But no one makes love like Neil Patrick Harris is dancing? FAIL!
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
My brother in law in the Philippines can't be dissuaded from naming his son Elmo. I hope that unborn boy is ready to be tormented for the rest of his life. Why do parents do that to their kids?
- Bradley Farless
You know, in my heart I hope that people like NPH who seem just so damn awesome on the screen are just as cool in real life. Anyone met the fellow in person?
- Adam Lasnik
I'm sure he's a decent guy. Never met him, though.
- Josh Haley
But he sure can dance, just look at him go!
- Zulema ◕ ◡ ◕
Love him when he's unicorn watching.
- Gabrielle V
Okay, I swear I am not just pimpin' good swing music, but I was looking at this GIF and listening to this song - http://lala.com/zPe9 ("Billie's Bounce" performed live by Buddy Rich) - and it matches! :o
- Adam Lasnik
Gross. I just unliked to be contrary. Yet another reason why I pulled back from FriendFeed. And why getting swallowed up by Facebook, the great leveler, couldn't make more sense.
- Rick Powell
That's right, all you horrible time-wasters you! Get back to talking about kernels and APIs! Have you no Protestant work-ethic? /sarcasm

"Research revealed that self-driving cars, once a fantasy requiring an entirely new infrastructure, are now technologically possible, even inevitable. Savvy robotics are here and real. Advances in GPS, sophisticated sensors, and navigation databases will allow driverless vehicles to operate on the same roads we have today."

This makes me think about a futuristic place like that portrayed in "The Prisoner" back in the late 60's. (Though I don't think they had any self-driving cars... just self-guided "capture" balloons!)

The cars in Demolition Man were self-driving. I loved that movie.

I like the KSOs much better. Run with the Injinji socks and you won't get blisters.
- Graham English
Where did the skin rub off? The classics are pretty bad in the heel area. I know a couple people who got the Sprints and didn't have any troubles with them.
- CAJ, somewhere else
I haven't seen anybody with the black ones yet. They look really good though.
- Daniel Zarick
Is it considered bad form to wear these as regular shoes, like around the office?
- Andy Bakun
It's generally considered bad form to be comfortable in an office (especially if you're female), so if these shoes are normally comfortable, I'd say so.
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
i have a pair of KSO's and was expecting blisters but have gotten absolutely none. im super happy with mine. Paul, how sore are your calves? I had the deepest burn for a few days after i started.
- Kevin Pruett
I'm not so sure my office has that issue, Minimage.
- Andy Bakun
I'm considering getting those - I had to give up on the barefoot treadmill running.
- Darren
Does your office need a technician who attacks computer problems viciously and tenaciously, Andy? j/k
- MiniMage TKDteacher of FF
Kevin, my feet and legs (other than the skin) feel fine, though we'll see how things are tomorrow. I ordinarily wear flip flops and also spent a little time thinking about how to run barefoot, so I was at least a little prepared. I'm not much of a runner, but it felt easier than it normally is.
- Paul Buchheit
Hmmm - I wonder if they sell those at BackCountry.com - need to go look (I used to work there)
- Jesse Stay
Paul, is this inspired by that MacDougall book Born to Run ?
- Ahsan Ali aka. Slick
How do they run? I like the idea, but I'm afraid they'll be uncomfortable/annoying.
- Nate Pilling
Yeah, the red is blood. It's not that bad though. The blisters on the pads of my feed are more annoying. I shall have to try wearing socks next time :)
- Paul Buchheit
If you're chafing on the heels, and they're not too big, then the prescribed answer is special 5 finger socks. My brother called them and that was what they told him anyway.
- Piaw Na
Piaw, I think they are too big. The "right" size felt a little more snug than I like, so I went one size larger, which may have been a mistake. I did buy the toe socks, but just didn't wear them.
- Paul Buchheit
Sorry about your feet! I've never seen these before. They look they would be excellent for Martial Arts as well. Are your toes still as flexible in them?
- Michael Fidler
My FiveFingers get me lots of comments when I wear them around (airports, conferences, etc.). Muy comfortable.
- Jason Miller
Oh, great. More plaster casts from Bigfoot "researchers".
- Aryn Corley
Ooh. I have never seen these before. Do they make you run faster / better?
- Winston Teo
Just saw a woman wearing these on the Red Line train in Cambridge, MA last week. First time I'd seen them.
- Ben Greenberg
Winston: the FiveFingers lessen the barrier between the ground and your foot, which allows your body to naturally compensate for variations in terrain. Some claim this is healthier and will improve long-term running healthy. Read the book 'Born to Run' for a great story and some provocative science.
- Jason Miller
I bought a pair of the sprints a few weeks ago and had a similar problem, no blood though. I took them back right away and bought the KSOs in a size smaller. For some reason in the women's version, the KSOs run a half size big, might be worth checking it out in the men's if you're concerned about sizing. Also, watch out...I loved running in these so much I doubled my routine and out of...

