"GodBlock is a web filter that blocks religious content. It is targeted at parents and schools who wish to protect their kids from the often violent, sexual, and psychologically harmful material in many holy texts, and from being indoctrinated into any religion before they are of the age to make such decisions. When installed properly, GodBlock will test each page that your child visits before it is loaded, looking for passages from holy texts, names of religious figures, and other signs of religious propaganda. If none are found, then your child is allowed to browse freely." - Eivind
Has anyone tried to download? According to MSNBC, as of 7/9/2010 the program "may turn out to be a well-executed hoax — despite download prompts, it's not yet available on the site. Originally, the site states, those who joined the GodBlock mailing list received 10 "awesome" stickers featuring the GodBlock logo: A red G covering a fist that is holding a lightning bolt (that could also double for ZeusBlock). Due to "overwhelming demand," 10 stickers now require a $5 donation, the proceeds of which "help with the overall development of this project." (Which, again may or may not be a hoax.)" http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id... More food for thought includes, what about teaching kids to think critically and realize for themselves that religious superstition is just that. - Jan
Hoax or not, I don't see atheists using this. You don't win a child for rationality by censoring the alternatives. And you can't indoctrinate a child with bible stories if they're allowed to probe them. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki... "the indoctrinated person is expected not to question or critically examine the doctrine they have learned." - Goran Zec
Serious atheists are serious :) - Eivind
@Jan, I thought the same re: not ever wanting such a thing. - Edward Zwart
