I'm sorry but this is unbelievable:) I'll give credit to the artist upon more convincing proof! The photogenic look of the tiger and lion really helps the artist's case though:)
- Roney Smith
I'm with Roney... I find this hard to believe... or maybe I'm just jealous that I can't even get stick people right!
- Jasmin Smith
I'm really happy everyone liked these. They're my most liked entry to date, Thanks! There also seems to be some question about whether these are actually Pencil Drawings.I can assure you that they are. When I get home, I should have the links. I have more drawings, too.

Thanks Enrique, I'll post some more soon. They are a little more obvious than these ones. As Luke points out; without being able to look closely it's impossible to tell. He's right; but up close it's more obvious. I'll upload the originals to Picasa later, and then you'll be able to zoom in with any photo viewer and see for yourselves. I can't believe how many people liked these. A few people have reposted them already. Thanks!
- Michael Fidler
Absolutely awesome, Michael. You are extremely talented. Everyone should repost these pix and help to make you famous. You should be doing this full time - you obviously have some passion for this. Bravo.
- Chris Loft
These are really beautiful, Michael. Do you sell them?
- Shannon Jiménez
Chris, I would love to say they're mine, but it's not true. I've had them for a while, but I'll find the artists names. It will just require a little backtracking. Besides, they deserve the credit; all I did was find them:-)
- Michael Fidler
Cut the bullshit! :) Photos are very good.
- Burçak Çubukçu
I draw alot in pencil, but they are amazing, the best for me is the girl, that is the most photo-like one. :o)
- Rob Sellen :o)
I agree Rob, the girl is amazing. My favorite by far! Wait until you see it close up! It's really had to tell, even up close!
- Michael Fidler
Burçak Çubukçu If these were photographs, they would be very good. As Pencil Drawings,(which they are), they're amazing.
- Michael Fidler
@Burçak Çubukçu I can't tell if your serious now or just kidding around. I hope your just having fun! If you are serious, I've never given you a reason to question my integrity, nor do I ever intend to. However, the second set is up now, so judge them for yourself, but don't judge me! http://ff.im/1BJh5 BTW, I messed up and reposted the shot of the women again. Oh well. Hope you like them:-)
- Michael Fidler
@Michael: try deviantART, not Picasa, to submit your artworks
- LouCypher
LouCypher, I know it well, but I don't see why I would want to do that. I hope everyone knows by now that they're not mine? I'm sorry, but I can't say it any clearer than that.
- Michael Fidler
nah, i don't believe it is done in pencil. i am sure it is photoshopped :)
- hasin hayder
I'm finding this both interesting and humorous at the same time. There's a separate message board where this post is being discussed and it has another forty comments on it already. I think its great how this has created some lively discussion, considering that when I posted this I was doubtful if anyone would even like it. When I went to sleep last night there was only had 3 or 4 likes...

Very interesting. I would like to see them up close and in person...just to make sure. Bill said it's real and possible. Your 2nd set of picts look like pencil. Nice work in finding these!
- LaFern Cusack
Kol, I can't thank you enough! Kol found another post which helps to prove that these are done in pencil. I had my doubts about a few of them because I collected them from several different sites over time, but the site Kol found has done a great job pulling together an impressive collection of these drawings and more. Take a look - http://www.flickzzz.com/2009...
- Michael Fidler
Actually there are more than what this site shows. There's an entire set with the cats(little cats), which I have, and there's a new portrait set.
- Michael Fidler
Found your post here, Michael. :-) I tried my best to find the artists.
- Kol Tregaskes
Amazing and very very very good.... Very impressive ...
- Linda Zeek-Bobinski
Yeah we know, thanks though, James. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.
- The Wimp
A bell does ring here. And I am remembering why I was so attracted to the tiger...and the lion for that matter. These are exact replicas of prints I had in our bedroom when I lived in Dallas. I had bought the prints (in color) at a department store,
- Melanie Reed
Actually, I have learned quite a bit about these drawing since I made this post. Not only have I discovered all of the artists, but I've learned more about how they are created. They are always copied from a photograph or painting, but usually a photograph. It is extremely time consuming and detail orientated work. There are many other artists besides the ones featured here who practice...

