"Thank you again. I will find out if our school uses Compass and may have follow up questions there. Also, I would encourage you to check out Second Life. It is a wonderful resource for people with various types of disabilities, and I believe there are some wonderful autism spectrum disorder groups. Your friend who is a paraplegic should especially check out Second Life. I have friends in Second Life who are paraplegic and for whom Second Life has opened wonderful new frontiers. For one great story, check my blog post Second Life Looses a Superhero http://www.orient-lodge.com/no... Also, be sure to check out Virtual Ability http://virtualability.org It is a non-profit aimed at helping people with various disabilities find wonderful new abilities through virtual worlds like Second Life." - Aldon Hynes

"Thanks for your great comments. I'm on a committee that is working out the technology plan for our school district for the next three years. We've had some interesting discussions about how technology can really help with special needs and you're story about teaching Gus to type at 3 1/2 is a great example, including the issues of needing to supervise him. Hopefully, we can get some helpful insights here that I can bring back to the committee" - Aldon Hynes

"I am not a fan of comment moderation. If someone posts a view point that is different from my own, I like to try and get into a reasonable discussion with them. Yet I don't tolerate spam, and delete anything I find bordering on spam. This can run into some conflicts. Last night a person posted a comment here, responding to my call to people to do good works. The person called himself a Christian, but if I for a moment believed that the hatred he espouses reflected the beliefs of Jesus, I would renounce my Christianity. I was planning to post a comment about that in response to his post. First, however, I followed the link he had at the bottom of his comment. The linked website was offensive. It had gory pictures that I found offensive. More significantly, it condoned murdering people with whom you have political or religious disagreements. I do not see how a reasonable discussion could be achieved with someone supporting such extreme and illegal activities. I felt that the link made..." - Aldon Hynes

"I don't know. This almost sounds defeatist. Perhaps that is my own feelings when I think of it that way. How are we going to find teachers that already see the importance of creativity, collaboration and communication? How are we going to make sure that any love of creativity, collaboration and communication is squashed by the school systems they enter? Is this being taught in the teachers colleges? If not, how do we change the teachers colleges? Are we running into the same problem there? Do we need something more revolutionary? Perhaps some of my feeling is shaped by some writing I just did about the fighting in the Middle East, another seemingly intractable problem. So, what can I, a parent in Woodbridge, CT do? Perhaps the most I can do is to try and find visionaries, get them to speak up, and hope that the vision might somehow be contagious. Perhaps that is part of what we need to teach when we try to help people discover their love of creativity collaboration and communication." - Aldon Hynes

"Carole, Thank you for taking ownership of your comment. It is greatly appreciated. I over read your blog, http://www.carolesthoughtfulsp... as well as your Geocaching blog http://www.soyouwannagogeocach... and I enjoy both of them. I've done some Geocaching in the past and hope to get some more Geocaching done this year as well. It does seem like a lot of people struggled through 2008 and have high hopes for 2009. I fear that 2009 will be a rough year for many, but I do believe we'll get through it and that will be many small victories for all of us. So, as I noted, I hope to enjoy the view of the boulder crashing back down the hill and look for those little victories wherever I can find them. Thanks again for your comment here. "Thanks for the recommendations. Paul, if you know of any inexpensive mixing boards with USB outputs that you recommend, please let me know. I will probably check some of the local music shops. I tend not to expect them to have used equipment for connecting to PCs, but I would love to be pleasantly surprised. For the sort of work my daughter wants to do, I suspect she may not run into the lag issue you mention. She is unlikely to record secondary tracks and has a fairly high-end Mac. As to the Digidesign Mbox, it goes for about six times what a lightsnake goes for. I've read many more negative reviews of the Mbox than I have of the lightsnake. It only has one mic input, it Protools LE doesn't run on a lot of PCs, customer support frequently gets slammed. I suspect that Protools is overkill for what my daughter, or many of my readers want to do. So, for the time being, I'm still leaning towards a XLR to USB cable or adapter, although I am interested in hearing more about mixing boards..." - Aldon Hynes

"William, I believe that one important part of being human is to learn from other people's mistakes. If I felt this was simply a squabble between a couple of people with big egos, I would have ignored it. Instead, I view this as a case study in failed social marketing with important implications for other people trying to start up a social media site. Ad to this that there is supposedly a large user base of EntreCard and that the head of EntreCard has at times publicly sort additional financing, it seems to be a very important topic to explore. So, I don't view my post as squabbling. I'm not sure that others do either. If there's one feature I would like Twitter (or third-party) to have, it would be the abiity to see which tweet you sent that someone is replying to. I had someone reply to me about something I said a week ago. I did not remember what tweet she was replying to. - Dave "Freedom 35"

