http://jezlyn.posterous.com I really like using it to feed content to my Wordpress blog and other sites at the same time. It's the only easy way I know of to e-mail posts "to" my Wordpress.com blog.

Kol - it's great how one FF post can start a little movement. I've used it more today than since I signed up whenever a long time ago. Thanks.
- phil baumann
@phil couldn't you do the embed feature... ? post something to posterous.. and then 'edit' the post and paste the embed? Or maybe simply email it?
- Sean
Phil, click on the 'Share' link of the FF entry, then copy the embed code. Create a new Posterous entry, select HTML mode and paste in the embed code. You'll need to edit the width and height (looks like 500 for width). Then post. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Don't forget to tag your posts like this ((tag: posterous, friendfeed)) in the subject line of your emails. That way your posts will be seen easier by all other Posterous users when they use the global posterous search.
- Svartling
Kol, yes I see.. I added it, I guess Twitter does not have anything but javascript and flash widgets.. It doesnt matter, since I autopost to twitter there is a button there..

How do you all add the little twitter and friendfeed images with links to your profiles here on posterous. I don't know the code to do that. :( Help when u can.
- Amani
http://mylescrew.posterous.com/ Right now I'm just testing, the import from Blogger was REALLY easy. I'm trying to "port" BlurbBits (http://ff.im/4tlY2) to make them work better on posterous. The iframe style parameter gets removed, which is different than Blogger (there is *always* something).
- Chris Myles
Amani, the little images for twitter etc you get if you autopost to those sites but you might end up with duplicate posts that way. There is a friendfeed badge you can put in your posterous profile at http://friendfeed.com/embed... use the image format, not javascript.
- David Gross

Check out Wayne Suttons Posterous (he posted his URL in this thread). You see that he has changed some colors. That is a private beta feature that is coming soon to the public.
- Svartling
http://lizasperling.posterous.com/ Thanks - you are making this a very helpful Sunday:) AND for those of you trying to embed other images, etc...I did it in my profie and mash in friendfeed, zemanta, gmail, wisestamp,etc..FUN - happy to help.

YOU are a great example of engaging followers and using tools to help us connect in many other ways. THANK YOU.

@koltregaskes, my posterous is at http://alexschleber.posterous.com "Quick Hits Business Mindhacks". Had been using it quite a bit the first 6 months of this year. I'm a big fan of Garry & Sachin, but really wish posterous would hurry up with some of the much needed feature upgrades (skins and/or CSS, Retweet button - just use Tweetmeme, custom sidebar HTML, WYSIWIG bookmarklet, etc.) Seems like they're stalling a bit right now, no?
- Alex Schleber
They have to be careful not to mess with the simplicity of it, though; that's why so many people like it. If they tart it all up, it might as well just be Tumblr. Which already exists.
- NNR
from email
@koltregaskes weird that you're "what's your GReader/Posterous/FB?" entries from the last few days seem to presage in a way what happened today..
- Alex Schleber
Keep 'em coming, I'll add you all later today. :-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Thank God for this thread. I'm going to (slowly) subscribe to all the people I'm subbed to on FF. I have a hunch posterous is going to replace part of the puzzle for me. Thanks Kol.
- Ahsan Ali
I tried a post asking everyone to share their Google Reader shared items link, but I guess I don't have many followers. Maybe you can?
- Mahendra (SkepticGeek)
My url is http://dave6.posterous.com I just tried out the "((nogallery))" feature that lets you post pictures not in gallery format by putting ((nogallery)) in email subject http://dave6.posterous.com/where-d... only problem is that it takes a while to load pictures if not using really high-speed internet.

