"A new class-action lawsuit claims Apple knowingly profited from faulty iPhone 3Gs that couldn't stay connected to the faster 3G network, costing buyers inferior service and missed opportunities to use an alternative provider. California resident Jason Medway filed the 14-page complaint in a Northern California court this week on behalf of himself and thousands of other California customers who purchased the iPhone 3G. The suit revives claims that the smartphone, launched last June, has a defect that keeps it from maintaining a signal on AT&T's 3G network. Medway alleges Apple is aware of the problem yet continues to advertise the device's high speed while ignoring complaints and requests to remedy the situation. "Despite knowledge that the iPhone 3G cannot maintain consistent 3G service, defendant continues to solicit new orders in a multimillion-dollar television and print advertising campaign for the iPhone 3G," the complaint says. "Apple simply replicated the problems by providing consumers with r"

I've been very disappointed with Apple's 3G speeds in the SF Bay Area and would get pissed off every time I'd see an Apple ad on CNBC showing lightening fast 3G speeds that were nowhere near close to reality.
- Thomas Hawk
From what I experienced during my stay in San Francisco last year, I'd blame AT&T rather than Apple. But apparently there are some reports of the iPhone 3G having problems over here in Europe too...
- Holger Eilhard
RE: "lightning fast 3D speeds" - I never though of 3G as fast at the best of times! I've never noticed the problem in the UK, but 3G coverage is so patchy that I'd probably put any drop-outs down to me moving out of a reception area.
- Ade Rowbotham
Scott, you realise there are countries on the world where 3G availability isn't an issue anymore? ;-) But in case of the USA you're probably correct.
- Holger Eilhard
yes, the problem is probably with AT&T, but Apple should have either required AT&T to get 3G speeds where they needed to be or stop running those ridiculous commercials that showed lightening fast speeds on 3G. Apple claims that people should know better, it's only an ad. But I know I at least really thought (hoped?) I'd end up with those speeds and I got nothing like those at all in SF.
- Thomas Hawk
"Apple claims that people should know better, it's only an ad.".. that's their defense? "Everybody knows we lie through our teeth"... I think they need a better lawyer. ;-)

Of course this path is not for everyone. There will be many who prefer to be purely technological pioneers, hired guns, salaried engineers, or weekend dabblers. This is only natural, and these people play an important role too, especially in advancing technical innovation. But there will be a few who love the idea that the poets of today and tomorrow can write beautiful and provocative poems in code and publish them online. And this talk is really for them.

Post your Amazon.com Wishlist here: What's the number one thing from your wishlist that you want right now? Mine is the 39 mp Hasselblad digital camera with lens for $38,000, anyone want to buy it for me? http://www.amazon.com/gp...
http://www.amazon.com/gp... - Mine has always been fairly practical, but the No. 1 item for me is a walking around lens: Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS.
- Avelino Maestas
Egads TH, where in the world do you think you'll find someone with pockets deep enough (and with enough goodwill) to buy you that camera? It's more expensive than a very nice car... Not so sure I want to post my wishlist like this, either. Don't want to make anyone feel like they owe me anything. But if you find someone to buy that camera for you, let me know please. I'm very curious to see what happens with that.
- Raoul Pop
i already know what i need... a fast computer/laptop

I'm teasing about someone buying me the Hasselblad Raoul. I will buy one someday though :) I love medium format photography and it's a pretty bad ass camera.

Derek, the 70-200 f/2.8 IS is a gorgeous lens. Heavy, but gorgeous. Just used it two weekends ago for a business conference. Oh, what awesome portraits I got with it, and the bokeh was unbelievable.
- Raoul Pop
I've got the 70-200 f/4 and don't really like it. I should have spent more and bought the f/2.8.
- Thomas Hawk
Send me you Paypal and I'll buy it for you immediately... Bwahahahaha
- jjprojects
sure I will buy it for you. First I need your bank account # so I can transfer $50,000 in to it. Buy your item and then send me the change :-)

I have 8 wishlists (I break them down by "genre," as it were. This is my camera list: http://www.amazon.com/gp... Most expensive item: Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor Lens $2495.00
- Dawn M. Armfield
Dawn, that drobo on your list is awesome. I've got three now. Highly recommended as a high quality replicated photo backup device. Greg, my bank account number is... oh, nevermind.
- Thomas Hawk
segway. i can't bring myself to buying, but i so want one!
- Jeremy Toeman
I'd say a digital medium format camera would be up there somewhere, yes.
- Ade Rowbotham
Jeremy, you'd look good on a Segway.
- Thomas Hawk
Russell, the Canon 50mm f/1.4 is probably about the best value for a high quality lens you can buy.
- Thomas Hawk
The Drobo looks sweet, and I will get one eventually. I actually saw it on yours and Raoul's blogs, and read both of your reviews on it. Thus, the wishlist. :-) Russell, I have the 50mm 1.4. Love it. Great lens.
- Dawn M. Armfield
Ha ha! I just ordered the top three things: 5D + two lenses (one, the 15mm fisheye you put on your wish list)! My next item: A Gitzo Explore model tripod with the off-center ballhead. Would have ordered it but B&H is out of stock... So top item on my list now is Canon 100-400 L.
- TranceMist
Your recommendation of the 50mm 1.4 is all I need. lol I am using the wait one day for every $100, but I it is more like one week. Lets see that is 3 months.....

i clicked on an ad on purpose just yesterday! not an RWW one either ...via AlertThingy
- Marshall Kirkpatrick
I do. Especially in areas where I'm new. "Free web based MMOs" are huge click wins for me. The space is too big and it's the only way to build up a small database of world inventory.
- Eric Rice
if the ad is for something I'm interested in, I'll click on it. I'm a huge sucker for a lot of those one line ads that pop up in my gmail - they have real good targetting on those.
- Mark "Rizzn" Hopkins
i click the cool looking ones..totally lame of cos:)
- Paul Moss
I click on clever / well designed ones. Mainly because sometimes I sometimes design them myself and like to think that I will get click karma.
- Ade Rowbotham
I've click on about two banner ads in the last 10 years. One was for a movie (can't remember the movie but it was via blogads) and the other was apple's nytimes thing a few months ago. I click on search ads frequently, if they're written well and tell me "what's in it for me" without BS and don't have a .biz or .info domain. But I'm a skeptical geek, and I realize I'm not everyone else on the web :-)
- Ginger Makela Riker
I like the flash ads that are little games. It's always nice to have a minute of distraction once in a while. :) I don't usually click on these ads though, as I'm not interested in the products most of the time.