Most of them have portfolio's on deviantart.com and their work is truly amazing even if they are copies of other artists work. I suppose with this level of detail, they have to start with something. Nevertheless, I'm still in awe of their talent. Melanie, the animal prints you refer to are from a very well renowned photographer. The originals are B&W I'll look it up later but I do have...

Has anyone ever corrected the record and pointed out, with the exception of the Charlize Theron drawing, that these are indeed photos by Alexander Von Reiswitz?
- erik weisz
Erik, thank you for bringing this up again, but I think I already mentioned something about this in my prior comment. However, since it appears that you only signed up to friendfeed to leave a single comment, (ok, why?) I will try to summarize what I wrote previously. In brief, I learned after doing a little research that all photo-realistic drawings like the ones that I shared here,...

I can assure you that what are claimed to be drawings of animals, in your post here, are photos. I used a website to that allows you to do an comparison of the Von Reiswitz photos and the images you have posted here. There are no differences. Every hair matches up. As a pencil artist myself I can tell you that it's pretty much impossible to get that kind of accuracy and have it look...

- Iphigenie
I'm amazed that people are still posting these photographs of animals and calling them pencil drawings. This is at least the third case I can remember (and there are probably more) of this happening. The myth about them being drawings was debunked long ago. It's also funny that whenever they get posted the person posting them doesn't make it clear that they aren't the artist, exactly as you have done.
- canadianmaple09
@canadianmaple09 I posted these back in March, 2009 when I was beginning to use FF regularly. I ran them through TinEye hoping to find their source, but it returned no results. When I ran through again yesterday, TinEye returned over four pages of results. If I had it to do over again, would I? Yes
- Michael Fidler
The people you refer do don't join "just to slam" someone, they are concerned members of the online art community that want to see real art appreciated and fake art or photos being passed off as drawings revealed for what they really are. Artists such as Brian Duey, Armin Mersmann, Paul Lung, Zindy Nielsen, and many others do not receive the appreciation they deserve because of scams like this.
- canadianmaple09
canadianmaple09, the worthiness of your motives notwithstanding (and they are worthy, definitely) you could definitely have approached Michael completely differently by say, giving him the benefit of the doubt rather than attacking in a highly accusatory tone.
- Chieze Okoye
When you've seen these same pictures posted multiple times by people that just find them on the internet and claim they are pencil drawings, when it has already been established on multiple occasions that they are not, the "benefit of the doubt" approach seems a little too generous. People post these images and claim they're drawings to get views for their own site or blog or page or whatever it is they post it on. It's wrong and it needs to be stopped.
- canadianmaple09
I can understand that, but you should also keep in mind that everyone is not as well-versed in the issue as you are. All I'm saying is that you would probably be more effective in this case if you weren't setting this up as a us-vs.-them, "must destroy with the validity my argument!" attitude when talking to a guy who's been actively having a discussion on the issue in what seems to me (having been around when he first posted the images and the follow up thread and what not) to be good faith.
- Chieze Okoye
Look at his first comment here. People clearly thought he drew them. He doesn't set the record straight. He also claims that they "are actually pencil drawings" and that "I have more drawings too." Later he claims that you need to look at them closer to see they are drawings and that he will "post the originals". Once again, this makes it sound like they are his. This follows the same...

Greg and Chieze, thanks for your support. I really appreciate it. @canadianmaoles09, for what it’s worth, I share your concerns about giving proper attribution when sharing also. However, I admit that I'm more conscious of it now than I was at the time of this post. Nevertheless, I have never taken credit for anybody's work here other than my own!

BTW, I didn't realize it before, but I just noticed that you're new here too. I hope you like it so far and spend more time here. IMO, friendfeed is still the best thing around!
- Michael Fidler
I would probably qualify as an image analysis expert, but there's no way to prove that online. One thing we can do is look at color. Even though the images are black and white, they're actually RGB images, meaning they contain cyan magenta and yellow. If you look at the image of the rhino you have posted then look at the photo of the rhino at the photographer's site you can see they both...

Yeah, I can't believe the world of twitter hasn't embraced unicode yet. With only 140 chars, using two chars for RT seems like such a waste.

