Just felt my first earthquake here in LA.
Scary! - Corie
5.8 on the Richter scale = depth: 12.4 km (7.7 miles) centered here: http://maps.google.com/maps... - Anthony Citrano
phone networks mostly down. i can get a call in/out once in a while on my cell. - Anthony Citrano
whoa aftershocks.. (at least I hope they're aftershocks and not foreshocks). have felt at least two. - Anthony Citrano
my first too. w00t - Andy Sternberg
my first also. safe to say i did not enjoy it. - edythe
CalTech's Dr. Kate Hutton: 5% chance that it's a foreshock, but that chance diminishes to 1% after 24 hours... - Anthony Citrano
I'm amazed at two things. First..how fast this news got around. I don't even have to listen to the regular news about the earthquake now. Second..everyone I'm subscribed to is OK (well I'm more glad than amazed about that! :D ) - Candace
NOAA says no tsunami warning for US coast. Which is sorta good news, as I am in a "red" tsunami hazard zone. - Anthony Citrano
Candace, actually a 5.4 quake isn't that bad in areas with good building codes. I can tell you, however, that it didn't feel like a 5.4 when I went through it. - Ontario Emperor
@Ontario - I'm from Miami. The first time I ever experienced the earth shaking was once in my life. It was nothing but a tremor and it SCARED ME SO BAD! I couldn't imagine a 5.4...do not want! - Candace
I grew up with earthquakes, first one loma prieta (sp?). I think that was feb 9th 1969 or 1970...anyway... my last was Northridge - the worst EVAR! Of course, I felt the SF earthquake when i was at CalPoly SLO...that was weird. Even felt the Mt. St. Helens blast off - was in CA Sierra Mtns and that was weird too! I hate earthquakes...so glad I moved away from that! Traded earthquakes in for snow! - Susan Beebe
well it was definitely very noticeable - rolling for a dozen seconds or so... a couple things fell down... but nothing compared to a big quake, I'm sure. I can't say from experience - this was my first - but just doing the math .. the Northridge quake in '94 was more than 10 times more powerful than today's. - Anthony Citrano