surely someone has figured out how to add Friend connect to posteorus...keep searching, and love the cool mashups, but no Friendconnect....
- Liza + = ?
Wish the RSS import into FriendFeed worked a little better. Would make Posterous more useful to me.
- Kol Tregaskes
What's wrong with the RSS feed? that's the whole reason I use Posterous, is because the RSS feed import to FF works so well.
- Glen, on vacation
I've tried a couple today and the images don't come in and the imported text is messy. Works just fine in Google Buzz so if I could work out while my import is messy in FF then it would be a viable option for posting a few articles to both FF and Buzz in one click.
- Kol Tregaskes
what do you have in posterous that you don't have on tumblr? anyway, friendfeed has problems all the time, unfortunately we're losing it :(
- Flavio
hmm.. Kol, ever try doing it the other way? Have posterous push to friendfeed.
- David Gross

hmm.. I have problems with posterous too.. I forward stuff from email and it messes up the formatting. It just took a 5 picture funny and juggled the pics, how will people get a laugh out of a messed up joke?;( I went to blogger, tumblr and posterous to edit.. I have to do often.

Pretty much. I was polling people about something, but I guess I could go... uh...

I am mainly curious to see if Google/Feedburner will automatically tweet my new blog post now. That's why I even found out, because I checked.
- Louis Gray
Yes, Atul. (See the Google Reader share on my feed)
- Louis Gray
Louis - my bad. Was lazy not to scroll down to the bottom of the screen :)
- Atul Arora
...and I'm sure FriendFeed, Facebook, and Google Reader are seeing increased traffic just right now.
- Claudio Sennhauser
I got an error from DISQUS when I posted to your blog

Totally. Where else we gonna go? FriendFeed is, in that sense and to some people, like Twitter's less hot but totally more willing friend. Dang.
- Jolie O'Dell
Ankush, I got your comment, successfully.

Tech Crunch: "Update III: It is suggested that if you use the same password on your Twitter account with other accounts, now would be a good time to change your password on those other accounts. Because of the scale of this hack, it can only be assumed right now that Twitter has been completely compromised."
- David Damore
Louis, yes, it's practically required now - MaryB voted on it!
- Micah
Somehow, I just got a new Twitter follower 1 minute ago. :)
- Louis Gray
Well not completely. For my main use of Friendfeed, it's not. I use FF to update Twitter accounts (several) from Yahoo Pipes, and it stopped working almost 24 hours ago.
- Ignace Rodriguez de R,
I would use it to make notes on the books I read on kindle. Select a paragraph I find of interest, notes on something I want to research further, reference for tweets, posts I would make on the subject. For instance, currently reading Tear Down This Myth on kindle. Would love to have notes on this I could reference from Evernote.
- Dinah
To the new Kindle DX, I would send (or retrieve) the PDFs now stored in Evernote. If Evernote integration were listed as a feature, I would probably be clicking the final button to buy the KDX.
- Ken Morrill
@Dinah - Is there a way to have the Kindle mail your notes? You could use the email address provided with your Evernote account to slurp them in. I can't remember how the Kindle exports them.
- Lindsay
@bluecockatoo that's a great idea! I work for a church that is trying to find a way to distribute the music we've written in pdf form to the performers.... using evernote to storethem, then emailing them out and accessing it via a Kindle... great now I have to go order one to play with.
- Jim Edwards
Does the Kindle read RSS feeds? Public notebooks generate RSS feeds.
- Peter van Teeseling
I am not sure I really want to merge my accounts!
- Rachel R.
Does anyone really know what the implications are?
- MoTO Poppet
I'm sure the tech blogs will be analyzing this for weeks. Not sure what the integration will look like.

I have a facebook account because many of my friends and work associates do. It's the only way to keep up with some of them. But I'm rarely on it. I use FriendFeed a lot more (as in, on a daily basis). Not sure I want to mix my chocolate with my peanut butter
- MoTO Poppet
If friendfeed turns into facebook, I'm going to hate it...
- Sung W. Lim
Urgh, why does this not feel like good news to me. FF staff become FB staff. FB will get priority. I don't want to mix my personal (FB) life with my work (FF) life at all thanks.