There was a push to use ♻ as the universal retweet symbol but those ASCII fat cats who control Twitter complained about the lack of keyboard support for the symbol. (Edit: looks like people are clinging to it like grim death: http://search.twitter.com/search...)
- Mark Trapp
Paul, will you be enabling us to retweet stuff on Friendfeed or is the "like" through to Twitter the best we're going to get. And will we ever be able to Tweet from Friendfeed without a link to Friendfeed appearing? Thankyou and sorry to hijack your convo but it is Twitter related! :)
- Zee.
The triple retweet is like the second assist in hockey... completely useless.
- Joshua Schnell
We have "re-share" Zee (it's missing from the beta, but it will be back). Why do you not want the ff.im link? We've thought about some option for removing it, but we also rely on it to prevent loops (especially since Twitter often goes to FB), and of course we want to avoid having a big grid of checkboxes next to every feature.
- Paul Buchheit
Am I the only one that read ▲T as delta T (which makes no sense)?

@Paul, the reshare will definitely help but it still doesn't really give credit to the original sharer if it goes through to Twitter. And about the link, it just pissed my followers off because they are given the impression there's more to be seen, a post of some sort but it just ends up being nothing. How about matching by share title, will that work?
- Zee.
@Paul oh and also, it's because Friendfeed is so close to become my one social hub leaving very little reason to visit elsewhere. You've basically got absolutely everything u need to make this a phenomenal Twitter client aside from retweets and tweeting without a link. Just my thoughts anyway...
- Zee.
No, Christopher, it's Three-TWEET not Three-PEAT, and a darned good revival of a dead cliche.
- The Web's Wendell Wittler
I know we're kind of hijacking the comments here, but I think if the original post didn't have a link, the Twitter post shouldn't include an ff.im link either.

"Leading the burn-her-at-the-stake parade is media opportunist Perez Hilton, the self-described gossip queen, and the individual who kick-started this controversy by asking the initial question as to whether the issue of same-sex marriage should be left up to the states. It seems that Hilton, who is gay, was none too pleased that Prejean chose to actually give her personal opinion on the issue, and ripped her on his blog after the show, using crude obscenities as he continued to attack her at every turn on his media blitz. Hey, Hilton, from a real journalist to a wanna-be who traffics in gossip: Never ask a question if you're unprepared for the answer! Frankly, this whole story is pretty stupid. Isn't the whole point of asking a question to get someone's true feelings, rather than the plastic and superficial answers we are all used to receiving? Sure, Prejean could have gone the safe route and given one of those answers that reveal nothing and is hard to decipher -- you know, the ones politicians give "

The most disappointing thing for me, wasn't the response from Miss California, but the rapturous applause from the audience after her comments. Sad to think in this day and age, so many people still want to prevent two people being happy together because they don't like the idea of it.
- Anthony Burns
Agreed. We need to end the current climate where people can't disagree without insults being thrown. I applaud Miss California for giving an honest answer. Note: the best way to ensure that someone you disagree with won't change their mind is to insult them for their belief.
- Rod Bauer
I agree with what's being said in thsi article, which articulates things better than I previously have. Perez Hilton asks a loaded question, is shocked when someone answers honestly with a viewpoint conflicting from his own, rips her apart, and expects us all to agree because he happens to have a blog and eyes on it. Shut your mouth, Hilton - people are entitled to their opinions, and not to kiss your butt to win.
- Mike Nayyar
It seems to me that this country was founded on the premiss of free speech. I for one believe that marriage is between a man and a women. But that does not prevent the state from creating some other type of civil union. The real point here is that Miss California should not have been made to feel like some sort of outcast for expressing her opinion. I believe that she is in the majority
- Zach Scott
The big issue i have (and a lot of others who disagrees with same sex marriage) is the use of the word Marriage. I have no problem with same sex civil unions which give same sex couples the same legal rights. Marriage to me however contains a religious context and that is why i disagree with same sex marriages
- Jamie Vidamour
I think same sex marriages should be legal between two consenting adults. I voted No on Prop 8. I also think that Perez Hilton did a disservice to this movement by vilifying this woman at a beauty pageant and probably robbing her of her crown. It was an inappropriate question to be asked a single contestant at a beauty contest. It's unfortunate that he used this opportunity to convey his own intolerance and to give those opposing same sex marriage valuable ammunition to use in this case.
- Thomas Hawk
@Jamie - the easy next step from there is "let's not legalize religious ceremonies at all". Just make the legal analogue of a marriage a civil union, regardless of the sex of the partners. The ceremony can be called whatever your officiant wants it to be.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
dumb question. bad answer. expected audience response. predictable media thrashing. ultimately, all heat and no light. bummer.
- MikeAmundsen
Jamie, that issue has always unsettled me. If marriage is just a religious context (and which religious context?), then why can heterosexual atheists obtain civil marriages? Why do we have marriages performed in a courthouse and not just in a religious institution? Pretty much what Daniel is saying.
- joey
Pageants are stupid anyway, aren't they?

