"In April, Jon Stewart joked that Ben & Jerry's would be introducing the flavor Chubby Hubbies in honor of Vermont legalizing same-sex marriage. Now, with marriage equality laws going into effect, it appears that the ice cream maker has taken a cue from the Daily Show host. It's changing the name of their popular flavor "Chubby Hubby" to "Hubby Hubby" for the month."

"FF connected me with new friends that I would never have known. FB connects me with old friends I could have done without. :(" - jcunwired http://friendfeed.com/jcunwir...
its actually quite easy to ignore someone you could have done without. *sigh*
- Sidney
Wow. Some of you apparently live terrible lives, filled with terrible people you seem unable to avoid, with the possible exception of this one website, I feel terrible about that.Of course, it's also possible you've wildly overestimated the difference between the people you know here and the people who know you in real life.
- Richard Lawler
I like this post, but I love all my social networks equally lol.
- Ryan Peach
Luckily, unlike so many here, I can keep using any website I want the same way I did before without devolving into a baseless bitchfest about what might happen someday somewhere. Or, I could have kneejerk reaction based on irrational fear. hmmm
- Richard Lawler
And you're very good at keeping your assumptions to yourself
- Bwana ☠
On the bright side, I can have a kneejerk reaction on FB and remove baseless bitches from my friends list. :)
- JCunwired
Except, they haven't really said anything. So thinking anything will or won't survive is premature. If Facebook perfectly met everyone's expectations there would be no need for war, sickness or evil deeds. Every online community is the same as every other one, if friendfeed, for whatever reason, doesn't keep doing what you want ti to do, you'll use something else. It hasn't ever been perfect and it never will be.
- Richard Lawler
I told you Richard. You're wrong. "Taylor and Cox say that the Friendfeed product will live on independently, and eventually Friendfeed will be merged into Facebook. But the Friendfeed team is not being kept whole. Some employees will now report to Cox, others to engineering head Mike Schroepfer. In my opinion that means, long term, the Friendfeed product itself is unlikely to be a big priority." http://www.techcrunch.com/2009...
- Bwana ☠
Well, you told me what techcrunch's opinion is, because that's what I wanted to know. Thanks! (there's sarcasm there)
- Richard Lawler
Ok let me slow it down for you. The team is splitting. The product is going to merge with Facebook. (No sarcasm)
- Bwana ☠
I can wholly identify with JC's statement.
- JA Castillo
Wow Bwana...you are really bitchy in this thread...I think Richard is making some good points. If you are having issues with the people you 'accept' on Facebook there really is only one person who you can point the finger. You. Facebook makes it quite easy to NOT get involved with any person.
- Sidney
I accept friends in Facebook because if they took the time to want to be friends with me, I feel obligated. I'm also not one to hurt a person's feelings by turning them down. That's what its like in a closed community like Facebook. Friendfeed is totally open - I can read, share, participate and like without having any obligation whatsoever to the people I interact with.
- JCunwired
It's interesting to see ho people use different networking sites - for example - I use FB for personal connections and family and the rest are business related.
- Graham Bunting
I like my friends, but you are definently right. I just got on friendfeed any advice on making friends?
- Ryan Peach
chaz, mine is not just shy.....its perfect and I used to love fb back then.

i'm relieved now, i just got a copy of my feeds, i'm great to go now, let the winds of change blow. ps, the reason it wasnt perfect was that i had to spend so much time manually building my rss-feeds up in the first place, :( but i'm cool, i've got a copy, :)

Not a fan of "birthers", but that statement is just about a textbook example of an argumentum ad personam. Ad Hominem is weak rhetoric. http://bit.ly/u9B4z
- Alex Scrivener
Alex: No, for two reasons: (a) consider the source and the promoters of the birth certificate nonsense and (b) where's the equal disgust over McCain's place of birth (Panama Canal Zone).
- Steven Perez
Stephen, "consider the source" IS ad hominem, that is precisely what the term means. (b) is, I believe, a Red Herring: http://bit.ly/3ax7rG
- Alex Scrivener
Stephen, the presenter of an argument is irrelevant to the validity of the argument. Ad hominem "consists of replying to an argument or factual claim by attacking or appealing to a characteristic or belief of the person making the argument or claim, rather than by addressing the substance of the argument or producing evidence against the claim." If these guys were blood-drinking Nazis,...

