RE: Important Spring 2010 CARE Announcements for LSBE Students The student representatives on CARE have said the best way to communicate important information about scholarships and awards in LSBE is through faculty. Therefore, please make the following announcements regarding this semester in your classes early the week of February 8, 2010 (the attached Power Point highlights these points that you may use as well). We’re trying to reach as many students as possible. THANK YOU!!! ********************************** • The LSBE Undergraduate Scholarship Applications are due *Friday, February 12*. Access the online application form on the LSBE web page under the “Students – Awards & Scholarships” link (https://lsbe.d.umn.edu/). There are approximately 60 scholarships available and most are worth $1000 for next year. A current resume is required to complete the application. • FinnFest Scholarship applications for 2010-2011 are available in the Office of Development in 320 Darland Administration Building. Eligible students will be full-time juniors, seniors, and graduate students as of fall 2010, who are in good academic standing and demonstrate some financial need. Preference will be given to students of Finnish heritage and to those from Northeastern MN and Northwestern WI. Applications are due April 19. • A Student Showcase will accompany the LSBE Awards this year. Departments and club advisors will be nominating outstanding student projects from the past year for possible inclusion in the Showcase that will be held in the LSBE Atrium. Students selected will display their work and be publicly recognized. All students are invited to attend to support your classmates or see what you might be doing in future classes. The Showcase precedes the LSBE Awards on Friday, April 30 from 3-4 p.m. • The LSBE Community Service Excellence Award recognizes students who will have volunteered 100+ hours between April 2009 and March 2010.