@Ed I always enjoyed the Swimsuit competition

- Louis Gray
It's not like Facebook does a much better job either
- Richard Lawler
True, Richard. But where else should I centralize my personal data that can be referenced?
- Louis Gray
Oh I agree, if you're gonna advertise to me, it'd be nice if it was something I wanted to buy, but it doesn't seem to work like that. I do get ads for stuff related to bands I'm a fan of on facebook occasionally, but that's it.
- Richard Lawler
Have you looked at the new .tel domains? I bought one. You can put anything about you in it, and set up sub domains for business, or interests or anything. It was only $8.99 a year, and you don't need any hosting for it.
- Ian May
I'm not married. And I rarely care much about the ads shown on websites, other than whether they add a little extra entertainment to the page. But those True girls are generally VERY attractive. And I like it
- Chris Brakebill
Would rather tolerate that ad that's nothing to do with me (then it's easier to ignore), than the ones Facebook targets at me - I mark those all as offensive but they still keep coming.
- Julie Bovee Hill
This is not right at all. We should have the right to unfollow him if we want to. Personally, I'm not following him, but still, THIS IS NOT RIGHT!
- Michael Forian
Okay, I just tried to unfollow, it didn't work. Has anyone tried to unfollow CNN?
- Caffeinated Sue
I was unable to unfollow @aplusk, but I did just unfollow @scobleizer. Just a test ;)
- Ryan Kuder
I tried to unfollow both of them and it gave that Whoops error
- James Rowe
You can't unfollow @cnnbrk either. Wow, this sucks. Twitter's obviously trying to cover their parfaits.
- Michael Forian
Brings new meaning to the term, "default"
- Jesse Stay
Being pretty new to Twitter (two years but very sporadic until the last few weeks) I hadn't heard of @aplusk until today. Anyhow, I went to try to follow him in the last few hours and none of my attempts were successful. My conclusion: the race is rigged by joint PR effort, they want him to break the million just as he appears on Oprah. Or something like that. I have to say that, given it's a free service, I didn't mind too much. But I probably haven't invested as much of myself as Scoble and others here :)
- Richard Drake
Well, the million follower scandal will hopefully show us technical folks what not to do if we ever hit it big. http://twitter.com/aplusk... Hacked really? pfft.
- rob friedman
can't unfollow, but I can still block. Let's all punk him and block him. (I did.)
- Michael Markman
Twitter's TOS: "General Conditions - We reserve the right to modify or terminate the Twitter.com service for any reason, without notice at any time." Wow. This blows big time.
- Michael Forian
blocking makes it so that user when they are logged in, are unable to see your msgs
- rob friedman
I see the TOS. I still don't think it's right they are doing this. They need to make it fair. :( boo..
- Dennis Jackson
I wonder if it has to do with the "aplusk's 1,000,000th follower gets this and that and the other thing" promises that people/organizations like EA are making. By blocking people from unfollowing those accounts, they could be hoping to prevent people from unfollowing right after he hits 1,000,000 and the jockeying to become the "real" 1,000,000th follower that's sure to come.
- Gord McLeod
This is common for users with a lot of followers. I see it with our users on SocialToo all the time - it's some sort of bug in Twitter, assuming it's not a conspiracy.
- Jesse Stay
I just don't see how blocking him does anything.
- Dennis Jackson
Hrm, that certainly takes some wind out of Twitter's sails...
- Trish Ridgway
Ashton is saying on his twitter feed that his account is getting hacking continually. Maybe this is a protective measure?
- Karl Kovacs
Guys, I think I've figured it out: the "unfollow" only takes effect after a few minutes. This applies to both @aplusk and @cnnbrk.
- Michael Forian
After a few minutes? I tried unfollowing Oprah and Ev and those don't work either. I wonder if it's my browser.
- Dennis Jackson
I can't follow him either. It pretends I'm following him, but when I refresh, I'm still not following him. I don't think this is what everyone thinks it is. Seems more like the account state is frozen.
- Cait
I've seen something lke this happen to regular users - follow again, clear browser cache, reload page, try to unfollow again. If that doesn't do it, try blocking. I would never have followed @aplusk in the first place, so I can't perform the test
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Maybe it's a scaling/load issue with their database.
- Gord McLeod
Looking at the stats for @aplusk and @cnnbrk, it appears they maybe working on a tie instead of a win. The numbers have gotten too close to call.
- Karl Kovacs
Karl's got it. Almost certainly a preventative measure in case the accounts get compromised. I'm wondering though... a) Does this take the heat out of Apple's one billion app milestone? and b) Does it really matter because Oprah will storm past both of them (indefinitely) once she starts tweeting.
- Smashing
I was able to unfollow @cnnbrk for sure.I was able to follow @aplusk and THEN I COULD NOT UNFOLLOW @aplusk
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Maybe he paid for that little service. It's one way to monetize Twitter. Then Twitter will charge us to unfollow those people.
- Mary Wehrle
I should block aplusk while I still can! :)
- Morton Fox
FWIW: I first unfollowed @CNNbrk,worked fine then followed @aplusk could not unfollow, blocked @aplusk then followed @CNNbrk and was not able to unfollow @CNNbrk

