Cleaning my gmail contacts with the hope/idea I may sync with my Mac Address Book & iPhone. Any experiences to share?
I haven't done it myself, but I'd be curious to know how it goes for you if/when you try it. I assume you're planning on using the Google Exchange sync thingie. - Beth Hoffman
Actually thinking I'd use Spanning Sync because it is more robust and has more options. I'm using it with the calendar now and am quite happy with it. - Kenley Neufeld
I found I had to do a lot of "merging" in my Gmail contacts after I synced with my Address Book but after that slight annoyance, it's been beautiful. Esp. with Google Voice since most of my Gmail contacts didn't have phone # info but my Address Book does. - Sara Q. Thompson
The Google Voice thingy is kind of my motivation (you know why). I know that I have some contacts in both places right now so that will take some time to clean up. Fortunately, I've trimmed Google Contacts down to under 400 and my Mac Address Book probably has less than 200 contacts. Did you do you clean-up in Mac Address Book after the sync? - Kenley Neufeld

Is it worth the xtra HD space? A 4:40 min. song ripped as 320k MP3 = 10MB. Same song ripped as Apple Lossless = 30MB.
Currently have just over 1000 albums ripped at a mix of 320k and 128k. Total storage sits at 83GB but my HD can't take any more and I'd need to install a new HD to accommodate the lossless format. - Kenley Neufeld
i like to rip to a lossless format for archiving and the convert to 196k mp3 for listening and sharing. through my speakers/headphones i can rarely tell the difference....but my ears have been taken along to a few too may shows. - jason simpson
Nice option Jason. Thanks. I don't have an archive need because I still buy the media. Occasionally I'll buy online but look for FLACed wav files so it is essentially the CD quality. 320 MP3 provides pretty nice sound on my headphones and my hifi system. - Kenley Neufeld
If 320k sounds good to your ears, I'd say don't waste the extra space on lossless. I wish I had your ears - mine are, unfortunately, highly tuned to white noise (ironically, probably due to hearing damage) so I can hear all the compression artifacts in formats like mp3 and aac. The best way to decide what works best for you is to rip a few songs (in a variety of genres) you know really well in both 320 and in lossless and see if you can hear the difference - that's how I finally settled on my choice. - Beth Hoffman
Beth- I did that very thing and couldn't hear the difference at all. I think my ears didn't fully develop or something. Oh well, easier for me! - Kårín Dalzĭel
