so it doesn't work in safari? that seems pretty weak. I imagine some functionality MUST work in safari on iPhone. But in the end Google is a no APP company. so the web based wave will be the only option I imagine. Too bad too, I would love some Google Apps for the iPhone
- jason keath
It worked for me this morning but then went pretty sluggish and unusable this afternoon, crashing Safari on my iPhone a couple of times. (They were huge waves though, so perhaps that didn't help.)
- Tony Ruscoe
And I thought my post was long enough. I did think about it being inaccessible via iPhone. What's the plan? Add a Wave account there like GMail? I wonder how they could get this solved.
- Louis Gray
It works ok for me too. It's not the best experience, I'll give you that, but ok considering how new it is. I also think you have to give the wave team some credit for creating a mobile interface from day one.

Louis, I think they will make an app (or a 3rd party will) that would seem the best way to go.

I haven't tried on the iPhone yet. Hey anyone out there on wave come say hello abraun@googlewave.com :)
- Alan Braun
It does work; in fact, there's a public wave on the very subject. Search for with:public "Wave on the iPhone/iPod" to participate
- Andrew Terry
Pete : can you send me an invite plz email saysunnykapoor@gmail.com ...much appreciated
- Sunny (The Geek Lord)
Oh, I'm out of invites -- the system's very slow right now -- all of mine were gone three hours ago, but no one has gotten them yet...
- Pete Mortensen
Very good question, I'd add a follow up. Can this be automated or does it require a human brain to align these? Is there some way to normalize this data to do some automatic alignment?
- Alan Braun
IMHO all of the above. System metrics, application level metrics, most likely from many sources in different formats at different granularity. A single tech-biz metric doesn't exist, anything proposing to be one should be treated with suspicion.

leolaporte: I'm finally giving up on the AppleTV - it's too underpowered and crashy. Bought a Mac Mini to replace it. XBMC? Boxee? - http://army.twit.tv/notice...
Boxee has gained a lot of momentum lately. (It's XMBC based, no?) Another option is using Understudy http://code.google.com/p... to add streaming video to Front Row.
- Paul Reynolds
Underpowered, crashy, and HOT! What's the deal with that? We have almost given up on ours. We use it mostly for the music. Listening to music while our pics scroll by - but that's it really. We use NetFlix so we instant watch on the 360 and Blu-Ray on the PS3. I've thought about using an old mini or even putting the pictures and music on the PS3.
- Bill
Thanks - I've been trying to talk my wife into this and throwing away cable. I'll wait a bit longer.
- Dave Blankenship
This definitely helped as I've been thinking about Apple TV vs. Mini for a long time. Is there anything on the mini that will do netflix streaming?
- Alan Braun
With the amount of media already overwhelming me, I find my Roku amazingly reliable, great quality and cheap. I have enough on my list that I will not be able to watch in the next 3 years.
- Jamie Ginsberg
I like my AppleTV w/ Boxee - kinda does what I want. It is a bit hot, but not bad. Have thought about switching to a Mini, but not really sure what that would get me? I really like that the AppleTV sync's music and photos instead of just streaming them. I also like that my Harmony One remote works fine with it.
- felix
@Alan NetFlix streaming is available on the Mac now. My daughter's mini is not online, but I could check itlater.

@Dave - my son and I keep making the same argument but my wife wants the DTV for the NFL - we get most Skins games locally anyway but she is afraid to give it up :)

@Bill cool, I assume you mean stream netflix using a mini to the tv? if so, that is great...send me a replay @abraun on twitter
- Alan Braun
Yeah, my Boss Lady will leave me before I talk her into giving up her college football & DirecTV dish. :o) Actually, I was cable free/Netflix only for several years until I met her (wished I had all these options back then!)
- Paul Reynolds
Also: Understudy lets you watch Netflix Watch Instantly via Front Row as well. It's basically a stripped down, full screen web browser with remote support.
- Paul Reynolds
Planning to go the route of the Mac mini media server + Boxee in another week. Getting giddy just at the thought of it. Any suggestions for how to best control the mini w/o a keyboard & mouse? Apple Remote & Front Row don't seem to give you full access to all your media (e.g., shows already downloaded via iTunes). I've been considering using a VNC iPhone app (e.g., Jaadu).
- Andrei M. Marinescu
definitely Boxee, I have it setup on my Apple TV and it works like a charm. Do you have the latest version (0.9.10.5534) ? if not you should upgrade. The app store there is a great way to get more content directly pushed to you.
- Arnaud Fischer
I have Boxee and Front Row, but also have Hulu bookmarked as the home page for Safari so I can get through that. I also have an EyeTV hooked up to the Mac Mini which lets me use the device as a Tivo from the TV stations that come through the house. Boxee remote on the iphone, and there is a VNC for the iPhone but bluetooth keyboard and mouse are nice to have. Also have 2TB external drives hooked to the mini filled with DVD rips
- Andrew Leyden
Leo, absoluetly. I was mere minutes away from clicking 'buy' on my Apple TV, when I heard the news that Boxee was pulling Hulu off of it's network. That was a deal killer for me. Without Hulu, there is absolutely NO REASON to buy an Apple TV. Nevermind the fact that they will continue to send out firmware updates just to kill the Boxee service anyway. Mac Mini is the way to go. Too bad...

still no solutions for PPC Mac Minis. Looks like I'll have to ditch the poor old stinker and pony up for either an Intel Mac Mini or a hackintosh/ubuntu Dell Mini9

Online music may be a treacherous space right now, but there are still a handful of music startups that may be coming close to getting it right. One of our favorites is Lala, a streaming music site that allows users to put their digital music library in the cloud, which can then be accessed from any computer. And soon, they’ll be able to access every song they own from their iPhones too, without having to worry about storage capacity or syncing.
- Leo Laporte
I'll have to start playing with this, I've been using SimplifyMedia, but it sounds like this might be better.