Surely if CNN actually stated tweeting (they haven't done any since they took over the account) and they put it on their program, they would have a huge surge. CNN isn't taking this seriously. Maybe it is because it isn't!

That's what you get for following any of them in the first place. You keep trying to leave, but they keep pulling you back in.

I personally think this is because to not allow people to unfollow and then follow him back to get a 1millionth follower gifts from EA... my opinion...

When I unfollowed CNNbrk, then followed CNNbrk again later tonight as per my experiment, I could not un follow. no gifts from cnn right?

from twhirl
Mark well I'm sure there could easily be a collaborative effort given the amount of people using the service, and the amount of companies or projects using the firehose, we could easily find new users, and check their followers out, and who they may follow, then give that back to twitter to judge who is "real" or someone. Adding spam watchdog would be easy too since someone already does spam and link checking.
- rob friedman
Someone posted that Twitter disabled the unfollow feature for this jive

Chris: So If I can run a big contest to gain followers I giving away fabulous prizes, Twitter will fuck other people around for me too. Yet another example of Twitter really only giving a damn about the big name stars & companies,
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I wonder how many million follower user accounts it will take before Twitter does something drastic?
- rob friedman
I unfollowed him, the 1st day he made that proposal....what happens when he hits 1MM followers? what next? 1.5MM?
- clarke thomas
Chris: Fabulous Idea! I'm gonna march right down to @ev's office with a bunch of cupcakes and get my refund today! :) heh. -But seriously, its now how I was damaged personally but about how Twitter is making sure there is the "great divide" between the Followed and the Followers. The more they've focused on the stars the less Twitter is about real interactions between real people. This damages the community, and I am sad to see it happen this way
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
I would have been more impressed with Twitter overall if it had taken the opposite approach and shown us what value there is in following ordinary people who have interesting things to say. But instead, they show extreme favoritism towards people who have large draws. Go ahead and ask to see if you can have a special favor from Twitter so that you can draw in an even bigger crowd than you already have. It doesn't hurt you, no, but sure doesn't help you either. What's wrong with wanting equality?
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Nothing's wrong with wanting equality. Internet is becoming just as assymetrical as real life is. The more crowd you already have the less job to take to build even bigger crowd. Sorry, but Twitter can't help you. It's not the matter of Twitter. It's the matter of what kind of people use it and what goal they achieve using it.
- Денис
No Twitter can't help me, or you. But it can and does help: Mashable, Oprah, Jimmy Fallon, Tony Robbins, etc, etc, and now Ashton & CNN. It is a matter of Twitter and what kind of people they strive to attract.
- guruvan (Rob Nelson)
Yet another reason Twitter has launched a high velocity missle over the shark for this user. I'm still using it, but most of my time now is here on FF.
- Mark Traphagen
It's the too big to let fail doctrine applied to social network chosen ones. wow.

