I moved away from home at 16 to attend a residential high school, the SC Governor's School for Science and Math. It's one of Newsweek's 17 public elite US high schools. 80% of the faculty have doctorates, 23 of the 65 members of my graduating class were National Merit Scholars. With *ALL* the thought they put into this school, no one realized that their acronym would be GSSM. Because, surely brilliant 16-18 year olds won't think THAT'S funny =/

GSSM makes you happy? Sorry, I couldn't resist!!!

Tina... OK it's driving me insane. Since no one else has said it... I think its funny cause the acronym would have a strong emphasis on the first two letters, forming a 'J' sound...

EXACTLY!!! And even if it's supposed to be G.S.S.M., it's a bunch teenagers. How ELSE are they gonna say it?!?
- FFing Enigma
... Horay! Now does this make me smart or just dirty minded... hmm... Maybe I need a few years worth of GSSM to work it out...

Hey Tina, one more thing we have in common!! I went to the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science (MSMS or (MS)^2 as we geeks called it). Our acronym wasn't quite as funny as yours, I guess! :)

That's awesome, Lindsay! Was your school residential as well? I know the NC governor's school is residential but I'm not sure about some of the others across the country.

Yeah, it was residential, basically college with more classes (21 hours was the minimum you could take a semester... one semester I took 32 and nearly killed myself) and not as much of the fun. I was 18 most of my senior year and was REALLY fed up with curfews and such. I learned a lot about how to take care of myself and cover my tracks. ;)

Alabama School of Math & Science here. Lived there two years, met my wife there. We were '99 and '00 respectively.

You make me feel old, Daniel. :) I was class of '94. Met Tad while I was there, but not in person... I didn't meet him offline till '95.

Class of 96 here, and GSSM is a 2 year residential. Ours was setup with a January mini-mester where you took one class for 3 weeks, which I loved. My first semester senior year was crazy busy because I had two night labs, so I'd be in classes 8a until 9 or 10p couple days a week. I got to college and 4 classes a semester seemed like a joke...
