CVs are hard to write but I've learnt a lot from others and my previous managers have helped. I also had a CV writing company rewrite mine, which improved it a lot. I find it hard to write what I do. :-)

I can sympathise - I had to do mine last week. Maybe you could crowd-source it? :)

Usually, it is best to write from left to right... :P

Looking atyour LinkedIn, you have plenty of experience, so I would go chronological

Once I get something I don't hate I'm going to post the txt here and get some feedback. I'm still jetlagged, not to mention stressed, so I'm sure my spelling/grammar/train of though could use a lot of help. At this point it's just frustrating putting information from my two most recent jobs since they were so different (both the duties and the companies). The last place was small so there weren't corporate recognition programs like at MCI: the newest section looks teeny tiny!

Create a 'master' CV that includes *everything*, then (for each position you apply to) cut it down to what's most relevant for that position.

Yep, I have about 10 different covering letters depending on the job I'm applying for. I sometimes tweak my CV too for each.
- Kol Tregaskes
I always change up the cover letters per job (a set format per type of job and drop in the appropriate information where necessary). The biggest difference between the two jobs at this point is the awards/honors, so that might be the section I drop in/out based on what I'm applying for.

check out jobspice.com for a place to format/share and PDFize your resume

That's one of the nice things about Open Office, actually: I can save my doc as a PDF natively.
- FFing Enigma
On a Mac ANY printable document can be saved as a PDF through the Print dialogue box. ^^
- David C. Cooper
Windows offers the same with Cute PDF. OO doesn't even require the print dialog box, though: just press the PDF button and you're off

Office 2007 would require a significant monetary investment on my part so I don't have it (but nice to know on the plugin, in case I get a job that has MSO07 already).

I did the open office thing too for saving as a PDF, just have played around with job spice for layout changes I'm considering.

Like it matters, nobody is fucking hiring. Well at least where I live, one resume is just one out of 1,000 people applying for the same job.

Dude, I've been there... The only reason I'm really hopeful right now is because I've got CS training experience and there are actually a couple of places here hiring for that. There aren't that many trained trainers around here so hopefully I have a shot.
- FFing Enigma
I'm sure you'll be okay, I have just lost hope for myself

I just saw this, too late to be critical tonight, but I'm an excellent proofreader (just many many years experience) so if you want send it over tomorrow?