Alexandre: I don't think that unfollows; it just keeps his updates from showing in your timeline. So no message sent that way.
- Mark Traphagen
The new "direct messages" feature on beta.friendfeed.com is very popular, so tomorrow we're going to launch a related feature: "passive aggressive messages"
My wife would argue that's the only way I communicate. Not that she listens, mind you.
- caj needs a haircut
If that's the best you can come up with, I guess that's okay. :)
- Stan Scott
twitter beat you to that one. send a message, delete it, it deletes everywhere, even the receipient's stream. recipient deletes, it deletes from sender's stream without permission. passive-aggressive to the max.
- Karoli
Twitter won't do that though - I've asked them specifically. In addition, I'm not so sure developers really *love* the platform. They're forced to deal with it because it's a great wealth of information.
- Jesse Stay
Monetization strategy: get acquired for ~$1B. Facebook should have adopted a similar strategy before everyone learned that social media impressions were effectively worthless.
- Ryan Miller
Google acquire Twitter to get the Geeks. Microsoft acquire Facebook to get the Youth. User monetization irrelevant shareholders invest only for the exit value.
- Thomas Power
"Last Friday Eric Hebenstreit a lead programmer at Microsoft announced that starting from end of April MS will start offering IE8 as an update for users who are still on IE6 or IE7."
- Steve Isaacs
from Bookmarklet
I won't believe it until the darkness has been lifted.
- mikepk
My server logs still say 34% from IE6 visits :((((
- AJ Batac :)
IE 7 was pushed via automatic update; we all see how well that went. Enterprises will install the IE 8 blocker, and IE 6 will continue to persist until those enterprises get away from internal apps that are incompatible.
- Jared Smith
Now, all we need is for network managers to actually run the upgrade so web developers can forget about this blight on the history of the internet!
- Martin Bryant
Why can't internal apps at enterprises be updated for modern browsers instead of legions of web developers around the world having to consider outdated technology just because enterprises can't bring themselves to move on?
- Martin Bryant
Martin, it's not necessarily the fault of the enterprise. if they paid 100k for an app that only worked in IE6, and upgrading will cost another 100k, what would you do?
- chrisofspades
I suppose, but they shouldn't expect all websites to work properly!
- Martin Bryant
haha. My office just pushed IE7 to employees like three weeks ago. It'll be forever before we upgrade to 8.
- Elizabeth Parmeter
the developer should have never built an app that was only going to work in IE. that's the real root of the problem.
- chrisofspades
One of the clients at my work have old ass computers that can't handle newer IE so we have to struggle to fix our sites for IE6. They'll most likely never upgrade :,(

