totally got a cool idea for new schwag... two items: for new Moms, a friend feed shirt with slots for easy feeding of infants... and for new Pops like Louis, nipple with bottle attachment inserts with one nipple coming out of the first f and the second nipple coming out of the second d... saweet!
- Rob Reed
FF schwag and twins! best picture of the day!
- Sarah Perez
Mega awesome ;) Congratulations to you and your family, like the Friendfeed t-shirt ;)

Tiny... little... eentsy... lumps of yum. There, my estrogen has officially shown itself.

No way - they have FF onesies??? How do I get my hands on one of those?

The Gray family Babies!!!! Sarah and Mathew look sooo cute in your arms! and sooo tiny my goodness!!... still LOL @ Rob's wacky comment..whoa!

it'd definitely going to take me a while to get to a million. I'm publishing about 200 photos to flickr a week right now and at this pace it will take 92 years to get there. I'll get the pace up to 400-500 a week in the future though. Better technology should make processing easier and someday my kids will be grown and I'll be able to quit my day job and focus on this even more. The best photos have yet to be taken.
- Thomas Hawk
When I think about this I realize your best days are ahead of you.
- Russellreno
What's your shot/publish ratio? I mean, on average how many shots do you take to produce those you publish?
- Yuval Atzmon
atzmon, I probably average about 2,000 shots a week that I shoot. And I'm probably processing 300 or so of those a week at present, so I'm probably keeping about 15%. The other 85% never get processed and are kept in my archives. I'm trying only to process and publish the shots that I think meet a certain quality criteria.
- Thomas Hawk
You upload a lot more than I do. I have about 40,000 pictures but only about 2000 uploaded. Mostly because I have not gotten around to processing more. =)
- Jauder Ho
from twhirl
Jauder, the good news is that processing will only get easier in the future. I've watched it get better with each successive Adobe release. Lightroom 2.0 is the best processing tool yet. It's not necessarily faster per se though because with more tools there are yet even more ways to tweak a photo hence even more time. But the tools to speed things up are coming too. auto geotagging, better anti dust tech, faster processing speeds, easier online tools with faster broadband are all around the corner.
- Thomas Hawk
16,000 ?? Yikes. Cool number. Congrats.
- Charlie Anzman
This photo is total awesome. It is made even more awesome by the knowledge that there are 15,999 more photos just as awesome as this one. EDIT: This photo is now my desktop background. :)
- Rishabh Mishra (p248)
Always loved that quote " The best photos have yet to be taken. - Thomas Hawk"
- johnpiercy
Congrats, I even don't think I took so many photos in my life. :)
- Ferhad Fidan
from fftogo
@thomas: Yahoo should be giving Flickr to you for free. You'd do a great job with it. And it would be historical: the first user-generated (company) acquisition :)))

