I really like them, especially in my Moleskines. I keep messing up the tips, though. Not so great on rough, cheap paper. That said, I have a bazillion of them at home.
- ha3rvey (chee-la-key-les)
I should check these out and see if the beat the Pilot Precise GEL pens that I've been using exclusively for the past few years.
- Akiva Moskovitz
Uni-ball Micros for me. Seems like there must be a site out there that reviews pens, no? I mean A-B comparisons, features, specs, etc... Hey... http://www.penaddict.com
- Ken Sheppardson
I've been buying those by the box for quite a while now. Great semi-cheap pens.
- J Wynia
I got real surprised when I discovered that they aren't permanent :(
- Glen Mistletoe
i have always been partial to uni-balls and uni-ball micros. i might have to try some of these out.
- Imabug
i will testify to the awesomeness of sharpie pens on moleskine paper. it doesn't bleed through it. and ooh! they come in purple now? *plans trip to staples*
- tiffany
I got a multipack with orange, blue, purple, red, green and black. They're quite nice.
- CAJ, somewhere else
Sharpie pens really are the greatest thing to happen to my life ever. They are so awesome.
- Devin
Well, I will definitely be in possession of one of these soon.

I keep meaning to purchase a grip of these. I love writing with sharpies.
- Jason Toney
I bought a pair and quickly upgraded to the retractable model with a comfort grip. They are nice in the moleskine.
- Stephen Borchert
Great. Now I need to go BACK to Staples.
- Sean Oliver
what's the width on that pen? i've been so spoiled by my .25mm pens ( http://www.jetpens.com/product... ) that everything seems like a big huge sharpie to me.
- metalerik
@metalerik: I believe the Sharpie pens are .5mm, but don't hold me to that. I've tried a .25 pen before, and while I like fine-tipped pens, I think .25 is too fine for me. The pen tip was too scratchy feeling, and the writing seemed too thin for my liking. But who knows, I may feel differently later. :)
- Cheryl Jones
thanks cheryl. Yeah, a lot of the .25s and even some .3s feel too scratchy. I really like the sliccis as they seem the least scratchy to me. Also, I'm learning to press way lighter having realized that I learned to write with a number 2 pencil and that I can get away with a much lighter touch. Still figuring it out. I am a big fan of the skinny line though. Check out this .18 pen. It literally can write on rice! http://www.jetpens.com/product...

I ACCIDENTALLY THE WHOLE SHARPIE, BORA! IS THIS BAD?!
- Bahriye
Bahriye, you still make no sense. Please add a verb into your sentence, so we can discuss your situation.
- Bora Mesut PALAS
Ok, i'll try. I was just got my sharpie pen couple of days ago, i decided to try it today. However to my surprise, I ACCIDENTALLY THE WHOLE SHARPIE! What do i do?
- Bahriye
sorry, I still don't get it. YOU ACCIDENTALLY WHAT ?
- Bora Mesut PALAS
Did you accidentally eat it? the whole sharpie? not saving even a little for when you get hungry later?
- April Russo (app103)
no april, i accidentally the sharpie? why dont you get it?!
- Bahriye
We don't get it because your English is a little lacking. There is a word missing in your English version that makes it make no sense. Try in your native language and I'll see if I understand it better through a translator. "Accidentally" isn't something you do. It's used to describe HOW you did something. The part in your sentence that is missing is what you did.
- April Russo (app103)
oh, seems like she did something "awful" with that sharpie but since there's a lack of verb in her sentence, I'm still unable to help her in our native language :((((
- Bora Mesut PALAS
I ACCIDENTALLY THE SHARPIE OK? IT IS ENGLISH AND I DID NOT MISS A VERB IN IT. GEEZ, YOU DON'T KNOW YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE?
- Bahriye
:( and i think it's bad.. isn't it? i just accidentallied one..

This was the eyepopping sight that greeted sleepy commuters in London yesterday, as Tower Bridge was raised to allow a hot air balloon through for the first time in the landmark’s 105-year history. Created to mark the release of new Disney-Pixar animated movie Up, and painted all over with lots of little balloons, the balloon also had more than 500 half-balloons sewn to its outside with 18 miles of thread. When hot air was pumped into the main balloon, all the mini-balloons expanded too.

There’s a new free application on the App Store today – it’s called My O2. - You’re able to see how much you’ve got left in your included allowances, what your next bill summary is and loads of other info too. It’s totally secure – you’ll be asked for a four digit PIN every time it loads – and it’s available for people on Pay Monthly and Pay & Go too, but unfortunately at the moment our business and corporate customers aren’t able to use it.

"As we’ve mentioned here before at Make Use Of, bookmarklets are easy to use additions to your web browsers that add functionality to websites or make it easier to perform tasks such as bookmarking to social sites or changing the way websites appear in the browser. Run with Javascript, these useful lightweight pieces of code can make your online life a lot easier. Backup your bookmarks – and bookmarklets – and use these bookmarklets across all platforms. All bookmarklets were tested on Firefox 3.5 and Safari 4."