FriendFeed has been almost completely blocked in Iran as far as we can tell. We have a large number of very active Iranian users, and we noticed a steep decline in activity yesterday. Graph below.
Bret: Is this based on IP numbers located in Iran, or actual activity from those users? If it's IP based, it'd be interesting to see the activity on a user basis and see if they've been able to route around the blocking.
- Ken Sheppardson
If Twitter were blocked and FriendFeed weren't, I'd expect an uptick in FriendFeed activity, not a 92% drop.
- Kevin Fox
I.e. given all the users who've previously accessed the site from an Iran IP number, how many have been active from different numbers in the past 2 days.
- Ken Sheppardson
Instead of "liking" this, shouldn't we have an "unlike" button?
- Steven Melfi
:( Bret: According to Stephen fry, these are the iran proxies: 218.128.112.18:8080 218.206.94.132:808 218.253.65.99:808 219.50.16.70:8080 . Can you track these IPs?
- Roberto Bonini
I knew this day was coming. Too bad.
- Robert Scoble
Steven - same feeling here. I always feel weird "liking" bad stories on FF
- Mike Bracco
How does traffic from China look? Or North Korea?
- τorƍue
Kheyzaran mentioned over the weekend that both Twitter and FF were blocked for Iran starting I believe on Friday. He is using a proxy when possible to keep us updated
- FFing Enigma
Bret, any analysis about how many people unable to access FF directly are still able to access it via proxy?
- Daniel Dulitz
Daniel: Well, we are still getting a bunch of Farsi comments and posts. They may be Persians from outside Iran or from Iranians using proxies. We don't have a detailed analysis breaking those down at this point.
- Bret Taylor
all cominucation devices are blocked .even phone & cell phones !
- MohammadReza
Watching the "guerrilla cyberwarfare" aspect of the elections and reactions has been fascinating. Iran's universities are obviously full of resourceful, passionate geeks.
- John Craft
this is really bad. i hope there's some resolution to this. the people or iran have shown a lot of strength and courage to protest the illegitimacy of recent events. i don't think this will stop things
- Cee Bee

- فرزاد
I'm completely for having a fair vote, but I'm not sure that I'd want to try and align FriendFeed with a particular candidate, which is what a green logo would imply.
- Kevin Fox
Many iranians using proxies to access FF. and therefore their IPs changes to fake IP .

If Iran thinks they have nothing to fear, then why block Friendfeed?
- Frode Stenstrøm
Frode: because the government is like China: they believe that by retarding the flow of information they will reduce the threat of protests and governmental overthrow.
- Robert Scoble
Very reminiscent of the prelude to the fall of the Shah
- Alan Morris
I don't speak Persian, so I don't know all the searches, but there are still (luckily) a lot of Persian users posting: http://friendfeed.com/search.... If you are Persian and looking for updates, try our search engine to find the few users who still have access.
- Bret Taylor
Frode: and in Iran's case, they are run by conservative religious authorities and they don't like the fact that they are not in control of information flow like they used to be. They like to think they can still control information sources and, since they can't, they try to block places where their citizens can go to share information.
- Robert Scoble
is it a joke? iranian users seems the %90 of friend feed. it could not be real!
- Fırat Demirel
Firat: There are no units on the vertical axis of the chart.
- Ken Sheppardson
Firat: This is a chart of traffic from Iran, not of FF's total traffic.
- Kevin Fox
Firat, i doubt that this graph is a percentage graph... probably more likely that it's measuring hits, sessions, or total data transfered (mb, kb, etc)
- Chris Heath
Kevin: what impact did this have on FF's overall traffic?
- Robert Scoble
Robert: Iran is the #6 country for FriendFeed in terms of page views per day.
- Bret Taylor
Thanks all for answers. i told that it could not be real.. :) excuse me, i ve just read Bret's notice and looked at breaking point. i saw what i've missed before.. bad news for ff and iran.. :(
- Fırat Demirel
These statistics are incredible, especially the normally heavy useage of FF in Iran.
- Curt Mercadante
Bret Taylor, we can tag our pix and vids about iran election by an english keyword such as 'iran' or 'iranelection'. I think it will help to ff non-persian users to find out more about unrests in iran.