I guess the metier of 'photo editor' is kaput...or, at least, greatly altered....
- Chris Gulker
You know they are going to delete your account without warning once you hit 999,999, right? :)
- Ace
Ace, I hope not, I'd be so pissed. Actually I think alot of what gets me so upset about all the content/account deletion issues is that I really do worry that it actually will happen to me. Flickr staff hates me and they'd *love* to delete my account. I worry that I'll wake up one morning and everything will have been nuked. I suppose that's why I'd like to see them enact the ability to...
- Thomas Hawk
Holyshit! You have taked just couple of photos...
- k00pa
Because this post is from September last year k00pa :)
- Simon Wicks
@Chris Gulker. Someday I hope to work with a photo editor. God knows I need to. I like to think of my Flickrstream today more as the raw material in a lot of ways for future projects. A good photo editor adds tremendous value to shaping a photographer's imagery.
- Thomas Hawk
fan bloody tastic! So we can post here and Twitterers can comment away without any complaints! The only think you need to try and do is bring in comments (about a share) from twitter into here! :)
- Zee.
This is great...should help new users quite a bit.
- Mark Krynsky
OK, I admit I'm dense. As an existing user will this help me find the folks I follow on Twitter?
- Laura Norvig
Cool, is it possible we could have the ability to bulk import or non-FF Twitter friends as private feeds so we can track them in FF? :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Laura, existing FriendFeed users should just go to http://friendfeed.com/friends... and click on the Twittter (and Facebook and Google) icons to find their friends. Kol, not yet, but I'm hoping to add something like that soon (improved imaginary friends).
- Paul Buchheit
Thx, Paul - guess I haven't been to that page since the launch. btw, I'm definitely coming around to the new friendfeed (colors notwithstanding).
- Laura Norvig
Great to see the standards working -OAuth fro Gogole and Twitter login on Friendfeed
- Kevin Marks
That's a great tool, Paul! Found a few from Twitter and Facebook I didn't realise were on FF...:)
- WorldofHiglet
Oh man, that is suh-weet. Works really well.
- Laura Norvig
Paul, that would be wonderful, thank you. I'm keen to use FF as a kinda Twitter client. I'd love the ability to import my group I've created on Tweetvisor too but that would additionally require exporting facilities from Tweetvisor, and from asking them they've told me it's low priority (which is fair enough).
- Kol Tregaskes
That's fantastic! Sharing with all of my not-yet-friendfeedified twitter friends. Thanks, Paul!
- Eric Johnson
This IS good. Thanks for the hard work, Benjamin Golub.
- Micah Wittman
Love that you guys are making the entry more enticing. What about refining what FriendFeed is further? Like: Twitter + conversation. For new people who don't get it and most without the time to get it, simplifying the message or experimenting further with your "first impression" on your splash page might be worth a try. Example: wouldn't it be cool to have a live conversation streaming to show just how FF has a leg up on the scattered Twitter stream?
- kilbuda
WOW! 313 new Twitter people! Amazing what the OAuth did. Amazing. That just completely Rocks!
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
That was just too easy, and found a bunch of Twitter people. I just subscribed, but I hope they participate. I'm sure I'll have to trim later.
- Eric @ CSTechcast.com
Thanks for everything Benjamin and the others, that is really great. :)
- Alp
I was subscribed to exactly 100 of the people I follow on Twitter. Added 93 more. Funny, this is actually helping me find people I *don't* want to follow in either place.
- Laura Norvig
I'm looking forward to the "advanced imaginary friends" section which lets me as an existing FriendFeed user view all the twitter updates from people that don't use FriendFeed.
- Brian Sloane
Just posted this to my stream then saw this, Cool stuff Paul
- Charlie Anzman
Some time ago I spent lots of time in removing my Facebook-Friendfeed integration, and didn't succeed, Facebook refused to remove it. Since that - no info about any other my services to Facebook, ever.
- orie
Happy to hear that there will be an improved imaginary friend option!
- Jacob
The improved imaginary friend feature will be great. No need to visit Twitter much then!
- Pinksy
How do we give virtual bucks to Paul, oh I see a like button here. Off to work on the influence funnel, who cares about dollars, I want eyes ;)
- Mark Essel
FriendFeed is constantly bringing new value to the service. I'm loving it!
- Amie Gillingham
I just imported 8,000 new Twitter friends. Worked MUCH BETTER than last time.
- Robert Scoble
Smart move guys. A quick way to grow FF users is to tap into the current hot properties. Can't believe other Social Networks are so slow to respond.
- Neill Adamson
Paul, is there a way to sync it so that people I no longer follow on Twitter are unfollowed on FriendFeed?
- Jorge Escobar
Great news on the advanced imaginary friends. That plus the ability to comment back to Facebook posts as easily as we reply to Twitter would be killer.
- Kevin Kuphal
Ca passe 50 fois par jour ce truc là sur FriendFeed ! C''est pas possible d'arr^ter, j'en ai marre de le voir franchement ... ^^
- Jean-Marie Gall
from twhirl
@Robert cannot seem to do that with groups. What I want to do: Concentrate different RSS feeds (e.g. newswires) which do not necessarily have an account in any other social network into one imaginary friend's collection of feeds.
- Mark Jacobs
Mark, "groups" (formerly "rooms") are able to import feeds just like regular users (and imaginary friends). See https://friendfeed.com/xoogle-... for example (imports the blogs of all known xoogle startups). The only thing special about imaginary friends is that they don't have usernames (or rather we assign a random 128 bit username).
- Paul Buchheit
Paul, the DM option on imaginary friends should perhaps be removed. Also, imaginary friends do not show up on the search dropdown list when you type in their name in the search box.
- Kol Tregaskes
Paul, is it possible to automatically create "imaginary friends" from twitter following list? What I would like is to read all my Twitter in FriendFeed; many of twitterers though are not on FF, so I have to create them by hand which is tedious. Also, it would be nice to allow to add them to some special list.
- Ihar Mahaniok
Ihar, see my comment up in the middle and Paul's reply. Looks like FF are working on it. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Still would like an imaginary friend than making bunch of Groups to simulate peoples that doesn’t use FF. BTW, unlike the Facebook Connect login, when I tried logging in using Twitter, it made a new account for me on FF instead of opening my own (which also has Twitter activity added).
- Natsuki Seika
Hahah. I love "found in a diaper gold".

