I'm thinking of quitting Twitter. I don't use it, find it overwhelming. And even when I do use it I don't actually enjoy it like do FF: Twitter consistently feels like a chore.
Same here, I've neglected Twitter and I don't miss it, I don't miss the spam, the money trees and the fake celebrities etc
- M F
Brian, I already ignore it! No, I'm thinking of canning it altogether. Actually, canning both my accounts (yes, I do in fact hate Twitter but have two accounts).
- FFing Enigma
Ignoring seems the path of least resistance.
- Brian Sullivan
There is a HUGE amount of amateurism on Twitter. People tweeting stupid self promotional stuff, intellectual bullshit-ery, social media pundit-ery and a lot of Blah. And yet there is some value among all of that noise. I do agree that it is overwhelming but I think that akin to FF, whether it feels like a chore or not depends on whether one is following the right people.
- Parth Awasthi
I don't know about that, Parth. I follow about 150 people on Twitter and almost 1100 here on FF. I have no issues keeping up here and finding value in my stream. When I use Twitter, though, just those 150 people make it impossible for me to follow a conversation. I basically just hate the way it works.
- FFing Enigma
But Matthew, then they'd see me whining about how much I hate Twitter!
- FFing Enigma
You can abandon twitter without abandoning your followers. You could do like I did. I use SocialToo to message everyone that follows me to tell them I don't really use Twitter much and they are better off following me here. It's also very plainly stated on my Twitter profile. And for those that don't care to try Friendfeed and insist on following me on Twitter any way, I feed them some of my stuff from here. Maybe with any luck, something they see & like will bring them here someday. ;-)
- April
I still use Twitter to stay in touch with the people who haven't figured out FF's superiority yet. But I do it grudgingly - I don't like the flow (or lack thereof) of it.
- Martha
So, I say, if you can get them to come over here instead, then I would say buh bye to Twitter, without a second glance!
- Martha
I wouldn't delete my account if I were you. Just point your users here temporarily. Things may change with Twitter (in fact, I have a feeling things are going to drastically change this year)
- Bwana ☠
I'm in the same boat, I don't really dig twitter either. I keep trying though. I think part of it is that I'm too verbose so I really hate the character limit... I find I spend more time editing my tweets to compress them then communicating. Let me blather, blah blah blah.... :)
- mikepk
I know there's value in conciseness... I just don't want to spend that many brain cycles on it. (the blather continues...)
- mikepk
Once SocialDM is integrated into FriendFeed, who needs Twitter? ;-)
- Kol Tregaskes
Friendfeed so massively blows away Twitter that it ain't even funny. I say this after having just made one last heroic effort to "get" Twitter by using it heavily every which way.
- Sean McBride
It's great advertising for FF if you set FF to post to Twitted and you import your Twitter friends into FF.

Hmmm... See, several of the people on Twitter already follow me here, though not all. And I don't actually know any of the people I follow there, it's just people I found interesting when I first signed up last summer. I'm already a bad tweeter (twitterer?), by just watching the message count on TwitterFox rise on a daily basis without actually checking it.
- FFing Enigma
Actually Mona, I do too and that is why Twitter still has some value for me still.
- Martha
It's different, and not as rewarding as FF, but using Tweetdeck helps, and not everybody is in FF. My biz contacts really like Twitter, so I use it to talk with them.
- anna sauce
I use tweetgrid.com mostly I like to use twitter as a connection point mainly
- RetiredTeacherD
i recently twittered about washing my jeans after 8 months. it made me feel more complete
- Cee Bee
That's pretty much it, Abby. I think it'd be different if I were entrenched on Twitter, or knew the people who followed me personally/professionally. But I don't know them, at all. They're interesting enough sometimes, but Twitter makes it impossible for me to schlog through and find the things that are worthwhile. Either I catch it when it flies by, or it's gone.
- FFing Enigma
I so agree. Twitter is a pain. Friendfeed must be really hard to get, otherwise I couldn't explain why the whole community hasn't flown over by now.
- Meryn Stol
I don't want to broadcast and I don't want to be broadcasted to. So Twitter doesn't really have a purpose for me.
- Andrew
I used it for a few months. Then I stopped. Then came FF. End of story.
- Jim the Blatant
Odd you should mention... I have found it useful to stay connected with people I know and want to send a quick hit to. I just paired down from following 400 or so to 80 or so. 1) I want to be part of the conversation not watching it roll by, and 2) I don't want to blast people that might not care with stuff I care about.
- Ken Stewart | ChangeForge
I can see that, Ken. But I don't really know anyone on my Twitter, other than FF people (and I see that stuff here). Other than that, Twitter has no bearing on or connection to my personal or professional life...
- FFing Enigma
You could bail on your peeps on Twitter and start over with only friends and family.
- Steven Perez
Steven, that's the problem: there ARE no friends/family on Twitter.
- FFing Enigma
LOL! Chris, it's odd enough having my sister and sister-in-law on FB. Stopped porting my FF over at that point...
- FFing Enigma
Guess I'm in a minority here but I love Twitter. It's a v different group of people for me though, a mix of real life friends, acquaintances, scientists and Pharma people so perfect for me. FF is much more tech focus so not surprising tech peeps prefer it.
- Sally Church
Sally -- how do you manage to conduct discussions with these people on Twitter? Most Twitterers seem to be talking to themselves.
- Sean McBride
Sally, come on - you aren't allowed to find Twitter useful in this thread.
- Shawn Farner
In order to use Twitter effectively you cannot allow yourself to feel pressure to keep up. It's not even possible. Instead, spend a few minutes there during your daily browse and quick scan for anything that interests you. 3rd party apps like Tweetdeck, can substantially improve functionality and fun.
- Mattb4rd
Hey now, Shawn =( If someone else finds Twitter useful, more power to them. It's not like I posted "Hey! Let's ALL quit Twitter!"...
- FFing Enigma
different services, different uses. </2 cents>
- vijay
I'm not really thriled with either yet. I love FF for teh threaded conversations but I love Twitter because I know when someone is actually responding to me.

Why does everyone think twitter has "real time search"? They disabled tracking, without tracking you can't do strict real time--you just get archived content (anything older than "now"), which is just standard search.
- Andy Bakun
+10 Tina. I am finding more and more that FriendFeed is far superior and enjoyable than Twitter. I made the mistake of following too many people on Twitter (all of my followers), etc. So now I have 11,600 followers and follow about the same amount. I only converse with about 20 or so people however. And my main Twitter input stream has mostly garbage that I have to filter by using TweetDeck searches. I now prefer FriendFeed.