Iran restored cell phone service Sunday that had been down in the capital since Saturday. But Iranians still could not send text messages from their mobile phones, and the government increased its Internet filtering in an apparent attempt to undercut opposition voices. Social networking sites including Facebook and Twitter were also not working.
- Üstün Üzüm
martin: those words are not mine actually from a news article from washinton post.

On twitter people are retweeting the IPs and ports of unblocked proxies, can we do something like that here?
- Canageek

- آدمیرال
yes Canageek. we use proxies for tweeting
- آدمیرال
Authorities blocking the internet are just reinforcing solidarity between people, can't they understand ?
- stanjourdan
Stanislas: not to mention they encourage their smartest and richest people to leave (the ones who have technical skills). There's a reason why Silicon Valley has 10,000 or more Iranians living here. Their government sucks and the people are getting tired of it. Of course if their government was great I would never have met my wife (who grew up in Tehran). So, there is good to come out of a crappy government! :-)
- Robert Scoble
it has always seemed to me that the iranian user base is ENORMOUS here. wow. unbelievable.
- edythe
It is interesting how much civil unrest that is brewing across the globe towards their governments. The knee jerk reactions in attempting to block certain websites shows how much they didn't expect the net to become such a widespread conduit for cutting through the bs and informing those that wish to know. I wish those who take a stand all the best.
- alphaxion
Another way for those that are in Iran is to access through Netvibes (but I don't know if it works or if it's blocked too), adding Friendfeed, Gmail and so on such as modules
- Roberto
Thanks for sharing this, Bret. It's valuable evidence of what's going on, evidence which wouldn't have been available even a few years ago.
- Michael Nielsen
Very interesting...so much for democracy and voting rights in Iran...

If anybody in Iran feels up to it, can you temporarily disable your proxy and run a traceroute to friendfeed.com and twitter.com then post the results here?
- EricaJoy
Bret and Paul, can you let us know if the traffic comes back, which would tell us they've unblocked FriendFeed?

Yes, Friendfeed is blocked in Iran. Right now the papers and TV channels here are controlled by the government and our access to satellite channels is blocked too. Friendfeed and Twitter are quite vital for us now. Our main source of exchanging information and news is Friendfeed. Via Friendfeed we let everyone know that where people need help and where to go and how to help them and...

The Iranian websites that people used to exchange information about the election protests in Iran are under cyber-attacks by the government forces and from anonymous sources. Many of them are down right now. These Iranian websites were our few last remaining channels to inform people. What can we do about that? Is there anyone out there who can help us with this?

i was 53rd active user in friendfeed until this filtering. now i can open FF with proxies and if i can fine. a Vpn but many Vpn here come from companies that have relations with security services, i thunk they allow us to bypass filternig and then, they will arrest who has wrote against their goals
- اکانت قدیمی خیزران
Can't we transfer the data/databases of the sites you, iranian guys, use to any new domain we could buy? I want to help. Not by throwing rocks to "security service" forces, but, at least, by making possible for what YOU have to say to go public, worldwide.

Selma: 1- I don't use a proxy but clearing all but one (deleting them all logs me out) instance of each friendfeed.com cookie name and refreshing the page always solves this for me in Firefox. Has never happened on Lunascape or IE. Good luck.
- Alexandros Georgiadis
The reason I ask is because if you can email a post, then try sending it to share@friendfeed and also to YourUserName@friendfeed. Then when someone comments you'll receive an email about it and you can comment back to the thread via email as well.

Just curious if anyone has tried TweetCaster from Handmark yet. It's a new client for the BB. It's free. It's pretty. It's slow on my Curve 8320. I can usually only see 2 tweets per screen tops (which is pretty annoying). UberTwitter is not nearly as pretty but I can get so much more info on the screen.