231! terrific, let's ffholic this, that must be #1. ;p
- Zu from AOD
#4 for those interested, great post Zee, the animated gif gave a feeling on that first FF beta day that was inexplicable, modern times type of feeling, that things were changing for the service in interaction gathering. 8}
- Zu from AOD
Louis: I opened your post up and will have to read it later when FriendFeed slows down a bit. I just don't have time to jump off this tab and read an entire blog post. :)
- Lou Paglia
@Mitch: Mouseover on the timestamp for a post to see a new improved permalink.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Mitch; you alread have permalinking. Click the date (11 minutes ago). That's the permalink.
- Robert Scoble
1) The permalink has /louisgray/ in it, great for searching. 2) The permalink is wordier like a good SEO-optimized URL should be.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
There needs to be a keyboard shortcut for pause as well.
- Justin Doub
I'm with Justin - hotkey for pause would be great.
- Joel Bennett
Good list, Louis. Seconding the wish for pause hotkey.
- Kate
But I have to say: direct-message from "anyone" plus direct-message emails ... sounds like a spammers wet-dream. I already have plenty of places where I can get direct messages from strangers (including, believe it or not, by email). All of them have (and need) heavily fortified anti-spam barricades ... why would you want another such here?
- Joel Bennett
All good suggestions - A Specially Big vote for #10 !!
- Ahsan Ali
The realtime UI is a great step forward but could make use of some subtle improvements by way of giving the user better visual about what is updating and when. Perhaps use fade-ins or color changes, to make the realtime-ness smoother.
- Ryan Stanley
Cool list Louis! I'll be reading this later... about to dash out for a PMI board meeting... l8r
- Susan Beebe
Would there be any value in permalinking comments or would this simply be bloat?
- bendi
@bendi; could be interesting, sometimes comments are as or more interesting that the initiating entry. it is always a toss up of commenting on an entry or wondering if your comment on that particular entry is "entry worth" itself
- Lou Paglia
I hope the sharing links through the mainfeed, just like some other features, just didn't make it in the beta version yet...
- Sanne Buurma
FF as a twitter client? not for me: twitter is a client to my friendfeed platform. how can I skip twitter entirely? I want 'post to facebook' pipe (too).
- jacek
@jacek, just link up twitter to facebook, and then your comments on FF will appear on twitter, and will then in turn appear on facebook.
- Jordan Brock
...they should have done this on a Friday. A Monday release just KILLS any productivity!
- JA Castillo
That is a small problem, productivity dropped to 0 ...
- Paul Jacobson
Agree ... just missed a meeting by ...ugh... 15 minutes ?! I'm outa here
- Charlie Anzman
OMG i'm seriously thinking of blocking Alp cause he's Liking anything and EVERYTHING and knocking all the news up and down to the point where nothing is readable for a split second. :)
- Glenn Batuyong
shiat! Putting someone in a different list filter doesn't stop their Liking behavior. It still causes all the stories to jump all over the place while they click click click click
- Glenn Batuyong
"The problem isn’t finding news, the problem is finding news thats relevant and interesting to you and to the community around you…ie: the world."

i love BurnURL, not quite sure about the moods, but not my call, and its still a great great url abbreviator/shortener! http://burnurl.com/
- chaz2b
Example, I find a lot of things interesting that my wife thinks are simply too geeky. She'll read celebrity stuff, which I find very boring for the most part. It takes all sorts.
- Ian May
@Ian - that's sorta the idea though. We can use that data - what you find interesting/boring to suggest content (down the road anyways).
- Adam Ostrow
"We've been listening to your feedback about the FriendFeed notifier, and we've added some new options. Now you can get a notification whenever someone comments on one of your posts. There's also an option to only receive notifications for comments from your friends."
- Bret Taylor
from Bookmarklet
I would have known this if it wasn't for FeedBurner! :)
- Louis Gray
Sweet, now I want a plus button that lets me create additional notification rules. Why pick a single group to focus on out of all the groups I have created? Imagine Outlook or GMail having ten folders but only one sorting rule.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Daniel - I think you can get around this by creating a special "FF notifier" list, and putting subscriptions you want to be notified about into that list. And then just subscribe to that "FF notifier" list in the FF notifier.
- Ivan Zuzak
Thanks, Bret. I'd still love an option for getting notified whenever someone comments on something I've commented on. I'm sure Kevin can come up with better wording for that if you decide to implement it. =)
- Tom Stocky
That's certainly a workaround Ivan, but it would be better if my existing lists had the power.
- Daniel J. Pritchett
Slight bug, at least on mine. The saved position of the settings window doesn't match that of the pop-up nortification window as before. The pop-up window is a little to the left compared to where I save the settings window. :-( I'm trying to save this in the bottom left of my second screen but it overlaps onto the first screen. So by trial and error I've got it in the right place now.
- Kol Tregaskes
Love. Would just also love a mute/hide option for the conversation.
- Christopher Galtenberg
memory usage of around 30mb compares well to other air apps