I just disagree with the term "must-have"..."useful" is what I would choose...these bookmarklets are nice, but hardly necessities.

I agree and would add 'TwitThat, Diigolet, Press this, Share on Posterous,...' in fact all bookmarklet for all social platforms one has an account on.

my Share to friendfeed is my most used one

I use "ShareThis" from sharethis.com, but their website doesn't give a bookmarklet...I forgot where I found it. But it lets you share the web page across various platforms (twitter, digg, delicious, etc) I also use "clip to evernote"

NP. I actually like Bookmarklet more than the actual addon (especially if it's not yet supported by the browser). Other ones I've used are: Diigolet, PrintWhatYouLike, Download PDF, Diggbar (all can be google'ed). In Firefox, I combine the bookmarklet with Xmarks, and they instantly become available through all my pcs (or any place with Internet via portable Firefox)

"I spent some time over the last week tracking down some files that were corrupted, from god knows what. The problem was that the files were changed and I had to restore a previous version of the file that went nuts. I was scratching my head trying to figure out just how to track down which particular file was screwing things up. It’s usually easy to do, but when the code was part of large group of files it became a tedious task. This is where Changes comes in. It saved my butt and let me track down the code with ease. Essentially what it does is compare both files, and folders to a backed up version, or another version all together. In a matter of minutes I got a listing of all the files and which were different in some way, and was able to replace them with the originals."

Yes, and the family is going to sue NYC. Sorry, if you trip/fall/bump into something while walking and NOT paying attention to surroundings you should not claim it is the fault of someone else. *facepalm*
- Janet
i agree but, how many of us text/email and walk at the same time - plenty. I do it but mainly keep it my eye out for people and lamp posts...not a big hole in the ground
- Zee.
Dude. A manhole? That probably means she was also crossing a street...haven't seen many manholes in the middle of sidewalks. Just sayin.
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Ok the girl should have been watching where she was going, however if the manhole was open it should of been blocked,
- Kim Landwehr
Rah, manholes do exist on sidewalks. Some cities ban utilities from having manholes in the street, so they must go in the sidewalks.
- Beau Liening
definitely seen them in London, got one outside my apartment block
- Zee.
I'm sure they exist on sidewalks, just never noticed any in NYC. Kim is right, it should have been blocked if it was open, but this chick is still a moron. Next, people who crash into stuff while driving and texting will be looking for damages :)
- Rahsheen ™, Coach Rah
Just saying someone in that city is going to have a lot of explain to do. Of course the girl will now spend the next month saying yes I fell in a manhole. Yes I was texting.
- Kim Landwehr
Rahsheen your right....she is a moron.....should the city workers been a little bit more careful then they were....yes.....but c'mon....a manhole is a big ass hole! How could you not see that, even if you are texting. If you're going to walk on a public street and text at the same time, pay attention where you're walking.
- Bonnie Foster
She should have been watching where she was going, but when you walk along a sidewalk or cross a street, you don't generally expect there to be a gaping hole in front of you. So the manhole should either have been covered or blocked with a movable barrier. It's not safe to leave it open like that, even for people who aren't texting.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
Great show! Abby, it was great to hear your back and forth banter with your dad. Your connection with the older generation was what made it so interesting. Getting your peer group to do more of that might be a good theme to come back to now and then. As a member of the fossil generation it was captivating to hear. Your ability to get the guest to explain how things happened to them is the reason that I want to come back to Abby's Road again. Keep up the good work. Allen Majewski
- allen majewski
Abby's Road needs to be placed somewhere else it doesn't fit in with the rest of your shows on twit.tv. I don't enjoy it at all.
- DeMedici
I think Abby does a great job and she is just learning and developing her "style" I think all the people who keep complaining about her show need to just back off and let Abby be! obviously Leo thinks it is a good idea for her to have her own show and that should be good enough for all of us.

been waiting for this for a long time. Now you can seamlessly browse Cooliris in a browser tab enabling you to cmd-click / ctl-click images and have them load in background tabs to fave/comment/etc later. This new release is really great news.
- Thomas Hawk
LOL, they don't have a version that works with 3.5 currently that I can find. So you have to wait a little longer on that. I love the app though, and was so excited to see this.
- Jimminy
Humm. Seems that its only works in browser view, if you hit the fullscreen view and do the command click it closes out and goes back to normal. Still opens the tab behind though. So, almost there for me :)
- Simon Wicks
and i just realised you said browse in a browser tab... Silly me :(
- Simon Wicks
BTW, Thomas...have you used the Slideshow on Flickr to browse contacts? I would do that and fav from it.
- Kreg Steppe
I have Kreg, this is far better than Slideshow. The ability to increase both size and speed with the mouse is massive. I've seen nothing on the web more visually enticing for photos than Cooliris.
- Thomas Hawk
Kreg, I'll have to see if I can get it to update then.
- Jimminy
I agree Thomas. I have used Coloris in the past. I love it...and it is more useful now.
- Kreg Steppe