Alfredo: the hate filled white crayon had you smiling while the hate filled black one didn't? Why is one Ok but the other not? Especially considering the black and blue ones are bruises and aren't racial while the white one is? Or is it just about the spousal abuse that bothers you and not the color?
- Bill Rawlinson
My name is Vijayendra Mohanty. People in India itself mis-spell it. I don't blame Americans. But I have seen they take more care to get it right. Perhaps so they don't hurt my "sentiments". :)
- Vijayendra (V-Mo) Mohanty
My name is Yuvaraj Pandian, and I'm glad that the most it is misspelt is that an 'a' goes missing. I have seen my share of 'names' though - BHUMMIPADIA Manoj (Yes, he does spell those with capital letters. Apparently his initials!)
- Yuvi
Everyone's making too big of a deal. This woman had questions, so she asked. At least she has enough balls to open her mouth TO ask. And Mona is not my given name, people butcher my real name so much -- as well as my last. I am glad they are trying to reach some sort of resolution feasible to the parties involved.
- Mona Nomura
What a crack up. Sometimes the comments are funnier than the story itself.
- Craig Bailey
Perhaps this Texax rep should change HER name so people from Asia or Europe can understand/spell it better. Sheer cultural arrogance there in that lady.

my last name is Shultz and people mispell it. they either add a c or drop the t or both. sometimes they drop the l. I got tired of correcting people long ago and just let them go for it.
- Jason Shultz
hi my name is whatastupidfukingwoman! nice meet you all.. :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
Contrary view: I see her sarcastic remark as a response to the effort on the part of the Democrats to prevent use of ID's at polling stations. Since the voter would have to verbally give the name to the poll worker, confusion about spelling and delays will be the likely result. Be required to show an ID to vote, and the problem can be minimized. I struggle to understand how so many can support ID'less voting. Now if we can just get ID'less flying and drinking, we'll be set.
- Robert Kenney
Many people think that my last name is the correct spelling for the bird, when in fact there is no "d" the spelling of the bird. Also many people will purposely mispronounce my name for fear of offending me. Personally, I usaully just ask for the correct pronounciation if I'm not sure. No one has ever gotten mad as result.

I think an important element to this that isn't immediately obvious (if you don't click through) is that this is addressed to Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV, who has started to use a video as an email auto-responder: http://tv.winelibrary.com/garyvs-...
- Mark Trapp
This sniffs of a transparent Lonelygirl15 spoof to promote Gary's book, 'natch.
- joshua fouts
Yes, Vaynerchuk's video response to email is significant, and Andrew's dislike of same. I think the video is great, it may be Rocketboom 2.0.
- Dave Winer
I've fallen victim to Gary's auto email reply, with his video link, before. lol.

Great points - and I agree - Even though I primarily post through FF here and on my own blog, I still have my Tumblr account because I just feel like something big is going to happen for them next year. And agreed about Marco as well (Instapaper for iPhone is fantastic).
- James Hull
Just having some fun. Of course he doesn't listen to me, so he will never see this, right? Hah!
- Robert Scoble
I love the tweet. Draw people to Scobleizer.com with the possibility that Robert Scoble might be wrong.