Guys, how do you organize your Google Reader feeds? I can't find the best way to do that! My greader is madness, and now I want to do a cleanup but I want to know the best way to organize feeds. HELP!!
I have about ten folders with broad categories and one for fast news which is the one that gets old quickly, the others can wait and I don't mind if they accumulate articles.
- M F
Group everything like you have done. I then have a folder with just the 5 or so feeds I read daily. The search function means you can be quite broad with your categories. Like M F above says really.
- Toby Graham
I don't need to organize my feeds: I subscribe only to must-read full-text feeds, I toggle full screen mode (u), I read quickly by hitting j/k, I star articles that deserve further reading (s), I share (shift+s) or email (e). So far it's a perfect process for me. I don't bookmark & label Friendfeed entries, why should I do so in Reader? (I actually put my feed in broad categories when subscribing, but it's only for stats)
- Jérôme
I didn't know about full-screen-mode. Thanks for the tip Jérôme.
- Fred Yankowski
I see.. So, the first thing I need to do, is delete most of the feeds that I don't usually read..
- Leandro Ardissone ⍨
My categories are: crafts, friends (actual blogs of RL friends), entertainment, lost (tv show), tech, web

Alt+F4, then open Friendfeed. It's what I did.
- Josh Haley
This is a good question. I'm enjoying the feedback. Personally, I have my feeds organized by topic (i.e. Higher Ed, News, Technology, etc.) as well as by priority (Priority 1, 2, and 3). This allows me to easily locate my most important feeds when my account gets out of control. All others are marked as read. Each time I add a new feed, it is given a priority as well as a subject tag.
- Adam
I simply put all the feeds I consider must-reads into a folder and leave the rest as is
- LANjackal
I have one folder called ___DAILY READS that's the stuff I read every day. Everything else is filed away like yours. Works for me. Oh and LOVE FEEDLY!!
- sean808080
I have all my feeds in topical folders. Then I open up Feedly. Try it, you'll never look at GReader the same way again.
- Ⓐ ☠ slayerboy ☠ Ⓐ
I all but stopped using Reader. I just have too many items. :(
- Will Higgins™
I organize them by priority to be read so that i adapt the number of entries i read with the time i have to do it. I had previously sorted them by topic, but since i changed i'm more efficient :-)
- stanjourdan
No organization. I just browse down the list and read what catches my interest at the time.

how do you set up viigo for friendfeed? thru rss feeds? I never noticed anything before. Is this something that just came out in a new version?

it's more like a pre populated RSS reader. They just added twitter support and audio streaming for podcasts, but I haven't had the chance to check it out. Whenever I launch it, it eats all my memory, and I cannot use Blackberry Messenger. Didn't see anything for Friendfeed though. **Edit** OK, so I had to remove all the feeds I had set up in a previous version in order to get the app to...

The victim, a 14 year old boy from Groningen, a town 110 miles north-east of Amsterdam, discovered the photo of himself on Google’s street view and realized it also showed his two attackers preparing to rob him. The boy went to police, who had previously been unsuccessful in solving the case and showed them the photo."

"It appears that Google has reserved a million phone numbers from Level 3 for use with Google Voice. This is a very good indication that the company will be opening up its doors for business in the near future. Google Voice will change the way you send/receive phone calls, listen to voicemail, read text messages, etc. When you subscribe to Google Voice, the only phone number that matters is your Google Number — it will forward calls/texts to the phones of your choosing by following certain rules around time of day and contact groups. In addition, it also has a wealth of powerful features that let you do things like listen in on messages and “pick up the line” on a different phone or device without dropping the call."

I LOVE Google Voice. Now I just wish that my contacts would conveniently forget my other phone numbers.

I only pay for last.fm, netflix, and flickr.

The only subscriptions I have are Netflix, Gamefly, and XMRadio. Not sure you'd call any of them online services, though. I'll probably renew flickr when I can more cash flow, though.

