This comes from science teachers not effectively explaining the modern synthetic theory of evolution (joining genetics, cell biology, and others) as an explanation bridging observations and providing a platform for further studies. Scientific theories are accepted, rejected through new data, or modified. Beliefs have nothing to do with theories. - LPH™

Why is it that anyone who questions evolution is immediately labeled an ignoramus with no understanding of science? I'm an engineer - a scientist in a sense - and believe in Creationism. It can be as easily reconciled to empirical science as evolutionism. At least it presents a solution to first cause. I don't know the proponents of the methodology, but it's a basic concept: assume that things have always happened in the same way and at the same rate as we see them happening now. It seems to be key to many dating methods that support a very very old earth. However, there is reason to question this assumption, because even in our own time we've seen natural events that dramatically change the rate of natural processes - events such as volcanoes, floods, storms, and so forth - klecu

@klecu, so it is what i thought then. uniformitarianism as you meant it is one of the basic principles of modern geology, the observation that fundamentally the same geological processes that operate today also operated in the distant past. it advocates gradual formation of rocks etc on the earth. back in 19th century religioin and uniformitarianism had hard time reconciling. Currently however most mainstream scientists support uniformitarianism as do most mainstream religious denominations. - Hayk

i m not at all a specialist in this but i think things didnt change. Formation of things is still graduall and accumulative. What changed recently is the amount and significance of human intervention, by increasing greenhouse gas emissions, killing and destroying of animal and natural habitat and of course we shouldnt forget that after uniformitarianism theory there was also discovery of plate tectonics, which explains changes on the surface of the Earth - volcanic activities, earthquakes, etc. - Hayk

What several people in this thread are missing is this: It's a SCIENCE class. Science has a specific meaning, and scientific theories are rigidly defined... It's not just any old idea that pops into your head. Creationism is NOT a scientific theory. It has no place in science class. Evolution is a scientific theory, and one that has over a century of experimental evidence supporting it, despite vigorous attacks on it from religious organizations. I think FB for companies would be pretty useful... you could post status updates much like twitter, use the posted items / notes feature to post design documents / links to demos and such and profiles to look up phone numbers/emails and maybe even use pages as project pages.
