LaBounty Entrepreneur Competition
The LSBE Entrepreneurship Club is holding it's first Entrepreneur Competition, thanks to the generous support of the LaBounty Entrepreneurship Center. They publicized it to the students, but I realized that faculty should be aware of this, as well, so that you can encourage interested undergraduate students (of any major - this is not restricted to LSBE students). The first phase of the process was to submit one-page Concept Summaries, which were judged by one entrepreneur, one banker, and two investors (3 of whom were UMD Alumni). We awarded three $100 prizes last night, and the students were very excited about the whole process. We are encouraging all of them to submit feasibility studies, but we are also opening up the contest to anyone else who wants to submit a feasibility study, even if they did not enter the Concept Summary portion of the contest. We will be holding feasibility workshops during the week of Feb. 15 (on Feb. 15 and Feb. 19) so please encourage any students whom you know have a business idea they would like to pursue, to attend one of the workshops and submit a feasibility study on April 8, for a possible $1000 prize (up to 3 prizes will be awarded). An email with details will be sent to the students, or you can pass this information on to any interested student, and they can contact me. For your information, these were the three business ideas that were awarded $100 each for their Concept Summaries - please congratulate these students: The winners were: 1 - Vertical Science System (on-line training system) Eric LaBelle 2 - RevitaLife Health and Fitness Center (more than just a fitness center) Amanda Lien and Danielle Peterson 3 - Celebrations (event planning service) Casey Larson Regards, Pat Borchert - A.D.
