you know what my first goal is for my first professional blog...to be shared on google reader & for me to spot it randomly. That's the first goal
- Zee.
Mine's pretty pointless. I use it like a messy closet and just cram links or random thoughts I have into an online holding facility. If I need to get to it later, I know right where it's at. If someone else makes use of it, fine.
- Pete Delucchi
2 goals. #1. Give my listeners something to read while they wait for a show or something new to come out I'm working on. #2. Get traffic so people will listen to the show or, check out what I'm working on. Self-serving? Maybe but, I'm not a blogger...I'm a podcaster and, a voice actor.
- Candace
@Candace but how do u measure goal #1? Or is that just my community feedback?
- Zee.
@Zee - Yeap. Just see what type of feedback I get from what I write. If my most active listeners give feedback, I'm doing something right. I like it even better when new listeners/visitors give feedback.
- Candace
awesome - i'm not a listener I have to confess...but i'm subscribing now. Oh, i'm at proproductivity.com if you're into productivity/lifehacks.
- Zee.
mine is to balance out the BS that is spewed by the mainstream media around the mortgage and housing mess. i consider it the ballast - trying to even things out. second goal is to hopefully help people from making some really bad financial decisions by asking some hard questions.
- Morgan
guys - share the links to your blog too if poss!! Just so we know which blog you're referring to! Morgan, just subscribed - looks really interesting actually.
- Zee.
I just want to develop some ideas, improve some skills, eventually develop a product and work for myself. Not sure why i'm doing it in public, but there it is. :) edit, adding url http://droffset.blogspot.com
- sergiooo
@Zee - I actually really am into productivity and subscribe to a few blogs that deal with that. I'll have to check it out. My blog/site is http://www.CandaceHolly.com
- Candace
one step ahead of ya! :) Got you all subscribed up.
- Zee.
To start conversations that myself and others can learn from.
- Shey, Jamaican of FF
I want to use my blog to increase my reputation in the industry I work in, thereby indirectly increasing my nett worth (where nett worth is more than just $$)
- martin english
from twhirl
network-enabled notebook to myself, that just happens to be accessible to the world
- .LAG liked that
to chronicle my growth and hopefully find people to be friends with
- Giancarlo Angulo
but how do u measure these guys? I mean for example, @Shey - is it solely on what your readers are saying about it? Or do you judge yourself? How do you know if you're really achieving that goal?
- Zee.
I just try to get people to read them but i try to also foster reader interaction
- Cecil Sandus
i don't mind the odd really smart quick witted comment. But that is just bullshit adolescent kind of commenting Charlie & makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck because it's a waste of bloody time.
- Zee.
To create a portfolio. Everything I create at work belongs to my employer, I want to have a body of work which I can point to publicly.
- DGentry
No purpose except to get stuff out of my system.
- Helen Sventitsky
hey, thats a definitely a good goal Helen! :)
- Zee.
My main goal was to keep our families and friends updated on what's going on with life wherever we happen to be living at the moment. I'm not so big on talking on the phone, so this is easier. It's grown a bit beyond that I guess. http://3dognite.wordpress.com

What Martin English said, but in a different way (kinda). When I launch into a Career, I don't want to start at 0. And that's why I blog - to network, to get to know new people. And how do I measure it? A few months back I was in a local Microsoft UG Meeting. A coupla folks came by and asked me if I was Yuvi. I was invited to speak for a few secs (which I sucked at) and then had dinner with the folks there. THAT is 'coz of my blog :)
- Yuvi
thanks for subscribing zee! I'll be adding yours to my feed reader too!
- Morgan
Sure, see how long I can go without updating it ;)
- Tai
I have my personal blog, which is a place to keep up with friends and post work in progress, and I have a couple of others...one is work-focused (not my regular job but the other stuff) and one is just a photoblog of pictures I've taken that make me happy.
- Kris Millering
at the beg, i wanted to vent out and to get some credit for that :) now, seeing all the other blogs on all possible topics, i m currently consider what to write about to get out of hype, if i do want to get out of it, of course!!
- Hayk H.
@Zee I think the most accurate way of measuring my goal is by links and mentions — if people are talking about and linking to the content, I think that would show conversations are happening and knowledge is being spread.