- Kristin Norris
Jason, you just cost me $10 with your book recommendation (damn the Kindle and the easy book buying)
- Piaw Na
I bought vibrams a week ago: ran a few miles, went to the gym and wore them all the day; feeling very comfortable, no blood or blisters reported so far (as a disclaimer I usually wander barefoot at home and I am kind of a regular runner). Great also for exercising at the gym as I felt more grounded; on the other hand they are not very suited for driving, too much grip.
- Marco Fabbri
@Trish, ketchup is also delicious but strawberry is more delicious :)
- Mahdi Ebrahimi
hey Trish...do me a fave...next time you see this kid...bite her cheeks for me. kthx.
- Carlos Ayala
I wholeheartedly agree with you Mahdi. Strawberries are my favorite.
- Trish Haley
My daughter has always loved ketchup. Anything she didn't dip in ketchup got dipped in ranch dressing, and some things were okay in either as long as there was dip. My sister wanted to get her a shirt that said, "Why yes, I DO like ketchup with my ketchup!"
- Ladybug Heather
oh snap, carlos! i just saw your comment... you're not half guamanian, are you? we bite our kids relentlessly. @heather sounds like a great t-shirt!
- Trish Haley
El. Oh. El. You gotta be some sort of stupid to friend your boss before your probation period is up. Fired in front of friends and family? PRICELESS.
- Anika
She's a f*ing idiot. A similar thing happened to a friend of mine at an ad agency, who accidentally texted "my boss is a fucking cunt" ... to her boss. She didn't get fired or reprimanded, but she freaked out about it.
- LANjackal
It floors me how much people openly vent about their jobs on public feeds like FriendFeed. Even if your boss isn't a direct contact, how are people so sure that a boss or co-worker won't stumble across it?
- Mike Doeff
from iPhone
If I have complaints about work, I try to mask them as much as possible or make them more about me personally than the job itself. At the same time, I really try to stay mum about any job I have..
- Jon, the Beartato of FF
Mike and how are you so sure that other people don't know who you are talking about? There's a person here on FriendFeed who complains about their coworker. Even though I live in a different city, I know that coworker.
- Anika
+1 Anika. I generally refrain from talking bad about my employer/coworkers ANYWHERE online. Even on anonymous accounts. You just never know who might freak out and file an unmasking court order. It's happened before.
- LANjackal
from IM
It also doesn't matter if anyone sees it when you write it, because The Google sees it and records it for anyone looking for it years from now.
- Trish R
Maybe the more general rule that comes into play here is to never say anything about someone you wouldn't tell them to their face.
- Ken Sheppardson
What an idiot... When people claim we don't need guidelines for employees using social media, I just have to point out cases of extreme stupidity like this...
- Badger Gravling
Ouch! Hope she learned the lesson. And +1 Ken, this is the simplest rule not to forget at any point.
- lelapin
Well someone has to make room for other people! From the sounds of it, she was probably already canned anyway.
- Robert Fisher
Well that was a bit dumb. The thing about social media is it's just so much a part of our lives. We are encouraged to pour our views and feelings into it but we have to remember who is going to be reading it. In the end we have to censor ourselves so as a result our lifestream is a watered down stream. There are no directors cuts.
- Parvez Halim
Interestingly, every time I consider complaining about my job via any social media platform, I stop and think "how can I make my job better? how can I improve myself?" and then end up writing about that instead. It has made me a much happier person. Really.
- mike fabio
:). Well it's okay for both of them. It sounded like the employee was really unlucky to got this job. He hated it deep inside. The "Boss" don't need people which don't love their work, ASK YOURSELF: What's more worse? Being fired after posting you real thoughts somewhere, or keep on working without having a bit of joy or patience on the job and face serious health problems after some time?
- Ryo / Fuck Facebook
.. and that's why I'm private. I'm pretty good about not talking about work, but never know when I may say something completely stupid
- Rodfather
I think there is a serious point here: Your on-line social network pals will be supportive of you regardless of whether you are right or wrong. That's what friends are for, kind of. All the boss does is let in a bit of reality.
- sjjh
Maybe she wanted to be fired by her boss? Just questioning...