Does this tactic mark the shift to long tail phase and tactics for Scoble?
- Ben Watson

ha ha, would you have posted this even if Marco hadn´t made his comment?
- Peter Efland
Tumblr is super cool, and I always find I wanna use it more often than I do. But was thinking the other day with the Twitterblogr if that would get what Tumblr doesnt really have - at least not as easily - conversation?
- Peter Efland
Peter: actually, yes. I found it because I was doing some research on Tumblr for a Fast Company column.
- Robert Scoble
quote from article: "I don’t think much of Mike Arrington* and haven’t read any of his sites in years. If I accidentally open a link to his site, I cringe and close it faster than I’d close Goatse." lol

Robert, Marco also updated his post with a comment about your blog post: "OK, at least the guy has a sense of humor." :-D
- Karim
Karim: so, how did he hear about it if he isn't listening to me?
- Robert Scoble
I think this shows real class Robert; great post
- Eiso Kant
lol Robert good question! maybe a little bird told him? or he doesn't close *your* blog faster than he would close Goatse? ;-)
- Karim
Karim: I didn't tell him. But I did Tumble it, which showed up on his page. I'm sure someone emailed him too.
- Robert Scoble
I love the idea of Tumblr and I'm experimenting with ways to make it work for a new side project. Re: Marco I applaud him for saying what he really thinks, and it seems like it's actually working in his favor. :)
- Jennifer Van Grove
Marco just posted that a Facebook friend emailed him the article and asked him if it was really him.
- Robert Scoble
He's entitled to his opinion of course, but publishing it online might not be the smartest career move. Future employers might think twice about hiring a lead developer who publishes statements like that in their blog.
- John
John - I wouldn't hesitate to hire him... actually I'd prefer him. Give me someone with an opinion and the guts to say it as opposed to some schmuck that tries to make sure no one will ever be offended by anything they say.
- Brian Roy
Tumblr's an interesting platform. I opened an account in September, did a test post and promptly forgot about it until this weekend when I clicked on a link of Fred Wilson's in FF and decided to give it a try. It looks a great way of posting ad hoc notes or pics via an iPhone app to the Tumblog.
- Sally Church
Robert: I love your style! : ) Tumblr was a briallant idea with a bad execution. (Note: I heard something about Tumblr days and days after - by the help of your this blog post - like your lots of listeners:)
- Erhan
Not a huge fan of tumblr myself, but then again, I really don't know what I'm talking about.

It's a Prius, same as the one Igor found I think. Mark, I wasn't suggesting that anyone is humorless -- I'm just skeptical that this person actually supports McCain.
- Paul Buchheit
@Paul: you should read IMAO.US. This is the sort of conservative humor you'll find there.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
it's real Paul, I just drove down a side street in Princeton, NJ and counted 7 M/P signs and 2 O/B. In a college town, in a deep blue state. It made me very sad.
- Sarah Miller
Sarah, it's the "More War for OIL" sticker that makes me doubt that this particular person is a real McCain supporter.
- Paul Buchheit
it's real Paul, I just drove down a side street in Princeton, NJ and counted 7 M/P signs and 2 O/B. In a college town, in a deep blue state. Sry Paul, I read to quickly. I recently saw some bumper stickers that said "free our oil" that weren't a joke.
- Sarah Miller
"More War for Oil" -- it sounds very much like the sentiment of a Free Republic denizen or Michael Savage fan -- defiantly fascist and in your face, and dead serious. Most "conservatives" these days are completely humorless and fanatically anti-conservative. (I've heard neoconservative McCain supporters call for first-strike nuclear attacks on Muslim and Arab nations.)
- Sean McBride
The neoconservative (anti-conservative) cult which produced Ann Coulter, Free Republic, Michael Savage, Michelle Malkin, Pat Robertson, John Hagee and Pamela Geller would easily embrace bumper stickers which read "More War for Oil." It sounds very Ann Coulterish. Visit the Media Matters for America website http://mediamatters.org/ for an analysis of many examples of neocon extremist speech and hate speech. Many of these people are agitating furiously to expand the Iraq War to Iran.
- Sean McBride
Ann Coulter: "We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity." Think she's kidding? Does the Iraq War look like a joke? It's difficult for sane people to understand that neoconservatives are NOT kidding when they make insane statements. They're insane. Irony is a blue state thing, a coastal elites thing. The red state mentality never rises above heavy sarcasm.
- Sean McBride
Btw, Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins still doesn't understand the radical distinction between conservatives and neoconservatives. Hopkins is no conservative.
- Sean McBride
Seems to echo his promise of war for a hundred years... securing all that oil!
- Samuel Buick
Chris White - you're making the assumption that Prius owners can't be John McCain supporters. Not true. McCain has a record of aggressive pro-environmentalism. I suppose we could contact the owner of the car via the DMV to discover the true intent behind the stickers. :)
- Sean McBride
.Prius owner AND John McCain supporter [instances] * // probably not an empty set

