I know, Brian, and I'm not a prescriptivist, really. But they're/there/their are completely different words with completely different meanings, and whenever someone uses the wrong one, I always have to read it two or three times to figure out what they meant, which wastes my time. (See, there, how I used a singular subject with a plural verb? That doesn't bother me anymore.) - Jandy

The non-customary article: Miss SC says "THE Iraq" - people point and laugh. Mister 43folders says "THE google" - people golf clap and laugh. Life and language is funny that way. - Micah
