and plan to make the 3GS my first one.
- Herb Hernandez
I'm getting the new iPhone 3GS because I have been delaying my buy decision for new cellphone waiting for Apple to drops it's new iPhone

- john crane
Perhaps it's the other 297million people in the country who are suffering.
- Ken Sheppardson
People disconnect their land lines and cable, and hang on the iPhone
- Francine Hardaway
Hey Jason... I Need a job... know anyone hiring?
- Fritz Wonnacott
Yeah, those are people who now have phone service for the first time ever.
- Ken Sheppardson
They have landlines, just those specific people didn't. ;-)
- Ken Sheppardson
fritz I can do 50 wpm on the iPhone. definitely serviceable
- Jamie
The size of the market for ANYTHING in India is huge.
- Francine Hardaway
Netbooks = people realizing they don't need 4GB, 3MHz, and a 1TB computer to browse the web and run Quicken.
- Ken Sheppardson
India has a shortage of everything -- including schools for all the people who want to be educated
- Francine Hardaway
Does the TWiT conversations group show up for anyone body in their list of subscribed groups in the Beta? It doesn't for me but it's there in the regular FF.
- Matthew
Dell Mini 9 are $50au in Australia with Vodaphone
- Alan Burchill
State of the art PC technology from 2005 (i.e. a 2009 netbook) is probably sufficient for what 90% of the population does on a computer
- Ken Sheppardson
Matthew beta friendfeed has a problem with Twit Conversations.,. it will not show up in the separate Groups catergory
- Greg
in a years time your specs are outdated ken. do you still call it a netbook then?
- Jamie
They should do what MS are going to do with Phone Store...
- Alan Burchill
twit-conversations here in Brazil, the price of an IPhone is outreageous!
- Daniel Wolff
from IM
the netbook for me is ALL about form factor. the hardware specs just happen to fall within those boundaries because MS doesnt allow more powerful HW for the cheap XP license they sell the OEMs
- Jamie
But if Microsoft locked it down to only allow approved apps everyone would cry foul
- Alan Burchill
Everybody in the US and possibly Japan bought an NES, the rest of the world not so much.
- Ghworg
who is catherine hall and why is she on twit. is this twip now
- Zach Scott
Zach: This is TWiT, Catherine's one of five guests.
- Ken Sheppardson
Hulu is easier to use in the US. Torrents are still easier than getting around the geo-restrictions on hulu.
- Ghworg
only shows I toorent are bbc shows because bbc iplayer no workie in the US
- Gunnybear ™
just wondering. normally they a technology pundit on
- Zach Scott
It really kills me that people complain about the quest..... she said he covered here name and copyright sign on the photo, basically claiming it was their work.
- Michael King
Jason Calacanis completely blacks out international downloads. Hulu, ABC and the likes are _NOT_ available to non-US countries.
- Ian BERNARDO
definitely understand the bbc thing, I need primevil and robin hood
- Gary Prechtel
When Radiohead offered their last album s a "pay what you want" download, most people paid zero and just downloaded it
- Phil Essing
if you really wanted you could use a proxy server so you could get the bbc player to work for you
- Gary Prechtel
how is that different than bittorrent Gary?
- Gunnybear ™
I think the problem of digital piracy says more about the moral decline of society
- Phil Essing
I think we've passed a crucial point - the pay for movie/music model is finished
- Jamie
i think people just do not want to pay for music that is no good. Good music is still making money its things like britney spears that are most pirated
- Michael King
and i dont think it has anything to do with the moral decline of society
- Jamie
seems like most people who steal digital content do so because paying nothing is more attractive than paying anything
- Phil Essing
There's some price at which 95% of the people downloading music illlegally would pay. 2-5cents... right... there's a curve.
- Ken Sheppardson
its not I was just saying they have it on their website so I don't see a problem with getting from a torrent so we can watch it. Example is primevil is finally available to buy so I bought the first 2 seasons. When it comes to series tv I think it only promotes there shows.
- Gary Prechtel
twit-conversations how is Jay Leno, by the way? I´ve read somewhere he was in the hospital or something....
- Daniel Wolff
from IM
I watch movies via PPV or streaming from netflix now. I USED to download movies to watch them, but now that I have HDTV I want quality
- Gunnybear ™
when i hear people outraged at a song price-point of $1.29, when they claim $0.99 is more reasonable, I have to question how genuine they are being
- Phil Essing
Phil: Yeah, I'd say the demand curve's pretty flat in the $0.99-$1.29 range. Now if you cut that by an order of magnitude... it'd be a whole different ballgame.
- Ken Sheppardson
The problem is with the content owners. If they make it available through legitimate sources. The vast majority will pay.
- archaictree
gunny i agree i used to download movies then moved to netflix and haven't looked back. so much easy to pay for it then to hunt for a good copy on a torrent site
- Michael King
Jason: It ends up, like, on your blog though, right? :-)
- Ken Sheppardson
now back in the day I was a Napster FREAK, but there wasnt anywhere to PAY for digital downloads at the time
- Gunnybear ™
Sure, Ken, but I wonder how low the price can be while remaining profitable
- Phil Essing
Gary right now there isnt much streaming content, but wat is tehre looks great on my xbox 360
- Gunnybear ™
ken, i didn't know he put them up there... hmm
- Chris Heath
Thx Im waiting to switch until its better but worried about band caps if you watch a lot of movies
- Gary Prechtel
Ken, i have an xbox and never turn on the satelite anymore i almost always watch netflix.. good HD content if you have the bandwidth to support it
- Michael King
my parents will NEVER have a Twitter accounts
- Phil Essing
in the UK, ALL of the soccer games are on ustream
- Jamie
Gary funny story comcast was just here becuse they thought people were stealing our bandwidth cause of high usage, i had to explain that i live my life online. Streaming Video is running 24/7 here... they didnt like that to much
- Michael King
Jamie I think it's about the commercials. We even have TV timeouts for commercials. It is super annoying when you're actually at the game.
- Alex E Yockey
ad revenue for sports isn't as important here
- Jamie
How refreshing to hear your love of the internet and social media framed (or reframed) as a positive passion rather than a negative addiction. I'm SO glad to hear you talk about "loving it..."; how you "turn it on" when you get home from work. I'm the same way (altho' a consumer only, and not a producer). I don't need to berate myself for this (shared) passion...at least not to the same extent that I've been doing thus far; we ARE sitting in front seats to the "revolution," Leo. Thanks!
- Aviva Gabriel
One Question: Friendfeed Beta + 1 week. Have you all made the switch? I have a hard time switching from the old interface which I find more conversation centric (and makes me feel less in twitter)
- Edwin Khodabakchian
I never cared for the old one a whole lot.. this is much nicer
- Aaron