Splendid. Too bad the story isn't real. OR IS IT...?
- Francesco Balducci
I do so love the false sense of anonymity the Internet instills in people.

Where did you get this? I'm trying to verify that it is actually a real event. Looks too 'perfect' and to generate this much hype I believe it is just two friends that wanted to laugh about how stupid the world is...

"This is morning in America in the Internet age. After six to eight hours of network deprivation — also known as sleep — people are increasingly waking up and lunging for cellphones and laptops, sometimes even before swinging their legs to the floor and tending to more biologically urgent activities. “It used to be you woke up, went to the bathroom, maybe brushed your teeth and picked up the newspaper,” said Naomi S. Baron, a professor of linguistics at American University, who has written about technology’s push into everyday life. “But what we do first now has changed dramatically. I’ll be the first to admit: the first thing I do is check my e-mail.”"

addicts. each and every one of you I say.
- Thomas Hawk
I don't wait until morning, hitting my iPod Touch or iPhone all night long. NEED DATA.
- RAPatton
I am very guilty of this. The first thing I do in the morning is check email, read the latest tweets and see what's been posted to the rss feeds I have in google reader. Only after doing all that can I brush my teeth :)
- jenali
from BuddyFeed
jenali: I do the same in the middle of the nights sometimes... Seriously! reading emails & tweets!
- Mohammad Abdurraafay
I spend the first 2 hours of every morning in front of a computer before doing mostly anything else usually. I get up early though.
- Thomas Hawk
Now I really am feeling either old or appropriately balanced. I get up, take care of duties, fix coffee, have breakfast...and then, about 90 minutes later, turn on the computer and, among other things, check email and FF. (And it's usually 12 to 14 hours of "network deprivation" since I rarely use the computer after dinner.) Ooh, so deprived...
- Walt Crawford
Um I still read the newspaper first thing. Old school!
- Matt G
In answer to Matt, newspapers simply need to be re-born, and I've go an idea how to do it.
- Shari Weiss
A newspaper is a portable device that I can read in the kitchen while I cook breakfast. The best thing is I have to go outside once a day to collect it.
- Matt G
Well, yes, I read (part of) the newspaper over breakfast & coffee. And go outside to collect it...
- Walt Crawford
imagine how much it would suck if you woke up in the morning and went immediately to your computer and you *didn't* have internet service. You'd be bummed.
- Thomas Hawk
hey Thomas, thats happened to me a couple of times.. No net access. yes that sucks.. espcially when you one is a RoadWarrior !
- Peter Dawson
I grab my iPhone and check FriendFeed after my alarm goes off... on my iPhone... before getting out of bed =P. Then I check my work email.
- Travis Koger
Ditto Travis. My iPhone is my alarm, and I immediately hit email and FriendFeed before even getting up. I do that even if my laptop is RIGHT THERE, as it often is, because I'm often internetting until the very second I go to sleep. It's usually at least half an hour before I get around to bathroom duties.
- Jandy, ConcertMaven of FF
Yes, I agree. I feel the "addictive" quality of it (btw-Thomas, same article caught my FFShare, too. ;)) When I found myself slipping into the pattern of the "10 second walk", I got tough with myself and made morning prayer a priority. I find that its better when I can wake up to prayer and meditating about the day first. I'm not as rushed or anxious even though there is plenty to be...
- Melanie Reed
Falling asleep using the iPhone to browse FF is A LOT easier than doing the same on a laptop... especially if you are in bed at the time ;)
- Travis Koger
I'm pretty guilty of this. I had to cut FriendFeed out of my morning check because it was making me late to class, so just email and Twitter. While this might not be the best behavior, it is sometimes necessary, I can't tell you how many times I'd wake up, check the email, and find out my first class of the day was canceled. Many of us are doing this because it is required.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