Remember the milk, Flickr and Mvelopes. I've been thinking about upgrading to Pandora One but haven't done it yet.

Mike Bracco: What other Mac online backup solutions did you try and what are the features separating Backblaze from others to be the best?
- Berk D. Demir
Berk: I tried Mozy as well and also played around with a friends machine that had carbonite. I like Backblaze b/c is just works...I literally don't have to ever think about it. It was started by some ex apple guys I believe and it can definitely show in the final product. Very few options - it just backs up in the background. It also stores versions of a file so sequential backups are...

Hosting for my blog. Also pay for flickr, but that wasn't really worth it.

Flickr and Remember The Milk. Hosting accounts: Media Temple and Dreamhost.

Evernote is my favorite. It is the one application I will not do without.
- Rob Cairns
Cecily & Mike: I've tried Mozy, Carbonite, Backblaze, iDrive and settled with Mozy for no obvious reason. Pretty much they are all the same. A very similar software, same slow initial backup process, versioned backups, easy restore, scheduling and background backup features, bandwidth throttling, being easy with the system resources and close yearly fees: $49.50 (iDrive: 150GB), $50...

I must have tried Evernote five times, but can't really get what is SO useful about it. Maybe it's the "how" - can someone direct me to how they use it and why it's useful to them? As far as paid apps, Pandora, Carbonite and Extra Storage on Google. That's it.
- Vince DeGeorge
Vince: check out Evernote's blog http://blog.evernote.com/ as well their tumblr blog http://evernote.tumblr.com/ They have some great use cases on both sites. Maybe that will spark some ideas on how to utilize it. It's one of those things where you have to kind of be conscious of it and make yourself use it - then after a while it naturally becomes part of your workflow - at least that is how it worked for me.
- Mike Bracco
Was forgetting Animoto for which I will subscribe very soon
- Bertrand Doux
Thanks for those, Mike, very helpful. I think you're right... I just need to make an effort to get it into my workflow. I think it may work well to document ASP.NET snippets I use often (maybe).
- Vince DeGeorge
Vince: Yeah and what's helpful as Evernote progresses is that the service is getting faster and better integrated into the OS - which makes it less obtrusive and easier to work in.
- Mike Bracco
Its got to be Evernote, Flickr and Skype. Noticing a lot of love for Evernote on this list
- Robert Davies
For all you Evernote peeps, if you're not already in it, we have a pretty active room on FF: Feel free to join us! http://friendfeed.com/evernot...

Remember The Milk, Flickr. Thinking about subscribing to Evernote but not sure I really need the premium version. If they add export option to their amazing recognition tool, I may switch.

freshbooks is great for small business invoicing. I use Pandora One also and Remember The Milk. trying Action Method (really good!)

Spotify.com, ProvideSupport.com, EverNote.com and soon e-tipi.com :-)
- Elian Chrebor
@elian what does Spotify premium brings? I would subscribe for an offline and/or iPhone feature. E-tipi probably but I hope you won't have to pay ;)
- Jean-Charles VERDIE
Can someone tell me what lynda.com does? And what do you get extra with a paid Pandora account?
- Mark Traphagen
Mark: Lynda offers professional video tutorials or classes on pretty much any software imaginable (classes are streamed in browser via QuickTime and range anywhere from 2-12 hours. Pandora One is the pay Pandora account. It offers more skipping per day, double the bit rate quality (192 - huge difference from free account) and also a longer timeout period.
- Mike Bracco
I thought the bit rate quality with Pandora One wasn't going to be a big deal but it's night and day...big difference.
- Mike Bracco
I only pay for one at this point: Flickr. I am considering Evernote as well.
- Adam
Likely Evernote. still test driving it.
- Carolyn Chan
No test driving necessary for me, now a premium subscriber :)

giganews unlimited usenet for $25/mo is always tempting
- Mike Chelen
Other than my Web hosting, I don't have any paid subscriptions to online services that I can think of. I tend to gravitate toward ad-supported free services.
