Actually, Jason, this IS the first app that mobile-ized a complete, statewide virtual reference service. Every person in WA can use this app to chat with their library.

So the cool part is that it's a consortial reference service made mobile? It's interesting that the App lets me ask questions, but the actual mobile website doesn't (since i'm not physically in WA). Sorry, I try to stay on top of mobile stuffs, and I'm trying to see what makes this different than a mobile IM widget.

Technically both the app and web site are for WA residents only. But I'm not trying very hard to enforce that, since any good measures that keep out non-WA folks will likely keep out lots of legitimate users as well. You can just "enter" past the zip code verifier on the site, btw.

I think it's cool, and new, because it's really an app for every one of our participating libraries. Since there are about 65 of them, lots of them small and unable to create their own mobile apps (or mobile-friendly websites), this is a nice tool to let them appeal to their mobile users without any extra work on their end. I think there are other reasons its cool ... I guess I'm biased.

No need to be sorry, I'm happy to chat about the app and answer any questions. Though if you want to continue the conversation, email might be more conducive.
