I took way more than 3 minutes and I had a sample ballot with me all filled out. :/
- Pixie
whats the location, i'll gladly call this in for you.
- Carlos Ayala
Yeah, what's the polling station? I'll file a complaint too
- Soup in a TARDIS
I would raise hell if they tried telling me that. Just sayin'.

Very nefarious tactics - would contend that a time limit would be illegal?
- Matt Frog
Um... yeah. Someone call that in. That's illegal.
- Carla Thompson
You should of had all of your picks done before going to the polls really, should just be recognizing names and marking a vote.
- xero
What are they going to do ... forcibly remove you? They can't enforce that time limit. lol
- Brandon
Is there an online copy of the ballot so I can make my picks before I go vote at lunch?
- David Cook
David, yes I believe there is. Google 'SC voter reigtration' to get to the SC site. I remember there being a menu item for elections, so if there's a sample ballot, I guess it would be there.

I know that some states do have legal time limits, but 3 minutes seems to be ridiculous. California, for example, has a law that limits the time in a booth to 10 minutes. I wonder if time limits are really enforced?
- Rochelle
Okay, upon further research, Iowa and Pennsylvania have a law that states no one can be in a booth for more than 3 minutes. Others may, too. I didn't check every state. What state is that picture from?
- Rochelle
South Carolina Code of Laws SECTION 7-13-760. Time when voter must leave booth and voting place; voter must be alone in booth and must not talk while voting. No voter, while receiving, preparing and casting his ballot, shall occupy a booth or compartment for a longer time than five minutes. No voter shall be allowed to occupy a booth or compartment already occupied by another, nor to speak or converse with anyone, except as herein provided, while in the booth. After having voted, or declined or failed to vote within five minutes, the voter shall immediately withdraw from the voting place and shall not enter the polling place again during the election.
- Rochelle
So yeah, the 3 minute sign is illegal. SC voters get 5 minutes.
- Rochelle
It would make sense to have some limit -- otherwise voters could foul the whole process by entering the booth and staying there all day
- Brian Sullivan
The sign still shouldn't be up. Just because it can't be enforced doesn't mean it's okay to put up signs in polling places that say illegal things.
- Rochelle
There are a lot of choices. 3 minutes is definitely not enough time for many people. I just returned from my own polling location in NY where the clerk explained the machine and told me to "take all the time I needed".
- Tom Harrison
I agree. There's no way I could have voted in under 3 minutes. I had already determined my vote for President, but I had to read the amendments and decide in the booth. I never received a sample ballot. Conspiracy!
- Mattb4rd
Looks illegal -- wait, it's only 5 mins.!? WTH.