@AJKohn I'm sensing a conspiracy... Right wingers claiming the polls are so far tipped to Obama that voters don't bother showing up... Therefore, come January 2009, Mccain takes the oath of office.

@Prolific: I don't know if it's a conspiracy but I know that you don't stop pedaling when you get close to the top of a mountain (I'm a cyclist). Instead you keep going as hard as you can and pedal through the top and only let up when you're actually going down the hill. The shorter version: Let's not get cocky.

"We leveraged up and if you have a 20 percent fall in value of a $20 trillion asset, that’s $4 trillion. And when $4 trillion lands — losses land in the wrong part of this economy, it can gum up the whole place.” People should have known better but in some way’s it’s unavoidable with markets: “People should always know better. … I mean people — people don’t get — they don’t get smarter about things that get as basic as greed and you can’t stand to see your neighbor getting rich. You know you’re smarter than he is, and he’s doing these things, you know, and he’s getting rich, and your spouse is getting unhappy with you because you aren’t doing — pretty soon you start doing it. And so you get what I call the natural progression, the three I’s: the innovators, the imitators, and the idiots. And that’s what happens. Everybody just kind of goes along. And you look kind of silly if you disagree."

Right on! Yep, i am very "silly" ...not a jonesy type anymore.... we gave away much of our "cool stuff" and now have a mimimalist home ...MUCH BETTER and the best part, no stinking debt, except house and 1 car. The bank was all too ready to sock us deep into debt. We decided against that and are very happy with our decision to borrow only half what was offered (more realistic with cushion to $pare)
- Susan Beebe
Unsure imitators and idiots don't simply continue on their merry way under bailout.
- AJ Kohn
@AJ all the bailout does is buy time. We're merely delaying the inevitable, I think. If the imitators and the idiots keep doing what they're doing, we'll just be right back here again, except probably even worse off.

Democrats didn't cause this financial eff-up - crooked individuals working for crooked mortgage and investment companies did. Oh, and, unfortunately, the everyday American is also to blame, because they weren't educated enough on some of the investments they made. However, you can't fault them too much for that, because they were left to trust those who were guiding them towards their investments. There's too much blame to throw around for you to place ALL the blame upon the Dems.