People may characterize me a curmudgeon, but you haven't seen me really curmudgeony until April Fool's day. In an information economy, April Fool's is like the AIG of holidays.
- Mark Trapp
We opted for Matrix rather than April Fools celebrations. Very happy with that decision :)
- Bret Taylor
I will go offline (or almost) for the next 24 hours, I think. I can hear about "the best April Fools jokes" on April 2nd....
- Bora Zivkovic
True, and with so many bloggers now getting access to more and more eyeballs it is getting even more annoying.
- Svetlana Gladkova
from twhirl
I say it every year. Don't read news on April 1st. And now with that blasted worm, the misinformation will be amplified.
- Bwana ☠
But here's the deal, #aprilfools bashers. It can act as an inoculation of sorts. The *temporary suspension* of the social norms that work against social engineering exploits is a Good Thing. It provides a relatively safe, unique window into collective human behaviour that gives white hats a chance to observe the anatomy and mechanics of a scam. It's R & D on ourselves.
- Micah
The Onion makes it seem so pointless now
- Rodfather
Rodfather, but that's the Onion's day-in-day-out job. The challenge for them would be to present non-fake news in a surprising/compelling/ironically unironic way just one day per year.
- Micah
According to Amazon, there are now 52 billion objects in S3. How many objects do you estimate there are in Gmail? (assuming messages and attachments each count as an "object") Assume 100,000,000 users (according to comscore, I think). Also, don't confuse the median for the mean.
1.2 trillion, ignoring items identified as spam.
- Kevin Fox
Assuming an average of 5000 messages in an account, of which 1% have attachments, that'd be about 500 billion objects. I'm not really confident in my estimates, however. I figure after any amount of use, you're probably up to a couple thousand messages in Gmail (at least), but then you'd have to take into account power users with tens of thousands of messages and the mass of accounts that probably have nothing in them.
- Mark Trapp
I use two accounts, one has 216,158 threads/conversations in "All Mail" (mostly 1 or 2 messages each), and the other has 62,834 (but many have 10s or 100s of messages + attachments).
- Paul Buchheit
Don't worry everyone, I deleted, like, a hundred emails from my gmail account, so there's probably LOADS of space now :)
- Iain Baker
I tried to figure this out just now, but couldn't find the right dashboard. It's not as easy as one would think. :) Maybe Jorg will step in and say something....
- Steve and 3 other people
Well, assuming I'm a typical user and I have about 570,000 emails, that's 57 trillion objects.
- Gabe
Of course 99% of the objects in Gmail are spam!
- Gabe
Probably not Gabe, since the spam is auto-deleted after 1 month. Your account may be an exception though :)
- Paul Buchheit
Time to pull out the HP, engineering pad, and start playing around with some Pareto distribution equations...
- Ken Sheppardson
Of course my account is an exception, Paul. My account is 99.7% spam! That percentage is only so low because the spam is deleted after 30 days.
- Gabe
Are you trying to compare the two? Because S3 is paid binary storage while gmail could be looked at as more databasey.
- Hayes Haugen
Hayes, they are probably more similar that you realize. In both cases, a large fraction of the data is images and music.
- Paul Buchheit
The majority of my emails do not have attachments. The byte size of the attachments are larger than the emails themselves. Google actively encourages me not to delete things. However, anything we place on S3 should matter and be deleted when no longer needed because we (all AWS customers) have to pay for it. I think they are both interesting numbers - and I was surprised how low that S3 figure is - but do think they are different beasts.
- Hayes Haugen
Wondering if Gmail optimizes storage of binary objects sent to mailing lists. I think that would make a big difference. All those HTML emails with embedded images add up quickly - store the image once and reference it from X million accounts reduces the number of items by enough to be significant.
- Nick Lothian
I literally shouted 'HOLY FUCK' when I first did it... Rachael came over, gave me that 'really?' look and sat back down on the couch... (That happens a lot :P )

When Josh Haley wakes up, he is gonna loose his shit!!!

Scared me a bit there. I was like, my screen! it's melting! Then when I saw the mouseover text, I knew what they were talking about. Well played. bf & I were just marveling not long ago that the movie was almost 10 years old. talk about starting to feel aged...
- Kamilah Reed (K. Gill)
Let me make this very clear. I want the pill that lets me stay here and taste yummy food. I don't want to know the truth. I, for one, welcome our robotic overlords.
- Cyrus Lendvay
I noticed that this morning - along with all the "I bet a billion people will post about this" whiny posts LOL
- Mona Nomura
So when is everyone going to take he red pill? What is one "truth" that you believe is hidden in the matrix, but people would think you are nuts if you said it out loud? Post your answer here http://qrv.qlnk.net/
- Christian Burns
I just saw it as I was clicking the logo, now it's gone. I must've just caught it.

Just realized, FriendFeed is run by the Robot Army from the Area 01. Humans can't pull of this so easily.
