Boston Dynamics has created BigDog the robotic pack mule which according to them is "the most advanced quadruped robot on Earth!" BigDog can carry four infantry backpacks while keeping its balance over different type of terrains. The following freaky video (28MB WMV) shows BigDog walking through mud, over slippery snow, over rocks, up a hill, and even keeps itself from toppling over when it's being kicked! BigDog stands about waist high, can carry 165 lbs (75 kg), can walk through most terrain and can always keep its balance. The on-board computer controls locomotion, monitors external & internal sensors and keeps itself balanced. A gasoline engine powers BigDog's hydraulic system for actuating the hydraulically controlled legs.

That one where whoever said that thing with that odd photo that the other guy didn't like and the thread was like huge and people kept commenting and bringing it to the top. Yeah, that one.

Birthday wish post: Anika was the first ever FFer to like my first ever post. So forgetting her, well, lets just say, is out of question. But more than that, she is a wonderful person and has a number of times made being on FF worthwhile. Truly, my best FFreind. :) Here's wishing her a rocking birthday. (PS: This is just a poorly drawn doodle)
Showered. Laundered. Vaccuumed. Did a first-pass cleaning of the kitchen. Made sure DVR was set for Walking Dead tonight. Readied forms for doc tomorrow morning.

Folded two loads of clothes from last night's laundry. About to eat a Tastykake! Our Walmart had some today! It's a pre-Festivus miracle!

Got up and went walking on the track at school. Now on our way home for coffee and leisure activities of some sort.

Slept in. Showered and groomed. Scratched the cats.

Haven't broken down in tears (yet!) and managed to make it to the library for my Sunday reference shift of doom.
- Jen
Up early, gave Joaquin his meds, breakfast, put kids summer clothes away for donating, put the rest away in drawers, rearranged their beds, sent some emails, lunch for everyone, and now FFing for a bit before continuing. :)

Woke up & made it home from my friend's in time to get my stuff together & get to the studio, survived a 1.5 hour workshop AND did somewhat okay picking up the Bluebird variation from Sleeping Beauty. Of course, I have since come home and crashed on the couch watching Doctor Who. >.>

- Anna Lynn M.
take what anna did and swap "watched 'sex and the city 2'" for "ran with the dog" and "took a nap" with "got a bunch of errands done."

@LB: what kind of Tastykake? I went grocery shopping and got DARK chocolate peanut butter KandyKakes. I also washed bed linens.
- m9m, Crone of FriendFeed
@m9m: Butterscotch Krimpets, regular chocolate peanut butter KandyKakes, and the chocolate cupcakes.
- LB shining
We haven't seen them in GA in years, m9m! I'm not sure what sort of fluke brought them here! The three I got were 3 of the 4 choices, the other being a coffee cake cupcake, I think?
- LB shining
Picked up dog toys. Started a load of towels.

I was churched Saturday night. Today, trip to borrow wheelchair, payment made in pumpkin doughnuts and muffins. To parents to drop off chair. Home for nap, back to parents to change dressings. Grocery store. Four loads of laundry done. Downloaded software upgrade for phone.
- Janet-The Bottley Crue
I got up. Most of my day has been about knitting, loving on dogs, and keeping the couch from floating away.
- Jyl Bit
didn't take someone else's life in a fit of rage.
- Joe The Sausage
Big Joe, any day you can say that is a pretty good day in my book.
- LB shining
Watched the Packers and shared a pizza with daughter, napped while she did her laundry, then dropped her back at school for her stint at the school library. Anytime I can spend an afternoon with my daughter is a good day! Packers win is just gravy.

Robots that learn from experience and can solve novel problems - just like humans - sound like science fiction. But a Japanese reasearcher is working on making them science fact, with machines that can teach themselves to perform tasks they have not been programmed to do, using objects they have never seen before.

In a world first, Osamu Hasegawa, associate professor at the Tokyo Insitute of Technology, has developed a system that allows robots to look around their environment and do research on the Internet, enabling them to "think" how best to solve a problem. "Most existing robots are good at processing and performing the tasks they are pre-programmed to do, but they know little about the 'real world' where we humans live," he told AFP.

"Sony Corp. says it is recalling 1.6 million LCD televisions globally because of a defect that can trigger overheating, smoke and melting parts. Sony says has received 11 such reports in Japan, though none involved injuries or damage beyond the TVs. The models subject to the recall in Japan are the Bravia KDL-40X5000, KDL-40X5050, KDL-40W5000, KDL-40V5000 and KDL-40V3000. The defective part — an inverter transformer used for LCD backlights — is also used in models sold overseas. But Sony says it has not received reports of similar problems."

If I had the face for it, I'd do a pixie cut IN A MINUTE. But when I do it, i look like a fatcheeked childmolesting man. Then I pile on the makeup to look like a girl, and look like a drag queen. Supershort hairs are not for me. I think, however, you would be adorable in it.