Thanks for the info. I had it once but didn't find it useful, the new version looks much more useful. About the hyperlink: if it takes you to a page that tries to get you to use cooliris than it best be used in moderation. When photoplow started up and encouraged chatters to post comments to photos with the line "seen in a discussion on photoplow" there were spam complaints in the help...
- Theresa
Yeah, I hear you Theresa, but browsing a pool/set/etc using it is just so damn beautiful and now that they've got the cmd/click piece down it makes it fully operable as a way to both browse photos and interact. It might be hard for me to resist posting links to great sets/pools/etc. with it. Here's another GREAT view, the DMU saved photos pool: http://www.cooliris.com/tab...
- Thomas Hawk
I tried it once before and found its operation kind of clunky, even though it is very visually appealing. I'll have to give the new version another try.
- John (a.k.a. dendroica)
John the new version feels smooth as a silk.
- Thomas Hawk
This is a step in the right direction. It's still a bit clunky on my iMac Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz.
- Chris Luckhardt
I love this app, It makes looking at images much more fun :)
- Matthew Marley
Now if I could just get it to default back to fullscreen instead of a tab, I'd be real happy. Been using Cooliris for a long time. Changed the way I browse the web.
- mike fabio
Thx for this, cooliris is a wonderful tool!
- timepilot
i used cooliris back in the day, but i think ill need to install this again...
- Cassidy
Thanks for posting, Thomas! Good to have you back on Cooliris - we hope we can keep rolling out releases that you and everyone else will love :) And for those of you who may have been experience FF3.5 compatibility problems with Cooliris, please go back to our site and download Cooliris again. That should take care of any problems.
- Cooliris
For pages that have 2 Media RSS feeds, Cooliris 1.9 would find the one with id="gallery". That feature was handy because you could have one blog-style feed with media and another slideshow-optimized feed. The feature is missing in 1.10 and 1.11. Will it return in a future release?
- Bruce Lewis
from fftogo
I must be missing something... how do i integrate flickr into cooliris? as in, how do i view a photostream or set?
- thekillingjoke
Bruce, not sure at the moment, but we'll be keeping that in mind. I'll submit it as a feature request!
- Cooliris
I absolutely LOVE Cool Iris -- secret: make your PowerPoint slides image files and zip thru your preso with Cool Iris and watch your audience's jaws drop on the conf. rm table :)
- Susan Beebe
Impressive. Great way to view photos on Facebook too.
- Mike Doeff
They still haven't implemented the one or two features which I consider most important. 1. The ability to Fav (on Flickr) a photo without leaving the Cooliris interface. 2. The ability to comment on a photo (on Flickr) without having to leave the Cooliris interface. Having to bounce in and out of Cooliris, even if just between browser tabs is very disruptive.
- TranceMist
TranceMist, hear you loud and clear - will also add to feature request. We love your feedback/ideas about Cooliris so keep it coming! :)
- Cooliris
Is there a way to make Cooliris open a picture in a new tab just by control clicking the main picture? The only way I can get the new tab feature to work is to control click on the tiny arrow at lower right...
- Sam Posten
Sam - yes, clicking the arrow icon is still the way to launch Cooliris. We'll look into the ctrl click you suggested!
- Cooliris
I'm conflicted. While some of those look outright tacky, others look like people doing their best with little to no wedding budget. I imagine my first marriage pictures (had any been taken) would be here too. I wore a jean skirt IIRC.

the bustier/lingerie trend is what kills me - some confusion between brothel and betrothal?
- Laura Norvig
I kept imagining these as polyvore wedding sets. Jess? I actually liked some of these a lot -- getting the sense that the people in these pictures might stand a better chance of happiness than the people in New York Times wedding announcements. Because they avoided a no-creativity wedding, they might also avoid a no-creativity marriage.
- Daniel Dulitz
that certainly was interesting. but i aint judging given where I come from...

Hasitha, many multi-page lists, including FriendFeed feeds, have navigation at bottom.
- andrei_c
@Akiva Other (mobile or desktop) browsers are quick to scroll, though - it takes many swipes to get to the bottom of a FF page, for example. And FF always reverts to the top of a page when you follow a link, then go back - annoying when you're most of the way down a page...

Or what about a two-finger fast scroll?

++Jules. Mobile Safari can jump to the top (tap the chrome with the time display) but afaik not to the bottom. Try scrolling with comments in the 100s. There is this trick: focus the search field at the top, then click Next which moves focus to comment field at the bottom.

in safari there's a quick way to jump to the top but not bottom. click above the page on the header. the URL space will appear and it will scroll you to the top. just click back on the page and you're set.