Toby, in my mind, I understand people gotta do what they gotta do to stay alive. In my heart, the practice and pics above bother me. I think I'm conflicted, but if you want to say hypercritical, that's cool. @slipol, I don't eat meat.
- Anna Haro
If you don't eat meat you can be conflicted rather than hypercritical :)
- Toby Graham
There are still tribes that basically survive on 1-2 whales per year for the whole community.
- Kevin L
I eat meat, but not whale meat... cows aren't endangered, as far as I know.
- Jemm
I have no problems with eating meat, I just draw the line at meat from animals that reach a certain level of consciousness. Everything else is fair game - and to any veggies that try to "make me see the error of my ways", may I point out the ultimate irony of life is that for it to continue, another must die. And that we are discovering plants to be FAR more alive than we ever gave them credit, just do some research into plant neurobiology and social studies and you'll realise they're on a par with animals.
- alphaxion
There's one tribe in Alaska or Canada that has a big ceremony, then they row out in their boat to find a whale, and when they're ready for the kill, they don't pull out a spear but grab a .50 caliber rifle and shoot it. Guess it isn't all that authentic...
- Andrew Leyden
Good stuff Steven - reminds me of that discussion we had a while back about the early adopter crowd drifting further and further away from the mainstream.
- Frederic
The Passionates, for the most part, are unfortunately not objective because The Passion is their bread and butter. But those who want more than a niche will pay attention to how the other 98% use the internet.
- LogEx
The "passionates" thing struck me as a bit dissonant, too. Scoble is right: this technology isn't user friendly enough to have wide appeal -- yet. But it's the start of smart browsers. And I *do* think you'll see mom and pop happily swimming in that pool someday soon.
- Chris Baskind
I'm with Scoble on this. He's just saying that Ubiquity is not for everyone and that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's on the same vein as Jeff Atwood's two types of programmers post. http://www.codinghorror.com/blog...
- Alan Le
And I don't agree that the internet is grouped into passionates and nons, unless he means those who are passionate about web technology and those who aren't. Just about everyone is passionate about something. We just aren't all passionate about the same things that Robert or Dave or whoever is passionate about.
- Alex Scoble
I just left a comment on the blog that just might choke a hippo.
- Mark Dykeman
yer either with us or again' us. it's teh merican way.
- jeneane sessum
@Mark .. it was a great comment ... I'll be getting around to replying to all of them shortly as I just finished posting tonight's Discussion Point.
- Steven Hodson
great post...many people use tech as a tool to help them achieve things in what they ARE passionate about.
- Elliott Ng
Good one Steven. Scoble does bring some seriously interesting stuff to his stream. Blocked him once a long (long) time ago. It was a mistake. Noisy? I'm starting to think I'm noisy. Maybe it's a disease :) Love the new blog look. Keep it up
- Charlie Anzman
@Jason - I like the idea of the "fashionably late early adopter" - it's cheaper!
- Mark Dykeman
@Jason, I totally agree. I consider myself to be one of those and appreciate the time I save by learning from those who get there a few minutes before me.

"My friends are spread across dozens of different sites—Picasa, Pownce, Plurk, Pandora, Polyvore—and that's just the Ps. Most of them publish to two or three sites at minimum. Figuring out how to navigate each site is more work than I have time for. My fellow tech pundit Robert Scoble posts movies, photos, and text to more than a dozen sites. Can't I just get one page that lists everything Scoble did today? I can!"

This is a good article, overall. For the first time I really am "getting" friendfeed and understand why folks are drawn to a place like Facebook. The updates are so much easier to track here than going places and then if I want to go somewhere else I can. My question as an educator is will this too be blocked by our filter? Or can I show other teachers how this might be a great learning tool for students?
- Sean Sharp
might give this a shot, cheers for sharing.
- Zee.
I'm going to have to look into this FriendFeed thing.

For this kind of passive consumption of your friends' content, I think SocialThing is the better service. It automatically collects your pals' latest updates without having to recreate each person's individual feeds as an "imaginary friend." SocialThing addresses the hard truth: your friends aren't on FriendFeed.
- mrshl
@mrshl Given my circle of friends, most of them are on friendfeed. YMMV
- EricaJoy
now likely they will run it over and run it, but in keeping hope alive Erica I frankly open that there is an opening up of FF. As a non-tech person it can be a challenge to find discussions NOT RELATED to tech. Part of the reasons i post the things I do from my FF is in hopes of drawing others out to talk about something aside from the fact twitter is down or what I like to call "the meat which shall not be named". speaking of that: it is a BAD example of non-tech talk...LOL.
- R. Ferguson
SocialThing is pretty cool too -- it really speaks to a totally different need. Incidentally, I've never seen a single Polyvore link on here. Does anyone actually use it?
- Nathan Rein
@erica definitely agree. i have a few pals on friendfeed, as well. but most of my friends are relative non-techies who nevertheless use flickr and facebook, or even twitter and del.icio.us. they tend to post about their lives, not social media tools. as much as i dig FF, socialthing lets me keep up with the lion's share of my pals.
- mrshl
FriendFeed + cooliris ( http://cooliris.com/site... )is a pretty nifty combo, altho i wish there was a way to turn cooliris on for friendfeed only.
- Allan Anderson
@Allan. Glad to hear you're enjoying Previews. Have you checked out PicLens by Cooliris? We do not currently have the option to turn Previews on for only friendfeed, but it's a great idea. I'll pass it on!
- Cooliris
This is what i love Friendfeed my favorite site
