I am seriously pondering about creating a mini-clone of FriendFeed. #lordgivemethestrength
would you need some help from a modest coder? :) - directeur
I'll bring the lulz - Josh Haley from iPhone
I have a feeling that this thread will be historical - directeur
doooooooooooooo eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet - acedanger
I could open up enjoysthin.gs to things other than likes... it's already got a realtime feed. Anyone have any interest in that? - Ted Roden
@Ted: if needed, I'd be willing to offer up some time to do some javascript coding... - Harold
I can code and design database backends (been teaching this in Univ.) and I'll happily help with the frontend too! Just make an announcement AJ, and I'm your man :) - directeur
I also posted a bit about it here if anyone is interested: http://bit.ly/k4BHc - Ted Roden
Wow... we can already build a team here. I can design the UI and code the frontend. I'm also good in testing and user experience. There seems to be a huge vacuum left by FriendFeed. - AJ Batac (/-_-)
Ted, open it up. It will definitely be a good move. ;) - AJ Batac (/-_-)
DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!! - Mathew™ aka Youngblood
Meanwhile, I'll try to write an opensource import/export app for people to use? :) - directeur
Need another coder? - Glenn Slaven
I was already working on a FriendFeeed clone that was focused on the gaming community.... but with today's news, I am tempted to make it more generic - Daniel Sims
Great stuff guys and an export app would be super, directeur! - Sally Church
Daniel, I'd like to test the app when it's ready or better yet open it to us so we can help you out. Speed up the development. - AJ Batac (/-_-)
wowwowwow, wow! - browneyes from iPhone
Before you guys go down this path take a look at all the resources I have over at Lifestream Blog here: http://lifestreamblog.com/create there are plenty of scripts / projects that could provide a starting point. - Mark Krynsky
Mark, that is a great list! Wow. - AJ Batac (/-_-)
in - Mattb4rd
Yea, the section under Open Source community apps would probably be the most interesting. - Mark Krynsky
It also depends on what part of FriendFeed you want to clone... as Mark's list shows, the lifestream and importing features are easily reproduced. FriendFeed's real magic IMO is the ease of discussion & discovery, which is what I am more interested in. - Daniel Sims
Totally agree with you Daniel. - AJ Batac (/-_-)
Clone it goooo - Will Higgins™
I'm in. - Barak B
There was actually a great article posted a few months ago about the FF database structure and how it's designed for high speed access and whatnot. What would be neat would be to create an open source friendfeed clone. Of course this whole thread will probably be used in a lawsuit eventually. - Andrew Leyden
Hells yeah. - Yolanda
I was just considering this, too. - Kevin L
Is there any chance when the FF gang make off like bandits they leave the keys in the API running? With a possible service level agreement? - Andrew Smith
AJ, please do and use the Google Wave protocol. ;-) - Kol Tregaskes
Yay! - James Myatt
I'm with you AJ! If you want some coders, you can find them [PHPUGPH]. hehe! - Randy
I can help with backend/DB/scalability. Dev on MS platforms (Azure, anyone?), too. - Jemm
I have 10G of space, 50G of monthly bandwidth on a friend's SoftLayer dedicated server. Lots of perks, permission to install anything I want or need. Somehow I don't think that is enough for a project like this, but I am willing to contribute some of it if it can be of any help.(I am only using a small portion of it to host a few sites. I own the domain name wtfcat.com. might be good for a cute url shortener. It ain't doing anything else useful at the moment. - April
unless you find social magician, you fail on taking user base of any significance to justify infra maintenance - Отборнейший бред
Please please please make it open source. - Dennis Jernberg