Connection to YouTube is insecure. YT whines about it, but lets it go through if you allow it. Still, c'mon, if there's a secure way to do it, as YT suggests, why not do it that way? ... Also, Upcoming support doesn't seem to work. Won't link up with my user name, nor the ID number. - Chris Charabaruk for Hire
Chris, very good point about the YouTube connection. It's something we are working on and it will be released next week. - SHHHE
@SHHHE Good, sooner the better. Likewise, whatever's got Upcoming all bugged out. I'd complain about the slow speed too, but given what I'm using it's 70% likely to be this computer that's causing it to be slow for me. - Chris Charabaruk for Hire
Looks like crap on IE. - Paul Whitaker
PeopleBrowsr has been built to be used on FF3 and Safari 3.1 and it needs broadband. - SHHHE
IE is crap! - Prolific Programmer
Not the best of choices. After all, IE is still tops for browsers, whether we like it or not. - Chris Charabaruk for Hire
Not according to my analytics...LOL - Rahsheen ™
At last a web app that actually likes Safari. Ha! - Tom Landini
@Rahsheen Unfortunately, there are more mouth-breathing IE users than intelligent folks like us. I'd like to change that, but I can't think of any legal ways of going about and doing so... :p - Chris Charabaruk for Hire
Thanx Scoble...I'm curious, why did you choose Kyte instead of qik? - Anthony Farrior
Anthony: Kyte lets me record on a FlipCam and upload later (I can use cell phone, webcam, FlipCam, our HD cams, etc, Qik only lets me use cell phone). Also Kyte has better distribution/better player. Also Kyte has a better chat room. - Robert Scoble
I've been using this for a couple of hours and stumbled on some very useful features. A few seconds ago I finished watching your video, and I'm blow away by the potential of this app. It reminds me of a semantic Firefox addon called Headup, that has been inserted into a browser and spiced up with added communication features. Time to put this to use. Thanks again Robert! - Michael Fidler
hi robert, twitter had some database problems a while ago. What is the effect of peoplebrowsr on the loadavg of the twitter databases? I guess peoplebrowsr is going to increase server requests dramaticly. - Corné Wielemaker

Orli, it's working now :) - SHHHE
Still not working. Is it crushing just for me? :-\ - Orli Yakuel
looks interesting, although what I dream of is contact synchronisation protocols - Joelle Nebbe (iphigenie)
Orli, it might be the browser you're using. I've just had to update Safari to the latest version. Gonna install and try again. - Nicola Quinn
Thanx Robert for the feedback. Kyte seems to understand how to edge itself out of the mobile video pack...Peoplebrowsr is cool, but I still need a reason to leave the friendfeed page. These apps are just trees whereas FF gives me the whole forest, imho - Anthony Farrior
I am all about the Real-Time FriendFeed sidebar in Firefox. http://bit.ly/mZLT Always open so I can see what's going on in FriendFeed while I use Google Reader and browse. All I need now is full Twitter integration (see my follows) in FriendFeed and an import box at the bottom of this sidebar and I'll be set. - Rolf Schewe
I just can't believe it, I remember from where I know this guy! He was hunting just about everyone in TC50 to give him the red chip! (I didn't even know it's worth it, heh!) - Orli Yakuel
Rolf: thanks for that link. Too bad you can't do sidebars in Safari. That might just be enough to bring me back to Firefox... - Costa Walcott
Indeed very cool, I just get Invalid Source when linking my Facebook account. :) - Daniel W. Crompton
Pretty cool - looks Scoblized though. But another tool for doing what FriendFeed is already doing? - Sean
Looks awesome but I wonder how they are going to keep service online. Yes, there are donations but is that enough to have things running? - Daniel Schildt
So far I don't see anything that'll move me away from TweetDeck, but I'll keep at it and see if something catches my eye - Bwana
Looks cool, but I don't see it adding enough to move me away from TweetDeck - Don Campbell
I wanted to love this. But I didn't: http://news.cnet.com/8301-1793... - Rafe Needleman
@Sean very Scobilized, indeed. But that doesn't mean it's not cool. - David
I agree with Rafe. I wanted to like it as well but I found it to be the equivalent of a social media bloomberg terminal. Too much happening, having multiple streams update with the same post, etc. Found it not usable. I rarely just sit in front of one UI and just watch scrolling updates like that where it is my sole focus. - Lou Paglia
Lou, thanks for your feedback. We are still in Alpha, working on the UI. You can do many things on PeopleBrowsr. Did you try the Search or the Groups functions? Very welcome your ideas: http://groups.google.com/group... Thanks - SHHHE
Is this service still available? I went to the URL but got a blank page. - Chris Herbert

I haven't read your blog before, for those curious, you can find it at http://bristolnews.blogspot.co... Thanks for the shout out there. I also want to make it clear that I don't think the potential demise of the New Britain Herald or the Bristol Press is in any way good for anyone involved. If it happens, it will be a tragic loss. However, I do remain optimistic about the future of local news coverage as it changes in the twenty first century. Even my blog post yesterday has resulted in folks brainstorming about how to fill the vacuum that the loss of these papers would create. Instead, it may be that we have a small difference of opinion about how bad the vacuum will be and how long it will take to fill it." - Aldon Hynes