- Alex Scrivener
Given that Obama has already released a copy of his birth certificate for everyone to see, the fact that the birthers continue to pretend he is not a legitimate president suggests that they are impervious to logic, and therefore arguing over logical fallacies is a waste of time.
- John (bird whisperer)
John, logic is never a waste of time. Spock would be very disappointed!
- Alex Scrivener
Alex: you honestly believe that birthers are not know-nothing racists? Because, I've stated before, the same arguments could have been made against McCain, yet anyone with half a functioning brain could see that this is a specious argument. Given the depth of their belief, what other cause can this insanity be attributed to?
- Steven Perez
@Steven, Not at all. I think most of them are. I just think that it is irrelevant. .Ad hominem attacks lead to sloppy arguments. They are weak rhetoric, and weaken your position. They can quickly become a default response, and lead to a lowering of the tone of all conversation. I dislike them.
- Alex Scrivener
That's where we disagree, Alex. I think that racism is the root cause, not a by-product. Once one believes in a core value so strong, it matters little what the end argument is.
- Steven Perez
from IM
While ad hominem is not a logically sound argument that can be relied on 100%... it can be a handy heuristic. I mean, yes, it is technically possible for know-nothing racists to be right on something, possibly just by accident, but OTOH as a rule of thumb it certainly saves a lot of time to just make the safe assumption, especially with something as insane as the birther argument.
- Andrew C (✓)
Bumpity bump. When did Obama get his passport? HOW did he get a passport? Was it during the Bush administration? And by that I mean, why does Bush hate America?
- Ayşe E.
I understand that, Cecily. And I'm saying that the birther position is so absurd that it doesn't deserve to be treated as a legitimate argument. We can have honest debate about issues, but when one side's argument has crossed over to Koo-Koo Crazy Land, we are no longer having a debate - we're arguing about the price of tea on Tatooine. At which point, I no longer feel compelled to have a rational debate with said knuckleheads. At that point, "screw you, you racist bastard" is the only proper response.
- Steven Perez
So, someone posted a picture of a naked man here on FriendFeed and now everyone is in an uproar. Let me introduce you to two very important features: "block" and "hide."
I agree. Also people need to get over it.
- Oracio
You should be able to turn off images from FoaF. I have no idea who victor gnaata is or why he would post a picture of a chopped off dick, but I didn't ask to see it, and I had to see it, before I could block it.
- Richard Lawler
As usual. It's not the naked man pic that matters, but the fact that someone dared to post it.
- andrei_c
Richard: I agree, it would be great to have a "not safe for work" feature.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
A lot of people here don't believe in using the block feature, which is something I fail to understand (why someone wouldn't use it)
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
If we can turn off comments we should be able to tell everyone else that some item contains objectionable content.
- Robert Scoble

Jannnifer I block early and often. It keeps me sane.

from iPhone
I think the point that's eventually going to be made is that it's considered polite to not put NSFW material in their main feed but to place it in the appropriate room.
- caj needs a haircut
LOL! Where is the pic of the naked man? (no homo...lol)
- Rah-PM 2012
This is my living room. If someone walked naked into my house I would kick them out.
- Robert Scoble

Mike: I am sure it is, but you won't come over my house naked.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
Robert what if someone posts a nude pic of you. Wouldn't you ask FriendFeed to delete that content? In which case you're actually asking to apply an "implicit rule"? And yes, I know about hiding and blocking :)
- directeur
Robert, Sure! but otherwise, you'd ask, and it would be your *right* and when we're talking about rights, we implicitely talk about "rules"
- directeur
There needs to be a work safe mode, hide and block are good, but they are both available after the fact
- Kim Landwehr
Directeur: it depends on whether I had an expectation of privacy.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
Robert, I wish I'd learned to block early and fast - it would have saved me a lot of grief here on friendfeed, as a few people ruined my experience here and I'm still slowly recovering. *Sigh*
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
I keep the live feed rolling throughout the day at work and it would be killer if something like that came up on my screen. Bad etiquette!
- Brian Bufalo
What? Naked pictures on the Web? I'm shocked.
- Patrick Giblin
So I went looking for interesting naked men and all I found was a still from a film. old news, watched, it, nothing to comment on. I'm guessing the majority of the people in an uproar are US based?
- Rachel Clarke
I missed the naked man pic. There was one person who posted a bunch of barely clothed ladies. I got bored with seeing all the pics of ladies and since I thought he was still a good guy, I just hid his FF posts. I do however block mean-spirited people.
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
Stuff like this is the reason I can't use regular FF at work...

