Thanks Enrique, I'll post some more soon. They are a little more obvious than these ones. As Luke points out; without being able to look closely it's impossible to tell. He's right; but up close it's more obvious. I'll upload the originals to Picasa later, and then you'll be able to zoom in with any photo viewer and see for yourselves. I can't believe how many people liked these. A few people have reposted them already. Thanks!

Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.

I'm amazed that people are still posting these photographs of animals and calling them pencil drawings. This is at least the third case I can remember (and there are probably more) of this happening. The myth about them being drawings was debunked long ago. It's also funny that whenever they get posted the person posting them doesn't make it clear that they aren't the artist, exactly as you have done.

The people you refer do don't join "just to slam" someone, they are concerned members of the online art community that want to see real art appreciated and fake art or photos being passed off as drawings revealed for what they really are. Artists such as Brian Duey, Armin Mersmann, Paul Lung, Zindy Nielsen,and many others do not receive the appreciation they deserve because of scams like this.

When you've seen these same pictures posted multiple times by people that just find them on the internet and claim they are pencil drawings, when it has already been established on multiple occasions that they are not, the "benefit of the doubt" approach seems a little too generous. People post these images and claim they're drawings to get views for their own site or blog or page or whatever it is they post it on. It's wrong and it needs to be stopped.

I can understand that, but you should also keep in mind that everyone is not as well-versed in the issue as you are. All I'm saying is that you would probably be more effective in this case if you weren't setting this up as a us-vs.-them, "must destroy with the validity my argument!" attitude when talking to a guy who's been actively having a discussion on the issue in what seems to me (having been around when he first posted the images and the follow up thread and what not) to be good faith.

I would probably qualify as an image analysis expert, but there's no way to prove that online. One thing we can do is look at color. Even though the images are black and white,they're actually RGB images, meaning they contain cyan magenta and yellow. We have "re-share" Zee (it's missing from the beta, but it will be back). Why do you not want the ff.im link? It seems to me that this country was founded on the premiss of free speech. I for one believe that marriage is between a man and a women. But that does not prevent the state from creating some other type of civil union. The big issue i have (and a lot of others who disagrees with same sex marriage) is the use of the word Marriage. I have no problem with same sex civil unions which give same sex couples the same legal rights. Marriage to me however contains a religious context and that is why i disagree with same sex marriages

I think same sex marriages should be legal between two consenting adults. I voted No on Prop 8. I also think that Perez Hilton did a disservice to this movement by vilifying this woman at a beauty pageant and probably robbing her of her crown. It was an inappropriate question to be asked a single contestant at a beauty contest. It's unfortunate that he used this opportunity to convey his own intolerance and to give those opposing same sex marriage valuable ammunition to use in this case.

@Jamie - the easy next step from there is "let's not legalize religious ceremonies at all". Just make the legal analogue of a marriage a civil union, regardless of the sex of the partners. The ceremony can be called whatever your officiant wants it to be.

Being pretty new to Twitter (two years but very sporadic until the last few weeks) I hadn't heard of @aplusk until today. Anyhow, I went to try to follow him in the last few hours and none of my attempts were successful. My conclusion: the race is rigged by joint PR effort, they want him to break the million just as he appears on Oprah. Or something like that. I have to say that, given it's a free service, I didn't mind too much. But I probably haven't invested as much of myself as Scoble and others here :)

I've seen something lke this happen to regular users - follow again, clear browser cache, reload page, try to unfollow again. If that doesn't do it, try blocking. I would never have followed @aplusk in the first place, so I can't perform the test

Mark well I'm sure there could easily be a collaborative effort given the amount of people using the service, and the amount of companies or projects using the firehose, we could easily find new users, and check their followers out, and who they may follow, then give that back to twitter to judge who is "real" or someone. Adding spam watchdog would be easy too since someone already does spam and link checking.

Sweet, now I want a plus button that lets me create additional notification rules. Why pick a single group to focus on out of all the groups I have created? Imagine Outlook or GMail having ten folders but only one sorting rule.

Daniel - I think you can get around this by creating a special "FF notifier" list, and putting subscriptions you want to be notified about into that list. And then just subscribe to that "FF notifier" list in the FF notifier.

Slight bug, at least on mine. The saved position of the settings window doesn't match that of the pop-up nortification window as before. The pop-up window is a little to the left compared to where I save the settings window. :-( I'm trying to save this in the bottom left of my second screen but it overlaps onto the first screen. So by trial and error I've got it in the right place now.

But here's the deal, #aprilfools bashers. It can act as an inoculation of sorts. The *temporary suspension* of the social norms that work against social engineering exploits is a Good Thing. It provides a relatively safe, unique window into collective human behaviour that gives white hats a chance to observe the anatomy and mechanics of a scam. It's R & D on ourselves.

According to Amazon, there are now 52 billion objects in S3. How many objects do you estimate there are in Gmail? (assuming messages and attachments each count as an "object") Assume 100,000,000 users (according to comscore, I think). Also, don't confuse the median for the mean.

Assuming an average of 5000 messages in an account, of which 1% have attachments, that'd be about 500 billion objects. I'm not really confident in my estimates, however. I figure after any amount of use, you're probably up to a couple thousand messages in Gmail (at least), but then you'd have to take into account power users with tens of thousands of messages and the mass of accounts that probably have nothing in them.

The majority of my emails do not have attachments. The byte size of the attachments are larger than the emails themselves. Google actively encourages me not to delete things. However, anything we place on S3 should matter and be deleted when no longer needed because we (all AWS customers) have to pay for it. I think they are both interesting numbers - and I was surprised how low that S3 figure is - but do think they are different beasts.

Wondering if Gmail optimizes storage of binary objects sent to mailing lists. I think that would make a big difference. All those HTML emails with embedded images add up quickly - store the image once and reference it from X million accounts reduces the number of items by enough to be significant.