from twhirl
Aram, just dump Twitter and keep FriendFeed instead.
- Thomas Hawk
Just because I'm sitting naked in my bed with my nightguard in my mouth, haven't brushed my teeth or broken my fast yet doesn't mean I'm an addict. Nosirree.
- Spidra Webster
Thomas, I'd love to, but the problem is many of the people I work with are on Twitter only and have no interest in joining FriendFeed, no matter how much I try. These are the people I pay attention to Twitter for. If I could see my Twitter feed in FriendFeed, I would stop using it entirely, but I can't because the Twitter feed is password protected.
- Aram Zucker-Scharff
from twhirl
The really pathetic ones are those who can't even wait until morning to read the day's news – I know someone who actually read this very NYT article the night *before* on his/her iPhone just before going to bed late Sunday evening.
- Mark Taber
I remember being told once that you should always start your lists with the "make a list" item so that you can check something off as soon as the list is made and have that feeling of a good start.
- Michael W. May
I know about that. Is there a way to automatically add those that aren't already here?
- Sam Grover
But there could be better ways to add non-friendfeed twitterers.
- 1x29
Calling FriendFeed a twitter client is a bit inaccurate. It can post to twitter and you can read people's toots and reply, but you can't do many of the things that an actual Twitter client (star messages, send and receive DMs, follow/unfollow easily, etc.) I'm not complaining because I don't want FriendFeed to be a full-blown Twitter client- just saying :)
- Brett Kelly
In all fairness FriendFeed has made it as simple as pie for people on Twitter to easily sign in/up with Twitter OAUTH. I just think my Twitter network are brave enough to make new friends :-P
- CannonGod
Yea, since FriendFeed has the twitter firehose, I would like to have a simple way to add all the people I'm following. That may still not work for protected twitter feeds.
- Sam Grover
Sam: You're right, it doesn't. I'd like it to be able to do that thought (add private feeds). I'd have no need to go to twitter.com at all then :)
- 1x29
I curse myself for going back to Twitter everytime I enjoy friendfeed. It's just that I as a media-nobody get more interaction and with more diverse people on twitter; probably my fault.
- Alex 'BuckyBit' Covic
That's the truth. I admit, I certainly don't. But I don't see it as Twitter client.
- nicky jameson
No way to add someone's twitter if it is a protected feed. That's where imaginary friend fails.
- Nick B.
Add your account or a list to this search ( http://friendfeed.com/search... )and the pop out makes a GREAT twitter app. I have a list called Twitter that I made of people I want to keep up with.
- tomit
Where could I read more about Groups? Did they call it "room" in the past? Best practices and cases? Could it be used as a customer forum and member place?
- Martin Lindeskog
I totally agree scoble! i dont use tweetdeck or seesmic as my twitter client.. i use friendfeed! i read most tweets on twitter from my friendfeed page.. the lists of users here are the best!
- Jason Pollock
Enough already, Rob! You've sold me on FriendFeed!
- Thomas Ward
I hardly visit Twitter anymore - I just sync up my followers every couple of weeks
- Anthony Feint
I like that it has more than 140 character, comments and easy importation of fb and twitter friends.
- Ron Hagenhoff
I do just about everything in friendfeed now. I still use twitter, but I don’t watch it anymore. I still need to implement lists here. I could use some advice on the best way to go about it. I just want the time I spend here to me more productive than it is right now. I’m hoping a little organization will help with it.
- Michael Fidler
@sebastian - create imaginary friend - "starsparkle". Then add the twitter account starsparkle to it = "we could not find the give account". RSS feed is available but password protected - suggestions welcome!