I think it's impolite to post NSFW images on the main feed. It's always work hours somewhere in the world too. Actually a couple of times I was so shocked at what I saw that I froze and didn't hide it fast enough :(

Why does everyone have to continue on with this? It was a bloody Mistake. I'm human.
- Matt Ruiz
Matt - why would you complain in the thread of a picture you don't want to see, thereby sharing it with everyone who subscribes to you?
- Richard Lawler
What don't you get Matthew? Why would you share something NSFW with the people who subscribe to you, unless you're the kind of person who shares that stuff on friendfeed.
- Richard Lawler
Matthew - which part don't you get? Commenting on the post reshares it to everyone who follows you. Do you not understand how friendfeed works? If you don't want to share the post, you can't comment on it. It's very simple.
- Richard Lawler
You're either unable or unwilling to accept that someone might not want to reshare a post they themselves don't like, I don't know which it is, but you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. I don't understand how someone could not understand this concept. Do you know what happens when you comment on a thread?
- Richard Lawler
Whatever you want to call it, you're being willfully ignorant of what I'm saying. Your ignorance of how friendfeed works and why people use it the way they do isn't my problem.
- Richard Lawler
Interesting that naked photos of women don't elicit the same response.
- anna sauce
Richard, I wouldn't mind if someone shared a photo of a dick (not that i'd enjoy it, I wouldn't) on friendfeed, it's just the fact that I never intended for this to happen. Posterous had Auto posted it, to both Twitter and FriendFeed, so either way it was bound to show up. Why it showed up was an accident. I only meant it to be viewed on Posterous not on Twitter, nor FriendFeed.
- Matt Ruiz
Matt - I'm not addressing why or how it popped up, I didn't see it in my feed because I don't know you, until you subbed me just now and it showed up in my email (thanks for that btw, I love that movie.) I'm just talking about why the way friendfeed works isn't helpful for this kind of thing.
- Richard Lawler
Matthew - what you see when you search for the word penis isn't my problem, and i'm not spreading anything. In case you didn't notice, I didn't start this thread.
- Richard Lawler
I'm kind of trying to follow the thread here but lost it. Perhaps the problem is Scoble posting about it? 45K fans can't be wrong.
- anna sauce
So, do you understand why someone would not want to comment on the original thread or not? It's a real simple question you've been unable to answer so far. You've got plenty of time, clearly. If you don't like all the penis threads you're seeing, you probably sub to the wrong people, I only see this one.
- Richard Lawler
It's easy to make the mistake of not realizing or forgetting that something will automatically pop up over here. It's happened to me before (not w/ pics, but Disqus comments - nothing bad, just didn't make sense once over here). There are so many services that can be imported over to FF that one could quite easily forget about something unless you review it and keep it fresh in your mind.
- Jannifer @wordsforliving
DeVries: you are wrong. I would NEVER engage on objectionable content because that spreads the objectionable content.
- Robert Scoble
from iPhone
Well, thanks for sharing! Is there a problem with people getting into an uproar? Someone obviously was lacking attention. They gave 'em what they wanted? Why are you in an uproar that people are in an uproar??? Just curious. :)
- Givememychocolatedotorg
I'm still in shock to find that they had male full frontal nudity in a movie! It's about time. I totally believe NSFW content should not be posted on the main feed. We do have to accept that occasionally something will slip through. A lot of companies are blocking social networking sites. Right or wrong, they do want you to do your job. If it's is such a risk for you, possible you shouldn't be on ff at work anyway. Just sayin'

Dear Scoble et al: I don't care who posted a penis on FF (Matt, seriously, I never meant for you to catch flack about this. It happens, and I hope I've clarified that my ire isn't directed to you *at all*.) Scoble, the naked man has to enter the room before you can block him :(

I hope FF administration sees things this way, hide and block is actually a very simple solution and a truly excellent one. This is sort of how censorship got out of hand at Flickr though. Started with stuff like this and then the next thing you know they had a whole group dedicated to stamping out anything potentially offensive on the site ending up deleting entire accounts and thousands of photos willy nilly because they had a bad hair day instead. It's easy for people to overreact to stuff like this.

Ahhhh it's sold out. Looks like we'll have to buy tickets for tomorrow instead.

