"While I generally agree with your statement that "citizen journalist" is a misnomer, be careful not to discount the really great stuff being produced by non-professionals. Many are highly accomplished people in other fields and simply have neither to time nor the interest in making the sacrifices necessary to be a "journalist". Others are simply in the right place at the right time with sufficient equipment and enough know-how to capture an important moment. "Real" journalists scoff at their own peril. Your underlying attitude is hard to pinpoint, but if it is one of "we're better than that" (not suggesting it is, necessarily), you could be among those soon feeling the effects of a growing backlash. Regular people (who pay the professional's salaries) are tired of hearing lectures from media people. That is why they may be tempted to check a favorite amateur blog or their Twitter stream before clicking on a "major, professional" news site. How about embracing the non-professional..."