What will the blackhat SEO experts, the SM spammers, and the social media experts do during a widespread outage? The answer is obvious: While sitting out the crisis they're fine-tuning their methodology. Seriously, your question offends me. There's a gazillion of SEO experts out there who do not abuse social media.
- Sebastian
Sebastian there can't be a gazillion SEO experts! What's 10,000 keywords times 20?? (and that's being generous!)
- Arleen Anderson
Would a social media expert consider it to be a crisis? If they rely so heavily on just one or two tools that it's enough to throw them into a tizzy, their expert status would seem to me to be ... questionable, at best.
- Gord McLeod
Arleen, 10,000 keyword phrases times 20 is a tiny fraction of the search terms that are worth optimizing for. Think of the long tail. Also, consider lots of webmasters and even publishers / site owners / bloggers / Web developers ... SEO experts who are able to optimize their stuff quite successfully but don't sell or publish their expertise. Many of them, and even many SEO consultants, do make sensible use of social media, as plain users.
- Sebastian
Gord, in a social media spammer's book 2 hours of outage, IOW 2 hours w/o sales from sneakily distributed links to questionable sales pitches, can sum up to way more than a good day's beer money. ;) However, "crisis" might be a term too strong for this potential loss.
- Sebastian
Arleen: yes, reading this is fun. Sebastien SEO types are so easy to wind up. ;-)

Ha! The whole Facebook Twitter slowdown may have been just people clicking on spam (not a DDoS botnet). How funny! Manual DDoS. See Bill Woodcock's theory at CNet, AP, SF Gate, and The Register http://ff.im/6gLmO
- Mitchell Tsai
There you go again implying the only ones that use twitter is SEO experts, the celebrities, the spammers, the bots, and the social media experts - This is definitely SPIN. Perhaps you should join CNN also LOL
- RetiredTeacherD
Ironic, given your status as a celebrity social media expert who constantly spams about bots... :-P

Now they'll have time to shower and do their laundry!
- Ron Hagenhoff
Ron, oh man, I hope the infrastructure will survive this :)

First flying sharks, now flying stingrays... we're all going to die!
- Georgia Diehl
Next you're going to tell me there are giant squid capable of taking down an airliner.
- Brian Johns
I wouldn't know about that, Brian. I stopped watching Lost during the first season.
- Kevin Fox
I believe this picture was taken across the harbour from where I am sitting at my desk...this same pic was in the NZ Hearld. Whales do chase the sting rays...and then they tear open their midsections...apparently, that is the part of the stingray that the whales like.
- Skye Miller
never too late to catch up on Lost, Kevin. You still have some months ;)
- Adam Lasnik
Every once in a while I have the urge to pick up some Full house on DVD. But I'm 99% sure it won't hold up to my childhood memories. Still, I liked the character of Kimmy. Probably because I wasn't supposed to. I'm a rebel that way.
- Joe Pierce
I like the Zune-style menu on the right.

I'm still not so sure about the honeycombs design. It think it makes it easier to tell the touch boundaries for the icons, but the arrangement of the icons just seems odd to me.

And yet I cannot event upgrade my T-Mobile dash to 6.1 :( T-Mobile <- fail.
- petar vucetin
It's really looking great. Right now I'm jealous of the phones that will run it.
- Jordan Hofker
Jordan, It won't be available until fourth quarter this year. I wonder, since it's 6.5 is it a free upgrade like going from 6.0 --> 6.1?
- Alan Le
Have you seen their MobileMe competitive service. MyMicrosoft or something? Bizarre how they would launch that service when platforms are moving towards cloud.
- Mona Nomura
Mona, i assume they're gonna launch via their Live platform. Edit: Oops, that should be Azure, not Live.
- imabonehead
I think that they'll use the Microsoft Azure cloud platform. Balmer also announced a Windows Mobile Marketplace for apps in the live stream video.

I couldn't stop laughing when the lady said it. She was triggered by my cashier who had mentioned Scoble, though she had no idea who he was either.
- Anika
I thought Johnny was no-pants-man. Never heard of those others, though.
- WorldofHiglet
Sooo... what's the recipe of the day, Robert?
- Adrian
That's a nice story. cooked, deep-fried and garnished....thanks
- Ashish Tiwari
Sorry but are you implying that Anika is making this up, Ashish?
- Adrian
Not at all Adrian, actually enjoyed it and Thanks again to Anika for the post. sorry if the "cooking" reference to the Robert being chef went too afar or missed....
- Ashish Tiwari
Oh! I see now, my bad. That was pretty clever.
- Adrian
Adrian trying to pick fights on the internet . . . damn
- B. Hatin
