@Jill, make sure you are logged into your Google account and then click on the edit button above the list of names already on the map. You will then see the pushpin in the upper left hand side of the map.

I saw an early alpha of the iPhone app. Looked good. I also saw an early alpha of Seesmic web and the way it advanced between the alpha and launch was dramatic - so I expect the iPhone client will track the same way.

Thanks Enrique, I'll post some more soon. They are a little more obvious than these ones. As Luke points out; without being able to look closely it's impossible to tell. He's right; but up close it's more obvious. I'll upload the originals to Picasa later, and then you'll be able to zoom in with any photo viewer and see for yourselves. Excellent pictures - how long did it take you to scan the photographs into Photoshop and then edit them? The only pencil that has come into contact with these "drawings" is the Photoshop pencil. A tip - stop trying to fool people into thinking you are a "real" artist, because all you are doing is cheapening proper artist's works whom have spent hours creating real pictures as opposed to a few minutes on a graphics editing package.

I'm amazed that people are still posting these photographs of animals and calling them pencil drawings. This is at least the third case I can remember (and there are probably more) of this happening. The myth about them being drawings was debunked long ago. It's also funny that whenever they get posted the person posting them doesn't make it clear that they aren't the artist, exactly as you have done.

@canadianmaple09 I posted these back in March, 2009 when I was beginning to use FF regularly. I ran them through TinEye hoping to find their source, but it returned no results. When I ran through again yesterday, TinEye returned over four pages of results. If I had it to do over again, would I? Yes

The people you refer do don't join "just to slam" someone, they are concerned members of the online art community that want to see real art appreciated and fake art or photos being passed off as drawings revealed for what they really are. Artists such as Brian Duey, Armin Mersmann, Paul Lung, Zindy Nielsen,and many others do not receive the appreciation they deserve because of scams like this.

When you've seen these same pictures posted multiple times by people that just find them on the internet and claim they are pencil drawings, when it has already been established on multiple occasions that they are not, the "benefit of the doubt" approach seems a little too generous. People post these images and claim they're drawings to get views for their own site or blog or page or whatever it is they post it on. It's wrong and it needs to be stopped.

I can understand that, but you should also keep in mind that everyone is not as well-versed in the issue as you are. All I'm saying is that you would probably be more effective in this case if you weren't setting this up as a us-vs.-them, "must destroy with the validity my argument!" attitude when talking to a guy who's been actively having a discussion on the issue in what seems to me (having been around when he first posted the images and the follow up thread and what not) to be good faith.

I would probably qualify as an image analysis expert, but there's no way to prove that online. One thing we can do is look at color. Even though the images are black and white,they're actually RGB images, meaning they contain cyan magenta and yellow. Erhan probably got moved accidentally. When I got to the page, and was moving the map, I accidently grabbed someone and moved them to the middle of the Atlantic. Thankfully, it was someone who used a special icon, so it was easy to search and put them back.

Just an addendum to Spidra's explanation: To go back and edit, click the pushpin then click the "Edit" button (look waaay to the left on the page). Then you can click the icon to change, and you'll see Save button next to "Edit"

I understand the value of patents – offensively and, more importantly, for defensive purposes. Sun had a treasure trove of some of the internet’s most valuable patents – ranging from search to microelectronics – so no one in the technology industry could come after us without fearing an expensive counter assault. And there’s no defense like an obvious offense. But for a technology company, going on offense with software patents seems like an act of desperation, relying on the courts instead of the marketplace. See Nokia’s suit against Apple for a parallel example of frivolous litigation – it hasn’t slowed iPhone momentum (I’d argue it accelerated it). So I wonder who will be first to claim Apple’s iPad is stepping on their IP… perhaps those that own the carcass of the tablet computing pioneer Go Corp.? Except that would be AT&T. Hm.

BumpTop har vært rundt en stund, og for dem som ikke har hørt om det før er det en slags virtuell skrivebordsordner hvor du kan sortere og organisere dokumenter, bilder og andre filer i hauger på skrivebordet. Du kan også lete gjennom dem, eller samle sammen og dra filer rundt. Du kan også slenge dem rundt hvis du er i humør til dette. Samlet sett vet jeg ikke om det er den store bruksverdien i et slikt program, som forøvrig legger seg over det vanlige skrivebordet ditt. Nå har imidlertid programmet blitt tilgjengelig for Windows 7 med multitouch-funksjonalitet og da blir det selvsagt mye mer spennende. Det ser flott ut også. Selv om jeg fortsatt stiller meg noe skeptisk til om det faktisk er nyttig eller produktivt er det nå i alle fall blitt mye morsommere å bruke BumpTop. Her er en video som demonstrerer den nyoppnådde funksjonaliteten.

Very interesting Berci - one of the issues I never understood about drug studies is how do you account for the fact that any drug with a common side effect will tip off the patient that they are definitely getting the real stuff and not a placebo - thus contributing to a higher expectation that it should work to alleviate symptoms.

The placebo might have a small incidence of apparent side effects but if you take something like Lunesta the bad taste in your mouth will give you a definite sign that you have not taken the placebo.

I invariably don't sync because I refuse to strip and burn all my data just to add ONE SONG. Because of this I've lost important information. Speaking of which, I don't think my Notes get synced - which is where I keep a lot of random yet essential info. And I've lost this before >:( Really it's all just a ploy for me to buy a MobileMe account, and I hate being taken for a mug.

True, but then again most devices can be charged from a plug socket. This may seem inconsequential to plugging directly into the Mac and syncing as regular, but this will become more and more essential when iTunes learns to granulate the syncing process. Right now it's just way too bloated.

David: True enough that when you want to replace large amounts of data on your iPhone/iPod it's better to directly sync connected to the Mac, but if iTunes granulates the syncing process I can easily add a single song/photo/app without hooking up. It just makes sense to me. I think it's sad I have to use apps like AirSharing to do this instead. I have whole albums wirelessly synced this...
