That's like this lady I have a meeting with tomorrow. She needs to learn to economize her words.

Today's topics included oil reserves, solar and wind energy, the Social Security Administration, his service in Vietnam, mine and Dave's allowance structure, his first motorcycle, and his 1968 Bumblebee. At least the allowance structure was financial in nature, and hopefully the SSA discussion put a bee in his bonnet to finish my dad's extended return from last year, so all in all not a totally lost hour.

Heh heh! What kind of accent do you have?
- Stephen Mack
Depends on who you ask. To people around here I sound like a 'yankee'. To people from the northern US I either sound like I'm from the midwest or (if tired and/or angry) from the south. To people from abroad I sound like a crazy American =D

Judging from the (very few) times I've heard you on webcam, you don't sound Southern to me. More accentless, which probably means Midwestern, since that's where I'm from. My mom grew up in rural Alabama - now HER family has a Southern accent. ;)

LOL! There are umpteen kinds of southern accents: Charleston SC vs eastern TN vs Mississippi vs New Orleans are all unique and so many in between.

I was born in South Carolina but only lived there till I was 2. However we would go back every now and then to visit or vacation and I always loved just listening to everyone talk. Sometimes I would pick up some of the accent while there, but that was mostly acting background more than anything else. I have to say I liked this post mostly for the "talk the ears off the corn stalk" line, which made me smile!

Tina, true! We used to drive down to Florida from St. Louis twice a year to vacation and visit relatives (most Alabama relatives relocated to Pensacola), and I swear there was a line right at Tennessee where the accents suddenly started. Verifiable by McDonald's employees. :) Your accent, when it comes out, is a lot softer.

I heard another expression for this same type of person last night "he could talk the horns off a billy goat". Idiomatic turns of phrase always intrigue me.
