Why did Visual Studio elect to use WPF in 2010? I think the move is hard to justify if considering advantages for VS customers

What do you mean it is too slow for splash screens? WPF is blazingly fast, have you seen our Xceed DataGrid for WPF do smooth scrolling and background data virtualization?

Er, that said, putting it in the VS splash screen is dangerous, the constraints they had are tough on any system...