Planning this movie to be my 5 y.o.'s first-ever theater experience. Maybe next weekend.
- Hutch Carpenter
The glasses we got for "Bolt" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth" were pretty much indistinguishable from generic ray-ban style sunglasses. http://friendfeed.com/kshep...
- Ken Sheppardson
Haven't seen Up yet, but as far as Bolt and JthCothE go, the effects were kinda gratuitous in JCE, but in Bolt the 3D is just a natural part of the film, and really does add something without really taking anything away. I think modern animation/rendering and 3D are a natural.
- Ken Sheppardson
Anyone know this...are 3D glasses required? Or does the movie look fine without them? I could see my son not wanting to wear them the entire movie.
- Hutch Carpenter
Saw it last night. Very enjoyable! Definitely recommend.
- Herb Hernandez
If it is played in an IMAX theater Hutch, I believe glasses are required.
- Brandon Mendelson
Depends on the show. We saw both Bolt and JCE in non-IMAX theatres, but the shows were specifically 3D. If you're in a 3D showing and don't have glasses, or take them off, you'll see slightly offset ghost images. The 5yr old I was with probably wore his for 1/3 of the film, but didn't really complain about the image with them off. Not that he'd really know how to explain that he didn't like it...
- Ken Sheppardson
I don't think they're trying to trick anybody into thinking the "convenience charge" is to cover costs. Buying online means (1) you don't have to wait in line and (2) you're sure to get a seat. That's convenient. It has value. So they charge for it.
- Ken Sheppardson
I just use the electronic kiosk, it's never got a line. Just a touch screen interface and I'm done.
- Eric
"Why should a business make their customers pay for convenience?" -- Isn't that sorta one of the fundamental principles of business?
- Ken Sheppardson
And are you talking about the same McDonald's founded on the idea that it's more convenient than a sit-down restaurant or cooking at home?
- Ken Sheppardson
Hutch, the first half of the movie might not be good for the kid. There were some kids in the theater when I watched it, and their attention was drifting, I don't think they understood what was going on. Also some of the early themes are a little heavy -- it might be better if they didn't understand. Just a warning up front, this might not be the movie you think it is. :-)
- Dave Winer
I think we're going to just have to agree to disagree, Davis, on whether or not pricing based on value to the customer--independent of cost--is a "scam".
- Ken Sheppardson
We just got back. I thought the movie was really good. All the kids liked it. It's definitely better in 3D. You have to wear the glasses or the screen looks ghosty and it's hard to see the movie. That said, my 4, 6, 7, and 8 year olds all had no problem wearing the glasses. They charged $1 extra per ticket to buy online but yesterday when we went it was sold out and we couldn't see it....

Total cost for the 6 in our family was $60 tickets, $1 parking, $15 for popcorn/soda/dibs icecream (we all shared and they give free refills on the large soda and large popcorn) = $76. Feels expensive but it's a good family memory. The kids and mrsth really enjoyed it as did I.

Anything scary for the 4yrold? Did he/she enjoy it? Is the plot overly complex? Considering taking my almost 4yrold, but not sure.

There's a few scary parts. It's rated pg. I didn't think it was too scary though and Kate (our 4 year old seemed to like it)

But not quite 1:1 with the 20,622 balloons in Up. :)
- Mike Reynolds
it was good, saw it today with my 8 yr old. the first 15 minutes are knock down best piece of animated movie-smithing ever. i got tired watching the old guy haul his house around. 3D rocks.
- Thom Kennon
I saw it earlier today also, great film. Cristo, I found that they advertise it as 3D. If the listing doesn't say one way or another it's a standard screening. I believe theaters need special equipment to show 3D films, so most won't have it. But if you can see it in 3D it's worth it. If not, it's still worth seeing.
- Bluesun 2600
Fandango lists showtimes as if they were two different films: "Up" and "Up in Disney Digital 3D"
- Ken Sheppardson
Dave - thanks for the heads up on the first half of the movie. One thing Finding Nemo and Cars had was pretty quick-paced action throughout.
- Hutch Carpenter
BTW, Hutch: Bolt is similar to Nemo and Cars in that sense. I really can't recommend it highly enough.
- Ken Sheppardson
Bolt? Hadn't heard of it. Will check it out though Ken. Thanks!
- Hutch Carpenter
I saw it without 3D, and it was still very good.
- Anne Bouey
I tried Flock from Firefox but I'm back to 'old' Firefox w/plugins. Just can't beat it IMHO.
- Molly
The most popular plugin on Firefox is Adblock (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US...). Google's core business is serving ads. I think Google is going to drag its feet on plugins as long as they can to avoid AdBlock plus.
- Atul Arora
I felt that way at first, but I have not regretted switching to Chrome at all.
- Brandon Mendelson
@Atul - there is no feet dragging on plugins, I promise. : ) Don't believe me? Come hear Aaron Boodman himself talk about "Developing Extensions for Google Chrome" at Google I/O: http://code.google.com/events...
- DeWitt Clinton
Dewitt - good to hear no feet dragging on Google's part. I can understand how Adblock Plus extension can be detrimental to Google's business. Maybe Google should have an AppStore like notion so it can manage the extensions that can run on Chrome.
- Atul Arora
I have managed to get by without extensions. I go back to FF on occasion to look at what is new with Feedly and a few other services, but for the most part I run Chrome all of the time.
- Sean Brady
Agreed. I know Google has a framework going for extensions, but I'd rather see them go with this new API from Mozilla: http://labs.mozilla.com/2009... Add-ons will be HTML, CSS, and/or JavaScript. No browser restarts and no version compatibility issues.
