"Speaker: Ian Hickson As the HTML5 effort reaches its first big milestone -- feature completeness -- browsers are starting to implement it. It will be years before you can rely on HTML5 support when writing Web pages and applications, but you can start to experiment today to get a feel of what the new standard offers. This talk will explore some of the most recent implementations of HTML5 features." - abacab via Bookmarklet

Silent Hill: Homecoming is a very capable entry, maybe better than cynics were expecting, one that should please most fans of the series and anyone looking for a good scare layered with respectable storytelling. Homecoming fluctuates from moments of brilliance to shades of mediocrity, a bit of a junk food entry that may leave you hungering for something meatier. But less picky players, ones who don't mind the graphical quirks and sameness, will likely not take issue with the final product. There's plenty of frustration to be had and little in the way of traditional "fun," as the game's mechanics are starting to feel in need of a revamp, but Homecoming gets the job done. - abacab via Bookmarklet

T-Mobile Replaces G1 Anrdoid Phone “Soft Cap” With “Dunce Cap” | John Paczkowski | Digital Daily | AllThingsD

"These two policy excerpts aren’t all that different are they? “1GB” has been changed to “disproportionate amount of bandwidth.” And the reference to a reduction of data throughput to “50 kbps or less” has been rewritten as a general reduction in data throughput. No, they’re not different at all, really. In fact, with no hard number attached to it “disproportionate amount of bandwidth” could still mean a 1GB cap, couldn’t it? Clearly, that’s how T-Mobile viewed 1GB of data usage in the first place, right? So what’s changed?" - abacab via Bookmarklet

"The Florida Supreme Court has approved Judge Dava Tunis' recommendations for the permanent disbarment of John B. "Jack" Thompson, with no leave to reapply and $43,675.35 in disciplinary costs. The ruling is a step up from the enhanced disbarment that had been suggested by the prosecution, which would have forbidden him from reapplying for ten years. Thompson has 30 days to appeal the ruling before the disbarment is permanent." - abacab via Bookmarklet

DPI will destroy the freedom of the net, but it will be used under many guises - to enable QoS on a per application per user level, to provide targetted ads, to hunt down bad people (terrorists, paedos, pirates)... net result - internet steralised and all that was innovative and society changing will be stifled. All in the name of protecting you and company profits. DO. NOT. WANT! - alphaxion
as an extra question, why are we being held to randsom by such a tiny industry? the whole of the music industry so puny, how on earth do they get away with dictating to so many? I mean, apple on its own is worth more than the whole of the music industry! Maybe it's time we simply ignored the death cries of the big labels and encouraged the indies, who do get the net. - alphaxion
